Baby take me back to these ribs! We were in visiting for the Louisiana Book Festival and this place was recommended by a friend who used to live in Baton Rouge. She said the reviews are hit or miss but it was always good. I don't know what other people ordered or perhaps TJ was having an off day when those reviews were posted, I mean we all have those days, but this place did not disappoint! At first I was taken back by the ambiance, which felt more like a sports bar & grill than a BBQ joint. But with food this good, I don't care if it's served out the backseat of a Nissan. Kiy was our server and was awesome! She told us they were known for their award winning ribs, so we went with the dry rub. These were the BEST ribs I have ever had, and it didn't need to be slathered in sauce. Even my picky husband agrees. The meat was so tender, it was falling off the bone before you could pick them up, but no need to worry, every bit of meat was devoured. As we sat in silence, (and you know the food is good when the table goes silent) my friends enjoyed their smoked brisket, pulled pork, and BBQ shrimp. Dine or Dash? Went out with Family, and I ordered a 6 oz filet and Carrot Soufflé. The filet, when brought out had the plastic around it still, and while the meat was very good and tender, there was also some fat that I just couldn't get around. The real star of the show though, was the Soufflé. Oh. My. Gosh. It was AMAZING. I will definitely always order this as a side from now on. As for the setting, it's TJ Ribs, which for me is always somewhat loud. Having a hearing disability, this is always a challenge but, the food was good so it was worth not hearing the other person 100%. One other thing I was ecstatic about is that we were in an out in around an hour, very fast service. So come here if you want to talk with people, watch the games, and eat some good ribs. Ordered through DoorDash and although the bag was stapled shut, two items were missing, and the Jumbo shrimp were underwhelming for the $30 I spent on 9 nine shrimp and a smaller than expected side order of red beans and rice. With some low star ratings on Yelp, I was a little concerned after a friend recommended this place. I didn't check the reviews until after I sat down. However, the St. Louis ribs were very good, mostly. Four stars instead of five due to most were really good but a few were very chewy. So quality consistency was the issue . I decided to give TJ Ribs another shot for the third time, but tonight just wasn't my night with them. My server, Octave, was super respectful and sweet--he kept checking in on me, which I really appreciated. I was looking for something quick and tasty, so I went with the beef chimichanga (a safe bet) and the bread pudding. The chimichanga was crispy and warm, but overall just okay as an appetizer. The bread pudding, however, was a bad choice, especially since I saw chocolate was involved. After one bite, I knew it wasn't for me. Octave was great, though, and offered me something else, but I politely declined. The ambiance was really soothing, creating a relaxing atmosphere that made the dining experience more enjoyable. My wife and I were seated quickly and told that a server would be with us soon. After waiting several minutes and while getting up to leave a server appeared. We ordered our meals and waited a good while before the meals were brought to our table. One of the orders was incorrect and both orders had sides that didn't 'taste right'. We only ate the 1/2 racks of ribs that were included with our orders and passed on eating the sides. The bill was $47. Oof. Shame on me, really. I don't know why I alway try burnt ends outside of Kansas City. The eternal optimist in me always says, "this time it will be different." Well, these were truly the worst burnt ends I've ever eaten. I tried two of them. They were truly inedible. They were so salty that I couldn't stomach them. If they didn't taste so bad, there's still no way to get them down the hatch. They had the "burnt" part right. These things had been cooked for days. They were so dry and hard. I felt like I was eating salted mulch. The brisket was average, at best. Overcooked, but edible. Portion size was good. The best thing on my plate was the bread. I won't go back. read more

So, I'm not explicitly saying I am a bbq snob, but unless I'm home (Texas), KC, or Carolina, I typically won't even try a place. However, I was with a group of locals that was sure their place could change my mind. Spoiler alert...it didn't. With that said, there were definitely some good points. First off, you could smell the smokers when you were in the parking lot, so great start. We showed up at the tail end of lunch and there were a lot of people seated. It took about 30 minutes to get seated, but it was a large crowd. I have no issues with the wait. I ordered a two meat plate with burnt ends, brisket, Mac and cheese and fries. Overall, I'm disappointed to say the Mac and cheese was the best. And it WAS really good. The burnt ends were way to dry for the most part. There were a couple of bites that were delightful, but for the most part all the fat had been rendered and they were just dry little nuggets. The brisket was ok. Also a little too dry and sliced thinner than I'm used to. It did have a decent smoke ring though! Our server was excellent. Kept checking on us and made sure drinks were filled. No issues there whatsoever. Would I come here as a destination meal? Not likely. But again, I live in what I consider the brisket capitol of the country, so keep that in mind. Really good service and food was excellent. Wasn't sure what to expect after reading some reviews. Has smoked wings and burnt ends and they were the juiciest and biggest smoked wings I have ever had. Restaurant food quality and service has definitely declined over the years. Also closing other locations puts a big load on one place with BR being bigger city, especially during special occasions with large parties. Parking is difficult and there is barely standing or sitting room while waiting if busy. To go line causes some parking/driving interference. Reservations help but not punctual. read more

Set up like a sports bar TJ's ribs has a wide variety of bbq choices. We had ordered many different things off the menu, unfortunately nothing really stood out, except two of the sides. The carrot soufflé is and worth a category of its own. Almost a dessert. The potato salad is also five stars. But the main courses were just average in my opinion. The brisket is very dry, the ribs were good, but not amazing. Sausage was decent and the smoked wings were good, but not great. Great food! A little bit of a wait since it is a holiday. I had the full rack of baby back ribs, carrot soufflé, and baked beans. Couldn't finish it all. Took my daughter and wife to TJ's tonight for their birthday! I won't say how old my wife is but my daughter turned 21. The food was good as usual. We hadn't been to TJ's since they closed the one in Prairieville. What really made the evening was our waiter Trent. Trent went above and beyond to make our dinner exceptional. He had great recommendations for cocktails, appetizers and main course. Trent was so nice and very attentive. Hostess was the best part about this visit today. I was greeted by a waiter who seemed to not know his left foot from his right foot (Michah). I ordered a "mango" margarita, and was brought a normal plain Jane margarita.. We had been switched waiters, to "joe" and that was not our doing, apparently he wasn't supposed to take our table? I don't know.. Our table was broken, and asked to move. The manager on duty came over and stuffed "napkins" under it to stabilize it. That's really cool right? Trashy I also ordered a cup of gumbo, which was 98% rice..... the new waitress said "phenomal right?" I mean, if it was gumbo... maybe? It was all rice. The ribs came out like they were looking like they came from a rabbit. The coleslaw had no taste, and baked beans tasted like beans that were cooked then thrown in a cup with meat. Good bbq though the burnt ends aren't really burnt. They come in a bowl and includes a lot if Cubs of fat. Burnt ends are supposed to be crispy and well burnt. The ribs are good. I have been here several times. It's a okay bbq joint for a chain. read more

I went to another location of T J Ribs before, but I like this one more. The food was delicious. The ribs were cooked fine - not too old but not too raw either. Since I wasn't a person really into heavily dressed dishes, the only thing I didn't really like about the ribs was it had too much dressing. But it was great overall. The side salads were delicious as well. They offered many choices of dressing for salads. There were three of us had lunch at T J Ribs. We shared two orders of ribs together, and we were fed well! In my opinion, their portion was huge. If you have a small stomach, you probably don't need to order as much as you think you will need. Anyway, a wonderful experience there. While I want to like it and want to experience the ambiance with my beloved Tigers memorabilia surrounding me, I just can't help but feel the floor is full of a slick substance that cannot be cleaned.
