They moved us to a unit in the back building, which appears newer, but it did cost us a few more $$ for the same size unit. One star off, because CubeSmarts billing have an interesting payment FEE added if you pay in any other way than at the location, or via Auto-pay. Auto-Pay accepts credit cards, for $0 FEE. BUT beware that if you don't setup Auto-pay before your first payment is due (after the rental day), there is NO way to avoid paying a 2% FEE for an online or phone payment using a credit card, and CubeSmart will not allow you to register for Auto-pay until you pay that first month's bill, and the FEE, unless you're willing to drive back to the location to pay in-person. This is a short-sighted decision by CubeSmart to nickel-and-dime small amounts of money from customers who are often customers for years. There is very little upside for them, and a silly amount of downside (for example, you're reading this right now!), so hopefully they find these FEES worth it to their business. If I sound a little annoyed - you're right! =) So, advice for 11 Cedar renters: 1) Choose the rear building, if the attached photos matter to you, and 2) If you care about FEEs, setup Auto-pay ASAP after you rent.

There is a huge miscommunication between office staff and when you call the customer service number 888-786-7243; I was told do not make my payment until I receive a call form the DM and then the office has the nerve to issue a one time $80 credit and then issue a $120 late fee. Be ware when renting here your monthly rent price will raise quickly and they are not staffed or equipped for any issues.

I was the very first customer at the Hawthorne facility decades ago. I was there until a month…read moreago. Everything that was good had turned bad. By the way, their site adverises 562 5 star reviews, but you should read some of them. You won't see mine, I'm betting. It started with the every-three-months rent increases. If I'd stayed, I would be paying close to $7,000 a year for a 10x15 space with no electricity at a storage site where the front gate hasn't been reliably closed in over a year. The tenant over me decided to store two large bags of ice melt which liquified and dripped into my space causing hundreds of dollars of damage. Another tenant (same one?)) complained that the generator I used to keep batteries charged was leaving "smoke" in the climate controled area. That wasn't true, but I bought outdoor cable covers and moved the generator 30 feet away against the fence. A year later I get a call telling me that "corporate" didn't want anything "electrical" going on and that I couldn't use the generator. Note that I used a Furman industrial power surge protector (for trickle chargers...).Funny thing: at least two other renters used their generators at the same site. I needed to get tree sap off my wife's car and all my cleaning equipment was at Hawthorne. Site manager sees me and says "This isn't a car wash". He also related that another tenant had complained that I had washed a motorcycle there. Horrors! US Storage is at least the fourth owner and operator of this site, and they successfully drove me out. NIce work.

Very unfortunate situation I find myself in. I have been renting from this location for 5 or 6…read moreyears. They raised my rent after the first 6 months. Then they tried again about 2 years ago, I called around to other storage locations and found better deals. Presented my findings and they left my rent alone. Now today, without any prior notice I see they took my rent up $10. As if I wouldn't catch the increase. Sneaky and very unethical. When I first started renting the place was clean, over the last few years it seems to have gone down hill. Looks like I'll be moving out... real soon.
