So here's the story…read more.. I responded to a CubeSmart advertisement on their website for a 10x7x8 unit and reserved it. I was told 5 minutes later in email after I reserved the unit that there wasn't any 10x7x8 units available but would be given a 5x15x8 unit at the same price. Miraculously my things fit into a 5 x whatever space, so I agreed with some suspicion. They are still advertising 10x7x8 units after switching me to a 5x15x8 a week later. So the first round of paperwork comes in and the numbers all add up, so I signed. Then, a week later - for no reason - I receive an email stating my unit number changed, asking for me to resign the paperwork. This paperwork had the unit at $15/mo a month more than the previous paperwork I had already signed. Good thing I read paperwork, they almost got away with some classic bait-and-switch. At the end of the day, these are your personal goods, your family heirlooms, things you care about. Take this cautionary tale seriously before you entrust this group with it.

I rented 3 units at different times at this storage space. I rented online at an advertised "web…read morerate" which required that I pay 4 months in advance. When renting the units, I looked for any information that would tell me that the rate would go up and didn't see any information on the rate going up after a period of time and I can't find any information saying that the web rate is temporary. In fact, you can book a storage facility on their website without it displaying the "In Store" rate vs. the "Web Rate" if you are comparing different Extra Space storage facilities. They also give you a discount if you set up auto payment on your credit card. (Which I now understand why) After the 4 months was up, they raised my rates to almost double what I signed up for. When I called to understand, they told me they are required by law to notify me of an increase and they sent me a letter in the mail. They have my email and phone number and could have notified me via email and/or text message at no cost to them, yet, they only sent a letter in the mail which I haven't received. This feels to me like a bait and switch and a scam. I didn't even notice the increase in the fees for a few months because my card was being charged automatically. I have called twice already and they gave me a very slight discount (yet no credit on my previously billed charges). I have requested someone from corporate to call me and have not yet had a response. I will update this review when I hear back from them.
