They've got a great selection of trade paperback comics (all of which they take 20% off!!) and the latest issues are generally well-stocked. The action figure selection is top-notch and there's almost always a good bunch of discounted items worth perusing. Their T-Shirt game is pretty strong overall. Most of the staff are friendly enough and give decent recommendations. Man, I want to just 5 star Galaxy so much, because *most* of the staff there are decent human beings, but there's this one guy in particular who just makes it suck to be in the store. Whenever I'm passing by the store and I see him behind the counter I keep walking. If you've ever shopped in the 5th Ave store you know the guy I'm talking about, the one who looks like The Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons. Anything and everything he could harass me about over the years he has done, from giving me grief about using the credit function of my bank card instead of using it as debit, to making me feel like I was asking for a personal favor when I brought a comic book back in for exchange because I had mistakenly purchased it twice, to saying "I have to call my boss first" because my request for a large number of gift cards worth $5 each was "such a small amount". That's what I get for trying to support a local small business. It's pretty bemusing to have someone work so hard to make me not give them my money. Instead of waiting for his boss to pick up the phone, I opted to go to Neergard Toy Store instead, where they happily took my money for the gift cards. The recipients of said gift cards will no doubt end up spending more than the $5, with the parents picking up the balance. This was my thinking when planning this out, that it would go towards a larger purchase, but instead of supporting a comic book store, now it's going to support a toy store. The upside here is that Neergard's toy store is run by someone who truly loves toys and understands that it should be a pleasant experience to shop in their store. Whoever that large sour guy behind the counter is related to that allows him to be the "manager" of Galaxy Comics seriously needs to give him some other job, because his customer relations skills leave much to be desired. EDIT 8/19/16 - I have since learned that Galaxy Collectibles uses a system for their gift cards that costs them $1.25 per card. They eat that cost whenever a gift card is purchased, which means that my idea for a bunch of small gift card amounts was disproportionately expensive per transaction. It's an unfortunate result coming from a good intention on my part as well as on their part (not passing the cost on to consumers). It would have been helpful for them to have a minimum amount for gift cards as a policy. I've adjusted them to 3 stars to reflect this understanding. If only it didn't suck to shop there sometimes. read more

3.5 stars -- not quite 4, but almost. I was a fan of the Galaxy Comics location on 7th Ave, even though it was smaller. The 7th Ave location seemed to include more small press material. This location is jammed with comic books, and is heavily weighted towards the mainstream -- DC, Marvel, etc. The percentage of off-beat material seems proportionately smaller. The clientele is predictably more mainstream, too. This isn't a _problem_, but it isn't a plus; hence my neutral-leaning rating. Prices are good. Comics are typically discounted 10% (though I haven't been there recently) and some are discounted more. There are occasions when you _will_ get a better price than online -- a better price than Amazon. That's a huge plus. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, but often pretty busy when I've been. read more

Love this place! The one man who helped me was so sweet and didn't give me the typical eye roll or exasperated sigh when I didn't really know what I wanted. He walked me through the different types of cards I was trying to buy before I settled on my own pack. He was great and it's too bad I didn't get his name. Terrible busines!!! Went in and out of my accout via PayPal with out any form of email notification of price changes. Was charged more than internet page stated! Then the company put the 18 funko POPs up for $115.95 for damaged box/clearance, then 3 days after I purchase this they put the same thing up for $98.95. When trying to contact the phone ranger over and over and no respose yet to email. Very sad business and company do not buy. I will be reporting them to the BBB if they do not respond. This place focuses on capes & floppies. I like capes; I'm not the sad sack biography indie comic guy. I don't really like floppies though, & that means I don't have too much use for this place. Don't get me wrong; I'm not hating. I just already have relationships with independent bookstores, & I order my trades from them. When I need a gift though, I sometimes stop in here; they have plenty of collectibles, so if you know someone who wants a Simonson Thor lunchbox or a Kirby bobblehead, this is your joint. They'll happily special order for you & trades are 20% off, so don't let my ambivalence stop you-- like I said, I just already have a supplier. read more

Kids would love this place. There's new comics and toys everywhere. For adults, you won't get that old comic smell that older shops have. There are no rows of boxes filled with classics here. It's a small space with pretty much two aisles. read more

last week i had gone in to purchase a few comics and i overheard the man behind the counter saying he cant charge more for a comic not listed as a variant, today i had gone in and tried to buy a comic and i was told it was a variant cause half of the face of the girl on the cover was green. he then told me the comic is 7$ with a cover price of $2.99 and proceeded to remove all the comics from the shelf and put a 7$ price tag on them. the comics were released today so threres no reason for them to be 7$ when the cover price is 2.99. this store is ridiculous. read more

This place is filled with amusing stuff like all kinds of toys, games, t-shirts, etc, and of course the comics. Even if you're not the biggest fan of these things, I don't see how anyone could stop in this store and not find it enjoyable. read more

I have visited Galaxy Collectibles several times since 2011-2012, and I must say: Each and every time I come away increasingly disappointed. The experience of Free Comic Book Day at the store is emblematic of my problems with this place. In 2012-2013, you could take one of each; in 2014, you could take 10; in 2016 (I missed 2015) you were limited to five out of a selection of easily 25. Or how about prices of minor items? You used to be able to get five comic-character pins for 3 dollars. Now they're 1.50 a piece. There's also a reason that the collectibles are never sold - literally, I've seen the EXACT SAME ACTION FIGURE since 2012 in stock, dings in the packaging and all - because they are stupidly expensive. Even small action figures are nearly 20 dollars, and the larger ones are pushing the 30+ dollar range in general. The toy store above Neergaard pharmacy and DII sell their figurines for much better prices and within 100 feet of the store. They have an extensive stock of graphic novels, but nothing but new comics, and a paltry supply of new comics. Miss an issue? You'll be lucky if you can find a back one. Occasionally they have discount back issues, but not frequently. Now, for the help? I find them nasty, unhelpful, uninformed, and unenthusiastic. They don't have a strong sense of supporting the fandom at all, having virtually no desire to talk about comics or offer any meaningful ideas for series you might want to check out. They own a comic book store, and they seem to not give a damn about comic book fans, nor do they have good knowledge or opinions on material to help a comic book fan explore new titles, authors, or genres. Plus, on Free Comic Book day, when some people -next to me- asked for my opinion as a fellow consumer on something, or asked me whether something was this or that, he got mad that I answered instead of ignoring them or, more likely, sending them up to the counter with comics they had to pay for instead of what was free (aka: they seem to want to sucker people into purchasing stuff not covered by Free Comic Book Day). He also told me to stop talking to someone, though we were out of the way of people moving past - making a POINT to be right in the corner to avoid that. I mean, what the hell sort of rudeness is that? His customer asked me because maybe they thought someone with a thougthful appraisal of the comic books might have a good opinion, and he got pissed off that I was helping -for free-? What a power trip. I mean, it was minor questions, too: "Are these part of the promotion?" "No. Just the one on the top shelf." "Are these also part of free comic book day?" "No--Oh you mean the ones right -here-? Yes." "Hey, which one would a little boy like?" "Oh, maybe..." which I then deferred to him when he inserted himself (again - probably trying to get a sale). I mean, what the hell do you want me to do? Literally tell people to screw off in your store? Get a grip, loser. This is how the community functions properly: we help eachother so we all have a better experience. You don't like that? Don't be in the biz. Which given the prices and atmosphere here, will hopefully not be very much longer. To be clear: My problems extend beyond Free Comic Book day promotions. I've come here several times on non-Free Comic Book Day, usually on the way to Leopoldi's hardware or the awesome Primetime Liquors. Everytime, I've been shocked by the just total lack of good atmosphere. The people do not give a damn and don't want to do shit for you. They won't even help you find shit in general. This place is awful. I would not recommend anyone go here except to get some free comic books and leave. There are better places, surely, in this neighbourhood and in Brooklyn as a whole. Hell, even Midtown Comics, for all its hype and bullshit, is vastly better as a store in Manhattan. You can and should do better: this place is for suckers and for people who have no desire to increase the fandom that butters their bread and puts money in their pocket. read more

I love this shop. I only buy comics a few times a year, mostly reprints, but I have young kids and they're becoming budding collectors. I love the staff, they're clearly people who have completely given themselves over to the life. They give out free comics on Halloween and that's a real neighborhood service. Unlike many specialty shops (i.e. Bierkraft) nobody's looking down their nose at newbies. We're lucky to have Galaxy. read more

If you like superheroes and zombies, action figures and bobbleheads, collectibles and Shazam! t-shirts, trading cards and playing cards, then Galaxy is where it's at. i used to think this was a great store myself untill they found out i was making more money on what they were selling then they (personally) were. once they found out i was making quite a good income off of what i bought from them they suddenly put a limit on what i can buy. i used to go in and buy 100 - 300$ every first shipment of the month and 50 - 100 a week for the rest of the month. today when i went in (first day i was told about this "limit") i had tried to purchase a few variants (cover price 3.99 they sell them for 20 and up) i wanted 2 of each i was told i can no longer buy two of each. so i went to the shelves where there was another comic i wanted and i was told i cant buy two of that either. i asked how are you telling me i cant buy somthing on the shelf, i was told they are variants but nowhere on the comic does it say variant and if it was a variant they would have it up on the wall for a higher price then cover. ive been buying comics and colectibles from there for years, recently i told them i sell the comics and make a profit now theres alimit on what i can buy. very disapointing store...... read more
