As an update, I want to advise that management did finally agree to refund the unused portion of my last month's charge.

BEWARE. I signed up for a month to month agreement, and the only way they let you know of any type of rent increase is by paper mail, once. There is no follow up. But then they expect you to access all other contractual documents and invoices via e-mail. They are well aware that this is not good business practice, as when I asked to speak to a manager or someone to call outside of the facility, I was told that they weren't allowed to escalate anything regarding rent increases. Similar to another review, they told me it was a "promo" rate even though that was never disclosed in any communications or documents, so I had zero expectation of a change. I was told that the longer I stay in the unit, the more my rent will go up, at whatever cadence/amount is decided upon by Extra Space Storage. If I didn't check my texts and notice that they increased our rent for the unit, I never would've known. This is, as another review said, PREDATORY BILLING. Beware. The price you are signing up for isn't the price they are apparently required to adhere to. And even if you didn't get the 1 piece of mail they sent, they will tell you that it doesn't matter and you are required to pay. If you dispute the charge with your credit card company, they'll deny you access to your personal items. We will be pulling all of our belongings and putting them in another facility. 0 stars. read more

I would give this zero stars if I could. Be ready for surprise billing and bait and switch prices. This is basically one level short of a scam. My rent was jacked up 50% after one month without my knowledge or approval and the company told me to kick rocks when I complained. They told me it was a "promo" rate even though that was never disclosed in any communications or documents, so I had zero expectation of a change. They also failed to notify me via email despite sending every other communication via email. This is 100% on purpose as I'm sure they know people will not go to the trouble of renting a uhaul and moving all their stuff out right after moving in and so intentionally engage in false advertising on upfront price. I have a unit at the storage facility on West Main Street in Stamford, CT. Every month I receive an email that they have successfully charged me for my unit but yet there was no communication to let me know that the gate to the storage facility is down. The first time I got there and saw it was broken was over three weeks ago and as of this past Monday it still has not been fixed. Plus, their "signage" telling customers the alternate way in is placed well behind the police tape and not even identifiable from where my car was able to pull up -- I had to get out, cross over the tape and go to the keypad to see what I could do to access my unit. Additionally the contact phone number on the office door "for the person on the grounds" does not work. All calls to it fail. Once you do enter at the alternate entrance there is no instruction as to how to exit. This is a major fail. How hard is it to communicate to your customers?? This issue has cost me quite a bit of wasted time. Is there any refund for that? I'm sure not. They only seem to know how to increase the rent every couple of months. read more

I am impressed with how easy Extra Space made moving. I called to reserve the unit and was given a great deal because a phone special was happening. I was given all the ​detailed information I needed to sign a remote contract, so I could sign close to where I lived compared to close to where​ I was moving. They provided all the accurate gate and lock information so everything went smoothly. The unit was large for a 10x10 and clean. Stored extra furniture and small kitchen appliances here for 12+ months in a 10x10 on the 3rd floor of the main climate controlled building. Unfortunately there was mice damage to one item and lots of mouse feces in the unit, on lamp bases etc and in one of my rolled carpets. Management when requested would not reimburse a $250 claim citing I didn't buy their insurance, however one would expect that a professional operation not to have rodents. In hindsight, the building is a little old and I should have looked elsewhere. Nice people and responsive, however given the thousands of dollars I paid for the storage duration, it would have been nice to see some support for an incident that clearly points to poor quality control on their end. read more

What an absolute disaster! I called on January 7 and spoke with a woman named Jean Ann in HQ to reserve a 10x10 climate controlled unit. She was nice enough and informed me they would hold a unit for me until 1/19 at a price of $154/month or $217/month (with the first two months free) at the Stamford Main Street location. After hanging up, I promptly got a call from Anthony, a manager of the Stamford/Main Street facility who welcomed me and confirmed the same information, telling me what I had to bring into the office on or before January 19. My wife and I arrived on January 17 to check in, only to discover from Michael at the facility that no reservation was in fact made for us. When we complained, he didn't lift a finger to help us or try to correct the situation. Indeed, he never even rose from his chair and was not interested in the least in assisting us and seemed completely indifferent toward representing Extra Space Storage and standing by their good name. After departing in disgust, I once again contacted HQ to complain and after they said they spoke with Anthony, the gentleman at HQ claimed they would honor our reservation and that I would hear from District Supervisor David before the end of the day. We received no such call. As far as I'm concerned, Extra Space Storage failed at every step of the process, and I will have absolutely nothing to do with them ever again. There are plenty of other storage companies to work with in the area, and I am confident another such company will treat us far better and with much more respect. DO NOT STORE YOUR THINGS HERE!!! I have just taken my winter clothes out of storage from this place. They were infested with moths! Bugs chewed holes in almost all of my winter clothes. I called the manager, Raymond. He gave me the phone number of his insurance company and told me to argue with them. He absolutely refused to pay for any damages at all. I even offered to bring some of my ruined clothes for him to see the holes. He said he wouldn't deal with me at all and it wasn't his responsibility to compensate me. But what sets Extra Space Storage of Stamford CT apart head and shoulders above other storage facilities that I have used in the past is the attitude of the staff at this center. They are frendly, helpful, accomodating, respectful, and very ready to meet your needs. I like doing business there because they are nice to me! They make me feel like a "valued customer". I came in and rented a unit the staff was wonderful. I came in a week later to cancel my unit, (never put anything it or put a lock on the unit), they told me I didn't get any reimbursement!!! I just think that is terrible customer service. So, I'm out $200!!! read more
