JC Comics is located in a complex with a pawn ship, martial arts training center, and Italian restaurant. This is not the largest comic shop, but they make the most of the space available. Good selection of longboxes in easy to pull out drawers, which was unique. Selection of graphic novels, collectables, and Pop Vinyl was also good. Limited selection of wallbooks. Large selection of new pull comic books, one of the best in the area. JC Comics is better than your average New Jersey comic shop stock wise. Staff member was helpful when you needed it. I can understand why some people might miss this shop, as you have to deal with a busy highway to access the complex. JC Comics should not be missed and is a solid shop. read more

Went here during the afternoon. They have a bunch of single issue comics to look at. Also some other comic volumes lining some of the shelves they have. I found out they also sell cards here as well when I walked in. The staff working there was polite and quiet. I'd say go here if you want to read some issues or volumes, or get some cards for your collection. read more

When I was in Jersey in this area on business I went in to this store and saw a collectible figure for my son. Before buying it I asked a male employee if it was brand new and I was told assuredly and in kind of an uppity fashion (like how dare I ask a question about a product that this store was selling) that it was still sealed and never opened/used. So I purchased it. Flash ahead to when I got home and gave my son the figure and he noticed right away through the plastic packaging before even opening it that it was missing its weapon accessory and looked like in had been already displayed/played with but I had him open it up just to be sure and guess what...he was correct. There was even dust on the figure....seriously! I can't go back because I'm from out of state. So based on this deception,rudeness and a disappointed kid this is the review JC Comics has fully earned. Like my son said to me.... ''So not cool''. read more

Manger is very rude and off putting. Whenever you ask him a question he seems very angry and annoyed. If you're just getting into the world of comics I don't recommend going there unless you're whiling to tolerate a rude manger. read more

I called JC Comics to inquire about potential selling a few of my trading cards and to get a bit more information about the process and I was greeted by a rude store rep. Our short phone conversation was not pleasant or helpful in any way. I'm not sure if I was speaking to the owner or just an employee but it felt like he just wanted to brush my questions off and just get me off the phone. I've been to JC Comics quite a few times over the years, and I REALLY want to like it... Its a big store, with a decent statue, toy and back issues selection... But every time I've been in there, I felt the guy behind the counter has complete contempt for his geek customer base and I've seen him be rude to quite a few people who didnt deserve it... Its a family business and the rest of them are very pleasant people, but when he's there, I vow not to go back...But always give them another chance and end up regretting it. Today I had some free time, and went there after an appointment to browse Flash back issues from the 1970s... It was a Tuesday which is important to the story... I walked in the door and was ignored by all the staff there... I walked to where the back issues were, and all the new weeks comics were laid out on top of the back issues, so I couldnt get near em...Ok, fine maybe it was a bad day... Someone else walked in looking for back issues and asked, and the counter guy jumped all over him going "you know you shouldnt come in on Tuesdays looking for back issues bro!" In that case, maybe I'll just find another store that does their new comic process outside of business hours... Close the store on Tuesdays if you dont want to stay after hours... I mentioned this to a few friends on Facebook, and heard a LOT of similar annoyances at the store... So its not a one-time deal... I've also heard from female friends that the same guy either ogles them or treats them condescendingly... If the guy hates his comic customers so much, maybe he's in the wrong business - I found at least 10 friends who won't go in there anymore because of him... Again, the rest of the family have been pleasant when he's not there... But he's always there when i go in anymore... Didnt post a bad review before because I would go back for back issue selection, but I just had enough and figured this review would stop me from giving them more chances to get mad.... read more

Changing this review to one star after my most recent visit. I was super excited to go back there after the last few times. I've spent probably about $800 on back issues here over the past 6 months here so I'm not just someone who walked in with no intention to buy. In fact, I got a silver surfer 4 off of the wall here in the Fall and had a good interaction with the person I am assuming is the owner. However, on a recent visit, I got scolded by the same guy because he said I didn't push the back issue drawers all the way in. Really odd interaction. I work in retail myself and I understand it's annoying to see people making a mess. This was not the case as literally the drawer needed to be pushed in about a half an inch. The guy seemed aggravated because I told him I didn't need help. I watched him go over to the bins after I was done to check them. Dude, you lost out on $400 bucks because I was going to buy two things off of your wall. Now I'll never come back and I'll make my way up to Zapp Comics in Wayne instead. Don't scold your customers over nonsense. You work in retail and sometimes you have to suck it up and let people touch things. read more

The store is clean, bright, and not restrictive at all despite its small-ish size. It's organized very well with figurines and toys and book stands placed throughout, as well as comic books all along one wall and older comics in the middle. I have been to this shop a couple times over the years. The first couple of times weren't very comfortable (I feel like every comic shop has that one guy behind the counter that isn't always friendly). But I went back recently for Free Comic Book Day and was pleasantly surprised! When I walked in I was greeted by a nice older woman (I'm guessing she's the owner of the store) who was very friendly with me and led me to the correct section. The people working there were very nice and conversational with my little brother. The shop was clean and had decent space to walk around. I'm not a comic book aficionado but it seems like they had a pretty good selection of books. The people working seemed very friendly to regulars and newcomers alike. They get four stars because they are one of the few comic book shops in the area and I've been going back on and off since the fifth grade. If you are in the area I would gladly recommend you stop here and support your local comic book shop! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand they are a very bright and well organized. They have a nice collection too. Their new issue collection is really good. They have an awesome statute collection (awesome is the correct word, you will likely be in awe). However, this store also has it's downside. Their trade paperback collection is alright, but nothing special. The statue collection, while awesome is somewhat high off the ground so you can't see the item really well and have to ask about pricing (I dislike that). All of that would be nitpicking and could easily be overlooked if not for 1 thing: the service. When I was there the guy working the counter was nothing short of rude, I mean really rude. I don't know what the hell his problem is or why he feels the need to talk down to people, but it really brings and otherwise good place down. I'm a 31 year old man with a doctoral degree and he talked to me like I was a 10 year old ne'er-do-well. Out of the comic book shops in my area, this is the one I go to last. It really comes down to one thing and that's customer service. The shop is a family run business. The mother and father owners who are there are great people. They are very courteous and will chat you up a bit. The rest of the staff doesn't really say boo to you unless you are a regular or know them. I took one of my friends there and he got yelled at to make sure he puts their back issues in the right order. The store itself is actually very remarkable. They have a nice layout that's not cluttered. If you can get past some of the staff attitude, this is probably the best shop in the area to get back issues from. They may be on the tad expensive side, but there's a good chance they'll have what you are looking for. Some of the times I've gone, I've seen them buying some older silver and golden age issues to sell. They have a good flux of back issues to keep the store going. They have a pretty good selection of trade paperbacks and graphic novels too. They have decent sized toy selection as well. It's definitely not their primary focus, but you can probably get any new releases from say DC Direct. I really would have rated this store a 4 or 5 star if it wasn't for some of the workers. If the mother and father team were there all the time, this place would be excellent. read more

Comic stock is pretty good. Lots of variety and def a solid back issue section. Also lots of toys and collectibles. They lose 2 stars for the complete unprofessionalism of the manager. This guy is so nasty and appears annoyed if you ask a basic question regarding an item. Also, the last time i was there he berated an employee, cursing and insulting him just flat out embarrassing this poor kid, for not working when I guy was helping a customer find back issues: you know his job. I always thought it was just my perception of the store but it seems as though the reviews speak for themselves. I've been visiting JC Comics every so often for the better part of 20 years now and very rarely was great customer service provided. I think the mother of the family who owns the store has been the nicest but it still felt forced. I'm a 20 year customer from their original location in Plainfield. The Rte 22 location is much easier to get to and park. I love the place and the family who runs it. All the JC staff is excellent, especially Paul - who is knowledgable, friendly and knows where everything is. Like any family they are stretched so some of the reviews here were probably on a day after a big show like NYCC, or a convention. They work as a team, and after a big weekend, you may find the store quiet. It's nothing personal - they are just working their asses off in the retail market. Anyone who has ever worked behind a counter knows what I mean - try it and then talk about how you 'ought' to be. The layout of the store is outstanding - Lot's a merchandise but not on top of you - No feeling like it's cluttered. The store flows from area to area and it allows you to browse and find a few gems. The pull box orders are second to none - they learn what you like, and make suggestions about issues you may enjoy that maybe would not have tried. Visit JC Comics - they are a family owned business in an industry that has it's ups and downs - And it's rare to survive in today's online and cut throat price world. It's also a rare thing to have a comic book store anymore - and I for one support it and love going there for the adventure. read more

Guy behind counter needed to chill out. I'm not their bread and butter customer who buys comics on a regular basis, but I always like to contribute to the local guys in this dying form of retail. Nice store in a dying industry. They had several back issues I was looking for. Good layout. $2.00 graphic novel bin was the highlight. Otherwise, I'd buy the regularly priced graphic novels off of Amazon or E-bay. Much better prices; but, hey, I understand you got to make a profit. Can't speak for the service. I usually like to be left alone when I'm browsing, but the guy there was helpful, if not a bit too loud for me. Only real complaint is the location. I was coming from Edison, and my GPS took me through the heart of Plainfield, which, if you know anything, is not a very safe area to drive through. JC is right on 22, which is fine, but you may want to plan your route better before attempting a visit. read more

Simply the best comic shop around, and I should know. I've been going there for years. It's the cleanest, nicest shop with the best selection and the staff is nice. They have everything - comics, statues, toys, cards, and more. My head is still spinning from looking all over, floor to ceiling. And they displayed all this awesome stuff in a clean bright environment without any of the clutter. They had all the books and trades I wanted. I used to be big into comics when I was kid, especially Amazing Spider-Man. As a Christmas gift my wife decided to rekindle my love with my cherished childhood (and adult) hero by getting me the last issue of the Amazing Spider-Man comic series to ever be printed, #700. Now, she knows VERY little about comics in general but found J C Comics in N. Plainfield. She went there and I'm sure she talked their ears off but they helped her out. They were very kind and respectful towards her as she went to their store not knowing what to expect and to me, that means a LOT. You can always judge the character of a person by how they treat others and they were very nice. I have absolutely NO CLUE what these other reviewers are referencing, but when I went there they were always helpful. You don't have to be shy but just go up and ask them anything. I showed the young gentleman there a picture of the new Star Wars series from Dark Horse Comics that I was looking for on my phone and he immediately knew what I was seeking. Unfortunately, they were sold out but the fact that he knew the comic, read the comic, and said they're getting the second printing was impressive. Since finding out about J C Comics at Christmas, I have stopped by every Thursday and one Sunday, purchased two Spider Man statues, bought at least 6 Amazing Spider Man comics from the Black Suite years, all of the #700 variant covers of ASM but one, Spawn #227, several Dr. Who comics for the wife, and 4 Star Wars comics. Why bother spending all this money at a comic book store when there's Ebay or Amazon? Because they're respectful, the store is CLEAN, there's a HUGE selection, the comics are in great shape, and the atmosphere is great. I found my new happy place at J C Comics. read more

The parents are awesome in every way, but I do agree with Thomas W & Alexander C. on the 2 sons. The older son is very anti-social, while the younger son has his bi-polar moments. They have quite a decent collection for your back issue needs, but they are horrible when it comes to asking them to look for an issue on your want list. If the parents ran the store, & the 2 sons had nothing to do with the store (I think it's time for a career change for those 2), I can see this store being one of the best Comic Stores in NJ. Also, they have to stop with the false advertising saying that they buy comics, yet a customer brings in their collection, & gets turned down. Just to save the parents from a potential false-advertisement suite, J.C. Comics only buy Golden & Silver age comic collections. I love JC Comics for their massive amount of trade paperbacks ! I originally started going to to JC for their toys for which they have an amazing amount ! Toys from almost every genre, I also like visiting JC's stand every year at NYC Comic Con! But lately I have been collecting back trade paper backs and they have a ton in stock and most every employee is professional, knowledgeable and courteous ! I saw another review say " don't go in on a Tuesday for back issues" but I call BS I went in on Tuesday and they moved the new comics for me to get to their large selection of back issues! I suppose its all about asking, not assuming people can read minds ! If you want anything comic related from a large Statue collection, to current to back to trades to toys JC is the place to go! My only complaint is I wish they were closer ! And that's obviously not their issue! I wish there was a JC Comics closer to West Orange! I used to go to this place awhile back and i didn't like it. I mean they have a wide range of comics to select from but besides that what i really didn't like about was the staff. They just weren't friendly or showed any bit of interest in trying to help new customers. They seemed very judge mental and would yell at you for putting the comic book in the wrong shelf. If you asked for there help they would probably just ignore you and only help their regulars. The owner of the place though is the nicest and friendliest person there who can help you out with anything but the rest of the staff just don't seem like they enjoy helping or talking to people in general. They're also very suspicious of people at the place stealing stuff so if you go there don't stay there for too long trying to choose a comic. They have a lot of toys and statues which are very expensive for a really small comic shop but otherwise its a nice shop, now all they need is a better staff and store would be better. read more
