Note: This shop is currently located at 105 N Union Ave, Cranford, NJ 07016 (they moved across the…read morestreet from 102 years ago). I have submitted this change and their updated hours to Yelp to change this listing. I grew up going to comic shops almost weekly. I have fond memories of going to places like Forbidden Planet's original two floor Manhattan location, Jim Hanley's Universe near Herald Square and Bill & Bob's in Brooklyn. As a young Nerd these were formative experiences that I treasure. Sadly, as the digital era encroaches on publishing, comic shops are not as common as they used to be. There was a time were almost every other town or neighborhood had one, but nowadays they are few and far between. I used to go to Classic Comics in Rahway but they went downhill at top speed a long time ago (and have since closed). When I was hunting for a new shop to park my pull list Rogue Comics came up in my searches and I'm so glad it did. While I originally went to the location across the street, not much has changed with its new location. This is a medium sized comic shop, so not as big as say, the current Forbidden Planet in Manhattan but it doesn't need to be. A lot of the goods here are condensed, almost to the point of clutter at times but that just means there are plenty of treasures to be found. Roughly the layout is Transformers, blind boxes, DC, Marvel and Diamond Selects stuff towards the front. Then a wall of Marvel and DC comics with new releases in the middle. Towards the back are more obscure comics and a Star Wars section. Lining the upper shelves near the ceiling are higher end items like HasLab vehicles or Hot Toys/Sideshow style figures. At the main counter are lots of statues on display (and of course, for sale). Pete, the owner is awesome. One of the things Geeks love to do is "talk shop" about the latest goings on in the world of scifi/fantasy and comics and he is a font of knowledge. If you need something he doesn't have, he is more than happy to see if he can get it for you. I have my pull list set up at Rogue and I rarely have issues with it. Maybe once in a blue moon an issue may be missing but I just look through it, ask about it and most of the time it's in the box somewhere so no big deal. The prices at Rogue are fair given that it is a small business. For action figures, don't expect Amazon prices, but given they often have stuff you won't find in stock at say, Target, the extra few bucks are well worth you burning gas to find the figure all over town. I love Rogue Comics and recommend it to anyone interested in scifi/fantasy collectibles and comics.

A steady stream of regulars, first time shoppers, and even a dad introducing his son to comics were in and out while I was browsing. First heard of the shop through his podcast and glad I finally made it out; look forward to visiting again!

Magnus Comics - There's a couple walls full of cool toys and figurines, as well as comic books.

Since I was a kid one of my favorite spaces to visit were anywhere that let me Geek Out for a while and forget the stresses of life. Toy stores were of course one such place, but comic shops were where it was really at if you wanted to meet some like-minded pop culture addicts. Magnus Comics is located on the second floor above a pizza shop and (soon to be reopened) movie theater. In a way, this is the perfect place to put a comic shop since the other two businesses will draw plenty of people who are hanging out or into movies. When you get upstairs, the hallway is very unassuming and you'd think it maybe had old offices or something instead of a retail shop. When you open the door however, you are greeted by a beautifully organized comic shop! To the left is the counter where the owner is often stationed with comics and cards. To the right is a beautiful display case with action figures. Beyond that is a wall of comic books to the left and a ton of action figures and collectibles in the middle. The walls are covered all the way to the ceiling with a combination of new and vintage toys. There is not a lot of spare room, but that's part of the charm of this place. There's a ton of stuff, but nothing looks messy. The owner (Magnus) and his son (Xavier) are super friendly and Magnus was happy to chat and show me any of the figures in the display case. I purchased a vintage Star Wars figure and the price they asked was very fair (read: not cheap, but priced right for the age and condition). Magnus Comics is a great shop and well worth a visit, check it out!

Magnus is not the largest shop, but it's very well organized and they maximize the use of the available space. Large selection of organized short boxes is located around the shop. In the middle of the shop and higher up on the walls were the good selection of Toys, ranging from figures to playsets. The presentation of the shop is excellent including how they package loose toys for sale. In the front of the shop are the wall books and CCG/TCG cards. Some of the wall books are kept behind glass, but the staff were helpful in accessing them. The staff were the owner and his son, and they were excellent to chat with. Overall, this shop, which has only been open for a few years, might be one of the most promising in this part of the state. Its biggest challenges are the second-floor space and its size.

Literally said "this is too much, we don't buy or trade, goodbye" just because she didn't have the information about the "worker" that handles the buys and trades so she rather just be rude and rush me off the phone! Customer service is key to company's like this that rely on the customers support to keep their business and the comic book industry going, there's no place for disrespectful staff that don't want to even TRY to come to a solution or help out a fellow comic customer. I DO NO RECOMMEND GOING TO THIS SHOP FOR BUYS/TRADES/SELLS. Instead Midtown comics, new world manga, time warp comics; ALL in Jersey only 20 min for this location.

Vowing to return after our event, I brought two of my kids and one of their friends, and we all geeked out over the selection of vintage and used video games for practically every system released since the advent of the Atari 2600. The staff was super helpful in answering questions about legacy systems. There were plenty of amazing values on games from ColecoVision and original NES through the Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2 and everything in between. The coin-operated arcade games and pinball machines, with a few free options, were also a blast. Digital Press is an absolute treasure.

This I believe is the second location of the two Digital Press Videogame shops, if you're a gamer, you feel at home walking in. There are games and accessories from nearly every generation so if you're a collector and want to lay eyes on what you're looking for as opposed to online, it's a necessity to come here. There are operation arcade machines here from 80's to 90's including a few pinball machines. The counter has employees who of course are gamers and what game store wouldn't be complete without regulars who hang around and talk about games as well. As I browsed around the store I was taken back through all the generations which was a good feeling, knowing that stores like this still exist. I could go on about why DPV is a great store, but I'll go over my experience on my latest visit. I went to unload a few games I had no use for anymore and could not sell them alternatively on C-list and the like so I came here. I got a better amount than I thought both cash and store credit (store credit of course being a bit more). Again, if you're a gamer or someone looking for games from yester-year and want to avoid online, try here.
