I really love this place... I would have Yelp'd it sooner if I had thought about it. The staff is always friendly and they have a great selection. There is only one other comic shop in the area I use. When Archie Vs. Predator came out a few years ago this place held each issue for me so I wouldn't drive here for nothing. Don't judge, my old art teacher was the one of the artists for the series! If you're in the area and love comics drop in, they're always doing sales on random items and they get reorders of some of the more popular series. read more

Comic Fortress - Comic Books Near Me - Somerville, New Jersey

I went to the store a week ago with my son asking about the new Fortnite and DC comic. The girl in the store told me it would be released on Tuesday April 20th and to come at 11 to get a copy. I was concerned about not getting a copy and she assured me that would get one. So here we are on the 20th, here at 10:45. The store opens and it's me and 3 other people. The same girl from a week ago informs us that they are saving the only copy's they were giving and saving it for there "regular " customers. Not for the people who were 15-30 minutes early. Also if that is the case tell me a week ago so I can go else where. In the end she offers us to write down my name and number and they call us whenever they get more in. And she didn't know when that would be. Definitely do not recommend this place. read more

I've visited the Comic Fortress twice so far. The first time was back in the autumn of 2019. I can't recall the name of the woman working at the time, but my friend Ali and I had a great conversation with her about introducing kids to comics and how to keep up with all the event stories nowadays. I visited again on 25 September 2020 and had another great conversation with a staff member about Kevin Smith's oeuvre. Got a bunch of comics I'd been meaning to read as well as a trade paperback. The interior is open enough to allow for socially-distant browsing in these difficult times so it was great to browse a comic shop again for the first time since all of this began. I will definitely visit again when I'm next in central NJ. read more

I have enjoyed every trip to Comic Fortress since becoming aware of the store 7 years ago. New books, figures, statues (lots of statues...), toys, t-shirts, tpbs/graphic novels (lots and lots of these!) and just about anything a comic book and pop culture fan could ask for. So why not a 5-star review? Back issues. My main reason for going to LCSs is back issues. While Comic Fortress has some nifty $2 boxes, some decent 1/2-off back issues, by-and-large every other comic store in the 50 mile radius features more back issues, some much better priced. However, I have a true soft spot in my heart for CF and Somerville, NJ. While I don't shop for comics as often as I'd like, my first go-to, especially for new books and tpbs is Comic Fortress. read more

This is a spacious and cool comic book store located in a beautiful downtown setting. Ample street parking and parking lots everywhere (Sunday is free parking). There is a lot of room to walk around this store. There are figures and shirts and tons of books and comics. read more

I would really like to give this place a higher review, but after my latest experience, I just can't. This place is fantastic, except for their special ordering procedure. It's been annoying to say the least. And, since they can only carry so many issues at a time, there will be times when special orders are needed. Two weeks ago I had come into the store looking for two specific issues of a comic that I wanted to purchase as a Christmas gift. The store was out of stock of the first two issues, but had 3 & 4 in stock. So I had asked if it was possible to special order the first two, and purchase the third and fourth. No problem they said. Should take one to two weeks. That right there was a little panic inducing, as it cut a little too close to the holidays for me, but I wanted to support local business, so I said place the order. The clerk took my name and number and that was it. I wait. A week goes by. I'm local, so I stop in to check on the status. No update. Two weeks go by now. I stop in again, and ask what the deal is. The clerk goes to the owner in the back and I hear some muttering. She comes back out and says "Yeah its not going to be in until after Christmas. The holiday screw up our ordering. Sorry." I had to bite my tongue. None of this could've been said when I originally placed my order? Now I'm stuck with two issues I cant use. What's even worse is that the owner couldn't have even bothered to come out and try to diffuse the problem. I was left with a shoulder shrug. Thanks. Please fix your special ordering process, because you are going to lose a ton of customers to Amazon for this reason. You've already lost one here. read more

Nice selection of figures and statues. There Hot Toys and one:12 figures selection in particular is great. Sadly it's pricey. The service is good and the staff pleasant so worth the visit. Sometimes you can find a bargain, especially in the crack in their clearance section. But overall be prepared to spend. read more

This is one of the best comic shops in New Jersey. Rick, the owner is extremely nice and welcoming to the store. I'm literally there every week. Obviously every Wednesday they have new comics. just about every single thing that comes out that week you can find here, if you can't find something or they sold out just let one of the helpful employees know and they have no problem getting your book to you in a week or two. If you like back issues or missing an issue from a previous week chances are they have it in there huge back issue bin! Also comic fortress have an amazingly huge collection of trade paper backs and hardcover trades for an awesome price (and usually have awesome sales in sections of the bookshelf too) Do you like statues or action figures? Well they also have a huge section for those too they have everything from vintage collectable action figures too brand new stuff. Again with fair prices. The brightly lit stores also shows off the details of every bust and statue they have have shelved located in the middle of the store. Did I forget to mention they also have an an awesome collection of key issues for sale too as soon as you walk in the store? Not only that if you need a key issue just ask most likely they can find it for you! Come too Somerville and enjoy this awesome store I guarantee you'll come back again. read more

Top notch comic shop! This place is roomy and has plenty of merchandise for all interests. I go to most all of the great comic shops of NJ and NYC, and this is one of the nicest shops I have ever seen. Nicely organized new comic shelves, bookcases full of TPBs and there is even a nice bargain shelf and box area for half priced trades and $2 comics. Plus tons of toys, shirts....you name it. Highly recommended for the discriminating comic shopper! The Count gives this place 4 Judo Chops as a rating. Comic Fortress would get a five if they had some better dollar bins. read more

I have been a customer here for several years and it is a phenomenal store! It's clean and organized, well lit, and well stocked. The selection of new titles is huge and the bookshelf of trade paperbacks and hardcovers is enormous. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, if they don't have something in stock, they will order it if they can. And if they don't know something, they will look it up and find out. There are Magic the Gathering cards, tons of toys, comic storage supplies and lots more. Highly recommend making it your regular comic shop! read more

I really like comic fortress as there is just nothing to not like. The space is bright, clean and well organized. They have some high value issues behind the counter, I'd say as good as any of their local competitors. Their new issues are normal - nothing missing (all you can ask for). Where they really shine though us in 3 areas: Trade paperbacks, statues and customer service. Trade paperback collection is really quite large and comprehensive. They have a really nice collection of comic statues - and the prices aren't inflated. Most of all the staff and owner are excellent. Really friendly, regular guys. I once lost my credit card there, the employee found it and tracked me down via the internet. About 15 minutes later I got a phone call, it was Comic Fortress telling me I left my card at their store. That's not just the best customer service of any comic store in the area, that's the best customer service of any store in the area, period. Overall this place gets 5 stars because there is a whole lot to love and not a single negative, making it one of the best comic stores in the state. read more

This can get flagged or REPORTED I really don't care. The behavior of the manager of this store and its employees is disgusting. I called in reference for an individual with autism who loves this store and was interested in maybe job sampling in this establishment. The manager hung up on me which was extremely rude and the employee was no different. To know that they are a business in the area off near by towns like Manville and Hillsborough who are big advocates for Adults with Developmental Disabilities and to see how they behaved just upsets me and shows how they are not people or community friendly. I would never refer anyone to this establishment. read more

Such a great store. The staff are all really awesome people. It's a great place to go to get presents for friends, especially around Christmastime because they sell department 56 collectibles. Probably my favorite part of Main Street. Everything is very well organized as well. The owner Rick is a really good guy. He is always full of helpful suggestions and takes care of loyal customers. I have shopped there for as long as I can remember. It has hopped from spot to spot on main st. a couple times over the years but seems to get better every time it moves. My wife of over 20 years is also a huge fan. Guess what, they actually acknowledge your presence when you enter. Its a good thing! Some of the neighboring business' do not and its an immediate turn off. The employee was nice and helpful. I am new to the area and I attended their annual holiday sale yesterday. The store was very organized and clean. The young girl that helped me was very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with.
