The food was delicious and we started with appetizers of jumbo cheese logs aka mozzarella sticks for $ that were thick, then fried green tomatoes smothered with a thick crab remoulade sauce for $12 and onion rings for $11, and Fried Eggplant fried crispy, with roasted tomato marinara, topped with lump crab meat and Cajun butter! for $15 And I got to taste 2 wines the Bacchus Cabernet Sauvignon which was $8 and the Meiomi Cabernet Sauvignon at $12/ glass. And the Bacchus was too soft and sad tasting, out of all of their wines btg was not great but the best red wine on the menu by far and it had flavors of blackberry, black currant, plum and black cherry with some tannin that helped it stand up to the food! And Grif and Kemp also got a glass knowing how particular I am! Had Strawberry Chicken Salad! Was delicious! The mushroom chicken wrap was good but to much pepper on it for me! The mixed veggies couldn't eat either too much pepper for me! Had this a 5 * review and based on the iron skillet steak and service I received on a Saturday night it was but I returned Monday for lunch got two pizzas that were pretty good and a order of white beans and rice with two small fried but unseasoned pork chops because the lunch menu has limited choices compared to the supper choices so We went back for supper Monday night I ordered the chicken piccata and my daughter had the chicken Marsala and I had to send my chicken piccata back because it was served COLD :( and when they brought it back they heated it up someway that made the chicken was hard and inedible then they had topped it was Marsala sauce ( so I now had the two sauces mixed up on inedible chicken, sad. Attention garlic lovers and vampires beware ‍‼ Steak and sides tonight with plenty of garlic. Borderline overbearing but I pretend to be Van Helsing on occasion so no complaints from me. Bottom line, we all loved the food and would revisit! Speaking of revisit, the lacking service absolutely sacked this review early into our visit and I was content, but the food...but the food, saved the night. After waiting a solid 10+, the hard working hostess tried her best to mind the gap but in order to get actual service I had to engage staff which was disappointing and impacted the sacred and elusive review. Unfortunate but the bright spot tonight was the food. No complaints, the heavily seasoned food was outstanding. The slightly too cool temperature (wear some sleeves) was perfect for escaping the ridiculous Austin-like temps and humidity but if that is what it takes for the seasonings to be served as-is then so be it. I drove out to Jackson,La to try this new restaurant. I had high hopes because I had been hearing very good about them. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience. Upon arriving I noticed the building was brand new. The restaurant was nicely decorated. We were seated quickly. It took awhile for the waitress to get to us, but they were very crowded so it wasn't really a problem. The hostess did come back and take are drink order. When were able to order I decided on one of my favorites. Chicken Marsala. Big mistake. I'm not picky... But this i honestly could not eat. I tried to make the best of it but it was bad. We had also ordered an order of broccolini for the table ... They brought us green beans. They were quick to fix the issue but the broccolini was cold and limp. All in all the meal was terrible. Thank goodness my dinner came with a salad. The salad was good. The blue cheese dressing was homemade and very tasty. I will give this restaurant another chance later down the road. I do understand that maybe it was just an off day. I'm not trying to deter anyone from trying them.. it's just not for me. Like I said I will try them again. read more

One of our favorite places to eat! Being locals we go at least once a month. We have tried a wide variety of the foods and the steak has been a favorite for my husband and I. I LOVE the vegetables they serve with it. My son absolutely loves the cheese pizza (he's extremely picky on what kind of cheese pizza he will eat) and my daughter love the pasta. We always get an order of the gator bites as well. Everything we have ordered has been worth the price for the serving size and taste. The waiter Andrew is also always extremely polite and give wonderful service! This restaurant is a wonderful addition to the community. read more

The food was excellent. I had the chicken fried chicken and the coating was light and delicate and crispy. The gravy, which I got on the side, was good, but not great. Southern green beans and a "stuffed potato" (twice-baked) were excellent. DH had the catfish o'boy and gobbled it down. Sara, our server, was helpful, attentive and friendly, It's decorated like an old English pub, kind of, but if you sit along the front windows the air conditioning blows right down on you. I brought a hoodie to put on (I'm always sensitive to drafts) and I noticed that 3 tables of people seated there while we were eating asked to be reseated away from there. We stopped on our way to Alabama from Louisiana, it was such a wonderful experience we stopped again on our return trip a week later. Before we departed we sought out the manager to tell how much we enjoyed his restaurant. He was speaking with his honey supplier but had actually recognized us from our first visit. As we chatted about our positive experience, the very friendly honey supplier offered and gave us a jar of his delightful honey. Restaurant was closed now reopened under new management. Ate there 2 days ago, Friendly staff, but food was subpar compared to how it was under previous ownership. We found food quality was not up to the standards like before nor the portions. Same menu but again quality was very bad. Even the salad dressing was toxic tasting. We had fried fish and it was 6 little strips instead of piled on like it used to be. Fries were barely warm but fish pieces were hot. Hushpuppies were cold. Heard new owner owns a few Gas Stations with walk in finger foods. It appears he needs to learn the restaurant business because you can't sell Gas Station quality food in a quality restaurant and expect to stay in business. Won't be returning read more

If I could I would rate this restaurant, NO STARS!! I heard The Iron Horse was "OK", I should have "heard" the "OK" as TERRIBLE. We went on Tuesday as "kids eat free" on Tuesday. When we arrived, party of 5, we were immediately seated. Drink orders were taken and I asked for the wine menu. The wine menu was limited so I ordered sweetened tea. It's a small restaurant so I understand the wine menu being very limited. I ordered "Gator Bites" as an appetizer they DIDN'T HAVE ANY, NOR did they have a "Chefs choice of the day" soup. (Strike 1) I ordered the Iron Horse Pork Chop prepared "medium to medium rare", it arrived cooked WELL. The sides, "sautéed baby green beans" were COLD and the "garlic mashed potatoes" were luke warm, at best. (Strike 2) We also ordered "Meat Lovers" pizza without bacon. It was not good and the crust was chewy. When a 10 year old doesn't eat the pizza it's definitely NOT GOOD! (Strike 3). The Spicy Shrimp Wrap was tasty but there was more "wrap" than Spicy Shrimp so the wrap part was discarded. When the checks were handed out the children's meals were NOT "kids eat free", when we questioned the server she said "we don't have a "physical kids menu", PHYSICAL kids menu? Really? When questioned how were we to know what is on the children's menu if there isn't a "physical kids menu", she informed us we were supposed to ask. When we walked in with an 10 year old and and 8 year old why were we not made aware of the non physical "children's menu"? The server, Maggie, was VERY rude about the children's menu. Also, when my meal was presented the server reached ACROSS the table, set my plate half way to me. It must have been her first time serving because she just doesn't know how to serve. Her customer service skills are nonexistent. After 3 strikes, we are OUT. We usually give a restaurant a second chance but we will NOT be returning! As I said TERRIBLE!!!! read more
