I went to Doe's to celebrate a family members birthday with dinner. Unfortunately I was not impressed with the food. Doe's menus is very interesting. For example, fried shrimp is listed as an appetizer. If you want to choose it as an entree, there is an additional charge for the side salad and a side of fries or boiled potatoes. The shrimp were deveined but there are definitely other restaurants in BR whose shrimp have a better taste. Our server was nice and the restaurant has a home feel. First time at this restaurant. We went for my brother's birthday. The server was very nice and made the meal enjoyable. The restaurant was this country style kitchen and had homey feel. I enjoyed the food but my family definitely liked it more than I did. It was an okay steak, but didn't wow me for the price that it was ($88 for a 2lb steak). My family ranted and raved about it. The house salad was delicious. I absolutely loved the house dressing! So yummy and tangy! 8/10 The broiled shrimp was very tangy, almost too tangy but still enjoyable. I went to Doe's for the first time with an OG Baton Rouge friend and sat in the bar in the back of Doe's. I loved the feel of the back bar! The staff and bartenders are super kind and seemed to be like "ya family" to my regular patron friend. The food was amazing as well from sandwiches to plate lunch type staples. Had never stopped at that restaurant before and with my birthday coming up soon decided to treat myself to a steak dinner since it's restaurant week in Baton Rouge. Their set menu offered three different types of protein but I was in the mood for steak so I ordered the 24 oz ribeye which was the steak option on the restaurant week menu. It came with garlic mashed potatoes, a house salad with a bright vinaigrette and a strawberry shortcake dessert. The salad was a nice portion with a very bright and tangy vinaigrette. The steak was absolutely HUGE - I mean the menu said it was 24 oz but I didn't realize how big 24 oz was until they brought me the plate. The meal was well seasoned and delicious and they cooked it exactly as I asked for, just pink in the middle and not mooing. The strawberry cake option on the set menu was a little disappointing. But I was already so full having eaten half of the steak and potatoes that it was just a touch for dessert which was fine. Don't think I would have ordered it off the menu at a separate price though. They did have two other dessert options but I was so full by the time the waiter came around to ask what I wanted for dessert that I chose the strawberry shortcake thinking it would be super light, which it was. Took one star off because although the steak was wonderfully seasoned and cooked to perfection, it was not the most tender steak I've ever had. Not tough, but not super tender either. Certainly acceptable for the price that I paid which I think was $60 for the set menu of salad, steak, and dessert for restaurant week. They had two other protein choices for the restaurant week set menu - a pork chop dish and a lamb dish. Okay so we heard people rave about this place and we had to try it out. My fiancé is a sucker for a ribeye. The atmosphere is casual at best. The prices are extremely high. And the servers low key look like they just rolled out of bed. I got a lemon drop martini which was good. And I got a petit filet. They don't offer toppings to the steak. My fiancé loved his ribeye. He is a huge fan. My daughter got the chicken strips. She loved hers as well. I just think for the price , the standards should be held higher atmosphere wise. read more

I I just can't stop coming here. I love everything I've tried. I love the Filet! The chicken fried steak is massive. It's huge and it's not one of those things you get at the grocery store. It's an actual sirloin if they beat tenderizing sells huge stick it covers the entire platter a hand batter season it up and fry it comes with plenty of brown gravy or country white gravy, which ever you like the best. I love the white gravy.. the french fries or hand cut and homemade you can't beat how good they are but they have mashed potatoes if you prefer. The mac & cheese is also a delicious thing here and today I went for lunch and I had to the roast beef debris poboy. Perfectly cooked steaks and good tamales. Not your usual steakhouse combination, but it works. Even though there is a limited menu and the steaks are insanely expensive ($50 and up), most of them are big enough to share. And very good - well seasoned and perfectly cooked to order. If you are a steak lover, this will hit the spot. The broiled shrimp appetizer is, essentially, a good New Orleans bbq shrimp (very good). The angry shrimp is a good sweet and spicy fried shrimp, but not too spicy. I'm told the fried asparagus is good, too. I'll have to believe my friends on that one (everything else is very good, so I'm sure the asparagus is, too). There is a story about how tamales became a staple of the Mississippi delta, but whatever that is, the tamales here are a fantastic example of tamales done right - perfect ratio of meat and masa, and served with a good chili. Overall, a very good experience with great food. Even if it's not affordable for a weekly adventure (you could have a steak salad for an affordable price), this is definitely a fantastic place for good steak! read more

When I went it there was a woman that wanted to eat there so bad(she was traveling from over seas) I witnessed the host (lady with dark from hair just below her shoulders maybe in her late 50s) turn down a woman that begged to be seated. You go for the meat. Eat the meat and love the meat. But also love the fries dipped in the steak juices (gravy? Runoff? I don't know, the deliciousness that comes from cutting the meat.) And then, when you somehow need a break from the meat, have a drop biscuit. Cut it in half, put some butter on each half, squeeze some honey on one half, push the halves together, take them apart and eat one half at a time. That's the proper way to do it. It's been over five years since I last visited Doe's, so I was excited for a delicious, large steak. I found that the visit didn't quite meet expectations. We had a table of 4, made a reservation for 7:15pm on a Thursday and were seated immediately. We ordered some red wine, tamales and fried asparagus to start. The fried asparagus was really good, although the portion was fairly small... more of a "taster" than an appetizer. The tamales weren't much to write home about... the beef was cooked well but tasted bland/unseasoned. The staff also brought us "drop biscuits" which basically tasted like donuts (really good!). We ordered the 2.5lb bone-in ribeye to share (10oz per person), medium rare. The quantity ended up being just right for a group of 4. It was cooked a little more like rare plus, which I didn't mind too much, although the center was colder than ideal. I was surprised though that the steak didn't have a good sear, and the meat did not taste seasoned at all. I almost NEVER add salt to my food but I had to add a little to the steak just to boost the flavoring. We tried to order garlic mash with our food but they were out so we got some mushrooms instead, which were okay. It's possible my expectations were too high coming in, but ultimately, I just wasn't impressed with the experience. read more

Two words: go hungry. The tamales are a must if you are a tamale fan. I would go back just for the tamales. However, they were not the star of the show: this was the 2.5 lb porterhouse steak. It comes with salad and a potato choice (fries or red potatoes were tonight's option), as well as what they call drop biscuits with butter (very similar to a beignet without the powdered sugar, but more dense, like a fritter). My husband and I shared the steak and really didn't put a dent in it. It was accompanied by a delectable, buttery sauce that made my tastebuds sing. We ordered off the chef's menu which was a soup or salad, an entree (steak, short ribs or pork chop) served with garlic mashed potatoes and collard greens and drop biscuits. Also a choice of dessert. The mushroom soup was delicious, although a little salty. I would order that again and again though. So good! We both ordered the steak and it was superb and HUGE. I ended up eating only half. The garlic mashed potatoes were not a star (flavorless, mostly) but the greens were tender. Our dessert was a bread pudding square. All in all, while I wasn't overwhelmed with the best meal I ever had, it was a good meal in a nice historic atmosphere with really attentive service. This weekend I decided to get a steak salad for a change and it was verg tasty! (I have also had the NY strip, ribeye, mac n' cheese, asparagus, and beer cheese soup before - all of which are very good.) Your meal is served with their homemade drop biscuits that are out of this world. Add a little honey to them and you may be dreaming of them for days to come. We went to Doe's Eat Place recently for a romantic dinner, and were throughly pleased with our entire dining experience! To begin with, the ambiance was suitable dim for the occasion; the venue looks good, but not so fancy you'd feel out of place being casually dressed. The service was spot on as well. On to the food! For our entrees we shared a two pound porterhouse; both the filet side and the NY Strip side were wonderfully seasoned, nicely marbled, cooked to perfection, and so tender it was a joy to eat. For our sides we went with the hand-cut fries and the house salad. The fries were wonerfully fired to a golden brown and completely addictive; the salad was quite good. Tip: Don't miss out on the drop biscuits, which are served with raw local honey - they taste like beignets and are completely delicious. Over and above their excellent food, good service, and nice atmosphere, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. This is my favorite steakhouse in BR. It isn't overly fancy, but has the best combo of food, service and price. Food: order of tamales and ribeye steak. Both seasoned to perfection and the cook was perfect. Bring a friend - we split the 2 lb steak and were full. Great experience and food! I ordered the petite filet and my husband had the ribeye. Tender like butter, so juicy and flavorful! They were amazing even microwaved the next day! They boil the potatoes in crawfish boil-genius! The sautéed mushrooms were awesome-my husband wanted to drink the gravy lol. But, the creamed spinach was the very best! So cheesy and creamy and flavorful!!! We each had Crown Royal highballs which had generous amounts of Crown. The drop biscuits were ok-a little over cooked, almost burned, but when you let the butter melt and let honey soak in, they were good. The restaurant was super busy as it was a Saturday night, but our waitress, Jamie, was great-super friendly, attentive and fast! The whole staff helped each other and were all friendly.
