The train car at Clinton Station Diner
    Bruce K.

I bookmarked the Clinton Station Diner when I read about the eating challenges and how interesting the restaurant is, as a former train car. So when we were passing through, this was our lunch time break. No, I did not try and do any of their insane eating challenges. For Mrs. K. and us, this was a normal diner lunch. We don't have too many of these "we have everything" diners back home so it was a treat. Our waitress brought a burger to a neighboring table and it looked amazing. But I'd had a burger for dinner last night so I settled on a Reuben and switched it to turkey. What arrived a few minutes later was a MASSIVE plie of food. Toasted rye bread on the bottom, cole slaw in the middle and piled high with thick pieces of turkey breast and with melted Swiss cheese on top. Next to that, a pile of hand cut fries. Amazing. It was delicious, filling and fresh. A really awesome meal. And speaking of awesome, Sonia greeted us with a warm smile and an easy charm that instantly made the meal special. She anticipated our needs with quiet grace, never hovering but always appearing at just the right moment. Her genuine kindness and effortless professionalism turned a simple meal into a memorable experience. As well, a reasonably quiet seating area was most pleasant. Five stars for the Clinton Station Diner and five stars for the fabulous Sonia! [Review 947 of 2025 - 169 in New Jersey - 24502 overall]

Been here several times, as we use to pass it on our way north from New Jersey. Large diner with lots of seating. You can eat in the train car (room permitting). Large diner menu. All the food is delicious and plentiful. So many Dessert choices. Unfortunately, they give you so much food, I rarely have room. Service was very good and attentive. Wasn't crowded, but it was Monday. Always a great place to go if you have a chance.

We came here for a quick bite. Normally service is very efficient and fast but I'm guessing there was a shortage in staff. Our waitress was very nice and did everything to accommodate us. We got the Greek salad with chicken and the buffalo chicken wrap. Food is always so good here.

Did take out - Texas Burger, requested a "side" of sweet potato fries but was charged for deluxe and the substitution! $20 for a burger?! Nope! Felt like they were nickel and diming me! We've eaten here before and loved it! Not sure if we'll be back?!

I hadn't been to the Clinton Station Diner in years, so it was great to go back. The place is unique with a semi-rustic feel, a rail car section, and one long showcase of desserts. In fact, I have been to diners around the country and have never seen this extensive of a menu. My girlfriend got a cheese steak with onions. The flavor was great and the roll was amazing though were fresh cut fries were cool. My Greek Omelette (feta, onion, tomato, and kalamata olives) was good but lacked a little flavor, oddly enough. My potatoes were cool and so was my rye toast. My iced coffee was fantastic as well as the really tasty fruit cup. Our server, Lexi, was absolutely amazing. She is kind and professional, as well as being a great listener. Right off Route 78, the diner is open 24-hours with a staff that never rests!

Wow!!! The Early Bird special is the way to go. This was my moussaka. What is not pictured is my cup of matzo ball soup, salad from the salad bar, glass of wine & dessert. Let's just say - 90% of this dish went home with me as well as a slice of pie.

Walked into this gem of a diner and were seated in an old fashioned vintage train car. Fully decorated for the holiday season, we just had to take pics. Service was very warm and attentive. Valerie was great. Food was great and wonderful portions. When I got the bfast platter I stated Taylor ham and found out I don't get a choice- I get all three meats. French toast tasted like mom made it. Blueberry pancakes my husband got were filled with fruit and fresh fruit on the side as well. Charming train decor and the hostess has great attention to detail and service. Big beautiful display of desserts as you pay. We got chocolate covered strawberries for the ride into PA

Local 24 hour diner with a cute train connected to the restaurant. We made it just in time for the early bird special which included soup and salad, a glass of wine and dessert with the entree. We all got the short ribs and they were nice and tender and served with a bed of potatoes and carrots. Service was a little slow but that may have been because the waitress seemed new. Overall a place with big hearty meals whenever you need.

Definitely a nice visit with the kids. Which kid doesn't like trains? We came here because we wanted to charge our electric vehicle while dining. There were plenty of charging spots and regular spots. The dining in the train car is limited though, so it's first come first serve. There is a much bigger dining area in the restaurant but not part of the train car. I personally thought it was very cool that the train car is nearly 100 years old. Imagine the history that the train car witnessed. The food was decent, the fries could have been a bit crunchier. The payment is done at the front desk, which was fine. What was a bit weird was the tipping there was no percentage and it was only a dollar amount, so I guess it's best to calculate the amount before you're about to pay. Definitely will come back here when my family is in the area.

So my wife and I decided to give CSD a try. First visit for us and the place is a very unique 24 hour x 7 days diner. We ordered a full stack Buttermilk Pancakes and side of sausages. The taste was excellent for both. But for my plate, the grill cook decided to 'hide their mistakes' under the top Pancakes. The middle pancake was. Issuing a big chunk and the bottom cake was very thin and also not a full circle. I bought it to waiters attention who had manager mark the meal down to a short stack, an .80 cents savings! Wow . Poor customer service and we won't be going back anytime soon.

We live in Clinton Twp and The Clinton House was top of the list to visit. Appetizers: crab cake and portobello fries. Crab cake was excellent, all crab, no filler, loved the sauce. Portobello fries were fine, a little dry, but good sauce. Entrees: My husband got the French dip sandwich which I tried..it was okay. Definitely not bad but nothing special. Where the food really fell short was my entree. I got the shrimp and scallop risotto special. It came with two shrimp and "four" scallops, which was two scallops cut horizontally prior to cooking and seared. Scallops were complete rubber and tasted like ammonia, and the shrimp were extremely overcooked. The risotto itself was tasty and I would have it again, but for $40 it was not an acceptable dish. Our waitress was not rude, but not particularly friendly. We loved the vibe and decor of the restaurant, and other staff we interacted with were pleasant. I would not return here based on food quality and price point. I think the establishment is historic and beautiful, but could be improved greatly.

Turns out that CB has not fully undone the rebranding. You will see places where the logo no longer has an old man by the barrel. The triangle games at the tables no longer say "Four or more you're just plain ig-no-ra-moose." I miss that. They went PC. More importantly, a couple of things here I never encountered previously: someone to greet us as we walked in, the ability to pay from your table instead of up front, and a completely revamped menu. So, the menu has a lot of new dishes, a section with the old favorites - both for the mains and the sides - but I definitely did not have the comfort level here that I'm used to at a CB. Food? I'd say we're still where CB has always been. No change to my fried okra. They accidentally brought a second mac & cheese, let us keep it. They brought cornbread and biscuits while we waited (I asked), and then another bowl with the meal - let us keep it. Very nice! Cornbread still as addictive as ever, biscuits nice and soft. The mac is OK, maybe better if you upgrade with the bacon bits. My third side - I went up for onion petals, and those are mostly breading. Skip those, even if the dip was nice. Get the dip with something else. Too full for dessert, though they have ones I remember and new ones as I figured. The special seasonal lemonade - I think it was strawberry peach limeade - was interesting, the lime threw things a bit but I appreciated the "different" flavor and there was totally puree in there, strawberry seeds I could taste. That was . Verdict: Some things never change. Some things change. But the Barrel's still Crackin' to meet you.

The shrimp didn't even arrive with the meal. On top of that, it took over 35 minutes for our food to come out, which is unacceptable. We had to ask twice about the missing shrimp before anything was done. When we finally asked to speak to a manager, our server, Danielle B., rushed off and came back with the shrimp wrapped to-go. It was pretty clear that once the word "manager" was mentioned, she hurried to grab the shrimp instead of actually getting a manager. No manager ever came to the table, and there was no attempt to make the situation right. To make things worse, when we got back to our office across the street and opened the container, the shrimp we were given to-go was ice cold. Slow service, an incorrect order, missing items, and poor handling of the situation. Not a good experience.

We had a 7 PM reservation on a Wednesday night, and the place and parking lot were packed! Good sign to start! To begin, I enjoyed the Ruby grapefruit mocktail. Although I'd love trying new and unique cocktails at different establishments, I was in the mood for something light and refreshing and nonalcoholic. This hit just a spot. For food, we started off with the margherita pizza to share. Then, I opted for the crispy, buttermilk chicken sandwich with malt vinegar, potato wedges/fries. It was very delicious. The sandwich was crispy and fresh and the bun looked like it was handcrafted. The malt fries were unique because they had a vinegar powder on them. I've never tasted malt vinegar before, and it was a unique texture. Our waitress was very friendly, but I wish she had been a bit more attentive. She only stopped by to ask us for our drink order, our food order, and to give the check. My friends wanted to order more drinks, but because she did not come around as frequently as we would have liked, they were unable to place another order. I will give her the benefit of the doubt, however, because the restaurant was bustling from start to finish. Overall, very nice setting and meal. My partner ordered a burger rare, and I ordered the mushroom risotto. When the plates finally arrived, I was shocked. The rice in the risotto was completely undercooked, the dish was incredibly salty, and strangely, there were no mushrooms in it. Desperate for a proper meal, I sent it back, only for the same plate to come back two minutes later with raw mushrooms just thrown on top. I honestly thought it was a bad joke. I was so hungry I ended up just eating around the mushrooms, but it was deeply disappointing. As for the burger, it came out well done, the exact opposite of what was ordered. But again, we were too hungry to ask for it to be redone. Sadly, we will not be coming back. This was not just a bad meal, it felt like no one in the kitchen cared.
