I brought my cards to the shop and spent nearly an hour having them evaluated, only to be offered an extremely low amount. I understand that shops need to make money and cover their overhead, but the offer wasn't even close to reasonable. I sent the same cards to an online buylist service, where they scanned and evaluated them through their system and came back with an offer five times higher than what the shop quoted. At that point the difference stops being about business margins and simply bordering on robbery. read more

Went there with my son, we were driving and in the area, he saw the place so we stopped. The guy behind the counter, a heavyset young guy was almost dismissive, which turned me off right away, he seemed a little annoyed that we came. About 20 guys were sitting at tables in the back doing something. My son bought a few things, but had some questions that were met with an eye roll, which is rude and you are an adult, he is a child.....you should know better! Word to the owners, have your employees be nice, people with these green pieces of paper come in and will trade you for your goods more often if you do so. read more

I recently came into about 300-400 Bronze Age comics (Marvel & DC) from a relative who passed and reached out to the Comic Book Depot to see if they could value them and offer me something after I categorized and listed everything out. After speaking with a gentleman on the phone last week, he asked politely if I could come in the following week on a week day, as they were just too busy on the weekends - understandably. When I arrived with a box in hand and the list on the date and time that we discussed, I was stared at like I had 8 heads and was told loudly "I'm not buying anything this week." I never understand how businesses can be so rude. I'm semi new to the area and was looking for a comic store to be able to take my kids to, since they're starting to get into super heroes, etc., but after this experience I won't be stepping foot in Comic Book Depot (or suggesting it to friends and family). The owner Mikey isn't really a nice guy. They don't really like new players and frankly the place smells. When you call the store, if they ever decided to pick up, they are always rude and never really helpful. Most of the stuff they sell is way cheaper at the local bodega or tcgplayer which is a real disappointment as you'd expect a LGS to have better prices then some corner store. read more

My wife went into this dump to TRY and buy me a Fathers Day gift. With her not knowing anything about comics, I told her to simply ask the guys there for any "Silver Age Marvels," told her to pick one, and it would be a nice surprise what ever she came home with...easy right? She walks in and ( after being ignored for a minute or so ) asks if they have any "Silver Age Marvels?" This is comic book store right? This shouldn't be too complicated of a question. Anyway, these 2 fat slobs behind the counter ( think Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons times 2 ) manage to blurt out "...uhhhh, theres some around here somewhere..." and go back to ignoring her. Heres the thing, they are kept in the f--king glass case - DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF WHERE THEY ARE STANDING! How lazy ( or stupid ) do you have to be??? So instead of making an easy $100-200 sale, she walked out like F this place! I used to stop in there from time to time and pick up some books, but never again. Also, notice all of their "5 Star" reviews are clearly planted by them - most one line or less like "great store" or "awesome selection." read more

It was a very organized shop. They had Pokémon elite booster boxes. They had cards up to 100 dollars. Something I would've liked to know before going is that they didn't do Pokémon until 6pm on week days. They do Pokémon on weekends all day. They didn't want any of my Pokémon even tho I had a card that was 30 dollars on TCG player. It was kinda weird to me because they had cards for 5 dollars in the glass case and didn't want my 30 dollar card. read more

Great Magic selection, but the owner is a complete jerk and the employees seem stuck up. No matter how polite I try to be, they seem rude and annoyed that customers walk in and ask them questions. If you don't want to deal with the public, don't own a retail business. read more

On Sunday we went out in search of card sleeves for our sons new Pokémon cards (he's 5 and just starting to get interested in the game). We originally went over to Doc D's Trading Cards, not realizing he sold mainly sports cards. He directed us to The Comic Book Depot, which we thought was really nice as it was clear we weren't sure what exactly we were looking for and he had plenty of sleeves he could have easily just sold us without a second thought. We went to comic book Depot and it was packed. Since we didn't plan on going there, we didn't realize an event was going on and we walked in right about 20 minutes before a Pokémon Event was beginning so all of the employees were very busy getting everyone checked in and set up. Despite that we only waited about 5 minutes before we were assisted, and the guys who helped us were absolutely great. They sell a bunch of single cards for $1 or 5 cards for $4, and then have some more in a display. They were great at helping out a little very excited boy work on building his deck. We'll definitely be going back read more

Great local comic book shop... loaded with current, back issue, graphic novels and trade paperbacks as well as a ton of gaming (Pokémon, Magic etc...) supplies and other collectibles. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and discounts are available. A+ read more

My 15 year old has been playing Magic The Gathering here for many years. The people who hang out here seem to know each other well and can spend hours in tournaments. Small but no where else like it in Nassau County that we know of. read more

A friend who trades Magic cards was in town, so he and I went on a whirlwind tour of local game and comic shops to do some business. One of the players over at Empire Gaming (in Farmingdale) recommended Comic Book Depot, so we went to check it out. The store is mostly comics and Magic, but they did have one case of HeroClix for trade, plus a small set of games (some Euro, some D&D themed). There were 4 or 5 tables in the back for playing. Overall it was a small, but well-organized shop. You probably won't get a chance to park right in front of the store, but there's a small parking lot just around the corner. They had a good selection for trading, but were tighter on the money side than some other places in the area. However, throughout the whole trade the employee was nice, helpful, and held conversation with both me (the girl on the side) and my friend who was actually trading. I asked about other game store options in the area and he offered up a couple other stores that might have more of what I was looking for in terms of games, which I thought was nice. read more

So I left and I will go to a comic store and spend my money there just very unfortunate considering all the other reviews. Place has gone down hill over the years. Last few experiences there have been poor at best. At the end of the day it's a business that doesn't care about its patrons. Tired of getting the short end of the stick every time I play in an event there. Any time someone leaves a negative review the business owner begs them to take it down and offers them compensation that they should have received in the first place. This place is cute and always has the trades I'm looking for. The staff is also super nice and know a great deal about comics. They are approachable and are willing to help you find what you want and if on the off chance it's not available, happy to order it online. Has a good 50% off section which is good for trying out a new run or character you're not sure of. Go here instead of barnes and nobles for your trades, it's more friendly and personal. Nice little store. Came here on the recommendation of a friend. Not only do they carry current comics but they sell plenty of MTG cards. I used to play and decided to get back into playing. They have plenty of tables to play on. Adam, the employee there that night, was real helpful in helping me pick a preconstructed commander deck that suited my play style. read more

I happened to be working in the area on a Wednesday so I called ahead of time to have them pull a couple books for me. When I showed up later in the night, the associate had never pulled them for me and was already sold out of a couple of the titles. Both associates I spoke to in the store had incredibly poor attitudes, one of which seemed to take exception to me asking him for a bag after purchasing the comics, and they were speaking extremely inappropriately to the younger kids playing cards in the back. THIS IS NO "COMIC BOOK DEPOT". I saw maybe a couple of long boxes and a bookshelf of TPB's, as well as a bunch of unorganized "new releases". However, it was the poor staff alone which assures that I will never return to this establishment again. Owner should be ashamed. read more

I can't remember the last time I've had such an unpleasant experience in a retail environment in a long time. first of all, the manager, if that's you would call him, is simply one of the rudest people I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. he is a portly man, with a scraggly beard and an attitude that says "I hate being here and I hate you for bugging me." I play magic the gathering, and have attended tournaments, pre-releases, and other events there in the past, and it's always the same. as a judge he actually yelled at me for calling him over for a ruling(that's his job), and as a customer he has always given me an attitude whether I'm buying sleeves or a booster box. all my friends have stopped going there for a long time. I always see the same people in there(nice people) but it's a bad sign bc a good shop always has fresh faces as well as old faces. to be fair, they do have a nice overall selection of products, though they are overpriced as compared to other shops in the area. the owner is friendly as well, but I can't give them points for that since they continue to employ the aforementioned manager. AVOID this spot unless you are desperate and go to one of the other store in the area( "game Master games" and "a song of fire and dice" are far better). read more
