I have been coming to this diner for years. I have truly enjoyed coming here when visiting family nearby, quite literally every time we come to town. The past few times we came over the past few years it seemed "off", but this time...I'm just sad. But before I get into the food thing, I want to address the service. We had to wait a few minutes for someone to wait on us at the bar since no one was attending it, but once they knew we were there, they checked on us, and it was good. So please don't get upset, it just may take someone a minute to see you there. The table service was impeccable, seriously wonderful table service...he didn't miss a beat. Now for the food: I suppose it depends on what you order, or maybe it's hit or miss these days? My Pastrami Reuben had super thick slices that were tough, making it hard to chew, and had no flavor. Members of my party had a chicken BLT and a burger, and both were ok flavor-wise, but very dry, making them hard to get through. Just taking a little bite of their sandwiches was enough for me. However, another member had flatbread, and it was fine. Fries were served cold and had zero flavor. We've had the same flavorless and tough food experiences the past few times we have eaten here over the past few years. The presentation is good, but once it hits the lips, mouth, and teeth, you get the real story. The beer is always cold though! The prices are fair, and the atmosphere is unique, although the toy train near the ceiling doesn't seem to be working anymore. Although I didn't get dessert this time, the desserts are normally good. There is more than ample parking, and depending on how you drive here, it can be a little tricky getting to. Follow the GPS if you aren't from around here. This diner is supposed to be the best 24-hour diner, and I'm not sure why. Again, service was wonderful, but if the food isn't always good or flavorful, then why? And for me as a customer, presentation is nice, but I care about the flavor and texture, otherwise...why bother? read more

I am typically satisfied with every food choice when ordering at Clinton Station Diner. Service was excellent, but I was disappointed in the chili con carne. It was very salty, no beans, no tomatoes. My Party Melt, always a hit, was cooked to perfection alongside the fresh-cut, homemade fries. Next time, I'll stick to the favorites that I know I will like. I bookmarked the Clinton Station Diner when I read about the eating challenges and how interesting the restaurant is, as a former train car. So when we were passing through, this was our lunch time break. No, I did not try and do any of their insane eating challenges. For Mrs. K. and us, this was a normal diner lunch. We don't have too many of these "we have everything" diners back home so it was a treat. Our waitress brought a burger to a neighboring table and it looked amazing. But I'd had a burger for dinner last night so I settled on a Reuben and switched it to turkey. What arrived a few minutes later was a MASSIVE plie of food. Toasted rye bread on the bottom, cole slaw in the middle and piled high with thick pieces of turkey breast and with melted Swiss cheese on top. Next to that, a pile of hand cut fries. Amazing. It was delicious, filling and fresh. A really awesome meal. And speaking of awesome, Sonia greeted us with a warm smile and an easy charm that instantly made the meal special. She anticipated our needs with quiet grace, never hovering but always appearing at just the right moment. Her genuine kindness and effortless professionalism turned a simple meal into a memorable experience. As well, a reasonably quiet seating area was most pleasant. Been stopping here for about 17 years, as I travel from New England to Pennsylvania. The food and service have fallen off considerably. I need to find a new place, I tried to continue to support, but my last visit on Easter Sunday broke me. Maybe I'll visit again in a few years, if I see better reviews and comments. Been here several times, as we use to pass it on our way north from New Jersey. Large diner with lots of seating. You can eat in the train car (room permitting). Large diner menu. All the food is delicious and plentiful. So many Dessert choices. Unfortunately, they give you so much food, I rarely have room. Service was very good and attentive. I hadn't been to the Clinton Station Diner in years, so it was great to go back. The place is unique with a semi-rustic feel, a rail car section, and one long showcase of desserts. In fact, I have been to diners around the country and have never seen this extensive of a menu. My girlfriend got a cheese steak with onions. The flavor was great and the roll was amazing though were fresh cut fries were cool. My Greek Omelette (feta, onion, tomato, and kalamata olives) was good but lacked a little flavor, oddly enough. My potatoes were cool and so was my rye toast. My iced coffee was fantastic as well as the really tasty fruit cup. Our server, Lexi, was absolutely amazing. She is kind and professional, as well as being a great listener. Right off Route 78, the diner is open 24-hours with a staff that never rests! read more

Went to CSD about 6 years ago and food and service was mediocre at best and never went back. Tonight we thought we would try it again as it was 9pm and all diners in the area are getting near closing time and CSD is open 24 hours. Big mistake. We walked into the diner and no one was there to greet us. We had to go find someone to seat us. We asked to go to a quieter part of the restaurant the sat in a booth. The table was extremely worn, missing stain and it was dirty. The waitress came over and her overall attitude was "I don't want to be here and I wanna go home". So you can tell what kind of service we were going to have. My wife ordered decaf coffee and I ordered iced tea. When her coffee came out it was like warm and tasted burnt. "Old Coffee" she now asked for regular coffee that came out colder than the first one. My iced tea was extremely cloudy and had a very weird taste to it but with some sweetener it was somewhat drinkable. We both ordered cheese omelettes ( one Swiss, one American cheese) rye toast and both came with home fries potatoes. Now the diner was not that busy at this time of night but we waited nearly 30 minutes for our food to arrive. Both were American cheese, rye toast was not toasted and pieces had no butter on them. There was no extra butter or jelly on the table. The waitress asked if my wife wanted hers made correctly and she said yes. Which took another 15 minutes. The bread which is all made in house was tasteless and old. The waitress told us she had problems with getting our bread through the toaster with a stick and that's why it wasn't toasted. The check was brought to our table and we brought it up to pay. The manager who was working the register barely looked at me, never asked how my meal was, which was smart on his part. I also don't believe he had a good grasp of the English language. I paid left a tip and walk out of CSD for the very last time. In NJ, if a diner can't get a basic like coffee right they're in trouble and this place is in trouble. From our view point the only thing it has going for it is the location but doesn't make it worth going to. Service was extremely poor, slow and uncaring. This diner definitely needs a major makeover... sitting in the " train" car has lots of chipped paint on the ceiling . The carpeting definitely needs to be replaced to say the least or maybe update with flooring now that it's 2026. The curtains are basically done. Now for the food. The portions are quite large which is a plus , but I feel the quality has gone downhill in the past five years. The fries weren't hot and rather dry. The Greek salad needed more "salad." Walked into this gem of a diner and were seated in an old fashioned vintage train car. Fully decorated for the holiday season, we just had to take pics. Service was very warm and attentive. Valerie was great. Food was great and wonderful portions. When I got the bfast platter I stated Taylor ham and found out I don't get a choice- I get all three meats. Local 24 hour diner with a cute train connected to the restaurant. We made it just in time for the early bird special which included soup and salad, a glass of wine and dessert with the entree. We all got the short ribs and they were nice and tender and served with a bed of potatoes and carrots. Service was a little slow but that may have been because the waitress seemed new. Definitely a nice visit with the kids. Which kid doesn't like trains? We came here because we wanted to charge our electric vehicle while dining. There were plenty of charging spots and regular spots. The dining in the train car is limited though, so it's first come first serve. There is a much bigger dining area in the restaurant but not part of the train car. I personally thought it was very cool that the train car is nearly 100 years old. Imagine the history that the train car witnessed. The food was decent, the fries could have been a bit crunchier. The payment is done at the front desk, which was fine. What was a bit weird was the tipping there was no percentage and it was only a dollar amount, so I guess it's best to calculate the amount before you're about to pay. So my wife and I decided to give CSD a try. First visit for us and the place is a very unique 24 hour x 7 days diner. We ordered a full stack Buttermilk Pancakes and side of sausages. The taste was excellent for both. But for my plate, the grill cook decided to 'hide their mistakes' under the top Pancakes. The middle pancake was. Issuing a big chunk and the bottom cake was very thin and also not a full circle. I bought it to waiters attention who had manager mark the meal down to a short stack, an .80 cents savings! Wow . I hurt my leg and needed a booth. The manager said I could not sit at the booth because it was dinner time. I needed it for tables of four people. So I said a small table and everybody hit my leg which was really hurting. I saw three other tables come in with two people and getting the table that I wanted with the booth. When I mentioned that to the manager on the way out, that wasn't nice and everybody else was sitting at the table and only with two people did a smile and laugh and thought it was so funny. I personally have never had a bad experience here. I prefer to NOT sit in the train car. I love a booth by the window in the main dining area. Some of the waiters/waitresses are friendlier than others but either way, service is always quick. If it's crowded in the lobby, have no fear. A table will likely open up shortly. On my most recent visit I had a BLT. The bacon was crispy and there was plenty of it. You have to get the Cajun waffle fries! They're the best! My husband got his usual: corned beef hash, extra well done and extra crispy with two eggs over medium. As you can see from the picture, it was cooked to order! My daughter got the cannoli waffle. Not the prettiest presentation but the cannoli filling is DELICIOUS! We shared banana pancakes. They're excellent here. Believe it or not, some diners stink at making pancakes. Shocking, I know. Quick breakfast stop - moldy bread, fries that were discolored from old grease and cross contamination between egg products from the griddle so they either don't pay attention or more likely don't clean the griddle properly. Expensive and crappy - I'll pass in the future. The waitstaff was very nice and not all surprised when we sent back the moldy bread. The checkout staff didn't even bother to ask if we were happy - with her sour face I have a feeling she already knew the answer. It's been about 15 years since my last visit to Clinton Station Diner. My wife and I decided to go as we both haven't been there together. We were seated in the train car and it was cold enough that most people kept their coats on. My wife got a bowl of matzoh ball soup and a Caesar salad. She said they were good. I decided to go with the meatloaf platter with baked potato and broccoli. The meatloaf was tough enough to need a knife to cut. They didn't offer butter for the potato. If we decide to go back, I'll probably stick with a burger. read more

They have TESLA Super Chargers here. So while waiting for our car to charge we had dinner. OMG!! Talk about large portions. We had fried calamari as an appetizer. I had the Texas Burger and my husband had the Rocky Mountain Burger. After the calamari we were almost full. We decided to eat all our fries and take the burgers home. What a disappointment. I remember when this was a great diner. That time has come and gone. The decor is old and worn. The front desk staff is cold and abrupt. The wait staff missed on simple requests and the food was not that great. Even a simple grilled cheese sandwich was a disappointment. It was served on thick bread that was barely buttered and only had 2 thin slices of cheese on it. The taste of the thick toast overwhelmed the taste of the cheese. Broccoli seemed like it came straight from the store not even chopped down and questionably cleaned. I did mention this to our server who kindly offered a free dessert in place of a $25 meal that was barely edible. It's a shame. The best 2 things about this place was the restaurant itself and our waitress. Very cool that they converted the old train car to be part of the diner - we sat there which made me super happy because my 2 year old loves trains!! And our waitress was a gem - she had lots of turtle charms etc and was showing them to my son who loved seeing it!! We loved her Food not so hot...i hate saying this but one of the worst French onion soups I've ever had, my kid wouldn't touch his chicken fingers after one bite (they weren't bad though!), and my husband who never leaves food left on his plate only ate half of his burger. My gyro was pretty good and the waitress was kind enough to bring me extra tzaziki sauce which was appreciated. My husband and I both had stomach pains that night though through the next day. I came to do the Atlas challenge twice and was denied twice. I had originally called to notify them in advance when I showed up they said that I had to do it between 8am-8pm. This was not mentioned at all over the phone or on the site. I confirmed with a manager that I don't need to notify in advance that day as well. I came back a week later and they said they were out of the bun and that I should notify them in advance. I'm not one to give bad reviews but I have driven over 2 hours for this burger and have nothing to show for it. read more

DINERS: SALAD BAR ALERT! After attending the Califon Car Show yesterday, we decided to dine at the Clinton Station for early dinner. The parking lot was full and there are 10 Tesla Electric charging stations along south rim. For travelers along Rt 78, great place to stop and grab a nice bite while recharging the vehicle. There is a bar area right inside the front entrance with a well appointed interior and a fireplace! We sat at a booth and noticed the salad bar on way in. That sealed our dinner choice to pick an entree that included that option because it looked fresh and variegated. The seafood paella appeared like a ladle of hot sauced seafood poured over some seasoned rice arrived hot with a nice amount of cold crabmeat on top. (?) $33.99. Definitely not the authentic paella I'm used to to. I enjoyed the huge mound of sliced turkey breast over the homemade stuffing, made of moist croutons/bread, full of dried cranberries, celery, apples, more . . . Yum! $21.99. And the REAL mashed potatoes were hot and creamy! Alison, our rockstar server, was attentive and pleasant. The waitstaff should familiarize themselves with contents of salad bar and menu items. I asked questions they couldn't answer. The menu is extensive and competitively priced with a daily specials' selection. Something for everyone's palate.
