We were really craving Hainan Chicken and didn't want to make the trek all the way to Savoy. We got the Whole Chicken and it came out to $57. The price is double what I would have expected to pay for a whole chicken but I figured why not, let's try somewhere new. When I first arrived to pick up my order, the cashier is straight up rude. After asking for my order, she doesn't make eye contact, and just flung the bagged order across the counter, then promptly returned back to her phone. Not a word. Hurray! Very happy to have Cluck2Go here in Arcadia! We used to go to the Pasadena pre-Covid, but didn't like the parking situation there. Much more convenient now! This one is smaller though, more a takeout location, which seems to work fine, judging by the crowd behind me, lol! Ordered their Combo A, which was a better value since I was going to add sides like the cucumber salad etc. Super glad I did because I also got to taste their peanuts, and that was superb!! Well flavored, and whatever they did to it, it was crunchy and tasty! The cucumber salad was pretty yummy too, though I thought the portion seemed small. Of course the most important part is the chicken and the rice. Personally, the rice flavor was good but the texture wasn't quite right...too dry and hard for my taste, think it should be a bit more moist. It shouldn't be so brown either...Might have just been the batch I got. As for the chicken, great flavor too, and quite fresh I might add! I had the dark meat, and it was boneless and fairly soft and moist. It's still not the same as in Singapore though but it will do, since I'm not sure when we can travel back there! I don't think it's practical to have chicken that's fresh versus frozen in the US. I think that's the difference in Singapore, the turnover rate is high enough they use fresh chicken. So for that, chicken still did pretty well for my taste! They also made up for it with their yummy sauces...the "red" sauce is essentially chili, had a good flavor! The "green sauce" is essentially the ginger sauce. We didn't get the dark sweet sauce, which is what's often found in Singapore. I'll have to remember to get some next time! There are several Cluck2go! We went to the one in Arcadia. It's a very small location which only have two dine in tables. Most customers get the Hai Nan chicken Togo. We ordered the combo b the whole chicken and pick the mixed meat option (dark and white meat). Every time we go, Hai Nan chicken is on point. Very very tender and juicy chicken. It's located in the plaza next to Carl's Jr. The famous Hainan Chicken plate comes with your choice of poached white or dark meat, chicken soup, 2 sauces and pickled veggies. The chicken is super moist & flavorful and has a great texture. I like getting the mixed chicken with half dark & half white meats for variety. The chicken soup is very clean and flavorful. Love the pickled veggies! The ginger chili is yum. I like the spicy! The ginger scallion was good too. Love the fried peanuts, there's something in there that is super addicting! We always frequented the Pasadena location and are so glad there's another location even closer to us! Good news for the people who love Hainanese chicken and garlic rice, the famous Pasadena Cluck2go just opened a to go only branch in Arcadia on Duarte next to Carl's Junior. This location is for take out only. Unlike the Pasadena location, there is no dine-in here. The regular and fried versions of the Hainanese chickens are available here too. The service is much faster here. They even made up an ordering card to facilitate the process. Just follow the steps and place the order. The food is ready in a few minutes. The chicken is still tender and tasty. I love the garlic and ginger sauce. But they don't have the sweet soy to go with the garlic rice. I liked the traditional Hainanese chicken better than the fried one as the latter tends to be a bit dry. Prices are still very reasonable. My kids really like the food here. For me the vinegar smell from the pickled veggies is very overpowering when I walk in but my kids don't mind it (surprisingly). My son actually was reading the business sign and thought it was clever and silly name. He very much so it intrigued him, he said "mom we have try cluck 2 go!" Introduction: My best friend and I have been patrons at their original branch in Pasadena. When my best friend informs me there's a Cluck2Go branch in Arcadia, I immediately decide to pay it a visit. Food: Hainan chicken rice [dark meat]: The rice is fragrant and can stand on its own without the need of any sauce. One tastes the chicken oil and broth that were used to cook the rice. The chicken is moist and tender; the skin is silky smooth in texture. It goes great with the minced ginger green sauce. The good part about Cluck2Go is their chicken actually tastes like chicken. Some eateries like San Gabriel's Tasty Choice, their chicken for the Hainan Chicken noodle tastes as if all the flavors have been drained out of the chicken and the patron is stuck with chewing chunks of meat that is tough and bland. The chicken's skin, as mentioned, is silky smooth; it's a trait not to be taken for granted because I have been to restaurants where the skin on the chicken bears the texture of rubber in which no one derives any joy from eating it. The free soup that's included with the Hainan Chicken is a little too light for my taste personally. Hence what I usually do is pour in the excess chicken oil that's found underneath the chicken slices and I mix it with the broth to give it an overall flavor enhancement. To Cluck2Go's credit, I have to give this place props for treating their patrons accordingly because traditionally, Hainan Chicken rice is served with a side of soup. It's unfortunate many restaurants nowadays do not include the soup with their Hainan Chicken rice. By including the soup, Cluck2Go demonstrates they are abiding by tradition and they are treating their clients right. Drink: Wintermelon tea: The flavors are legitimate and on point. One tastes the wintermelon and the brown sugar with each sip. Dessert: Fried bun with condensed milk: The dough is of good quality: it is soft, moist, and al-dente chewy.
