My son had been asking me to go to the "Batman Bookstore" for a while now. We decided to go one random Saturday. It was everything I expected and then some! First off the owner is a super nice and helpful guy. He told me his backstory that he had visited the same store as a child and now is the proud owner. They have wall to wall comic books - mostly teen and up. They had a small section for small kids super hero books. There selection overall was abundant. Prices were fair and reasonable. Like all boys early in their life, I used to be into comic books. Now, not so much. After going to Deweys, maybe that can change things. Go and browse. Started going to Dewey's regularly after my local comic store went online only. And believe me, it took me a while hunting for the next perfect comic shop when my old one had done such an amazing job over the years. Unbelievable, but there are a lot of comic shops around that are just not professionally run (I'll just leave it at that) Dewey's is definitely a solidly run comic shop. I had been to them a few times in their old location, but parking was horrible over there so I didn't go often. Their new location in Dover actually has great parking so it is easy getting there. At first, the professionalism of the store sold me on making it my regular store. But as I kept going back, i realized just how amazing the staff is there. They know their comic stuff, and are really friendly. I found out after I had praised John (the main counter staff) to a friend that he has been there for many years and is a big part of the store's appeal... I can definitely see that as he's been nothing but amazing to me.. When I set up my pull list in the beginning, I mentioned that in addition to my main books could he throw anything Captain Cold related in. Yes, i know it was a vague request that couldn't be "programmed" easily, but I figured I'd mention it. And I've been delighted to find non-Flash books with Captain Cold showing up in my box. That was impressive on quite a few levels. I joined Dewey's for the professionalism, but am staying because of the friendliness and amazing attention to small details... highly recommended! read more

New Jersey has a mixture of comic shops. There are some grand and large ones like you'll find in New York City, but more often in smaller towns there are small "mom and pop" style shops such as Dewey's Comic City. This shop in Madison, NJ isn't big, but it's definitely well stocked. When you first enter there's a cashier right there to greet you. To the right is a peg rack of action figures. The rest of the store has comic books scattered throughout. While there are several shelves with current and recent single issue releases, there is a very impressive graphic novel collection lining the walls. Everything is very nicely organized and I was quite impressed with how well utilized the staff used the space. The prices were also very fair. The action figures were only marked up by about $3-4 beyond Amazon prices (which for a small store is very good). The day I went there was a Halloween sale going on with 25% off graphic novels. I was very impressed. The young man behind the counter was very nice and answered questions knowledgably. They even had free candy for Halloween, which I thought was a cute, neighborly touch. We noticed this little comic book store on a joyride we had the other day so we decided to come back and try it out. The store is a tiny store as most comic book stores are. The service inside was very good they definitely care about their customers. On the wall they have a color of the coloring page and bring it back on another visit for free comic book $3.99 or less. We asked about this however they were out of the sheets and instead the owner gave us a coloring book and told us we could color a picture and bring it back. That was very nice of him. They also sell "Weird New Jersey" which is always a plus in my book! If you've never heard of it Google it. This is not a comic store Wal-Mart like so many other places strive to be. Instead, Dewey's has laser-focused their priorities on offering customers a wide selection of the newest books (as well as exclusive variants), trade paperbacks, and graphic novels in a clean, inviting atmosphere. I've been to plenty of stores in Northern NJ, and no one comes close to the book offerings of Dewey's. They may not be a big store, but they are one of the best. The storefront is bright and inviting, and the large windows provide ample natural lighting for the store, handily avoiding that basement-y feel present in similar establishments. Sometimes they have special events, such as signings and sales, located in the front of the store. For a store of this size, the events that they run are impressive. For example, Free Comic Book Day always has several professional writers and illustrators doing free sketches and signings. Dewey's often plays host to writers and artists throughout the year, so if you're interested in seeing what's going on I suggest you sign up for their email newsletter (not spammy, probably get 1-2 emails per week). I'm a subscriber, and they treat their members very well. My books are pulled and paid for each month, and I have to do is drop by and grab my pre-paid bag of fresh reading material. There are also additional benefits for members, such as a reward point system based on every dollar you spend, early access to sales, and everyday discounts on comic storage supplies. If there's ever anything you wanted thats not in stock, they will gladly order it for you. Dewey's is also a great place for kid's comics, so if you're looking to get your child into comics just bring them here. The kid's comic section by the front of the store is very well-stocked with tons of titles and the display is placed lower to the ground so younger fans can comfortably peruse the comics. Dewey's isn't a large place, but they squeeze alot of good into a fairly small space. Their new issues are good, what you expect when you go for your weekly fix, but where this place really shines is Trade Paperbacks and high value single issues. Their trade paperback collection is extremely impressive, particularly given the size of their space. This includes your Marvel and DC as well as a nice collection of popular indie titles like 100 bullets, fables and preacher. Their high value comic collection is also excellent, particularly for a shop this size. The issues they carry are often desirable (not just old) and the prices they ask are fair (given an issue's condition and desirability). The ambiance to this place is very nice, it's bright, spotless and really well organized. They don't really have a heavy selection of comic related stuff (toys, statues, etc. ) but it's not what this store is about - and given their upside and limited space, I can forgive this omission. The people you deal with are really nice, particularly the owner, I met and spoke with him recently and he's a good guy. Let's be clear - I keep saying these things are good for a shop of this size, but this isn't just a good for a small comic store, it's just a GOOD comic store. read more

One of the great comic shops of North Jersey, Dewey's stands out among a list of good shops, because the store is well organized, clean, professional, and has a nice selection of carefully chosen products. The owner is a nice guy who knows the business well and has a very good business model for his store. This shop specializes in new comics and graphic novels, among other things. The focus is not on back issues, but if you want that, there are numerous other shops you can find for back-issues. They do have them, just not on the store floor. About 1 or 2 times a year Dewey's throws a 50 cent back issue event where you can pick up back issues for pocket change! I use this shop for their great subscription service, excellent selection of unusual new stuff, and superb customer service. They also have nice sales frequently and events. The shop is relatively small, but it is uncluttered and well organized and has lots of product. Definitely worth a stop if you are near Madison or out and about hunting the numerous excellent comic shops of New Jersey. read more

Recently I went to Dewey's looking for a copy of Weird NJ. I called ahead and spoke with a super helpful clerk. When I went to pick the issue up a few days later I loved seeing how organized, bright, and clean the shop was. The clerk was again helpful, funny, and had answers for other questions that came up. I was very, very impressed with this comic shop. Excellent selection of new comics, with one of the best presentations I've seen yet. No back issues to speak of, but this is a good thing because they emphasize trade paperbacks and graphic novels instead. Innovative bookstore style display of their trades really makes a good impression. They had new graphic novels for the week discounted 15% off. Their "Adult Summer Reading" list titles were all discounted heavily. Nice promotion. Very neat and organized store. Helpful staff. I'll be back. read more

Was in the area yesterday and figured I'd stop in and poke around as I hadnt been here since about a year ago. Nice comic shop, fully loaded with new comic , trades, toys etc..I added the extra star because the last time I was down they only had a small long box of silver/bronze age books and pricier stuff on the wall ..im more into these kind of comics than more recent ones. This trip however wow they pulled the stops out in terms of nice selection of back issues silver and bronze age..fairly priced too. they even had a few mag boxes of old marvel and warren black and whites. they have a super friendly and helpful staff too. Another great comic shop in central NJ. Primarily focuses on newer books and graphic novels with some collectible card gaming on the side, if you are into that. They store is very neat and without the huge clutter some comic shops have. They don't fill a lot of space with back issues, but do have some yearly sales for such. One of the bonuses of this shop is that they have writers and artists come in for signings. I've never seen that in a comic shop that's not Midtown Comics. I am not talking no name, locale creators either. Looking at their website now, they are going to have Adam Hughes in this week. That's no slouch at all. Probably the only reason I am not a regular here is proximity. If my main shop runs out of something I wanted that wasn't on my reserves, this is my go to establishment. read more

My daughter loves comics, and Dewey's has an excellent selection for young enthusiasts. We've been to lots of stores where the child-appropriate material is basically just My Little Pony and Adventure Time, or where I feel very unwelcome browsing with a small child. Dewey's is such a wonderful change from that. The children's section at Dewey's is the best I've seen and the staff always makes us feel welcome. Even though Dewey's is *definitely* not the closest comic book shop to where we live, it's worth the drive for a place where I know my daughter will have a good experience and leave with some excellent new reading material. read more
