Walking into the Plantry Cafe made me feel like Snow White in an enchanted forest. It is absolutely darling inside. I discovered this spot on yelp and decided to give it a shot. It was a Sunday, so they had a special brunch menu instead of their usual fare. I did not have a reservation, so the wait time was pretty long. Be sure to call ahead if this is your first visit. There were so many dishes I wanted to try, but I only have so much stomach real estate. I settled on the quiche and lions mane cakes. I loved the quiche, but the lion's mane cakes fell flat. They had a spice that I just didn't care for, though the texture was great. I did wish that the food I ordered was a little bit hotter. It came out warm, but not piping hot. We did not have a good experience. First of all, when I made a reservation for only 2 people... they said they would charge me $25.00 per person if we cancelled our reservations. For 2 people , that is ridiculous. It took forever for us to be waited on and there were only three tables of people there. I ordered the Wellington. It had zero flavor. I would not recommend this entree. When we got our bill, they had already added a 20% tip to our bill. Again... only for 2 people. No wonder the waiter wasn't working very hard for a tip. He could have cared less if we waited a long time or not bc he was getting 20% from each of us regardless. I will be very surprised if these people stay in business. read more

Where do I start. I came here on Valentine's Day for a birthday party. We started ordering at 6:41pm. It was Valentines so the entire restaurant could only order a three or six course meal of the same thing. We received our first course at 7:41pm our second course at 8:50pm and the dessert at 10:17pm. This place closes at 10pm!!! I have pictures to prove all of this. Our waiters started ignoring us after the first course. We received horrible service while everyone else was served their food and left accordingly. And I have never faced such racism in Baton Rouge and I have lived here my entire life. We spent over $900 and was charged for "changing seats" when we had the same number of people when we sat down at 6:41pm. The manager or owner of this establishment was unaccountable and said rude remarks without helping us. She said and I quote "Come on Valentines Day if you want any entertainment", rolled her eyes, mumbled under her breath and everything! Instead of helping us they, she told the staff to clean up and left us with the bill. She treated us like the bottom of her shoe while no other group got this treatment. She didn't even want to discuss the extra charges on our ticket. We planned on paying for our food regardless of taste because this was our friends birthday but they lied about the dessert and said it would be right out around 9:30pm and we didn't receive it until 10:40pm. The cake we received was not listed on their website and it was not what everyone else had at the restaurant. The manger did not tell us until we received the pie and saw it was not what we were supposed to receive. The manger even had an older male serve us the left over pie instead of serving it herself or had our original waiter serve it to us. Mine you the cheesecake we saw everyone else have was what was listed and what we were looking forward to but didn't get. They waiting until 10pm to say they ran out of the dessert. I just feel as though we were completely disrespected because (and I hate to say this) we were young black adults. I do not recommend this PLACE to anyone!!! Black or White. All I can say is WOW. Ive recently been diving into the vegan realm, and have been wanting to try out this spot for several months. Finally got the chance to make it happen. This place is absolutely gorgeous, immaculately designed with a beautiful bar and gorgeous furnishings. The bar menu looked exquisite, I will definitely be returning to try more cocktails. We had the brussels sprouts appetizer as well as the cauliflower poppers. Both fantastic! Cauliflower is on the spicy side in a delicious buffalo type sauce. I had a large bowl of soup and a salad for my entrée, both were divine. The salad had so much great stuff on it including some absolutely delicious vegan cheese. One of the best salads I've ever had. We also had one of the Mitaki mushroom, and this thing tasted just like a juicy portobello. Similar to steak consistency, hearty and filling. Perfectly prepared. The owner/chef came out to chat with us at the end of dinner, and she absolutely has done an amazing job with this spot. Was hoping to go to the tasting party this evening, but I could not make it. I love nature and trees, so to be welcomed by a tree felt dominant, yet welcoming. It was exciting! The ambiance was attractive, sophisticated,and bold. The food and drinks were delicious, and the quality of the ingredients was apparent. Dr. Crifassi's passion for high-quality and healthy food options was apparent. Her expertise and dedication were admirable. I was impacted most by the story behind the restaurant. As a caring doctor who believes in holistic medicine, she decided to give people somewhere to get healthy options instead of just telling them what to do. I have a new addiction... this place. It's so chic, eclectic, and the ambiance is spectacular. I picked up a to-go order, and let me tell you, this was the most exquisite to-go order I've ever gotten. It was packaged so nicely without extra wasteful packaging. Loved the menu and bag it came it. The food presentation itself was impressive. My server was very quick to help bring me my to go order. She was very pleasant along with the other staff. There is nothing like this restaurant ambiance in Baton Rouge. Seems like something you would stumble across in NYC or Dallas. I practice vegan eating during the week and incorporate meat on the weekends. The BBQ Jackfruit tastes just like the real thing!!!!! The pretzel bun was so fresh and tender. Loved the Brussel sprouts with aioli sauce. If you're not vegan that's okay, because you will love the flavors and options. I felt so satisfied after eating and it's good knowing I can stay on my vegan diet during the week, which has been shown to have a variety of health benefits. First, there's no other restaurant that matches the attention to detail that was put into decorating and outfitting this cafe. Everything was stunning! The dishes were creative and varied. First time guest here and was really looking forward to trying their Valentine's day 3 course . We were promptly sat and were able to enjoy the water that was at our table . Our server never came to our table and after 30 minutes of waiting I notified the hostess that no one has came to check on us . Finally a server came by and literally just said how may I help you ? I let the server know immediately that we have been sitting there for 30 minutes and that I would love to just have a cup of tea and be served the 3 courses . The server told me that she didn't know what teas they offered and that she would send someone over to tell us about the teas . 10 more minutes passed by and she came back and said again she didn't know what teas they had available . So in 40 minutes of waiting , no food , no tea , no manager , no anything . We just left . Beautiful decor , but terrible service . I visited the Plantry Cafe twice for lunch in the past week, each time with a different friend. The owner, Dr. Katie Crifasi, welcomed us both times and chatted with us about the food. The restaurant decor is very elegant and the food was extremely well prepared and innovative. Their plant-based menu is not your basic steamed veggies. Menu items we tried were the beet burger, mushroom soup, and sweet potato soup. Since we were splitting the beet burger entree, our server made us each a beet slider. The burger appeared to be made of grilled shredded beets on a pretzel bun with cole slaw. Very tasty! Both of the soups were delicious. They were creamy, with interesting texture and flavors. The mushroom soup was packed with mushrooms. The sweet potato soup was seasoned with maple syrup, cardamom, and topped with candied pecans. On our first visit, I was discussing a very good non-alcoholic sparking rose that I had recently tried. The owner brought out a bottle of red wine from the same German vintner and asked if we wanted to sample it. All three of us agreed it was not that good. So Dr. Crifasi took it behind the bar and came back a few minutes later with glasses of a sangria-like drink she had concocted with the wine. It was delicious, and she did not charge us for it. Our servers were attentive and helpful. The restaurant also offers Sunday brunch and high tea. There are two separate areas where groups can be seated for business or social occasions. Note that the Cafe adds a 20 percent gratuity to all checks, regardless of the number of people or the amount of the check. read more
