Let me get this quickly out of the way. I do not read comic books nor am I a collector. I came here because I met a participant in their charitable cause the prior day and wanted to support the effort. This store is about one mile from my house and I had never been here before, even though they have been here over 20 years. This was their annual charitable event. I was greeted the door by Storm Troopers and Darth Vader. It was obvious that they have the right formula here. The small shop is PACKED with comic books and memorabilia. This is clearly the home base for comic book collectors and aficionados. I was here to see one of the artists drawing and support their charitable cause. I always find it amazing to watch an artist go from pen-paint-pencil to paper. Amazing talent. I had the opportunity to meet a cmic book author. We had an amazing conversation that was capped off by determining we went to elementary school together in Queens. It's always a small world. The owner is a wonderful man who is dedicated to his passion and charity work. I am looking forward to next years show and will look to possibly partner with them in my own charitable events. I recently got back into reading comics about 6 years ago when a teacher of mine handed me a copy of Watchmen. The last comic books I read had been stolen from my brother and ultimately taken away from me as it wasn't a 'girly thing.' Well, now I am an adult and I have fallen into full immersion of this wonderful, engaging culture. What I love about Grasshopper is the staff is so patient with me. I ask a lot of questions about comics and I can also answer a lot too. They have never once judged me for not knowing something. I recently stocked up on Ed Brubaker's Captain America, on Free Comic Book Day no less, and one of the men took his time getting me all the volumes and in order. They also had issues I was missing from The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and I was able to complete the stack. They've got a great mom and pop shop feel and I love that you have to turn the knob to open their door and close it behind you. read more

I come here on weekends when I haven't gone to my usual spot on the weekdays. The owner is friendly and always helpful. They have a pretty good selection here. Sometimes there are events held at the comic book store. I came by once and there were star wars cosplayers. Pretty cool. I know there are board game and card game events held at the store. Since it's not a huge store, it's easier to find what you're looking for. I do recommend coming here for comics or gifts. read more

This is one of the more interesting comic shops you may walk into, and not in a bad way. As with any comic shop, the true test of quality is the guy behind the counter. At Grasshopper's, that guy is more often than not the owner. He just so happens to be a personable guy, one who is willing to stand there with you and give an honest review of every single issue on the stands if you ask, and if he has read it. He is an interesting character with a wealth of knowledge about comics legends and their ties to Nassau County. He just so happens to be a published author and you can, of course, purchase a copy of his book from right there at the counter. The only problem I ever have is that he has a friend who likes to chat. And he himself likes to chat. And if you stop by after work on a weekday, and the two of them are having a chat at the register, you are going to wait until they are done chatting before your books are going to be rung out. If you like to chat yourself, then you might not mind. If you were in a hurry, then you probably would not ask the guy for his opinion on every issue, and might not have a problem. As a matter of fact, Grasshopper's would easily have a five-star rating if they offered a better subscription service. Ten books a month is too high a minimum, and coupled with a 0% discount it is not exactly a great bargain. But you get what you pay for, and Grasshopper's offers great service and a comfortable setting for all types of comic book fans. read more

This is a great local comic book store. Usually when you go into a comic book store as a new customer the owners /workers will ignore you but at the same time watch you very carefully at the corner of their eye with distrust. This wasn't the case for me. I was able to engage into conversation with the owner and he was very friendly. Coming back into reading comics for over 9 years this was a great welcome back as he told me everything I missed and what I have to look forward to. 5 weeks after first visiting Grasshopper's I have been going there every wed. to pick up the newest comics weekly. I have had a pull list at this shop for nearly 5 years now. The shop has always went out of their way to get the books I request and never given me any problem in doing so. They also have a great on hand for trades and decent back issue collection. The staff is always knowledgeable and has never seemed overly annoyed when I ask too many questions or make odd requests. On top of that they have some great community events that put them over the top. If you are looking for a solid comic shop on long island you don't have to look any further. read more

This is actually a front for a psycho-health clinic. The main therapist's name is John and you can always see him talking with patients throughout the day. I came in the other day to pick up some stuff and the entire time I'm browsing the shop, this guy is explaining his entire last night to John in great detail about how drunk he was followed by the fascinating amount of vomit he painted the sidewalk with. John seems to be very good at what he does. He sometimes even takes on 2-3 patients at the same time. It's a little annoying when you want to checkout and leave while he's having a therapy session but the conversations are often interesting so, whatever. Oh and there's also comics, card games and tabletop stuff too. read more

They have a ton of Trades which is good. some new stuff. no back issues. prices are not competitive at all. the one major factor for me, which is the killer, is that I have been there maybe 6 or 7 times over the years, and have always felt unwelcome. I always seem to forget that part. It is like asking a question is this huge inconvenience. i dunno, i might wander back in again but there's enough friendlier competition in the area I probably won't put myself through that again. read more

I used to come here all the time as a kid. This place has everything a kid, or comic book/gaming nerd would ever need. The staff is friendly and helpful so feel free to ask for help. When I went here, they used to organize gaming events for all different miniature games as well as card playing games, but not sure if that still goes on. wow! who are these people writing these reviews??? this comic shop doesn't hold up to anything good. they hardly have any back issues available. and with the new stock... they must by 10 copies of each book. so, many times I have been there they are sold out of recent books. And the guys that work there, damn.. he doesn't want to be bothered by anyone. I really like this store. The guy who works there is super friendly and helpful, they have a ton of issues out and even more in storage (just ask if you're looking for something specific), and everything is clean with plenty of natural light. It's a nice place to go and spend an afternoon thumbing through long boxes, finding random gems. This store is the best comic store I've come across in Long Island. They have a great selection of back issues and thousands of back issues downstairs. If you have particular books you're looking for, they're great at going downstairs into their vast collection and finding it. They often surprise me and sometimes surprise themselves by going downstairs and finding something rare. They also have a good selection of comic sets at relatively low prices. I would wish the owners would haggle more, but other than that, every employee I've met has been super helpful. I'm not a board gamer but if you are, this appears to be the place for you. I love this comic book store! The selection is pretty good, I've seen bigger stores but they have everything that I usually look for. They also have a decent selection of board games and card games as well as some warhammer stuff. I think they could have more toys, trinkets, action figures, t shirts, etc. Not that I should buy more crap like that to clutter my shelves, but I do like looking at them. I like the location as well, parking can be tricky, but there's plenty on the side streets. Oh, and the best part is the alien prop on the ceiling in the back. read more

Went there today with my seven year old. He was stunned at all the books and comics they had for kids his age. He ended up choosing five books and immediately started to read one as soon as we got into the car. I've shopped here a few times and love this place.
