We were looking for a place to eat around 3:30 PM on a Thursday afternoon and this was probably the only restaurant open near our stay at the Hilton. It is a very nice restaurant. Elegant and clean. The hostess and waitress were very polite and professional. I wanted to enjoy a local dish and beer. I ordered the Redfish entree and let me tell you, "It was delicious!" We absolutely loved this restaurant so much we were there 3 times in one day! The bartenders, Nicole and Stephanie were awesome! Servers make your experience memorable and you want to go back! We stopped in to have a drink and looked at the menu because we were having dinner there with the bowling group. Then we decided to go back for happy hour and we had the amazing egg rolls. Our filet was Oscar style and so delicious and the baked Brie was outstanding! They were nice enough to bring extra bread toast for us. It was an elegant dinner they did include the gratitude for each couple which is understandable but nice to do separate checks. Everything we ordered was absolutely amazing! We started with the shrimp and crab mornay. I had redfish as my entree and everything was seasoned to perfection. The crawfish risotto is definitely made with love- I'm talking rice & a tasty sauce that's mixed & overflowing with crawfish onions, bell peppers! My significant other ordered the 12 oz ribeye, lobster mac, & salad. The yeast rolls were perfectly balanced with a touch of seasoning, a crunch, & yet still soft. TikTok recommended this place so I thought I would give it a try for a fancy birthday dinner. The ambiance walking in is astounding. I love the low lighting and intimate booth seating. Our waitress Ashley was quite sweet and quick to serve us. All food came out fast with minimal wait time. Everything was fine until it went downhill when we got the entrees. First off, we did start off with a lovely appetizer which was the chicken eggrolls. Honestly I could definitely say without question that those were the best chicken eggrolls I ever had in my life. The lime and the sauce that came with it was a perfect pairing of flavor and deliciousness. My partner told me he would come get these eggrolls for takeout any day of the week. Now to the entrees. We got duck Louisiana and the beef bourguignon. The duck itself was literally nothing but fat. I ended up having to take the fat out of my mouth and place it on my plate like a uncivilized human. The grits on the plate were enjoyable but the port cherry reduction was a bit overpowering at times. I tried my partners dish, the beef bourguignon, and found it to be ok but was lacking general flavor. The beef itself was slightly more edible than the duck. Whether it's dropping in for a quick cocktail at the bar or having a full meal, I really have enjoyed my visits to Stroubes over the past several years. Service is always on par. Even when we were brought a deviation of what we ordered, staff quickly acknowledged it and a correction was made. I love their starters, and they really can cook a great steak. Don't skip on the other dishes though. I've had many delicious seafood specials and some great pastas. I love the layout of the restaurant, and especially enjoy when I get a table along the window. I wish I remembered Stroubes more often when thinking about places to go. Always a good experience. read more

I'm kinda surprised by all the average reviews for this place. We walked over from a nearby hotel during a one night stay downtown. The hostess greeted us and gave us a second to look at the bar but it was very crowded so she was happy to find us a table. Our server was so energetic and knowledgeable about everything and she took great care of us. We both started with one of their smoked old fashioneds and it was delicious. They even brought the drink to the table covered so we could see the smoke. We started with the Smoked Salmon Dip and she suggested a side of hot sauce to add to each piece of bread. I have surprisingly never had this before and I loved it. It wasn't fishy and it was full of flavor, especially with the hot sauce. I ordered the 6oz Filet Mignon with a side of vegetables. It was seasoned perfectly and cooked just how I asked. I thought the steak was fantastic and I wish I ordered the bigger cut. The vegetables were pretty good as well and a great portion. Overall, the atmosphere is pretty old school/fine dining but it wasn't too fancy. Our service and food were all great and we didn't have any complaints. Checked this place out for lunch. I'm always surprised how restaurants are empty in dowmtown Baton Rouge. Had to wait a while to be seated since the hostess was also a waitress and I think bartender. Very small menu but a lot of the lunch specials sounded good. I went for the Buffalo chicken sandwich and stroubes salad. Sandwich was crispy and spicy. Loved the blue cheese chunks. Salad was good and tangy but quite overdressed. Too drenched in dressing...usually I don't mind but the flavor of the dressing was pretty powerful. Staff was friendly and lunch prices are reasonable. I came here for dinner on a Monday evening after arriving in town for a conference. Once I checked into my nearby hotel, I spent an hour walking around and taking in the sites. There aren't many places open on a Monday evening and this place, which was near where I was staying, received good reviews. I traveled by myself to the conference, so I walked into the restaurant for a table for one. Please note that the place was not even halfway full. When I walked in and asked for a table, a server who was up there and the hostess spent a solid 60 seconds debating on where to put me. Talk about making me feel uncomfortable! Finally they settled on a nearby booth. As I was walking by, I smiled and made a small joke about sorry to be difficult. The hostess sneered at me. After being seated, it was a good bit of time before someone came to me. Of course, it ended up being the same server who was quietly arguing with the hostess at the front. I will say that the server ended up being very gracious and kind. But the experience I had walking into the place, where I'm already uncomfortable dining alone, made for an unpleasant experience. As soon as the server came to me, I ordered a glass of wine and the redfish. His attention was prompt for the remainder of my meal, and the food came out pretty quickly. The portion was decent and the sauce of was good, but the fish was a little dry. Mr. Volland, I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the service my family and I experienced at Stroubes Seafood and Steaks, where we had reserved a large table to celebrate my husband's birthday. As lifelong Baton Rouge residents and local business owners, we have always valued the unique hospitality and high standards that define our city's restaurant community. Unfortunately, our recent visit to Stroubes fell far short of those expectations. From the moment we were seated, the service was disorganized and inattentive. Two servers were assigned to our party, yet one disappeared. The waitress who was very sweet was struggling because she had to wait other tables in addition to our large party. During our nearly three hour wait, several other customers arrived after us, had their meals, and left while our party remained unserved. We were not late for our reservation in fact, my sister and niece, who both live downtown, arrived well before our scheduled time. Our gathering was meaningful. Four generations of our family came together that evening, including my 83-year-old mother, myself and siblings, our children and their spouses, as well as our grandchildren. What should have been a joyful family celebration became an evening of frustration and disappointment. When our food finally arrived, it was cold and clearly reheated, and our drinks were served at room temperature. The bartender was unable to prepare basic cocktails. A Bloody Mary without tomato juice and a rum punch made with cranberry juice were among the most concerning examples. When we raised these issues, your manager, Ben, approached our table with a dismissive and defensive attitude, which only made matters worse. His lack of professionalism and courtesy reflected a disregard for our experience, and it's hard not to feel that our treatment may have been influenced by our race. We were deeply disrespected and made to feel unwelcome in a restaurant we had trusted to host our family celebration. As a lifelong resident of our great city, I recall visiting the downtown merchants as a little girl. Those memories are filled with pride and affection for Baton Rouge. Sadly, that endearing memory is now marred by the fact that someone who upholds the mistreatment of customers and serves substandard food owns multiple establishments in our beloved downtown Baton Rouge. I have dined at Capital City Grill and have entertained clients at City Pork, but after this experience, I will do so no more. We have dined at many of Baton Rouge's premier restaurants. Ruth's Chris, The Little Village, Fleming's, Stab's, Ruffino's and always left proud of the excellence our city offers. We had hoped Stroubes would deliver a similar experience, but instead, it became an embarrassing and disheartening evening. There was no altercation, no "incident" only our justified frustration at being ignored, mistreated, and served substandard food on what should have been a joyous occasion. The true offense was not our reaction, but the service itself. As a fellow business owner, I know that every customer's experience reflects directly on one's leadership. I urge you to address these serious issues within your staff and management team to ensure no other guests endure what we did. Baton Rouge and visitors of our great city, be warned: what we experienced at Stroubes was not reflective of the warmth, respect, and quality service our community is known for. The experience was embarrassing, disheartening, and unacceptable for any establishment representing downtown Baton Rouge. read more

Brussel sprouts seemed a little overcooked. The white thing tasted ok, but overall the dish was not as good as I was hoping. Stroubes burger - the fries tasted great. My partner didn't like the pork on the burger, but the burger seems alright. Overall it was good, but I probably wouldn't come again. This was during restaurant week ***** this being the time I like to explore new restaurants and food. So I was super hyped to give this a try. My husband made reservations for 8pm we ran a little late since we are not familiar with parking. Side note anything that has white markings on the curb or street for car parking is first come. The hostess was super friendly and attentive. The restaurant was not busy at all had maybe three other tables and a guy sitting at the bar with shorts and flip flops on. Casual vibes is what I was getting from how others were dressed. If you wanted you could dress up for date night or a girls night or a celebration. I just didn't get that flip flops were ok by looking at the pictures online. The lighting was dim and it was super quite you could hear some music playing but it was real low. So back to the food - after we placed our orders it just seemed as it took forever to get anything. I think it was closer to 9:20 when the food started to come out because my son (he's 4) was saying he's hungry and yelling out it's taking too long I want food. Once the alligator soup came out it wasn't hot in temperature when it came out and the flavor was ok i think it would of tasted better if it was served hot. My son was able to eat this that's how I know it wasn't hot at all. Then the main entrees came the redfish with risotto and grilled asparagus. The presentation was great but the food once again was not hot it was more warm. The fish was chewy like it was over cooked and the grilled asparagus looked like canned green beans it wasn't a vibrant green color it looked more grayish in color which then to me tasted like it was over cooked as well and it didn't taste like they were grilled by any means. I couldn't fathom eating another bite of my meal. My son on the other hand ate 3 tenders without the breaded coating. I took off the breaded part of the chicken tenders because some of it was super hard to bite and some of the fries. He said the fries were too wet (oily) and didn't want any more. We finally got our desserts and I was looking forward to the crème brûlée because it's my favorite dessert ever. I knew the description said it was a cognac brûlée but omg it tasted like straight liquor and once again I was not able to finish yet another thing. My husband ate his fish but said he was just super hungry and it was so late. He also didn't like his dessert of the snickers bread pudding that tasted nothing like snickers and more of just over baked bread with sweet sauce on it. I left hungry but it was just so late in getting our food that I didn't want to complain about it because I was just ready to go home as it was about 10:20 when we left - maybe the food was better earlier in the day it just seemed as if it was cooked ahead of time and it sat there until closing time. My friends and I came for happy hour right before finals and we had a lovely time. BBQ Shrimp and grits - really Gouda grits and only like two shrimp. I couldn't finish the grits due to the Gouda being really heavy.
