I always enjoy a visit to Galaxy Comics 2 in Bay Ridge based on their wide assortment of comics, trade paperback editions and action figures. If you are a fan of this kind of stuff, its pretty safe to say that you will be spending a little bit of money when you drop in. They have a wide assortment of the action figures and especially I have noticed a healthy amount of the miniature Marvel Comics characters along with whatever comics related film is currently on the big screen. They do have a supply of boards, bags and boxes for those who need them to properly keep your collection in order and safe from dirty hands. The staff is helpful enough when it comes to finding things you might be interested in but since comics and figures and the like are such a subjective and personal preference I feel its best to go with your gut instead of seeking an okay from someone else. Remember a merchant is there to sell you on their offerings at the end of the day. Sometimes other fans of the mediums are your best choice. Closing up I will add that GC2 also participates in "Free Comic Book Day" which is a wonderful thing. Kudos to them for giving something back to the patrons and fans of this kind of stuff. read more

One of the few comic book/baseball card shops in the area. They focus more on comics and have a large selection which are mostly recent releases. You also have a selection of toys and collectibles all around the store, there is alot to look at so plan in staying there for a few minutes to see their selections. The sports card selection is limited and all behind the front register, they have mostly 2010 releases any certain brands back to 2007 but nothing older. The two guys who run the place seem to know their comics better then their baseball cards. read more

Huge selection, rude staff. Definitely a variety of options, and enough room to browse without feeling cramped. You'll be sure to find something you like here if you're into comics. However, and I'm not the only reviewer to mention this, the staff was rude and seemed annoyed to help customers. I don't really get it. Some younger girl asked if they had a comic in stock, and the employee's eyes almost rolled out of his head. Some guy asked if they had something in stock and they straight laughed at him. Similar thing happened to me too, god forbid you interrupt the never ending conversation between staff members to try and actually buy something. Ima keep it simple, 2 young dudes, where at the cash register and like a normal customer would do I tried to put my items on the desktop so he can scan it if he needed to. normally I wouldn't be so mad at an employee that tells me something isn't necessary to do but with a agressive and condescending tone this mf wanna say "Don't put it on our counter, I already know the price of it". Like I said I wouldn't be mad but it's the way he said it. Like how the fuck was I supposed to know? This place sells not only comic books but also super hero figurines, candies, and even collectible cards. I feel like i am going back to my childhood days. I've passed this place like a million times but I'm not a big comic guy so Ive never walked in until this afternoon. The pet cat sitting on the counter was the only thing I liked. I walked in to get a gift for my kid and the guy working there had a crummy 'better than you' comic nerd attitude when I asked him a question about the anime she likes. Actually made me feel bad I asked him. He gave me this dorky, "heh dude, I've never even heard of that" type of slighted response and that's all I needed to realize I'm not giving them my money. I guess my two biggest points are the prices on the stuff they had seemed crazy high and the guy behind the counter couldn't have made it any clearer that I was bothering him by asking a question. I felt like I wasn't dorky enough to be in there or something. If they had been cool with me I probably would have bought something, even though they didn't have exactly what I was looking for. They got a solid selection of back issues and plenty of variant covers. Plus they keep up with the new marvel/dc titles so that helps too, and they got a decent amount of indie books. Staff is cool to chat with and super helpful. read more

Neighborhood comic book shops can vary by quite a bit. Galaxy is a really good small shop. Good prices, discounted titles, new issues and a solid variety of graphic novels if one is looking into older storylines. I started going there about seven years ago and now I stop in once a week. Nice spot to find some reading material or the occasional action figure for your kids. read more

I used to come here a lot because it's the closest conmic book shop to me, and overall it was pretty solid. However, it had a few problems. Popular new issues (like Batman or Saga) would sell out pretty quickly, and the back issues weren't organized in any discernable way. If I were to rate it a year ago, I would've given it three stars. BUT NOW all that has changed! Since then, they undergone some renovation and the store looks great! It looks way more organized and they have an impressive collection of graphic novels and manga. They also have plenty of toys for kids and adults alike! The staff is always friendly and helpful. Keep in mind if you're paying by card the have a $10 minimum,. The new management has improved the place a lot! Removed all the video games, and all the foul-mouthed kids. Much more room to see the comics racks AND the toys. The staff know comics better than before. Nice selection for kids comics, convenient for the kids to browse apart from the more grown-up books. Small selection of back-issues, not particularly catering to collectors -- but lots and lots of collected editions, often as discount prices. Subscription discounts, too. A small-fry operation, but decent and kid-friendly. read more

The management was changed in 2007 (using Mike B.'s review date) and it's a mix for me. I grew up going here to play arcade games whether it be driving or fighting games. I miss these easily accessible games - especially the Marvel vs. Capcom one. However, it did get loud and obnoxious with all the cussing that happens here and there from neighborhood kids. Plus, the previous owner used to smoke indoors. Two things I will not miss. The new management has the store well spaced with easily accessible comics and items for customers. Much appreciated compared to the cramped viewing space before. Owners are friendly and help out with purchase questions. So, it's a toss-up, but the new spot feels safer sans the secondhand smoke and random hooligans running amok. read more

Awesome comic shop! It's on the small side but it is packed to the brim. Being next to a movie theater they have a bunch of candy in the front. The rest of the store has a lot of toys/action figures, and of course comics. There's an easy going store cat that roams around and the usual guy working there is very friendly and helpful (not that common in comic shops). Decent LCS. Gives you 15% off after a certain amount spent always and gives a bag and board for each purchased book. Only issue is this and it's a semi serious one. They never have enough books in stock and sometimes there's damage of sorts to every book for the certain issue they do have limited stock of because they don't order enough of that certain issue on the shelf. Lastly they rarely have variants which to me is crazy. Other wise nice staff and will get most of your comic fix but not all of it. The Park Slope location is definitely better. read more

A nice neighborhood comic book store. It has a nice selection of toys, a small back issue section and, of course, all the newest comic books every week. The reason why I come in here most often is because of the trade paperbacks. They have a large selection and every now and then there are sales. I stop by this place a lot because it is right next to the movie theater so it's great for killing time before or after a movie. Often I'm coming out of a comic book movie and feel the need to stop in just like I did after Guardians of the Galaxy. read more

This place is awesome. Always shiny and well organized. The owner and the crew are super friendly. They go out of their way to answer your questions and recommend things. They usually have everything I need and when they don't, they try to get it for me. They always have discounts and great deals on back issues. Without claiming to be a comics and collectibles expert, I can say that this store seems perfectly adequate to meet your average comic-book-related needs. It's right by the Alpine Cinema, so if the latest superhero movie is demanding that you purchase the tie-in merchandise, you don't have far to go to shop.
