Terrible service, enormous rates, impossible to get ahold of a real person, and no communication skills. I contacted them 48.5 hours before my pick up window (10:30am 2 days prior to an 11am pick up) to change my appointment. Additionally, I contacted them once the day before that (3 days prior). I had sent them an email and did not hear from them by 10:30am the next day (they claim they open at 5am, so they had plenty of time to read my email). When I finally got ahold of them at 10:30am, they notified me that I couldn't change my appointment, so I asked them to cancel it via their chat service. This was still the conversation PRIOR to 48 hours in advance. They claim that I was past the 48 hour window (which I was not) and charged me $100. They incorrectly charged me $100 for cancelling in the appropriate window. I filed a claim and it was denied because they just said I was past the window. Again, I was not. 5 years ago, this was a human-centered moving company with decent prices. Today, their prices skyrocketed, you can't ahold of a real person, their customer service team lacks basic communication skills, and they don't follow their own rules that they create (48 hour cancellation policy). The only benefit to my experience with Clutter is that since I will never use them again, I found a family owned moving company that did an amazing job for half the price, and on very short notice. There are many moving companies that actually care about you and your experience, and Clutter is not one of them. I wish I had checked back and read reviews before booking with them again, because it's gone downhill the last year. Not sure if there's a change in management but its unfortunate. I have recently had my items returned to me from Clutter after having them pack up my apartment and store for 4 months. Overall I would not recommend this company for the following reasons: - Lack of professionalism: The movers who packed up my apartment were complaining about their manager while inside my apartment. One of the movers was in an active dispute with their manager about taking a lunch break. He was stepping out to take a phone call from his manager and would then return to the apartment and recount the conversation to his colleague while I was there. The manager was pushing the employee to take a break which would have meant stopping in the middle of packing my apartment and making me wait while he took lunch. The employee refused to take lunch which was the best outcome for me as the customer, but the whole dispute was very unprofessional. - Incorrect labeling of items: Upon receiving my items back it became clear that the original movers did not label and catalog my couch, only the couch cushions. So when the movers who delivered my items back to me loaded up the truck, my couch was not included. When they queried someone at Clutter while in my apartment, the response was that the coach was never stored with them, which is not true as I watched the original movers take it out of my apartment. They returned the couch cushions just not the couch. - Poor customer service: The movers who delivered my items were not able to assist with tracking down my couch. The only option given to me was to file a claim to be reimbursed for the couch and to wait 5-7 days for the claim to be reviewed. I received a response to my claim indicating that the couch is lost and that they will pay out $150 ($1 per pound) for a couch that is worth over $2000. I have had zero explanation as to what happened to my couch. Given it is an expensive couch I would have at a minimum expected a phone call from someone at Clutter sharing more detail regarding the process for trying to find it. Right now I can only speak to a call center in India who follow a script and do not have any additional information to share. I have used Clutter services on two occasions now. Once for storage and once for moving. Online scheduling is super easy, the online catalog is a really nice touch, and to say I was very impressed with how methodical both processes went would be an understatement. As a female I felt comfortable both times with the teams. I felt like they really do want the customers to sense they have best interests at heart. They even checked in on me periodically to see how I was doing with the whole experience as it was happening. They were super accommodating. It's so hard for me not to be doing things to help others. But they were always trying to remind me they were there to help. I'm grateful for their level of customer care. As for our items, pretty much everything I think was truly treated well. A little superficial damage on one of our appliances, but the team actually were the ones who notified me and clutter was on top of making sure I knew how to file claims. I never felt like it was a lack of care for our stuff. Just a simple error. Honestly, I really was thankful they were able to load the massive washer. Pricing I think is reasonable. When I booked my appointment for my 4 bedroom house they told me I would have 5 guys and 2 trucks. On the day of the move only 2 guys and one truck showed up. The guys told me 4 guys called in sick and that my move would be spread over two days for the same rate. Also, they could only work until 1pm. Then I called customer service. The best they could do was to cancel the first move day for $200 and add a third guy to the second move day with the second truck, but that they NEVER staff jobs with FIVE movers. I cancelled the entire move and would never recommend Clutter. Why get a customer excited that you could staff a job with 5 movers and get it done quickly then tell them the day of the move that you NEVER staff jobs with 5 movers. Bad business. read more

Thieves and Scammers, stay away! I wish I would have checked the Better Business Bureau reviews/complaints before hiring these scoundrels. I got way overcharged because of the way the movers generously measured items doing LxWxH even for things like tables where the legs were either disassembled later or you could store things underneath. I got bumped up two levels of storage capacity from the estimate, but they know that at that time it's too late for people to back out. What looked like a good deal at the estimate turned out to be a nightmarish expensive storage option, but I was about to leave the country and couldn't back out anymore, which is clearly what they are banking on. When I eventually received my items, everything was full of dust and leafs (just where is their storage, outdoors?), some of it was broken and a crate with more than a thousand dollars worth of liquor bottles was missing. My claim was immediately rejected with the excuse that alcohol is prohibited to store. Apparently, that's somewhere in the fine print. That's a questionable restriction in itself, but they took pictures of the contents when they picked it up and never told me about the restriction or gave me a chance to get the bottles back. DON'T DO IT. CHECK THEIR TWITTER. READ REVIEWS ABOUT DELIVERY. Quickly glancing at the recent Yelp reviews, it seems like Clutter is running a promotion to leave a review upon pickup of items? And to be honest, that would be a smart move on Clutter's part. The pickup is seamless. The men who helped me pack up my place were awesome, super friendly and efficient. I stored my 1 bedroom apartment in March with Clutter and requested my items be returned to me once I found a permanent spot to live with my boyfriend in July. The men who delivered the items were again the only positive part of Clutter. Hiring kind people may be the only thing they've gotten right. But then, it all went to shit. Once the truck was unloaded, we had the distinct pleasure of discovering that the majority of my furniture was broken. 2/2 of my dressers were damaged beyond repair, that's a 100% dresser fail rate for Clutter. My lamp base was completely shattered. How do you break a lamp base unless you're chucking boxes from the truck into a storage unit? It got better. My bed - one leg was completely missing. My Chemex coffee maker? Simply shards of glass. An assortment of ornaments, broken. When I started unpacking the dishes I expected so little of Clutter, that it feels almost unimportant to mention several wine glasses were broken. Turns out, Clutter knew that they had broken my furniture IN MARCH. When they first packed up my items they were broken in transit and/or when being thrown into my storage unit. Someone had even started the claims process and taken pictures. But nobody thought to let me know? 1. I paid to store these broken items for months. I'm still waiting to hear back from some type of manager, because it's just not right that I'm paying to rent something you broke. 2. My clothes are in trash bags and my bed is on the floor, because Clutter wasn't courteous enough to let me know that they ruined my stuff. I would have ensured that dressers and a bed were purchased and delivered around the same time I moved in had they just given me a heads up. 3. I paid for someone to load and then unload these broken, now junk pieces of furniture. And guess what? I am expected to pay to haul them off to a dump somewhere? Yes, also still waiting to hear back on that point. So, my stuff is broken what happens next? Yes it's been 11 days and I'm still in the claims process. It appears only specific people can discuss claims and that they're incredibly unorganized. In a matter of minutes I was emailed about my claim processing and asked to start my claim. I tried reaching out via phone, via email, and eventually stooped so low as to reach out over Twitter. Don't worry, it didn't matter as they weren't even helpful via DMs (which is typically where escalation managers / super customer support folks thrive). Though to Clutter's customer service teams' credit they "are sorry for the inconvenience" which has truly made everything all better. P.S. I rounded up some of the most recent tweets and attached them below to make it easier on you when you're doing your research (hopefully in time to avoid using Clutter!) Would give no stars if I could. I moved "out of the delivery zone" (that I don't think was a thing when I signed up) and now my only option is to pay Clutter to deliver my items to a third party moving company where they will charge me to unload the items and unwrap the furniture, so that the third party moving company can charge me to rewrap my furniture and load it back up into their truck and deliver it to the final destination 20 miles outside the permissible limit. Their website says Clutter will arrange for a third party to pick up at their warehouse (so I save at least half the cost), but those are lies, according to Clutter's wonderful customer service. We signed up for 2 movers to move our stuff from a ~700ft loft to storage. Clutter charges by the hour, and despite all of our boxes having already been packed by us before the movers came (and the 2 movers only had to box up our TVs and load the trucks), it took them all day for the move which triggered the maximum rate of $1.2K. Also, the movers did not count the boxes in the home before moving into the truck (outside of some pictures), so at this time, I'm not sure if all my boxes are in storage or if some things are missing. Also, during the move, they broke a vegetable garden I own, which the company refuses to compensate for because they said we packed it. All we did to 'pack' was to wrap it with clear plastic to prevent things from scratching. Shouldn't Clutter have added more protection if they believed it might break in their truck, especially since packing was part of the package and the movers did not have to pack anything else outside of our TVs? So what did we pay for: $1.2K for 2 movers from 9am - 5pm to load a truck with boxes we had already spent a week packing (and incurred ~$150 in box, wrap and tape fees ourselves), unload the truck 1 mile away in a storage unit (which we then had to book an extra storage unit because the movers told us originally that all of our stuff won't fit, but later told us they could have stacked the boxes to fit in one but it was already too late for us to get a refund on the extra storage unit), no knowledge of whether all the boxes are actually there in storage because there is no inventory, and a broken garden. The movers were kind people however, I'll give them that. With so many other options in the Bay area, I would not consider using Clutter again. read more

The team of David and Raul were fast, efficient, and nice guys. But what was a new HDTV when I put it into storage, was utterly destroyed, and is now unusable garbage. I've used Clutter for a number of years now and here is why you should stay away from Clutter. Below I have provided why you shouldn't use Clutter. (I've included both positive and negative experiences with the company). Clutter is one of the most efficient movers out there. The reason why you shouldn't use them is because of the MORE THAN 100% fee changes regularly and the add up fees for moving items in and out of your storage. Clutter regularly makes 100% or more changes to your monthly fee. At least once to twice a year. They call it "seasonal fee adjustments". Adjustment is for me is when you make less than 50% change in the original service fee in my opinion.. I paid $138 per month, and Clutter recently bumped it up to $308. They changed my fee from $138 to $258 first, claiming seasonal "adjustment", and then within a month, they added another $50. So now I am paying $308 per month vs $138 per month. This is the sort of price fluctuation every year.. I've called them up 10+ times over the last number of years, and customer service is trained to tell you it's seasonal adjustments for the company to cover the cost of the labor. They all give you the same reason word for word. Do you want to see a service that says it's only $200 for storage and 6 months later, they change it to more than $400? If not, don't use Clutter. The unexpected changes in monthly fee to TWICE the amount is labeled as seasonal adjustment is not something you want to deal with on a regular basis. Secondly, Clutter charges you a $15 to $40 fee per item + service fee + labor fee + tip fee. Here is how it adds up. If you have a dining table for example, they will split it into 3 wrapped pieces to store. It'll cost you $40 for each piece they wrapped. That's $120. The service fee is $50 to $120, depending on the dates. The labor fee is $79 per hour and is free for less than one hour. Tips are $20 to $60. They have 2 to 3 people on site. Total is $190 at least for ONE dining table.. ($120 table + $50 service + $20 tips + Free labor) A bit steep on service fee for one piece of furniture? That being said, here are the positive experiences in regards to its movers. Movers are incredibly efficient. They always have their equipment ready. You would never need to deal with 3 movers moving one trolly. I've used 10+ movers over the years, and they are by far the most organized, well-planned, and efficient movers. The move is always made in less time than what you expects. Clutter Itemized your stuff on a dashboard through your account so you can easily see what you have and what you need to take out. They take labeling very seriously. They will compensate for damages during the move without nickel-and-diming you and make you go through a 10-week process. They are fast at processing damages if any. Overall, I would say let don't the convenience fool you for what they are charging you at the end of the day. Paying for those high move in and move out fee are only worth it if you are moving 10 items or more at once. Trae's partner bailed on him but he wasn't fazed by that at all and was a one man force carefully documenting, wrapping, and loading my items. It absolutely blew my mind that Trae took such good care of all of my items. My only complaint is that the move took twice as long as usual because one crew member failed to show up. They were very communicative, from my first call to them, every step of the way, including day-of updates on their whereabouts before they arrived. A full crew of 7 people - Arthur, Abraham, Briona, Juan Manuel, and three others - came in and packed up everything in a flurry of activity. They were incredibly careful and thorough, which unfortunately took a long time. They worked very hard, on a Sunday afternoon, after doing a couple of other jobs, and kept up the positive energy the entire time. Their hourly rate is the same, regardless of how many crew they bring - a nice, stress-free feature. They were kind and sympathetic to my concerns that I was reaching my space limit, and allowed me to make last-second decisions on the final items to store or keep. Setting up the appointment was simple and the text communications made it super easy to stay informed. As a first time customer, I got a great deal for an 8 month commitment with 2 hours free packing + pick up AND a $100 Amazon gift card. Wow! What I did to prepare and save money on moving time: I packed everything into boxes beforehand and labeled them by number. I kept a list of what items were in each box just in case I needed to access them later. I also measured everything to make sure it would fit into my plan of choice. (HEADS UP! It's a good idea to give some room in your measurements. I ended up being upgraded to the next tier because I underestimated the amount of protection material that was needed for my fragile items. I'm a good Tetris player and could have made everything fit, but Clutter uses estimates rather than precise fittings. Oh well.) On the day of the appointment, I received updates on when my movers would be arriving up to the MINUTE. That really helped because I live in a gated community that can be hard to find, so knowing precisely when the movers would arrive helped me to meet them outside to guide them in. My movers were Kareem and Makye. They were cordial and professional and did an amazing job! I appreciated that they took the time to answer questions I had as best they could. They took care in wrapping any open items and labeling each box and item with barcodes, and uploading the pictures to my account. They finished everything under 2 hours. My reasoning for knocking one star off is that Clutter's concept wasn't clear to me during the time of booking. I thought it was like other storage places where you are given a key and can access your things at any time. NO! Clutter picks up your stuff, packs it away in warehouse several hours away, and when you want them back, they'll deliver it to your door. I used Clutter last weekend to move from our 2 bd apartment. The reason why I am giving 1 star is because of the care they took of our belongings -- they only half wrapped the furniture, so the bottom of the pieces were directly dragged in the sidewalks, destroying the bottom of all our furniture. They also did not wrap a few things at all, and arrived to our new place banged and destroyed. The blankets they used were really dirty, so everything was covered by a disgusting black dust that took forever to clean. They also banged our walls everywhere, so both the staircase and my new apartment now have very visible scratches everywhere. The disassembly and reassembly of the beds was not great -- my son's bed is now wobbly and was not properly put together. They also broke a few screws and can't be fixed. Clutter was the most expensive option there was for movers (June is a busy moving month and all good movers were booked) -- I was hoping for a top service given the price difference with others. The booking process and was easy and efficient. The team was nice, but certainly not experienced and not caring for the items they were moving. We accept responsibility for the missed appointment and the service charge for their time is fair. The problem is now he has to wait 3 weeks for a new drop off time. Another thing I learned about Clutter is that unlike local movers, they actually don't keep your stuff in a local storage facility. After your initial moveout, the first place for your stuff is a local warehouse where they consolidate yours and everyone else's stuff. They then transport everything again to the final resting place of your stuff way out in the boonies. What does this mean? 1) Your stuff gets handled TWICE before going into storage. And you should be wary of the people that handle it the 2nd time. 2) Everything needs to be wrapped. That means your TV, couch, lamp...everything. So because I didn't know this, I elected for the general curbside pickup option. But when my movers came, I had to get requoted for them to actually pack my stuff, which had a much higher cost. 3) Some stuff that local movers would have normally moved had to be disassembled (bed, dining table, legs on my sofa). Which means that I'll have to re-assemble this stuff when it gets taken back out of storage. These things, along with proper instructions on how to redeem my Groupon, were the 2 things that should have been explained to me by the rep when I was getting quoted on the phone. Knowing this now, I should have went with a more traditional option like getting a local storage unit like Public Storage. It would have been way easier, faster, and probably cheaper to move. Still, I give mad props to the moving team, who were efficient, careful, and actually more knowledgeable than anyone I talked to on the phone. read more

(With a special shout out to ELIJAH, who honestly made me feel like the most important customer ever!!) I love to live in unique minimalistic places up and down California, but mainly in my homeland, the Bay Area. I have a slight (huge) problem focusing on anything at all, though, if my environment, especially if it's as tiny as I like, to be cluttered. (Sorry, sorry...that sounds like a commercial. *disorganized) It might be some undiagnosed ADD or sensitivity to whatever, but regardless it's a rather obnoxious tick that I have, and I have spent hours dedicated to trying to "get it just right". And the only solution I can come to so I can salvage my sanity, no joke, is Clutter. Worst moving experience of my life. It took my 2 movers 8+ hours to move a 1 bedroom apartment worth of stuff 4 blocks. I had even packed everything that wasn't furniture in nice sealed U-Haul boxes. They complained incessantly about the 2 flights of stairs and moved about one box every 10 minutes to the truck. Then it was so late when they finished they didn't even unwrap the furniture and take back the absurd 20+ moving blankets they had wrapped everything in. I stored my stuff with Clutter when they were brand new and great, but something happened during pandemic and they went downhill. I was being overcharged and alerted them and they have been giving me the run around for months. I submitted a help ticket months ago and they are not responsive. I have asked for them to measure my items and prove that I am in a space that is too big. I removed over half my items and they are saying that my space contains the same amount as when I started but that is impossible. This company is unethical, deceitful, shady and devious. I was grandfathered into a plan that offered me some benefits that I thought might be useful someday so I stayed in that plan. However they changed my plan, increased the rate and removed the benefits without notifying me. When I inquired they lied. I have a photo that shows that I was alerted that my space was being overcharged. Clutter told me I could save money by downsizing and I was only using 27% of my available space and then when I tried to downsize they said I could not. Dear Chris, I don't understand why no one on your team is accepting responsibility for the issue with my account. I was grandfathered into a space that was equal to my previous storage at Public Storage - it was not a 10 by 10 space-- this measurement was taken later and not based on the actual initial storage. I was on a special plan and I removed half my belongings and I did not add an extra 100 items- there is no possible way that I filled it up to the same amount that I was allotted - y'all are crooks! No one will actually fess up to understanding that I was not a regular plan, and that the reason why I did not downsize when it was offered to me numerous times and I qualified for it is because I wanted to keep the original contract that offered me free pickups.
