One of the few comic book/baseball card shops in the area. They focus more on comics and have a large selection which are mostly recent releases. You also have a selection of toys and collectibles all around the store, there is alot to look at so plan in staying there for a few minutes to see their selections. The sports card selection is limited and all behind the front register, they have mostly 2010 releases any certain brands back to 2007 but nothing older. The two guys who run the place seem to know their comics better then their baseball cards.

If you're looking for old stock to complete a collection, chances are, this is where you want to be. Majority of the warehouse *is* old stock with a smaller section for newly released comics. To me that's not really a downside because if you wanted new comics you could go literally anywhere else. But if you're looking for treasures, hard to find older issues, or just older comics in general that you want to read and don't care about the resale value or the condition it's in, this is the place for you. It's a place for collectors and enthusiasts that are searching because they want to own something, not because they're trying to hold it for resale. As for me, I was able to grab Star Wars IV, V, VI in comic form which I never even knew they made, just $5 each. I think this is a must-visit for comic lovers and I'm SO glad our uncle brought us here. Even if you aren't looking for anything, you really need to go just to see how many comics are on these shelves. It's mind-blowing.

Truth be told there are not many comics and collectible shops in Bay Ridge so a brand-new one is a welcome addition. They're located off of the main avenue thoroughfare on 79th and while the store itself is small, they are very well-stocked. As you walk in you see plenty of different lines of action figures and both recent and older back issue boxes of comic books from numerous companies. They also have some racks of cars, and higher priced books and slabbed editions are up on higher shelves. As it was opening day, there was candy everywhere to give you a sugar rush. They also had a wheel that you could spin with every purchase and there were some truly amazing prizes to be had. On the wheel I saw discounts on next purchase, back issues from assorted boxes and more. My purchase was a "Marvel Legends" action figure that I had been looking for and when I got to spin the wheel I won a slabbed "Batman" Annual #2. Oh yeah and for those who don't know the term, a "slabbed" edition means that the comic is in a sealed and graded plastic container and no longer readable. Having never owned one before I thought this was rather cool. My visit was shortly after lunch so it was rather crowded based on their doing opening day stuff and I was happy to see this being the case since I've known one of the owners for a couple of years. They are not even two minutes away from Skinflints which is another favorite of mine and if you're heading there you can pop into New York Comics afterwards. It's important to know that there are no new comics being sold at the store at this time but who knows if they change that practice at some point going forward. They wouldn't need to stock everything but with the recent relaunch of "Batman" selling a half million copies that's not a bad idea. I know I'll be popping in from time to time to see what's new and exciting and I hope that they will begin stocking some of the collected editions as well since I like those every once in awhile. Wishing New York Comics a thriving future. Get your geek on my friends.

Over the last few months, I have spent a lot of time at Boulevard and as Tatiana the owner gets to know you, you become not only a loyal customer but a friend. Her events are awesome and something that Dyker needs. Working in Manhattan sometimes I'm just too tired to stay around in the city for a book signing or cooking class - Boulevard offers regular events such as this and it's only a couple of blocks away from our apartment. Poetry readings, psychic readings, meet and greets - I was so surprised to see such great monthly events when I first stopped in and each event is interesting and fun. The ones that have a cost attached to them are minimal fees and even though I don't have kids, I noticed Boulevard has a ton of kids book events and arts and crafts. They know you by name, track all of your purchases and have a loyalty program where you get a $5 coupon occasionally with your purchases. I joined the book club and the other customers in the store get to know each other and look forward to seeing each other at different events. I've also found some totally random kitschy books here for gifts that people have loved. As for the book selection, even if it's not as big as a chain bookstore, Boulevard has a great variety of books. Best sellers, secret finds, popular series - they have them and in almost every genre including a big kids and teen section. Boulevard feels homey and warm when you come in and like I said, Dyker really needed a place like this. I'd rather give Tatiana and her awesome staff my money than Barnes and Noble or Amazon. Considering how much I spend there, I may be asking them for a second job soon!
