Midtown Comics Downtown is really packed with everything you could ever want related to comics. This place is jam packed with my favorite items. I can browse in here a couple hours. I love the classic comics. If You can't find what you're looking for the employees are ready to help. There's two other locations for Midtown Comics but I find this location has an even better variety of comic related merchandise that isn't available at the other locations. The figurines are beautiful in their glass display cases. I'm a definite fan of Midtown Comics Fulton Street. Even if you don't collect comics it's a fun store to shop for gifts.

    A lot of comic books.

I was seeking some missing issues for a run of one dollar comics that had recently come out and fortunately for me, the Midtown Comics franchise had a number of copies of the ones that my local comic store didn't manage to get. In order to get them I placed the order online which was rather easy but there was some confusion in setting up the final payment, so either I was doing something wrong or something wasn't manifesting when I was supposed to see it. Either way once that had been taken care of I ordered my issues and marked the pick up spot at the Downtown store on Fulton Street, not far from the South Street Seaport. After a day at the American Museum of Natural History I learned my order was there so I headed downtown. The shop is located on the second floor and its very spacious up there. The staff was super friendly and they were chatting the typical geek things with some other customers. Since I had some time, I looked around and while I had been there before quite a few times I never pointed this out on Yelp. Being a comic book store there are obviously a lot of issues to rifle through for potential purchasing and they have quite a stockpile to choose from. I quick perusal of the space found me seeing a number of the latest action figures including a lot of Neca, McFarlane Toys and Funko offerings. Should you need supplies they have protective sleeves, boards and assorted holders for cards and the like. Sadly the plastic bag ban finds the store without plastic bags for your purchases but they have a sweet looking tote for you to purchase for a reasonable price. Oh yeah and very important for the time we are in, the staff was all wearing masks and I saw some gloves too. Shoppers must have a mask or leave the premises. A very good experience and a little something for everyone when all comes down to it.

Thinking of ordering comics online through Midtown? (Yeah, I'm adding my review to the countless others who rank this company one star for a crummy experience. You know those five star ratings are mostly fake...) Some things you should know: 1.) When can I expect my books? Even though your comics come out like clock work - these folks mail it whenever they get around to it. 2.) Got an issue of any kind? You can't talk to a person. Only email. The name of their customer service rep is "Jay Jonah Jameson." (HEY BE GRATEFUL IT'S NOT DOOM!!! I guess . . . and it's a telling choice.) 3.). Damaged in shipping? See my pictures and read all the comments on online ordering. 25% off your next order OR mail them back for a "refund," TPB not included, you pay for return shipping and you print them an invoice, write them a note (so.. you're like an employee...). I've been burned. So have others. Are you going to roll the dice?

I order through the app and online all the time and to date have always received what I've ordered and packaged very well. The only complaint I have is the processing time. It will take anywhere from 3-5 days from the time you pay before they actually ship.

Your only other option is Midtown Comics which is much better in every way. I've been going here for years though both to get stuff and to walk around, and it's still not bad. However the workers there are very rude a lot of the time. It's kind of been like this ever since I've been there. Like they're either not that willing to be helpful or they are actually straight up rude. After years of going to this place I actually saw a figure I wanted for the first time in one of the glass cases, and decided to grab one. Unfortunately there was a little small sign on the OTHER case that said don't open. After I basically got my figure out one of the employees stopped me. I profusely apologized once I realized my mistake, and still the employee told me around five times not to open even after I stepped away and apologized many times. But still I stood there and apologized for the display (a bunch of boxes). Then he gave me what I wanted (after I already basically did it myself) and then I went to the register. I then said "sorry I've been going here for years but I never got something out of the case before so I didn't know." And then another employee (who by the way was facing the case the whole time) said "It's behind glass for a reason", as if I'm in a museum. I apologized and left. The staff has been rude and entitled before but this has been my worst experience yet. Fun to walk around in, but it's hassle actually going here.

It was great to see them all in one place instead of having to hunt them down online. The cashier was super helpful and made the checkout process quick, even with a decent crowd. PRO TIP... just a heads-up if you use the elevator: I managed to get lost. I think the floors might be mislabeled, or maybe the elevator has a mind of its own, but it dropped me off right in the middle of a restaurant on a different floor. Once I found the actual shop (it's on the 2nd floor, not the 3rd floor), it was all good,. Either way. definitely the best spot in the city for back issues and new releases.

It's something to look into if you've young ones who you wish to inspire some fun reading material. In addition to this particular event I was looking for a couple of items. Midtown Comics near Times Square is located upstairs a narrow Spider-Man emblazoned staircase. This is where you will find all of the current releases along with numerous collected editions, toys and more. Upstairs is their stockpile of back-issues and despite having been to this location on numerous occasions over the last few years I've never managed to make my way upstairs and I must do that on one of my future visits. The interesting thing is that when I've looked for stuff the staff ran upstairs to check on it which saved me the walk up the other stairwell and since the knee feels creaky on these things of late I thank them for their helpfulness. The staff is friendly enough and helpful when you need something but let's face it, this can be a busy place depending on a release or event so the time to wax nostalgic about a myriad of related topics is not always possible. Generally I will frequent the location down on Fulton Street since I am over there more and even do brief YouTube videos on some releases for fun and Channel growth. Overall if you're in Times Square and love or are curious about comic books you can't go wrong here. You can record yourself for social media and share it straight away. You might also want to take a photo of the stairs up to the shop since its got a great Spider-Man illustration on it which I've mentioned and included for your enjoyment.

I brought in three statue items unopened in the original packaging. I checked on ebay for what the items sold for (not asking price but sold price) and it added up to about $600, I lugged the items over there and had to leave them there because they wouldn't get to them right away. The people/kids working there were very nice. I went to have lunch and got the text to return, and they are offering $150. So I picked up the items and turned down the offer. Again, they were very nice, it's just I wasn't willing to accept 25% of the value. I figured at worst it would be 50%. But I am better off getting closer to the actual price on ebay. Now, Buying. Lots of very expensive and exiting things to get, and I didn't have time to price check things so much, but my son is into the Nintendo switch and i spotted a used Marvel VS Capcom game he might like. It was $34.95. But just in case, I pulled up Amazon and looked the game up. A brand new one costs $21.79. So it would have been a terrible idea for me to buy it there. I guess if you are leaving work and need a quick gift, you might stop in and pay too much for an item. If you are in real trouble and don't have time to wait for an Ebay sale, you might consider selling your collectables for 25% the value, this place might come in handy.

For the unschooled in this bit of geeky-awesome, its held on the first Saturday in May and customers can get a pile of specially designated comic books for free it the retailer is participating in it. Some stores give you a hefty stack and others might hand out a single issue of something. The way I've noticed Midtown doing this is they set aside the main and most popular superhero titles and hand them to the interested in a little packet. Now its usually a good idea to purchase something else while you are enjoying a pile of freebies and I generally like to purchase a few issues off the racks. On this particular FCBD I had already visited the downtown Manhattan location and grabbed the milestone #150th issue of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". So back to Midtown GC. Like its companion stores the layout is pretty much the same. You have long racks of the newest and some recent titles and the pricier items are up high and require help from staff. The staff here knows their stuff and will help you find something if you are looking for it which is always nice. In the past I've found myself getting a recommendation as well based on what I had in the purchases. In addition to comics you can find all sorts of action figures, buttons, patches, shirts and comic collecting supplies like boxes, bags and boards. I don't generally get to the GC location and am more prone to visit their Downtown space but if this is the closest location for you there will be a lot of magic for you to discover. They have a nice number of new issues of the popular titles but I will recommend if you collect that you get a pull list started so you don't miss anything that might be more popular than something else. All this being said its fairly safe to say that if you enjoy this particular hobby you will enjoy your visit to Midtown Comics Grand Central and most likely their other locations as well.
