Above these shortboxes are a fair selection of toys and collectables. Behind the counter are Pop Vinyl's, variant comic covers, and wall books. They also sell some sports cards and collectable card games. Employee was helpful and knowledgeable. There are several reasons why I would recommend another store like Zapp Comics or anywhere really. Several times I've been in the store and one or the owners berates and talks down to her employees in front of customers. It's really unpleasant to watch and is the main reason I don't shop there more often. The employees work very hard and the store is lucky to have them. They deserve more than being spoken to in a demeaning way. My advice to the managers try saying thank you more. The store has a lot of strange rules. The clerks have to put the comics in bags for you. The cashier and the clerk physically put hands in the books during checkout. Zapp comics lets you grab your bags and boards, treat your comics well, and pay for them at the end. It's a great system. There is an incentive reward program. Ok that's great. You get joker bucks when a certain amount is spent. When you check out and use them, you get an earful on how you should trade in smaller denominations of joker bucks to make it easier for the store. Not fun. The store is also dimly lit and has a depressing overall atmosphere.

I went here because it was close to my work. To check out they had this weird system where you had…read moreto hand your books to some teenager that wasn't even behind the counter. He would count the number of books, and announce to the woman/ owner at the register "9 books." She would take them shuffle them so they were in price order. She would then punch the quantities into a 40-50 year old cash register. Hysterically, on three different occasions, they over charged me by like 2 or three books. The first time this happened, I didn't realize it until after she had swiped my car. When I said "hey you overcharged me," she offered me Joker Bucks that could only be spent in the store... Of course I said "um. no. Give me my money." She was insanely rude, claiming it was an honest mistake and I should be more understanding. This happened on two other occasions. If you go to this store pay attention to what they ring up. Bonus hilarious story. The Owners claim to Own the cover to the Preacher #1. That gave me a huge laugh.

So many versions, so fun fun. Hot Wheels? There are cars in every color of the rainbow. Legos? There is a giant glorious aisle of allllllll the Lego sets. Seriously, so many it'll take you 30 mins to look at all the options Dinosaurs. Roar! Sports? Basketball. Baseball. Kickball. Tennis. Check check check. Koosh! Remember koosh balls?! Yup, they've got them. Plus Paw patrol. Bluey. Ms Rachel. Little People. And a ton of educational toys. Oh and a huuuge selection of plush lovies of every kind: chickens, cows, alligators, bears. Tiger. Narwhal. Puppy. Flamingo. Hedgehog. Koala. Walrus. Looking for a way to entertain your toddler? Bring them to this part of the store and listen to them call out each animal/character. Prices I think are on par for what you would pay at any other *non*-big-box store.. and I've never seen anything 'on sale' but I think the selection of items is a big deal. There is a ton in Marco's that I've never seen in those aformentioned big-box-stores. Bonus: for the grownups - there is a section of gifts, cards, ornaments, painted wine glasses, foods/candy, etc. The seasonal section when you walk in the store is always so good. You really could just get lost in this store - there's so much stuff. Kept back a star bc for the few/random times I've been in the store (and another reviewer mentions this too) no one has ever come up to ask if I needed help finding anything. It's not a big deal.. but the staff is always just at the front desk/counter, so I guess I know where to go IF I did need help.. The couple of times I did interact at the counter the staff was very eh. Not super engaging.. which seems strange/slightly sad for a store stocked with 75% toys. The lack of engagement is something I'm willing to overlook bc the stock/variety and volume of toys is just so good.

I've wanted to write this review for some time now but was hesitant because I LOVE MARCOS and I…read moredon't want to appear like I'm bashing the place. I'm writing this in hopes that the owner will read it and perhaps consider making some changes. I was born in 1971 and raised in Pequannock so of course Marcos was a huge part of my childhood. That being said, the interrior of the store is not much different than it was when I was a child. I'm a sucker for nostalgia and I love everything retro but...all the miss matched grungy utility mats on the floor are sad. The tattered old ugly awnings on the outside are sad. The boring window displays are sad. The woman who works behind the counter is sad and not very friendly. You work in a toy store for crying out loud It's not The Gulog! The staff in general is just MEH and don't seem very interested in helping anyone. I'm a huge advocate of supporting local business so paying a bit more is fine by me. I do all my toy and gift shopping here and I stop in when I need a break from the cruel hard world. I walk the isles and reminisce about a simpler place in time when I had not a single care in the world. I leave with a smile on my face and warmth in my heart. I don't want the place to change per se it just needs a few tweaks here and there. Fix up the outside for a more pleasing and welcoming appearance. Dress up the window displays for the seasons. Replace the darn awnings for crying out loud. Don't change the sign because it's a staple, just fix it up a little. Zhuzh the place up! Your business would improve if the overall experience was happier, more pleasing and inviting. How about introducing some kid friendly experiences like a story time, Lego and Barbie workshops, craft workshops use your imagination! You have the space if you just rearranged a little. You're smack dab in the middle of a wealthy town, people will come and they will pay. Give people a reason to shop there instead of at Amazon or the big box stores. All the long time residents have wonderful memories of Marcos and I'm sure they would love to see a facelift! We all have memories of riding bikes to Marcos with a few bucks in our pockets to find some necessary treasure. Heck, I'll do your window displays for FREE If you want! Every time I drive by or come in to the store I have a million ideas as to how it could be improved. I always say "if I owned that store I'd do this or I'd do that". I say this all with LOVE and I LOVE this store so much and I wish you many many more years of succes!
