A very cool comic shop with a lot to offer for comic fans…read more With their ever-present Halloween decor and surprisingly organized interiors, Gotham Comics is not your run of the mill comic shop. From new issues to back log, everything has a neat and tidy place, making browsing quick and effortless. They place a variety of mid-level rare comics ranging in price from $15 to $40 near most of the comic shelves, which make for both excellent window shopping and dangerous impulse purchases. They have a nice selection of old and new comics, mostly from DC and Marvel, so Gotham might not be great if you're looking for more obscure or niche comic brands. Similarly, this is a comic shop first, and things like games have a small presence. I also have to mention the staff working at Gotham. The employee was super helpful, going above and beyond in looking for issues that I couldn't immediately find. He made my visit feel extra special. The only downside with this comic shop is that it isn't located closer to my home! Otherwise I'd go there every week!

Quaint little comic book shop that totally gives off the "local comic shop" vibe from the 90's…read more Take it for what it is, and don't expect it to have everything you're looking for. But if you're looking for mainstream new releases, chances are you'll find them on release day (maybe the week after too). Not too much else to look at, especially collectibles, so your visit will probably be a whole lot shorter than other comic book shops (which is better for your wallet). But if you're in the area and you're in a pinch for that new Batman comic, this is your place. It was a hot day when I visited and they just had a couple floor fans running. Nothing gets me out of a comic book shop faster than sweaty hands on loose/unbagged books. And for parking, expect to circle around a couple times (plan to pay for a meter). But service is super friendly and they take card. And like I said, for what it is/does it's still a 5 star place

And believe me, it…read moretook me a while hunting for the next perfect comic shop when my old one had done such an amazing job over the years. Unbelievable, but there are a lot of comic shops around that are just not professionally run (I'll just leave it at that) Dewey's is definitely a solidly run comic shop. I had been to them a few times in their old location, but parking was horrible over there so I didn't go often. Their new location in Dover actually has great parking so it is easy getting there. At first, the professionalism of the store sold me on making it my regular store. But as I kept going back, i realized just how amazing the staff is there. They know their comic stuff, and are really friendly. I found out after I had praised John (the main counter staff) to a friend that he has been there for many years and is a big part of the store's appeal... I can definitely see that as he's been nothing but amazing to me.. When I set up my pull list in the beginning, I mentioned that in addition to my main books could he throw anything Captain Cold related in. Yes, i know it was a vague request that couldn't be "programmed" easily, but I figured I'd mention it. And I've been delighted to find non-Flash books with Captain Cold showing up in my box. That was impressive on quite a few levels. I joined Dewey's for the professionalism, but am staying because of the friendliness and amazing attention to small details... highly recommended!

Note: This shop is currently located at 105 N Union Ave, Cranford, NJ 07016 (they moved across the…read morestreet from 102 years ago). I have submitted this change and their updated hours to Yelp to change this listing. I grew up going to comic shops almost weekly. I have fond memories of going to places like Forbidden Planet's original two floor Manhattan location, Jim Hanley's Universe near Herald Square and Bill & Bob's in Brooklyn. As a young Nerd these were formative experiences that I treasure. Sadly, as the digital era encroaches on publishing, comic shops are not as common as they used to be. There was a time were almost every other town or neighborhood had one, but nowadays they are few and far between. I used to go to Classic Comics in Rahway but they went downhill at top speed a long time ago (and have since closed). When I was hunting for a new shop to park my pull list Rogue Comics came up in my searches and I'm so glad it did. While I originally went to the location across the street, not much has changed with its new location. This is a medium sized comic shop, so not as big as say, the current Forbidden Planet in Manhattan but it doesn't need to be. A lot of the goods here are condensed, almost to the point of clutter at times but that just means there are plenty of treasures to be found. Roughly the layout is Transformers, blind boxes, DC, Marvel and Diamond Selects stuff towards the front. Then a wall of Marvel and DC comics with new releases in the middle. Towards the back are more obscure comics and a Star Wars section. Lining the upper shelves near the ceiling are higher end items like HasLab vehicles or Hot Toys/Sideshow style figures. At the main counter are lots of statues on display (and of course, for sale). Pete, the owner is awesome. One of the things Geeks love to do is "talk shop" about the latest goings on in the world of scifi/fantasy and comics and he is a font of knowledge. If you need something he doesn't have, he is more than happy to see if he can get it for you. I have my pull list set up at Rogue and I rarely have issues with it. Maybe once in a blue moon an issue may be missing but I just look through it, ask about it and most of the time it's in the box somewhere so no big deal. The prices at Rogue are fair given that it is a small business. For action figures, don't expect Amazon prices, but given they often have stuff you won't find in stock at say, Target, the extra few bucks are well worth you burning gas to find the figure all over town. I love Rogue Comics and recommend it to anyone interested in scifi/fantasy collectibles and comics.

Mike the owner is very accommodating and it very fair to sellers when making offers to buy their books. (Often explaining how much they would be resold for an makes a reasonable offer based on that price). Mike and Jackie have excellent knowledge about Comics, Toys and Funco Pops and serious collectors shop there weekly because of them. I'm at a total loss for why there are some bad reviews here, Yes they have a sign that they are always buying, but you are best calling ahead and asking when the owner is in (which is almost all the days). As he is the one that will make the best offer and he really knows what sells well and doesn't. (Avoid Sundays and Mondays if you are there to sell your collection). Word to the wise, when selling a collection, it is always best to call ahead, see when the best time to visit is and see if they are interested in your collection. If they are, this is a great place to deal with as you won't get robbed. Naturally they are a business and need to stay profitable and need to buy at a rate that allows them to mark it up, but you aren't going to walk in with a rare comic that is worth $500 and walk out with 20 dollars, I've seen Mike buy and he is very honest. (Sometimes that means that he has to refuse to buy items that he can't sell, and other times people walk out with much more than expected. A reviewer complained about parking during a snow storm. My feeling is that the person with the car parking problem wasn't even dealing with the people who own the comic shop, probably from another business or an irate person who is a customer of the vacuum shop. Another reviewer said that they didn't feel comfortable there and I find this hard to fathom, I've always felt comfortable there and noticed that they treat their regular customers like family, often knowing about them, their jobs and families and remembering to ask them about things that they have shared about their lives (Changing Jobs, Children's health, Weddings, loss of family members, etc.).

Unfortunately, the condition of those back-issue books rarely reflects the significantly higher prices they charge. As an avid comic collector and seller myself, I'm well aware of market value. And their prices are well -above- market value. Keep in mind, this is only regarding their back issues. The new release section had standard new-release pricing and was well stocked. So if I ever decide to visit again, it will only be for the new releases and nothing else.

I want to tell you about a holiday kindness done for my family by a local business…read more My family is a comic book loving family. I donated my old collection of books and graphic novels to the high school, we hit all the movies, etc. Of course this makes us supporters of the geekery here in Matawan. So much so, I follow them across social media. Well at the start of March when the pandemic was starting to get noticed, I lost my job as a private company school bus driver because of school closures and my son became very sick, not covid related. Worryingly sick. We were at the ER three times, ended up with a specialist at Children's Hospital in New Brunswick, and finally a diagnosis with an autoimmune disease, something terrifying during a pandemic. It's been hard and scary, and now we're stuck inside like my son is the boy in the bubble, and I've talked about this on Twitter over the past month. Well the geekery reached out to me on Twitter. They noticed its been a hard time for us and how sick my son has been and asked if they could bring him an Easter basket to brighten his day. Less than 5 minutes later there was a package on my back doorstep. Thank you to the geekery for offering something fun and unexpected! It's good there's still kindness being shared during this frightening time. I hope when this is all over and we can start going out to the shops again, the geekery is still around filled with heroes both fictional and very real.

Good selection of longboxes in easy to pull out drawers, which was unique. Selection of graphic novels, collectables, and Pop Vinyl was also good. Limited selection of wallbooks. Large selection of new pull comic books, one of the best in the area. JC Comics is better than your average New Jersey comic shop stock wise. Staff member was helpful when you needed it. I can understand why some people might miss this shop, as you have to deal with a busy highway to access the complex. JC Comics should not be missed and is a solid shop.

It was certainly…read moreeasy to get to (right off the main highway), tucked between a few other businesses in the same building. The first thing that caught my attention was their enormous selection of new issues. An entire wall was lined with plenty of recent issues, plus some from the past few months. A decent-sized back issue section was scattered around the rest of the store in various bins. A large portion of those bins was inaccessible because one employee was using the tops as a surface to price other books. I really don't like when comic shops do that. It prevents customers from buying the books (and it could damage the books underneath). Apart from that, the back issues were priced slightly above, or even way above, market value, which kept me from making any big purchases. Though there was a 50¢ bin, but most of those were unbagged trash comics. This place is certainly not a bad place for new releases, but for back issues I'd probably go somewhere else.
