If you're looking for old stock to complete a collection, chances are, this is where you want to be. Majority of the warehouse *is* old stock with a smaller section for newly released comics. To me that's not really a downside because if you wanted new comics you could go literally anywhere else. But if you're looking for treasures, hard to find older issues, or just older comics in general that you want to read and don't care about the resale value or the condition it's in, this is the place for you. It's a place for collectors and enthusiasts that are searching because they want to own something, not because they're trying to hold it for resale. As for me, I was able to grab Star Wars IV, V, VI in comic form which I never even knew they made, just $5 each. I think this is a must-visit for comic lovers and I'm SO glad our uncle brought us here. Even if you aren't looking for anything, you really need to go just to see how many comics are on these shelves. It's mind-blowing.

There are even boxes for young readers. Upstairs there are toys, boxes , bags and boards. There are trades as well. They are priced reasonably. They aren't organized but it's fun to browse.

The store itself is tiny--feels more like a closet. They do have a decent variety of anime merch and a few unique items at fair prices. But the place is unbearably hot and muggy, like a sauna, and looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months. First off, let me say that while The Lair is a "comic book store" in that they sell comics, they…read moresell many other things as well - toys, caps, accessories, and - most importantly for me - Magic The Gathering cards. I don't really buy anything but Magic cards there (and peripherals), but the comic section is up to date and they offer a subscription service - so tell them what books to pull and they'll be there waiting for you when you come in to pick them up. The Lair has recently started bringing in celebrities (from the comic and sci-fi/fantasy world) for signing events and meet and greets - for a store in the Bronx, this is a big deal! Magic the Gathering is now a big part of what The Lair does - and if you're looking to play on a Friday night or over the weekend (Standard, Modern, Constructed, Draft, etc...) this is your spot in the Bronx. For marathon sessions - caffeine and sugar filled snacks are available for purchase (most at $1 each). The owner goes out of his way to do right by his customers - all sorts of perks, give-aways, etc... And the regular customers are a pack of really great guys (I saw someone bring a girlfriend once - so females do pop in, but don't expect too many of them to be there at any given time). I wish I could give that fifth star, but the accommodations are cramped. It's not anyone's fault - the store was not set up to be a gaming space... But - as you might imagine - some people who play Magic are larger dudes who need space to spread out. And yes - there's a bathroom on site to use - but I don't recommend it if you're claustrophobic (it makes the store iteself appear spacious). Again - these are really only issues if you plan to play games (literally) at The Lair and are going to be there for multiple hours on end. As a straight store for shopping for your comic, sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming needs - top notch. Highly recommended!

New York Comics has just opened their doors in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and it's just what this section…read moreof the neighborhood needed. Truth be told there are not many comics and collectible shops in Bay Ridge so a brand-new one is a welcome addition. They're located off of the main avenue thoroughfare on 79th and while the store itself is small, they are very well-stocked. As you walk in you see plenty of different lines of action figures and both recent and older back issue boxes of comic books from numerous companies. They also have some racks of cars, and higher priced books and slabbed editions are up on higher shelves. As it was opening day, there was candy everywhere to give you a sugar rush. They also had a wheel that you could spin with every purchase and there were some truly amazing prizes to be had. On the wheel I saw discounts on next purchase, back issues from assorted boxes and more. My purchase was a "Marvel Legends" action figure that I had been looking for and when I got to spin the wheel I won a slabbed "Batman" Annual #2. Oh yeah and for those who don't know the term, a "slabbed" edition means that the comic is in a sealed and graded plastic container and no longer readable. Having never owned one before I thought this was rather cool. My visit was shortly after lunch so it was rather crowded based on their doing opening day stuff and I was happy to see this being the case since I've known one of the owners for a couple of years. They are not even two minutes away from Skinflints which is another favorite of mine and if you're heading there you can pop into New York Comics afterwards. It's important to know that there are no new comics being sold at the store at this time but who knows if they change that practice at some point going forward. They wouldn't need to stock everything but with the recent relaunch of "Batman" selling a half million copies that's not a bad idea. I know I'll be popping in from time to time to see what's new and exciting and I hope that they will begin stocking some of the collected editions as well since I like those every once in awhile. With this persona reply, I can see why. I guess its more a club house than a store. The door is usually locked anyway. They're not open when they say they are. And from the looks from the window, the store is super tiny and has nothing . go somewhere else. Theres a much better comic store both on the LES and in the Bronx on Fordham road that's worth the trip.

No cardboard protection so the book was damaged pretty good during shipping. It also came with a nice little message on the package "enjoy the book don't buy from us again", and people wonder why comic book shops are going out of business these days. Just poor service overall.
