I am a sucker for a waterfront restaurant. Located in New Roads right on the water, Morel's offers a world class view. The view is so great that I could probably even ignore poor service or mediocre food. Luckily, both were great which made this one of my favorite dining experiences of 2025. When I first walked in, there were no other customers. This made me a little worried. That worry evaporated once the onion rings hit the table. Hell yes. Get these. They are wonderful. The steak was also very darn good. Best steak I've ever had? Probably not but still very good. Service was friendly and attentive. Remember when I said there were no other customers? Wow! That that is all can say about the amazing, delicious food my wife & I had. We came into this cozy little town from Oregon and dropped in for a bite to eat. This cozy, clean waterfront restaurant. No games here! The filet mignon is off the hook! Cooked exactly the way I asked! With absolutely amazing seasoning! We started with and shrimp remoulade & fried eggplant. & I hate eggplant! But not here! These dishes are very well planned out and a party in your mouth! First our Waitress was amazing!! We were a large group and we all had our drinks tended to often. My meal started with the Spinach dip. Sadly I would skip this next time because it was way too much spinach and hardly any other flavor (like cheese). Would make a better side than appetizer. But the absolute star of the night was the Shrimp & Eggplant Napoleon. OMG skip everything and just eat this. Absolute perfection. Wanted to end the meal with their Cream Brulee but they were out so I settled for the chocolate caramel pie. Delicious. Now my absolute biggest reason for only 3 stars is the drink. I asked the waiter who was helping our waitress what sweet drinks the bar had. I told him that I like umbrella drinks and he went and talked to the bar tender who gave him several options. I told him that I wanted the bar tender to surprise me and boy did she. I got a blueberry something drink and it was far from sweet. Had several others with me try it and they all agreed it wasn't sweet nor did it taste good. A bar tender should be able to handle the request of a sweet umbrella type drink. And to be served whatever it was that I got served for $12.00 was a very bad choice on the bar tender. But the main meal and the dessert will keep me coming back. Amazing food.I drive 2 hours away every few months just go get a taste. It's so worth it. Located on the water, the view is awesome. You can always see fish,ducks, and turtles. You can park by boat aswell. I highly recommend them. The wait staff is very friendly and fast aswell. read more

Good food, good service, outstanding view of the river. Good, crispy house made onion rings with a nice creamy pepper dressing. Grilled black drum over fried green tomatoes was very good, with a distinct lemon flavor (this was on the specials menu - not a regular item). My wife's redfish was also good, topped with shrimp and crabmeat. The only downside was bland mashed potatoes- salty with no other flavor. Four stars: I might not go out of my way, but I would definitely eat here again. P.S. Don't know what the "antiques" part of the name is about - never saw an antique shop. read more

This place has repaired much damage with me. after a contact and sincere apology from the manager, and a couple of trial visits - I'm happy to say the previous review was an isolated incidentals incorrect information was handed my way. That being said, I will stick with 4 stars instead of my original 5. I had a special eggplant lasagne tonight - which was delicious, but there was not much there for 17.95. Again, food is great- service has proved to remain wonderful, I am a little more conscious of pricing from here in out though. We will continue to come back and enjoy this as our in town date night spot. read more

The food is absolutely bland... The chicken parmesan had no sauce and the actual cheese was hard. The service was good and the employees where good put kept insisting for refills. No Matter how many time I say no the won't take it for a answer! The grilled cheese was horrible as well. The crust was so burnt it was not edible, the cheese was so dry and greasy that it was unappetizing. The fry's that came with the grilled cheese were very soggy and cold. Something else that was outrageous was that to get curly fries instead of soggy frap fries was a charge of $3.87?! Another outrageous price was it was about $11 just for 4 small cheese sticks, good cheese sticks but 4 small cheese sticks.. Nice restaurant right on False River. They accommodated our group of 12 even on a busy weekend. I wouldn't get the gumbo again but everyone else enjoyed their meal. I even finished my wife's redfish with crab meat and that was really good. I'm admittedly a gumbo snob so they get a pass. We liked it and will return next time we're in New Roads. read more

Great view on the river. Food is always good from their salads, poboys, fried seafood, hamburger steak, etc. Depending on what time you go, it can be a little slow but always good service and great food. They fry their oysters perfectly and they are great on their sensation salad. Their onion rings and fried eggplant are a great start. They usually have lunch specials and dinner specials which are always good. Worth the drive if you are out of town. read more

We moved to St. Francisville, Louisiana a couple of years ago , and didn't realize this place existed until yesterday. It's not on the main drag, so you wouldn't know it was there by just driving through town. It is literally over the water so the view is great. We made reservations, but went early enough that we probably didn't need to. We got a crab cake appetizer and were not disappointed. It tasted great and the tartar sauce that came with was different than anything I have ever had. It has just a little spice to it that made it taste awesome. My husband generally hates mayonnaise in anything, but he would have licked the bowl. lol. I had the redfish, and my husband had the Shrimp and Eggplant Napolean. This place sits directly over the water and every seat has spectacular gorgeous views of False River. The service here is always stellar so no complaints on that. The spinach and strawberry salad with feta and pecans is mouthwatering. The fried fish & shrimp here have always been delicious but I decided to try something new tonight so I started with crawfish bisque which was delicious even though it didn't had a single crawfish in it. For my entree I ordered a single fried Softshell crab to be added to the the crawfish Julie which is supposed to be crawfish and mushrooms in a cream sauce but it was disgusting and more of a bad étouffée made with frozen Chinese crawfish. It was not a cream sauce and didn't have a mushroom in it. The Softshell crab was just a tiny baby and was all soggy with grease so hmm ! For dessert I ordered the berry cake with almond frosting. The cake serving is huge but one bite of it is too much of it because it was just a boxed spice cake with macerated berries under the frosting it was nothing special, I didn't care for it. Went last Friday for lunch. Restaurant was crowded but we were seated immediately. Downhill from there. Took 25 minutes to bring us water. We were about to leave when she came back, took our order. Waited another HOUR for our food. Hubby had a Caesar salad made with spring mix, not romaine lettuce. He is not picky at all and he didn't like it. My fried crawfish sandwich was disgusting, fried crawfish tasted cold and soggy with too much breading. Bun was burnt. It made me a bit queasy but I ate a bit because I was starving and by now near 2PM and I'd had no breakfast, waiting for a nice meal here. Fries were cold. Here's the problem. There was a full restaurant, seats about 70 +/-, and there were 2 waitresses. And best I could tell, 1 person in the kitchen. Please, owners! If you can't get help, close the restaurant until you can! Last time we were here, it was just okay, took a little less time, but still waited long. I believe the owners just don't care about the customers, just the $$. I would be embarrassed to serve what they served us and charge what they did for it. We don't mind paying whatever for good food, but this was ridiculous. Never coming back. Sorry. Too many good places out there. read more

Awful save your money. Went there Saturday with my daughter and her husband they got the seafood platter, what a joke. The crab claws looked like they just took used one and re fried tgem the oysters we're smelling awful and we're the size of a quarter it was awful. I got the fish and shrimp platter it wasn't any better , fries were cold shrimp were frozen. Won't be back that's for sure only reason we stopped is because Hot Tails are remodeling. Have eaten here many times and it is usually good. Today however, while the food was good the service was horrific. I understand that they have staffing issues due to the lingering effects of COVID, but that does not explain being there two hours for lunch, especially when we arrived when the place only had two other tables occupied. We were seated and ordered about fifteen minutes later. About twenty minutes after that another couple sat down next to use. They ordered and their food came out about ten minutes later - mind you we still had not been served our appetizers. I looked over and they ordered the same appetizer (fried crab fingers and boudin balls) They also had some type of soup. They were then served their entree and we are still waiting tor our appetizer. About an hour after we ordered we finally got the appetizer. About thirty minutes after that we go our entrees. Other tables and had come and gone before we even received out meal. COVID does not explain this in any way shape or form. I am not sure if our waitress (who seemed to disappear for about thirty minutes) is responsible, but regardless this is unacceptable -COVID or not. read more

Satterfields was recommended to me here at New Roads, but they have closed permanently. So the lady at Satterfields gallery suggested Morels. I ordered the fried catfish and oysters combo. Don't think it was even a whole fillet cut up into tiny strips. And the oysters looked like they were really small, probably out of a can. The only thing good I can say was that it was hot, and had a great view of the water. It sure didn't feel like a complete entree. I won't be back. Oh yes, I ordered a Cane-break draft. You can't see the restaurant from Main Street because it's behind Morel's Inn. It's literally right on False River so you have to walk a short pier to enter the place. There are only about 10-15 tables in the restaurant but I've never waited to be seated. Chances are that from your table you can see pelicans and ducks float by in the water. During the day the attire is casual (I've even seen people in camouflage fatigues and hunting boots) and diners come as they are. At night, Morel's takes on a more romantic air thanks to lights along the riverbank. People put a little more thought into their attire--it's not fancy by any stretch--but customers do seem to make more of an effort. My favorite dishes to order are the Chicken & Andouille Gumbo, Crawfish Julie (crawfish and mushrooms in a kicked up cream sauce over angel hair) and Chocolate Pie. Everything else I've tried has been tasty and well-seasoned. I enjoy eating here because the food comes out of the kitchen promptly and the servers are attentive. But instead of rushing you through your meal they're smart enough to let you savor it. I've been here several times for lunch and dinner and each time I've enjoyed my meal. On our way home from Baton Rouge one recent Sunday, my folks and I decided to visit the small town of New Roads to check out their lunch options and we discovered Morel's sitting right on the False River and we were immediately impressed with the location of this establishment. Upon entering, we were also satisfied with the medium noise level though the restaurant was nearly full. We were greeted by a friendly host and served by an adept, pleasant table server. Further, I enjoyed sweet tea which was very well-made, especially when I added lemons. I then ordered the Shrimp Napoleon dish which contains grilled shrimp wrapped in bacon on a bed of fried eggplant slices, mixed with grilled onions, sauce, and other ingredients. If it were possible, I would give this dish 30 stars as it was the best fried eggplant dish that I've ever tasted. The shrimp were well-cooked, plump, and juicy, and the eggplant were plentiful, battered well, melted in my mouth, and blended scrumptiously with the other ingredients. Further, the flavor of the bacon--not too crispy and not too soft--added to my delight of the dish. Finally, this meal included a side of mashed potatoes, and I'm telling you folks that I have never had mashed potatoes this tasty in my life. These potatoes tasted like they came straight from the garden and the mix of butter into the dish was perfect. Also, I'm not sure of the other ingredients which were included with the potatoes but those mashed potatoes simply tasted fabulous! When finishing this extraordinary meal, I should have done my belly a favor and left right then, but I decided to try the chocolate caramel pie. But I'm really glad I stayed because this pie tasted really good as well. I think the crust was graham cracker and it simply melted in my mouth. The filling was thick, creamy with a perfect mix of chocolate and caramel; it was simply an amazingly tasty dessert. My parents also enjoyed their dishes as well, and we were all impressed with the friendly service from the wait and managerial staff. Further, we truly enjoyed the view of the river as we watched boats enter and leave the dock of the restaurant. We were also satisfied with the prices of a restaurant of this type. In fact, we were so pleased with this place that we returned the following Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed our meals again; my dad found the Pork Ribeye dish to be an excellent choice. If you've never been to the clean-looking town of New Roads, we highly recommend that you visit this town and give this outstanding establishment a try. As of the writing of this review, the COVID policy here is that masks should be worn upon entering and leaving the restaurant but they can be removed upon being seated. Had this review in my drafts for a while now; I figured I might as well post it in hopes that someone doesn't make the same mistake that I did. As I walked in, I was greeted by the staff and seated quickly. The hostesses were outgoing and kind; one of the first things that I noticed was that they did almost EVERYTHING while the wait staff played on their phones in the hallway. I know it's not my business to be involved in staff affairs, but it was infuriating to wait for ONE HOUR for my appetizers while I'm watching half of the staff team stand around. Not only this, but the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the crab fingers (which took, again, nearly one hour to prepare) then signed away the next 45 minutes of my time by ordering an entree (Crawfish Julie). I literally did not leave the establishment for nearly 2 hours. Absolutely unacceptable. All the while I waited, I watched the MANAGER chat up a storm with her friends at the bar. If you don't want to work with your staff, maybe you shouldn't run a restaurant. Safe to say I won't be coming back again, and I don't encourage anyone to spend an absurd amount of money to sit down for 2 hours and eat food that isn't anything to write home about. read more

We went on a Thursday evening around 6:30. No one was in there so we were able to get a great table by the window! Sadly they were out of crab fingers. My son had the chicken tenders, they looked like they were hand battered so that's a plus. Hubby had fried catfish, he ate it all so I guess it was good lol.
