A wonderful retro atmosphere with old media from the 1990s and 2000s playing on TVs, with quite the rare selection of games!

My husband brought a total of 38 cards today to trade in for cash. After looking at the price of 13 cards on TCG is when he asked if it was going to be cash or store credit. My husband is looking to put a down payment for a car so we need the cash. All of the cards together on TCG, the value is $450. After just looking at the 14 cards he looked at (which is a value on TCG of $130) he gave him an offer of $14 in cash. (A 1% value back) Anyone who knows yugioh would have been furious and you should be furious reading this. Not only did this guy take up my husband time, but that's so damn disrespectful. I never review places that don't sell food (feel free to check out my profile) but I just had to shout out this spot after my brother brought me here. With new games, old games, tons of rare and not-so-rare action figures, playable standup arcade games, game controllers and accessories, rare cartridge games and much more, this is a pretty outstanding spot on the Post Road. As you can see in the pics below I was greatly impressed by the selection. I don't even play video games anymore and I was absolutely blown away by the rare and hard to find stuff they had here. Honestly, I have seen a lot of this stuff on sale at game shops in NYC for much, much, much more. If you get that same dead feeling inside every time you enter a Game Stop like I do, then you will definitely want to check out this place. It was pretty packed the Saturday I was in here and everyone was just like having fun and chilling around. Also the dudes working here are really kind and really patient. Also, if you are a parent looking for a cheap gift they have awesome dollar bins for action figures here. So solid. read more

I finally made my way to Retro Games Plus and must say it was a thing of nostalgic beauty! As an ardent retro game collector (NES and SNES) It is always a relief to find an actual store to purchase games and accessories instead of trolling garage sales, goodwill stores, or (worse) Greedbay. The store is very clean and well organized and has games and consoles from Atari to last-gen (PS2, Wii, Xbox and Xbox 360). They also have a number of strategy guides and Nintendo power magazines. The selection of games was decent; not the best I have seen but its getting harder-and-harder to stock up on the rare games given that the secondary market is inflating prices. However, they had many of the common games that one would have owned if they had a system as well as the games that retro gamers should own if they are serious about starting to collect. In addition, they had boxed games and instruction booklets for sale if you are looking to be a completionist. More importantly, and this is HUGE, they will replace game batteries! As any retro gamer will tell you, many of the games that let you save contain a small watch battery affixed to the circuit board. After 20 years, many of these batteries have died and will (or may) start to leak thus destroying the the circuit board they are attached to. Replacing these batteries is a way to not only return the game to its original condition, but to preserve the game from any damage. Not many places will undertake this process and the employee I spoke with said they even warranty their service for 60 days. Needless to say, I will be bringing in many of my games for service in the future. As with many places, they also will buy used games and provide either cash or credit. I did not have any games to sell so I cannot comment on if the prices are fair or not. Again, as a collector I know how much I would be willing to pay for games as well as how much I would be willing to receive in order to part for a game. With that said, the prices on the common games and some of the rare games they had in stock was comparable to what I would pay. Some may quibble and say you could find cheaper at a yard sale or at Goodwill but, again, given that many people are hitting up Google before selling "old" stuff it is getting harder to get a super cheap price on used games (the days of the $20 Earthbound are LONG GONE!) The mark up is not exorbitant and is comparable to other places I have been to that sell retro games. If you are looking to relive the days of your youth or just looking to begin collecting, be sure to his this place up. You will not be disappointed. read more

Bought a few Sega games there and they were really helpful and friendly. They even helped me hide some things from my kids so I could surprise them later. When I got home, I noticed the NHL 95 case was missing the cartridge and I called them immediately. They put it in the mail on Monday and shipped it to Massachusetts without an issue. They're pretty legit and it's a cool store to visit. read more

Cool staff, pretty awesome import games are good priced, They charge way to much for boxed consoles, But I can't complain, The only thing not correctly priced would be some of the high end retro, if it's going to be a sealed game I'm buying get it graded. Because they can seal Games if they want. read more

This store is absolutely flawless. I was down on my luck when it came to a repair of a video game system, not only did they help me get it repaired, but they would follow up with me about the repairs. My system now works perfectly fine today. If I ever need anything video game related I always come to this specific location. The people who work there are unbelievably professional. They know the ins and outs of video games video game accessories and all that that entails. They are warm and friendly to the customers. Going to retro games plus, has become a weekly activity for myself. This is one of those small businesses that will go above and beyond to help you. I love coming here to buy old used games. And sometimes you find gems! I also like that they buy/sell things like figures and other various collectibles. Sometimes I even find rare anime figures. They're not terribly expensive either. The staff is also very knowledgeable about video games and other geek stuff and they're nice. I love this place and try and stop here anytime I'm in town! You get such good deals, lots of cheap used stuff, and hard to find stuff. From systems to games to movies and etc. I've bought a ton of stuff here on a bargain in my eyes. Friendly staff, too. Great store for finding classic games, equipment and consoles. However, in keeping with The retro feel of funcoland expect to get paid 1/3 of what they will sell your games, and equipment. You're better off holding onto them. Aside from that, place is great. read more

If you have ever went through even a brief phase in your lifetime that involved finding enjoyment from the playing of video games, you must visit this shop. Virtually every video game system ever sold to the American public is represented here all the way back to Atari, Intellivision, and Colecovision. Selection is very good considering the games sold here have been out of print for years/decades. Prices are very fair and on par with what you would pay for same items on eBay but without waiting by your mailbox for a week or dealing with receiving broken/misrepresented stuff. I have vowed that if I ever win the lottery I'm cleaning this place out. read more

I was excited to finally see a retro gaming store near the Hartford area. I went a couple of times to their new location on Berlin Turnpike, and bought a few items, including some legos for my kids. On my third visit there I went ready to buy a GBA handheld system. They had 3 versions of this system. There were three sales people behind the counter, one customer checking out, and two other people besides my self browsing in the store. I asked the sales person for help, and if he could pull out the GBA system from behind the glass case for me to see. The first one he showed me was in bad shape so I asked to see another, the second one was not in great of shape either so I asked to see a third when the sales guy stated "This will be the last one I'll show you since I have other things to do". It really took me by surprise, and I told the guy how that was poor customer service in his part to say such thing since I was a paying customer looking to buy one of his products. He started backtracking once I called him out on it, but by then I was so upset at such poor treatment that I just walked away. The store was not busy, there were two other staff members standing around behind the counter, and I did not think I was asking for much, after all this is a used video game store, and all I wanted to do was to pick the best condition GBA system they had. I left feeling almost discriminated against as if my time was not valiable enough for him...I never go out of my way to write reviews, but this situation compelled me too. I hope this staff member gets proper traning on good customer service. read more

When this place first opened about 2 years ago, it was great. The staff were friendly and they stocked a large amount of games for a large amount of systems at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, this store has really gone downhill. The last time I was there which was last week, I walked in, looked around and was interested in 2 games in the display case. There was no one on the floor and no one in the store, so I called to the back. There were two guys hanging out back there socializing. Not a big deal. The store wasn't busy anyway. The big deal was that they said they'd be with me in a few minutes. Ten minutes later, they were still socializing, so I walked out. It really sucks that this place has gone so far downhill since there aren't many game stores in the area not named Gamestop. I don't think I'll be wasting my time hitting this place anymore. read more
