I would avoid this place with my life. Prices are outrageous. One employee attempted to pass off a repo copy of a game as legit to me, and then to top it all off, they refused to even honor their sticker price! I attempted to buy a copy of a game that had 3 different sticker prices. One for $8.49, another for $10.99 and lastly for $12.99. This is after I came in a month earlier and the game was at $4.99. I went all 3 to the register alongside a stack of other games I'm buying and explain the issue and the cashier refused to honor the price. Neither the lowest of middle, although their were quite a number of copies with the two lower prices. Apparently the price had gone up. 4 times in a month huh? I walked out, and did not purchase any of my other items either. Why ever support such a horrible small business that even give GameStop a run for its money of horrible customer service and pricing? This place really does out price everyone locally, GameStop and eBay! Con artist, who sell repo games and trash at extortion prices! Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! Video Game trading post saved me let me tell you. I was in search for SSX games & a playstation 2 to play it on. I was THIS close to buying it on eBay before a buddy of mine recommended a retro game shop. I'm so glad that he did because this place was a lot cheaper and they said that if anything doesn't work then I can just bring it back for a full refund or exchange. Walked away with a playstation 2 & 3 SSX games to kill time during this crazy pandemic. The staff was really helpful & friendly. Purchased Wii sports as a gift. The guy let me pick which copy as they had a stack in hand. The least scratched was still a little dinged but I've had worse work for sure! When we gave the gift to our friend we cracked it open to play it and the Wii would not read it no matter what we tried. This was not an error on the console's part as our copy and other games were readable. I do not feel these guys are willing to exchange them as they uphold their policy of no returns or exchanges but they advertise that they test the product as well. I'm not a fan and I wouldn't be back. It's just a shame they are the sole retro game spot for long island and NY. read more

Great place every time I come. Bought some game boy games and worked perfectly fine! Even brought in some games to fix & they worked just as good as new thankfully. Bought a Xbox 360 after I was happy with the same person who helped me & there was a issue when I went home and tried it. Great Store, Huge Selection, and friendly staff as always but my most recent experience was much different this time around. I've only purchased but never traded anything to this store before so I went in hoping they'd give me a fair value for my trade-in but was low-balled worse than what I would have received from other small retro game stores. I only went through with it because they had the most selection of Gameboy SP for sale. In addition, they were unable to work with me on a higher priced Gameboy Micro that I would have paid extra out of pocket for. I visited this store in Levittown today looking to buy a game for GameCube. I had an employee helping me already when I asked for the price of the game. Another guy behind the counter (40s, bald) interjects and says it's 100, I thought it was a little high so I asked if he could do any better on the price. He said "I need a reason to give you a better price like you need to come up with something good" so I told him that the standardized pricing website (price charting) has it listed for 70. He started grilling me saying "well did you check eBay?" I said yes. He goes "did you check the last five listings like did you scroll down?" And I said no, I really just did basic research. Super awkward. I left without the game because he came on so rude and so strong. I honestly don't feel like he would have jumped down my throat as bad if I was a man, but that's beside the point. I went to their other location in Bayshore where I was sold the same game for 76 dollars. Levittown VGTP honestly sucks. The store is dirty and nothing is priced because they just come up with whatever they decide to charge you on the spot. I won't be shopping here again. I have never been so DISGUSTED with a store like this ever. I am a RETRO GAMER and this place is a DISGRACE!!! I have been there a few time even in their old location but this time I wanted to trade in some of my duplicates for cash. I brought in a Watermelon N64, 3 controllers and a few rare games like Paper Mario, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., and a few others. When they looked it all up they offered me 65$ for everything and I asked that's it. They guy who was checking it out started to give me an attitude and then told me "Well if you don't like it take you stuff some where else." I have never been treated so rudely but this guy just didn't care at all. After I was getting all my stuff together someone asked to get a N64 control and they told him ok its 35$ my mouth just dropped cause all they were going to give me was 65$ for all my stuff. It's a pretty good place overall with some great positives for video game fans and collectors. The first thing you'll notice is the vast selection of old school games - Nintendo, Atari, Sega, handhelds, etc, it's all there. While most of the their inventory is retro games, fans of the present generation systems will still be able to find some decent, but very few games. Considering I grew up with mostly Nintendo systems, it was great to see not only old classics, but also ones kept in mostly excellent condition. If I was more of a collector I'd probably invest more into it, but more on that in a bit. Secondly, the store space isn't too big (could be bigger), but not too small either; a decent size displays all their items well, which goes to everything from games, to special edition box sets, to controllers, and even memorabilia knick-knacks. It's a welcoming atmosphere overall where you're not harassed annoyingly by the employees. Another positive is the great and easy location, which is way easier to find than their former hidden "dungeon"-like space... which was WAY more cramped. Everything is laid out well and prices are all prominently featured on each piece of merchandise. Lastly, employees are nice enough, not overly friendly but not bothersome. Pretty chill. They're glad to help and answer questions quickly, so I have no issue there. The biggest negative I found were their prices. While I appreciate the fact that there are a good amount of very rare collectible games in stock, all displayed separately from the more common titles, even the prices of the common titles are far too high for a more price-wary customer to immediately jump into. It's understandable why a rare game would be priced alongside what internet charges are, BUT at the same time they aren't very competitive with internet prices. Yes, I understand stores need to sell games at their "worth," but why not go a little lower, in that case giving people more incentive to actually buy the games as opposed to the internet, where there is no sales tax charged? I've seen this done elsewhere, but even their normal titles (and just about everything else) are just too high. An example being 'Dark Sector' for the PS3. A first-generation game I've seen at Gamestop for about $3, whereas their price was a surprising $6. IMO very old titles which are neither rare nor popular should honestly never sell for more than $5. Even the Five Below stores know better than that. Another being a Street Fighter Ryu collectible statue that came out of the box set anniversary edition, and them asking a whopping $40, whereas the entire set sells online for about $80. Some cute game character custom magnets sold for $10, which seemed no more worth about $6 or $7 at most (personally I wouldn't even pay $7). To put it in short, I would see why less discriminate buyers would pay such prices, but those looking to get any sort of a deal should look elsewhere, even the internet. I also hear that when selling games to them, you're not exactly going to make out with anything great. It's a nice place to visit and browse if you're very much into video games, even to see their selection, but for myself, I can't agree with how much they're asking for. read more

I hope I can put into words what an amazing experience I had tonight at VGTP. I walked in and instantly stepped back in time. The guy and girl that were working there were insanely knowledgeable. I was asking about games that I haven't even thought about in 20 years, didn't even know titles or what system they were for and they knew exactly what I was talking about. I recently went into my attic and came across a box with about 8 different consoles all missing something or another... wires, controls, games ect. Bought everything I needed to complete every system. Got some Games I haven't played in years and I didn't even go over $100.00 can't wait to go back after I sort everything out. After reading all of the reviews about how good the customer service is and how nice the staff is I honestly thought it had to be exaggerated. So I went to check it out and was absolutely blown away. Everyone of the guys working there couldn't be nicer. Not only did they answer all of my questions in depth but you can tell they actually enjoy helping you. I love this place! It was originally recommended by a Game Stop employee. As an older mom of young children I can always count on the staff to educate me. Every time I've gone, they were all super friendly and eager to help me make decisions that I'm not equipped to make.
