I just came in for a few games after trading in a couple of old games and the transaction was pretty smooth. I might come back around here since there are a few other games here that caught my eye.

Selection (4/5): Tons of classic games especially in the Nintendo department. It brought a ton of…read morenostalgia especially for the Gameboy advance and SP which I had as a kid. Their selection is super impressive for all these classic games as it seemed like they had hundreds of games for classic systems. Service (3/5): No one really greeted us or were particularly friendly when we walked in. They gave us no issues though. The store's ambiance could be improved though because it seemed like boxes were just strewn in the back and the decorations weren't particularly enticing. Value (3/5): The retro games here are quite expensive! Some of the Gameboy advanced games are $60 and the machines were especially expensive. For example, the SP was almost $200. I guess it kind of makes sense since they aren't manufactured any more and it's in a premium location.

I went in to return a preowned game that i received in the mail & was immediately told that they go based of the purchase date - not delivery date. He then pretended to call his district mgr (there was no background noise - so i know he was lying) asking him the same question. Afterwards, i told him that he was wrong because i use to work for GS & i also spoke to customer service - they go based off the delivery date. He then snapped & said "ok, you can leave my store & call customer service for this, i dont need to help you". In most cases, a customer would be pretty upset & snap back, but i kept my cool, called customer service, they said they are going to let his DM know about his performance, & assist me in the best possible way with my return (which they did ASAP). & the cherry on top, he was greeting other customers afterwards, meanwhile he wasnt even greeting anyone for the entire time i was there, he was complaining about his stores metrics & how it doesnt make sense how they are ranked ~600 (which is terrible - especially for both stores). In all honesty, BOTH - GRAHAM STORE & KNICKERBOCKER SHOULD BE AVOIDED! Even all his employees that work under him are picking up from his bad habits (which is why they are all rude & dont want to help anyone). & yes, i've been to both stores many many times - this is exactly how they treat everyone that walks in. Take my advice with the largest grain of salt & you will not ever be disappointed. If you need to buy, sell, trade, return, exchange, pick up, AVOID THESE 2 LOCATIONS - YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

The store is well-designed and packed with Nintendo nostalgia, from classic characters to newer releases. There's a good mix of merch, collectibles, and display areas that are fun to browse, even if you're not planning to buy anything. It can get a bit crowded, and people lined up at least 10 minutes before the shop opened. Staff were friendly, and everything felt organized despite the traffic. Not a long stop, but a fun one -- especially if you're a Nintendo fan or just exploring the area.

There was several Nintendo Switch 2 demo gaming stations that let the visitors play different games for 10 minutes. There was Fifa game running a huge giant screen. They also had a display showing all historical versions of Nintendo gaming consoles. Items in the store were pricey as expected. Several staff members were available in both floors assisting customers with products and checkouts.

The Atari 7800 ProSystem was my first video game console. My dad got one for our family sometime in…read morethe mid-to-late 80s so I was around the ages of four to seven when I played it. The Nintendo quickly took over so our time with the 7800 was short-lived. However, the 7800 will always hold a special place in my heart since it was the first. Also, it's the only console and games I no longer own because my mom gave them away (sore subject), so it only exists in my memory and feels elusive. The 7800 launched in North America in May 1986 at $140 (USD). In 2020 dollars, that's $329.53. Not cheap. The system was discontinued in 1992 and I think a big reason why is because Nintendo dominated the video game market. The 7800 was highly overshadowed by the NES and I believe it has gone down as one of Atari's least memorable consoles. Atari's best-known console is its first, the 2600/VCS (1977). The subsequent 5200 (1982), Lynx (1989) with its portable color screen, and Jaguar (1993) with 64 bits were also more popular. Sadly, the 7800 kind of faded into obscurity. Here's a list of the Atari 7800 games we had, to the best of my recollection. Most of these are classics. * Asteroids (1987) The graphics on this were pretty decent for the time. * Centipede (1987) Challenging. I found the box art to be fascinating and not at all what was portrayed on the television screen. * Choplifter! (1987) I loved this game. I thought it was funny you could squash hostages and I would trick my mom into killing them that way. * Dig Dug (1986) The concept of literally blowing up enemies to defeat them was strange and bizarre to me, even as a kid. * Food Fight (1987) Perhaps the most memorable 7800 game to me. I remember the piles of greens were quite puny and it was fun to eat the ice cream before it melted. * Ms. Pac-Man (1986) What I remember most about Ms. Pac-Man were the cutscenes that played in between stages, eventually showing a stork delivering a Pac-Man baby. * One-on-One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird (1987) This game taught me what "one-on-one" and double dribble (and/or traveling) meant and introduced me to Dr. J and Larry Bird. I probably thought Dr. J was an actual medical doctor. * Pole Position II (1986) As a kid, I had no idea what "Pole Position II" meant other than it was an F1 racing game. My first racing game experience. * Xevious (1986) This was my first shooter game and I had to learn how to differentiate airborne enemies and ground enemies. It took a different weapon to destroy each one. The controller for the 7800 was interesting because it featured a joystick and two side buttons. I remember our joysticks wore out fast and accumulated a lot of white powder/shavings/residue of some sort from all the friction the stick made with the controller base. I wouldn't regularly play a home console with a joystick again until the release of the Nintendo 64 in 1996. It was then that sticks became regular on game controllers again. Overall, I thought the graphics and gameplay on the 7800 were decent, but the sound definitely left something to be desired. The 7800 was backwards-compatible with 2600 games. My friend brought over some of his 2600 games and we played them that way. I remember Combat (1977) and Frogger (1981) in particular. I also somehow got my hands on, I believe, a copy of Asteroids (1983) for the 5200 (perhaps from overseas), but it didn't work on the 7800. The game would come through all garbled. These days (2020), Atari is still alive and kicking and its biggest news most recently is the launch of Atari Hotels. Yes, hotels. Video game-themed hotels in eight American cities with the first one slated to break ground in mid-2020 in Phoenix, Arizona. Personally, I love the concept, but question its viability. Good luck, Atari! I'm rooting for you.

Buying and Selling at Book Off What a cool store. So much to…read moresee. Unfortunately, it is lousy to sell at and expensive to buy at. First, Selling. I brought in three statue items unopened in the original packaging. I checked on ebay for what the items sold for (not asking price but sold price) and it added up to about $600, I lugged the items over there and had to leave them there because they wouldn't get to them right away. The people/kids working there were very nice. I went to have lunch and got the text to return, and they are offering $150. So I picked up the items and turned down the offer. Again, they were very nice, it's just I wasn't willing to accept 25% of the value. I figured at worst it would be 50%. But I am better off getting closer to the actual price on ebay. Now, Buying. Lots of very expensive and exiting things to get, and I didn't have time to price check things so much, but my son is into the Nintendo switch and i spotted a used Marvel VS Capcom game he might like. It was $34.95. But just in case, I pulled up Amazon and looked the game up. A brand new one costs $21.79. So it would have been a terrible idea for me to buy it there. I guess if you are leaving work and need a quick gift, you might stop in and pay too much for an item. If you are in real trouble and don't have time to wait for an Ebay sale, you might consider selling your collectables for 25% the value, this place might come in handy.
