I'm a big fan of Cut, which is a burger place out here in HB and Irvine so I was excited to hear that they were bringing some spicy chicken sandwiches close to my house. Be forewarned that this place does get busy and crowded inside while ordering and waiting for your food. I tried their Nashville style chicken sandwich and I opted for mild after originally asking for medium since the counter person told me that they tend to run on the spicier side. I also did end up, however, ordering their chicken strips in a medium and they weren't kidding when they said that their scale is on the spicier side. I thought the sandwich was good - a bit sweet and spicy, not great - probably 3.6/5.0 on a grading scale. As far as gourmet chicken sandwiches go ($10 and up), the current benchmark in the area (for me) set by Crack Shack is still quite far advanced than what is offered here. Curly fries were very crispy so if you like that then this would be something to get here as well. Overall, I'd rate this place 3.9/5.0 - as their coleslaw is good and not heavy at all. read more

Food would've been great if i got it. I came with my friend and we ordered a minute apart, but he got his sandwich early while i had to stand and wait for 30 minutes. The restaurant was not busy at all yet three front desk attendants were standing there socializing. As time went by they all had their backs turned to me so that they did not have to address me for waiting so long. My friend had finished his sandwich by the time I had realized they had not even started on my sandwich yet... I would choose this restaurant over Chick-Fil-A any day. Absolutely a delight. Since going to Nashville I have missed the hot chicken sandwich and this sandwich satisfied that craving. Their spice definitely has some kick and for optimal mouth feel and flavor eat it fresh. Sandwiches/Meat (that I tried): Nashville Hot: classic and delicious, on the spicier side but still has all the components I enjoy. Juicy, moist delicious and well cooked. A bit on the pricey side BUT you can tell it is cooked with love and care (the chicken is thick). Havarti Hen: a unique take on a fried chicken sandwich but in my opinion was too sweet for my taste, I could see this flavor appealing to other people. Tenders: So much food. This in my opinion is the best deal. The tenders are large and not overtly battered but still have a nice crunch and taste. Tried it with all the sauces I had and it worked with all of them. Forget Chick-fil-A, this is a MUCH better deal and tastes fresher. Wing: Decent size, decent amount of meat, definitely the order for someone who likes bone-in chicken. Otherwise, I would say the tenders are better. Based on the mayo I've tried and chicken quality, I expect the original to be nothing short of delicious. Sides (that I tried): Fried pickles: crispy and delicious, they don't skimp on the batter or the pickle, the ranch it comes with is also delicious. TIP: if you're not eating it right away, open the box to release the steam so it doesn't get soggy. Corn Fritters: Super super crisp and fluffy, not too heavy on the palette and good flavor. The mayo included is delicious as well. Mac & Cheese: The least unique thing in my opinion, but it's perfect for the kids and satisfies the purpose. Fries: Curly fries that are crispy and curly, not much that's unique but closest resemblance is if the McDonald's French Fry and In-N-Out French fry had a baby. Sauces (that I tried): Cluck Sauce: The better of the two custom sauces. It's like ranchy and creamy and flavorful. Can't really put my finger on the exact flavor. Comeback Sauce: A lesser Cane's sauce in my opinion, much more mayo-y than I would've liked and blander than the Cluck Sauce. Lastly, price and ambiance. The staff was very friendly and you could tell they enjoyed where they worked. The restaurant itself is well designed and trendy, I can't wait to go eat there when indoor dining opens again. As for the price, I see that there are people who say that it's expensive and yes, it kinda is in comparison to fast-food fast food but for a fast casual restaurant I would say it's on-par/slightly above. BUT this is the restaurant's only location so be cognizant that it is a small business. If you like the food, and find the price in your budget, continue to support. Will be back. read more

I'm a Korean American, aka I know fried chicken. I tried most of fried chicken and wing places in Irvine and was not satisfied until today. Cluck Kitchen will be my go to fried chicken and wing place from now on. I called Cluck Kitchen to place a takeout and they said they are not taking phone orders yet. They said it should be quick since there weren't crowed yet. So I got there around 11:30 am, and there was only one person front of me. I ordered a cluck classics for my bf, Nashville Hot wings for me, and a corn fritters to share. I chose Medium spice for the wings thinking it will be nothing. It took less then 10 min to get the food. Bf and I had lunch around 12 PM. When I took the first bite of a wing, it was still very crispy and juicy. I tasted little sugar first, and then the heat came on. Oh boy, it was hot and spicy! I was dipping wings in a yogurt cream sauce meant for the corn fritters to balance out the heat, and I found out they are match made in heaven! Yet, I would definitely order mild next time unless I'm stressed out and need to vent out. The corn fritters were good, but could have used more corn kernels. Been waiting for this place to open for a long time. There were lots of delays and the hype was building. I was sure it was going to be a let down but still wanted to try it. I went by the week they opened but it was so crowded, I didn't bother getting in the long line. But today, I walked right in, the menu is simple which made ordering easy and getting the food out quick. I ordered the chicken tenders. For 10 bucks, you get three big tenders. I know it sounds expensive but they are really big, juicy, perfectly breaded and very satisfying. The sandwiches and wings and other items were also on the pricey side but I will be back for a chicken sandwich for sure. They offer a variety of sauces to accompany the meals. I went with the spicey-que which is bbq with a kick. It's not hot, hot, but there is definitely something in there. The other sauces sound very interesting and I can't wait to try them all. Nashville hot chicken, yes it is. I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich with spice level of hot and loved it. It was hot but tolerable for me and it tasted REALLY good. If youre not eating spicy food regularly, I would recommend going down to medium. The comeback sauce is their version of a thousand island. Their ranch is made with dill and is a classic condiment for all. Looks like its first come, first serve. When they run out, theyre out. Can't wait to go back for more and suggest you give them a try. read more

It's a fine pace but they get two stars deducted for two reasons - (1) pricey food, (2) ridiculous hot level. If you think hotness like Dave's Hot Chicken, you're in for a surprise. I'm a kind of guy who bathes food in hot sauce. I love spicy food. But their hotness is inedible and painful. I ordered Extra Hot, which is their second hottest level (not even the hottest), and I couldn't close my mouth for an hour because of the searing pain I felt in my tongue. I'm sucking on a large ice cube as I write this.. drooling like a fking zombie. The experience is like.... imagine you take Halal Guys's hot sauce or the hottest habanero you can find and you marinate your tongue in it for hours then blow torch it. That's how it feels. I'm a huge fan of chicken sandwiches and was wondering how good this would be compared to some of my faves. Being a huge fan of chicken shops I wanted to give this place a shot when it was still under construction. However after having tried it, it was a definite disappointment. First of all, it was $12 for a chicken sandwich, plus $4 for fries and $3 for a beverage, which is just highway robbery for a chicken sandwich. Second, the ratio of the amount of chicken per other ingredients is way off. There is no balance. And the fries were bland. Again, I'm a huge fan of the chicken sandwich shop like Howlin Rays and especially Daves Hot Chicken in LA and San Diego. And sadly, this can't hold a candle to those spots, and I'm not even mentioning the prices. I guess I'll be having to get my chicken fix when I'm out of town. Oh well. read more

Delicious! I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. My husband and I have been doing a Hot Chicken challenge to find our favorite place in the OC area and I was initially surprised at the price of the chicken sandwich ($12) compared to other places being $4-7. However, when I saw the sandwich, it was way larger with two huge pieces of chicken that definitely fit the price tag proportionally to other places. Overall, the flavoring was delicious. It was the right amount of slaw and pickles and the chicken was so juicy and hot with a crispy coat. The person working there told me to get the mild because it was already pretty hot, and I am glad we went with his recommendation. Mild at this place is basically "hot" at other places. It was a bit messy to eat (imagine hot oil dripping on your hands through the wrapping as you bite in it) but they give you lots of napkins in preparation for your meal! If I were to come back, I'd probably split the sandwich and share some fries! Perfect meal for 2 people. read more

So comparing to what people know is the best should be a form of flattery but becoming the best is a different story. I did Howlin' Ray's and honestly did not think too much about them. The hype was just that: hype. Places rarely meet expectations but Cluck redefines what I know to be Nashville style hot chicken. I thought I had a high tolerance for spice but erred on the side of caution and went with medium. I'm glad I did. Medium was just hot enough. I enjoyed the tenders as the meat was tender juicy and the flavors popped. The wings I tried next but it didn't have the same zing (I'm thinking my tastebuds were fried by this point). For the sides, we got sweet corn poppers and fried pickles. They were good but not great. Pickles were breaded too heavily or too thick and the sweet corn poppers were not corn-y enough. All in all a great experience. I'm really there for the meat of the place (pun intended) which of course is the cluck. I'd highly recommend it. Came on a Saturday evening at around 5PM. Wasn't too packed, and the line moved fairly quickly. There were only 4 parties in front of me. Ordered the nashville hot sandwich with the "hot" spice level, which was the perfect level of spice for me. The sandwich was huge and really filled me up. I really enjoyed the first bite of my sandwich, but as I dove deeper into the sandwich, the chicken breast was a bit too thick for my liking. I would've preferred a smaller meat to batter ratio. The seasoning was ok as well. I didn't think the chicken was as flavorful as Howlin' Ray's. I did like the comeback sauce and the coleslaw that were in the sandwich. Unfortunately, they ran out of fries when I came. Ended up dropping by the nearby McDonald's for my fries fix. read more

I saw a new fried chicken sandwich place open in Irvine and the pictures looked amazing so we had to give this place a try. First off, the workers and cashier were really helpful and friendly. They answered all our questions about the menu and did not get annoyed even though they probably get asked the same questions all the time. Now onto the food. We ordered the cluck classic sandwich, Nashville hot sandwich, fried pickles, and corn fritters. If you're into McChickens, you'll love the cluck classic. It's basically a bigger version of the McChicken. The chicken was really juicy and fried well. The sandwich seemed to be lacking some flavor though. Same with the Nashville hot sandwich. You can taste the spices, the slaw was good, bun was toasted, chicken was juicy, but the flavor wasn't there again. Both sandwiches had everything you'd want a great chicken sandwich to have but just didn't taste right. I think you'll get more flavor from a chick fil a sandwich. The fried pickles were good but nothing special, however the corn fritters were the highlight of the meal. They were unique and tasted like mini fried cornbread clouds. Seriously, if you like corn bread and fried foods, you'd have to try this. Lastly, the sauces were okay. The cluck sauce was good, it's similar to a chick fil a sauce but not as thick. Definitely was worth the wait! I ordered the chicken tenders and corn fritters. The corn fritters were great. It had some of the seasoning on it and came with a creamy white sauce. What really impressed me were the chicken tenders!! These were probably the best chicken tenders I've ever had!! The chicken was moist and had a good light coat of crisp breading. I hate it when you order chicken tenders and you get more breading than chicken or when the chicken is dry and tough. The Cluck has certainly set a new standard! The chicken here was so fresh and tender! I have a low spice tolerance so I got the mild chicken tenders. But it still packed on the Nashville heat! TBH I did shed a few tears (of joy) and my tongue was fiery. The sauces really complemented the food and helped curb the spice level. What I appreciate also is that though this is fried food, I didn't feel too heavy or greasy after enjoying my meal. All the pleasure of deliciousness without the guilt! Awesome Nashville style chicken place. I've only tried their tenders more than five times. The extra hot is super spicy, so make sure that you can handle ghost papers. I could handle up to two extra hot tenders but third one was pretty challenging. 1. Very crispy but the chicken is juicy and tender. 2. The cluck sauce is more like a honey mustard sauce with a twist. Very creamy and bold. 3. The size of tenders change dramatically day to day.
