Awesome place to stop and relax in downtown Indy. I had the ginger latte with an apple cinnamon muffin and it was like Christmas in your mouth. The old Athenaeum building houses this little gem, which in and of itself is a cool find. I travel for a living and I'm in town for the week. Delicious lattes. In fact, I tried the new fall offering - the pear latte (maple, nutmeg, cardamom) and it was smooth and just the right amount of rich, with a subtle warm spice. It's great for working and studying, lots of empty space with a mix of dim vintage ambient lighting and natural light from the windows. Nearing a religious experience for the caffeine walk of righteousness, this half remodeled old school downtown hipster church is the first coffee place I have ever been to that cooks up a menu above all expectations. Sure the atmosphere isn't much for studying. Furniture isn't ideal for reading away an hour, on the weekend certainly not quiet. It's plenty large and unlike the favorite chains offers tons of space. Maybe there's some nook I didn't get to for hiding away with bio-chem but fret on the finals another day. Forget those sad school reasons to brew with your books, you want to come here because the macaroons are perfect and a mouth sensation. There's oat and almond milk for the dairy averse. I have tried three drinks now and can't get over the presentation - dried hibiscus dropped into a pool like a happy Van Gogh signed off on the beverage. The flavors and finish on the drinks seems like years of research and practice just having culminated for us 21st century humans to get the first savor before anyone else. Everyone should make a trip here to experience proper food craft for themselves, taste and see that the roast is good. Amen. read more

Their coffee was some of the best I've had in Indy. It was craftful and had plenty of dairy options as well. I also got their peanut butter cookie, which was to die for. Absolutely solid coffee. Definitely one of the best places I've ever been. We stopped by on a Sunday while driving through Indianapolis and weren't disappointed. The drive from the interstate to the location isn't too bad, especially on a Sunday. Thankfully, there is a parking lot behind the building with several spots. Make sure that you park in a non-YMCA spot. Parking is a bit expensive at $2 for an hour, but at least you don't have to parallel park on a busy street. Coat Check is inside the old cultural building and is a bit hard to see, so look for the emblem on the glass door. Go up the steps on the left and you'll see a small counter on the left where you can order. I knew they offered several unique drinks from Yelp, so I asked the barista for his recommendation and got a bored "Pistachio" reply. So I got an iced Pistachio latte. BOY was it good. Pistachio, lemon, and rosewater don't sound appealing at first, but somehow they made it work and it was to die for. It was a little humorous to see them light the orange peel and waft it over the cup for the butterscotch lattes, but hey, it's good. I'm not very good at the whole hipster thing, so I did feel a little out of place, but it's a great place to people watch. All the good photo spots were already taken by basic white girls, but there is a ton of seating available. I couldn't find a women's restroom, but there is a dedicated men's restroom and a unisex restroom. read more

It was like a hot chocolate with a little coffee flavor and had a nice touch of the sea salt garnish. Was disappointed that we got there too late in the day as all bakery items were gone. Today my wife and I took our 4 year old to the city for coffee, exploring and lunch. I've been wanting to try Coat check coffee for some time as I've heard so much. It is tucked away inside an old historic building...a little tough to find the first time, but the unique environment and the coffe is worth the hunt. My wife ordered the dark chocolate latte, with sea salt. I ordered a double espresso and the house special, a butterscotch latte. The barista made a hot chocolate for our son...dressed in his Spider-Man costume and called "Spider-Man" when his drink was ready...this made his day! My wife loved her latter.
