This is your average comic store. Friendly, but very few back issues. Not much of a reason to return.

I was late to the Bitter Root fan club. [Context: Bitter Root is a comic book series, published by Image Comics, about a Black family who hunts monsters and attempts to cure them. It's set in the 1920s with the Harlem Renaissance as the backdrop]. The first issue came out in November 2018, but I didn't stumble across the series until 2021. I enjoyed it tremendously and became obsessed with finding an original copy of the first issue to frame. Thus, I embarked on a journey to find it and after hitting up a bunch of comic shops in the city, to no avail. Months later, randomly, I decided to check out Galaxy Comics after meeting a friend for coffee, nearby, in the area. This was not in my original tour but I wish it had been. Not only did they have the first issue of Bitter Root, they had the next four too. Of course, I bought them all. Since then, I've been back a few times to stock up on comics. The vibe there is super chill and the staff really know their stuff. It's not the closest shop to me but I keep going because they always have what I'm looking for... even the older, harder-to-find titles. read more

As I am a resident of Bay Ridge, a couple of neighborhoods away from this one, I don't always get myself down to the Park Slope Galaxy Comics shop. However, this year the Bay Ridge store was not participating in the Free Comic Book Day event and it would only be in the Slope and since I love doing video and social media content on this special geeky day I headed down to the store just after it had opened its doors. The mission today was solely to do the video content for Free Comic Book Day on our YouTube Channel but I want to make mention just how stockpiled this store is. It's a long store with back to back pop culture content that you will enjoy. Tons of action figures from the major brands along with a full wall of Funko Pops. In the center is the racks for the new and very recent comic books and across the top shelf of both sides was the Free Comic Book Day provisions. That would only be set like this today of course and I imagine that any remaining FCBD provisions would sit in a single box or shelf space. They also have the supplies to help you keep your collection in order like plastic sleeves, backing boards and boxes. The staff at Galaxy Comics (the name is incorrect in Yelp) are helpful and point you to the things you might be most interested in. I like this as it helps bring the younger customers in and getting things that make them loyal fans of the medium. If you've found yourself in the vicinity be sure to drop in and spend a few bucks. That helps cool shops like this keep the doors open. read more

This store has a wide variety of everything. While I don't personally buy the statuary, I find it fun to look and marvel at who might pay $499 for a statue of baby Yoda. But like the Green Goblin said to Spiderman: "I chose my path, you chose the way of the hero. To each his own." When looking at all the comic books and graphic novels, I just thought to myself out-loud. "Wow, things have changed." They have some great small items too, like key chains and matchbox cars. Several boxes of comic books for just $1. I thought that was cool because it gives neighborhood kids the chance to pick something up. On this random weekday, it seems a little much for a single staff person, but I'll stop back in again soon to do some browsing and maybe a little gift shopping. read more

Not to be confused with Galaxy Collapsibles which is basically when the universe ends and becomes a black hole and we all die. Fun. Really awesome comic book store with all kinds of gaming collapse.... I mean collectibles that will thrill every geek. One of the better geek stores I've seen anywhere actually and it's right in the middle of trendy Park Slope. Not too horribly expensive considering where it is. Check it out for sure if you like this kind of shop. read more

Okay ima keep it wunhunjet wid you. I totally needed nothing from this store. I'm so not a collector or have any idea what to even collect when it comes to this type of thing. I was awaiting an appointment and decided to browse this store. The guy was friendly even as I'm sure expert he is he could spot a fraud miles off. He showed me zero shade as he asked if he could be of any assistance. He let me know he was available if I needed his help. He didn't even mind my snapping some photos. Gem. I saw comics, action figures, dolls...lots of them, books that borderline pamphlets (or the other way around), stickers, funny figurines, books, cards and specialty tee shirts. If this is your thing come on down, that nice guy behind the counter will attend to your needs. Now how do I rate this? The End. read more

I try my best to support local and especially any shop with books. They have signs up on the bookshelf that say 15% off graphic novels. When I went to check out the very rude guy at the register didn't take off any discount so I mentioned the multiple signs and his response was "those are old signs." Well you should stop misleading people and take them down. Also don't be incredibly rude and act like it was so outrageous when someone inquires about the signs. read more

Always an unpleasant experience shopping in Galaxy. To be fair the place is well-lit, well-stocked; except for legacy back issues, they probably have what you came in for. The people at the checkout desk are always annoyed and bored. Addressing them is an affront to their lifestyle. I am an action figure collector. I used to buy the sun beaten open figures that are displayed in the windows. Most figures were $10 without any of their accessories. The last time I was there I asked about some of the figures in the window. The worker said they would not sell any of the open figures if they had a boxed version on the shelf inside the store. Figures are very expensive, but I'm not a noob. I collect open figures. Most collectible stores try to serve different markets. Shouldn't a store try to survive. If the store presumably bought the figures from someone shouldn't they try to profit off them. Why keep them in the sun to make them totally worthless? I understand this is a very specific gripe. However, lack of consistency in the way things are sold or attempting to take advantage is not the way to treat consumers. read more

I have been shopping at Galaxy Collectibles in Park Slope for about 20 years now. They have had such a great staff over the years: Mo, Tommy, Classic Dave, David, & Brian. The staff is helpful, friendly & they always like to share what they know about comics. They also want to hear what customers think about the hobby as well. If you're into comic cooks (I'm not) then this Park Slope comic book and novelty collectibles shop is great for you. They have quite a selection of a bit of everything for all tastes. What I come for, their really good selection of nostalgic action figures from late 70s and 80s films. Got me a xenomorph from "Alien". Prices are a bit high for some items but the comics themselves are reasonable. The staff is a little snooty as well. Will come back again and recommended. read more

I wouldn't say I'm a comic book fan as I only really started reading them when Whedon started writing them. I do know that I could go to Midtown Comics or Forbidden Planet to get my fix, but I'd prefer Galaxy. Not just because it's near my house/gym/bar/pizza, but because it's small. It's a local store run by Brooklyn people and this makes it better than any large store. The staff is really friendly and helpful. In fact when a publisher screwed up a run of one of my books, the guy called to their sister store and had them send over a copy for me to pick up the next morning. And I'm not a regular so I consider that good service. I couldn't put any kind of price on the place as it depends on how much you read. read more

I just recently moved to bk and I've been to this spot a couple times already and after tonights experience I fully believe in my 5 star rating. Pretty great vollection of stuff here, comics and figurings/ alot of mainstream stuff though which is fine still really great. So here's the deal... My girlfriend bought an issue for me that I already had and of course lost the receipt. So I take a trip over and bring the issue not really expecting but more hoping they would do some sort of credit and exchange. I didn't even want money or anything aince I was going to buy something else regardless. Sooo i I head up the guy plea my case and he said basically with no receipt there isn't anything he can do. At this point Im bummed but w.e no big deal so I do my usual 20 mins wandering about before I settle on my new buys. I head back to the counter for check-out all normal and BOOM! He's like ah you know what I'll do it just this once since you weren't a jerk about it or complained. SWEEEEET! I Still bought stuff but was able to get one issue as an exchange. KUDOS ON CUSTOMER SERVICE! As someone from a retail background I definitely can relate to the same situation and have made the exception myself but to be on the other end of the experience is really awesome. plus last time I was there we had a pretty great convo on Ex Machina. Quintessential neighborhood comic store. It's not Forbidden Planet and it's not Midtown Comics. Its selection is partly dictated by space, and they make excellent use of the space. The major comic book store sections are represented: new & recent releases; boxes of back issues; a wall of TPBs; action figures; posters; and packs of cards. This is the place to come for recent issues and for a general geek fix. What made me fall in love with Galaxy (beyond just being in my neighborhood--that earns you a few points right off) is 10% off TPBs every day. They've got a good selection of mainstream trades, and the some smaller press ones in there, too. On Free Comic Book Day, that discount usually goes to 25% off. What kept me coming for my monthlies was small touches, like a free board and bag for each comic you buy. A good, local comic store. read more

An OK comic book store, this shop concentrates on the new issue market, with a full wall of Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and other mainstream and alternative comics. Just inside the doorway is a nice display of comics for children -- your Archies and such -- and manga translations. Along the floor of the new-issue wall are a whole bunch of genre magazines, including the Comics Journal and G-Fan, which was nice to see. The back wall is devoted to trade paperback collections, but primarily Marvel, DC, and such. There's very little along the lines of Fantagraphics, Drawn & Quarterly, Top Shelf, etc. in this store, at least in terms of TPBs. The center island is given over to back issues and what few independent collections they do have. And then two sides of the aisle along the wall of the checkout counter is devoted to action figures and such. For the genre fan who follows new-issue release dates and visits a shop weekly. Not really for the more refined reader or collector. But an impressive selection, nonetheless! A good gateway store. read more

You know how some collectible shops just seem to be extensions of the collections of their owners? That's kind of the impression we got about this place. While there's a solid selection of figures (including some pretty fantastic characters I totally did not expect to find, like throwbacks from shows that I can hardly remember), most of the walls are covered with books and comics, here. Very respectable. I'm making a big assumption here, but the owner who put all this together is generally a literary type. I can dig it. We didn't find what we were looking for but we liked the service: not pushy, very helpful, we were led around the store seeking something that would suffice as a Christmas present for a 16 year-old who loved video games. They carried some options but were currently sold out. Not a problem. Next time we're in the hood, we'll be back. read more

I've bought product here before and been reasonably happy with my experience, but on my most recent trip inside I ran into a few issues. When I go comics shopping (or really, TPB and graphic novel shopping, because I rarely buy individual issues) I typically browse for a long time before settling on my selection. Part of me just nerding out and trying to sample everything possible, I suppose. That being said, it's not uncommon for me to drop $100 at a go and leave with a stack of new books. Mid-way through my stack assembly, I started catching flack from the staff. Miffed, I left the store without purchasing anything, and walked down to Bergen St Comics, where I had an awesome experience. I've had fine experiences in the past, so let's average it out and leave it at 3 stars. Decent selection, though mostly DC and Marvel fare, and a staff that is only occasionally rude. read more

This is a great comic shop. The selection leans heavily towards super-hero books and other stereotypical nerd interests, but if that's what you're looking for, Galaxy does bang up job and is the place for you. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and Tom has an awesome Galactus tattoo that makes me jealous every time I see it. Need something? They'll order it. Also: 20% off new trades. Beautiful. If your interests are more small press / independent comics, then hop on the F train to Rocketship in Cobble Hill and spread the love. Just steer clear of the Manhattan mega stores. read more

This is my go to spot for comics and other things they have some good variants for a local place and open nice and early during the week usually 9 am. They have a lot of cool things other than just marvel and d.c. comics they have toys and other collectable items, comic shops are not that easy to find outside of Manhattan anymore. Galaxy is a great place the staff knows their stuff and are very friendly and they have another location in bay Ridge that is a little bigger with extra stuff to look at or buy but the park slop location is my go to spot! read more

I don't really read comic books, but every so often I'll want to pick up something that's been recommended to me, and Galaxy is the only place I go. It's not glamorous or anything, but the people who work there are friendlier than they need to be (and really, they probably should be more condescending to such a casual noob, right?), and they either have what I'm looking for or are able to get it in. I've given Galaxy gift certificates to a more comic-leaning friend, and he was able to use them at this location as well as the one on 7th Ave. (and I think Galaxy has at least one other store besides those two). read more

I preferred the previous name, i.e. Mutant Mania III-it sounded more intriguing-but that might just be a personal quirk. It's hard to find a good store. Smaller stores can often get that clubhousey feel so the second you walk in as a new customer you feel like you're intruding. Larger stores you get lost in the fray. Either way there's really no friendliness, no customer service. I know some people like to get in, out and not be bothered. But I am not one of those people. And a nice owner can always back off for the introverted customers... but a condescending owner? Well I can tell you I've never had much luck of getting them to warm up to a customer like me. When I walked into Galaxy Collectibles I expected as much. Generally silent service, perhaps even a twitch at whatever my choices might be. But you know what they say about making assumptions... The staff is some of the nicest I've run into as far as comic shops go. Hell. Some of the nicest I've run into as far as Brooklyn goes. Also, I've never had a problem with them stocking the indie books I'm reading, so thumbs on that point guys. read more

Ok so I don't care about comics. I'm a Marvel nerd and I collect POP figures and this place has them. They have all the latest POPS I'm talking about the new marvel figures and even the throwback Marvel figures. I must say I am impressed with the selection of comics, anime and manga stuff. They have it all. Service is great. There was a guy in there that helped me even educating me on some anime stuff but the regular guy( curly hair) is helpful. He has a real laid back style but helpful. Will recommend it's a neighborhood store and they always have what I need. So I'm happy. read more

I judge a comic store only partially on selection. Staff is really important in my comic buying experience. I have to admit that I am not as well versed in the world of comics as I was when I was in my teens, but I never feel like these guys are giving me the nerd elite judgement stare. They are more than willing to engage in some helpful conversation and point me to the perfect graphic novel contained in their massive collection. Such a great neighborhood vibe. I come here mostly for M:TG and related accoutrements. Good prices on that stuff (boosters are 4 for $15), and I've found the staff to be helpful when called upon. Cool toys too. I can't speak too much for the comic book selection as I don't really buy them for myself, but I've had good experiences buying gifts for others. What can I say about my ol' stomping grounds, Galaxy Collectibles? It's almost too difficult to distance myself enough to write review. And yet I will try. The smell of this store welcomes me like Lois Lane's bosom. I can recall a time, in my younger days, when I scurried from school to Galaxy Collectibles to pick up a new pack of Magic: The Gathering. I could hardly wait to unwrap the box and reveal all the glory of those cards. It didn't even matter that I had nobody to play with - the cards were rewards in themselves. I can't tell you how long I spent with Akroma, Angel of Wrath - that pure and powerful image of perfection. And who can forget Yeva, Natures's Herald? Her long, green dress populated my dreams of fanciful woodland liaisons. But the vampiress Olivia Volderan reserved my deepest desires. I often wondered how it would feel for her to sink her sweet teeth into my neck and carry me away on her wings. Were it not for Galaxy, I wouldn't be the man I am today. Where else could I find those Wonder Woman figurines, the X-Men comics graced by Storm and Scarlet Witch? It's not possible to award this store too many stars. read more

The problem with this place is the slob of a human being with the red hair that sits behind the counter doing absolutely nothing but giving anyone an attitude when asked a question. Since this is really the only comic book shop in the area, it has my attention. First let's go over each part: 1- They have a HUGE assortment of comic and movie related toys & collectibles. The toys are lined up to the ceiling around the entire shop. This included a wide assortment of bobble head dolls and statues. if you need something for your kids, they will have it here. 2- Service: The guys at the counter are always very nice to me, a repeat customer, and have even placed orders for me when I asked for specific things. For example I needed a specific ticket holder display size and he got in the next week. Excellent all around service. 3- Comics: of course they have all the most recent comics and they are all in excellent condition. However, i started coming back more often when he put almost all his back issues on sale at 5 for $1... yes 5 for only $1! There were tons of comics in the back that i could choose from and needless to say I made the most of my purchases. 4- Books: They also have a wide variety of graphic novels and Manga books. 5- Baseball cards: He has plenty of baseball cards from the current years to choose from by the pack or box, but not much from older generations. However, what he has that I buy here regularly are the card holders and cases. They have a large selection of different sizes at great prices. I come here from time to time when I need something and I always leave a satisfied customer. read more

I used to shop here just because it was in the neighborhood. Honestly in the past it really reminded me of one of those flea market, mothers basement shops. I stopped in a few days ago and the whole place has been remodeled. It looks great! The staff now was friendly, and seemed eager to talk about the reasonably weird title I was looking for. I mean for the most part this looks like a superhero shop, but I asked about some more independent crime comics, and the clerk still really knew his stuff. I was impressed with the turn around.
