We signed up for a storage unit in October. Pleasant staff, lovely storage unit. There was a guy in there who had multiple units and we overheard him talking about how much the price had increased, which should have warned us off. Alas, they raise the rent every few months. This was the first time I needed to rent a storage unit didn't know much about prices etc At 1st I thought they place was great , staff seemed nice, convenient location & was not sure about price until now. On my 9th month I received an increase. I just continued to pay. I get a notice recently, my 15th month they are increasing again. So now I'm paying 20% more then when I started So I decided to email them figuring maybe they will be sympathetic. This past year has been a crazy time, people lost family members, income & life as we knew it may never be the same. We need some compassion and unlike businesses who get emergency funds & ppp loans, us individuals did not. Now I looking to see (after you read the response below, why) on my floor where my unit is there is a lock on every door so business must be okay. They advertise "FAMILY Owned Business" like it means they care about you. No they don't This was the response I received when I asked about my high increases. "Unfortunately this is a normal practice of all storage phacilities. Please sign and return the attached form with your move out date, we do require a 10 day notice and you will have to come in to the office on move out day and sign move out form and unit would have to be inspected." I expected. Let me see what I can do, or I will get back to you, NOTHING. So I went to another local facility, with lots of parking,. The rental rate for the same size unit is $50 less then when I started rented at u.s. storage and now with the increases it will be half the price I spoke to the manager, I asked all the right questions this time . When will my first Increase be? (Only after the 1st year) Apx % of that increase? (Less then 10%) He said to me if you receive an increase and you feel you can't afford it at that time, please give us a call we will work with you. Now that is the the customer service you expect. I gave me my notice at US Storage so I expected to vacate early n get half month credit back to me They said no. The month was processed in the 1st. So now I have to sit with my empty unit and schedule to go sign n let them inspect the unit Do I have to hire an attorney to come with me. Lol. Message me if you want need a good storage place Don't get settled in, get comfy and just when a snow storm season comes you get an increase notice 15 months in and either pay ransom for you unit or move out in bad weather. Karen, the site manager, was wonderful. The space is ideal, clean, with a fresh coat of paint on the floor. Very convenient location.

STAY AWAY from the one in Hawthorne NY. When I signed up with them I was told I would get 50% off of the first 2 months and if I gave them a good review I would get 50% off a third month. When I tried getting the 50% off of the third month I was told that it was a contest and their corporate off would select one person to eligible for this. They clearly lied to me when I signed up. They will tell you anything so you rent a space. read more

Absolute Nightmare! Be Warned! First, the rent increases are plentiful and frequent. You are also forced to buy their insurance in case there are any incidents included negligence on their part. I wasn't notified of this requirement until AFTER I was in the unit. Several units flooded last March due to a broken pipe. Karen, their office clerical's response was, "I don't know what to tell you." No empathy, no compassion at all. The facility's written response to everyone was to inspect your unit and make sure everything inside is dry so no mold can grow. When you hired movers to pack your storage unit full of furniture, etc., it isn't easy to just pull everything out and examine it. The letter also said they would work with tenants but when I asked for help unloading my unit, I was told help wasn't available and it was my responsibility. No assistance was offered whatsoever, no discounts were given for the inconvenience, no compensation of any kind was offered. This past December, several tenants were informed that our units would need to be accessed to upgrade their sprinkler system. They needed a key or they'd cut the locks. Per Karen, USSC staff would empty the contents and put everything back in exactly as it was. We were not welcome to supervise under the guise they had no schedule of which units would be accessed and when but the process would be videotaped. I knew this would be a fiasco - and indeed it was. Nothing was put back the way it was. Things I was able to access easily were nowhere to be found. Items are undoubtedly damaged as I noticed boxes of wine glasses and glass (clearly marked) at the bottom of stacks of other boxes. I also advised Karen that a china cabinet was at the back of the unit and to please have the staff be careful. Part of the cabinet in now in the front of the unit and the other in the back and I can't understand why it wasn't reassembled the way it was. When I brought this to Karen's attention, her response, once again was, "I don't know what to tell you." What a surefire way to infuriate a paying customer! I received no resolve during our exchange, just frustration and anger with her lax and dismissive attitude. No notice was given to advise that they were done accessing my unit, in fact, no communication was had at all except to threaten to cut locks if not given access. When asked, Karen refused to give me her manager's name and number, further exasperating the situation. What kind of facility won't give managerial information under these circumstances??? You'd think they'd bend over backwards to accommodate their clients. The police were called, and eventually I was told I'd get a call from Ron Morton, District Manager and I have heard NOTHING. During this same visit, I noticed an employee reassembling another storage unit but just throwing boxes to the top of a stack of boxes he couldn't reach - no ladder, no care, no nothing. I am horrified by what I saw and sickened thinking what my belongings are going to look like when I get in there to examine them (and remove them!). Karen's response, "well that's what the insurance is for." No, Karen. The insurance is not so you can be negligent and careless with items that are precious and priceless to customers who pay money to store them safely at your facility every month! I am floored with their attitude, their lax attitude, and the fact that no one has bothered to reach out and acknowledge me especially since they won't share management's contact information. Floored! Bottom line, stay away from the Hawthorne, NY facility on Brady Ave. if you are storing anything that is of value to you! They are careless, neglectful, lax and irresponsible! But they are very good at raising rents in a timely fashion and to let you know that the only value to them in the phrase "valued customer" is your payment every month. read more

We have been on a long journey to find a space to store our camper and when we made our reservation we were unable to drive up for three days. The staff was so patient and understanding, Karen made sure to call us and follow up. She was so attentive and helpful. Karen really made this experience an easy and smooth one. read more
