I grew up in Spokane and Clinkerdagger's was always a go-to place for special occasions. At first, family birthdays and such, then we would have big work group holiday meals there, and it was also a great spot for date nights. Two nights ago, we had a special night to celebrate my love's birthday. This was an extra special outing as I've had some medical considerations and mobility issues and I'd been isolating for almost a year due to the COVID pandemic. It was our first time out of the house together since I was in a coma at the end of 2019. It was our first fancy dinner "out" experience since February 2020. We stayed the night at a honeymoon suite at the Davenport Tower, and we ordered carryout dinner from Clink's. They were the only downtown area restaurant that offered prime rib that night and we were looking for either a big rib eye, porterhouse, or prime rib style dinner. Churchill's was not open. The Davenport hotels did not offer prime rib other than a French Dip sandwich version, and Wild Sage was not open. By the time my love drove from the hotel through the snow to The Flour Mill and found the restaurant and returned to the room, about 40 minutes had passed. Our meal was a caesar salad, crab louis salad, and two full cut prime rib orders (medium rare). The bill (including a 5% = $6.95 carry out fee!) was $158.94. We also gave a $20 tip. The restaurant apparently charges a 5% carry out fee. I suspect this is to replace the "living wage" fee they charge on their regular menu to "offset the cost of Spokane's minimum wage." A handful of restaurants in Spokane choose to charge this mostly hidden fee as a way of protesting the increased WA State minimum wage. It's a political maneuver that guarantees benefit to the owner and actually hurts the staff who may get a lower tip to offset the costs of the fee. Anyway, we were so excited to have prime rib at our hotel room. But as I opened up the bags and started to pull containers out, I realized there were no utensils. How were we supposed to eat our food? My love went downstairs to see if the hotel could supply utensils for us. As he was gone, I called Clinkerdagger's and complained about the lack of utensils. I was told that a manager would call me back. After the call, I further discovered there were no napkins and no butter for the bread that had been packed in a separate box. I called my love to bring those items back to the room as well. He was able to secure steak knives and forks, and cloth napkins, but no butter. By the time we sat down to eat, another 20 minutes had passed and our food was pretty cold. That's when I discovered even more problems. There were shells in the crab meat of the salad. The shrimp and boiled egg in the salad were overcooked, tough, and rubbery. Super gross. The grilled salmon for the salad was also overcooked and dry. The bread was sans butter and cold and dry. There was no salt or pepper provided for either the salads or the meat and potatoes. The asparagus was thin and overcooked and some of it was so tough and stringy, I couldn't bite through the stems. The cuts of prime rib were supposed to be medium-rare. One was super rare and bloody. The other was super rare and about half of it was raw. I mean grayish pink, glistening, press the flat of the knife into it and the meat stayed depressed in place raw, raw, raw. The edge of both cuts of meat were very tough and gristly. The serrated steak knife had trouble cutting through parts of that edge. I tried chewing it and ended up spitting it out. The rest of the meat looked marbled but was also a bit gristly and tougher to cut and chew than any other prime rib I've ever had. Our hotel suite had a kitchenette (no utensils or plates though!) and I ended up microwaving the partially raw cut of prime rib so that I could eat it. Remember, this is a $49 cut of meat. Unforgiveable, right? Apparently the manager called back while we were eating, though I didn't realize I had a message until the following day. She said that the utensils were out on the counter for people to take since the restaurant has no way of knowing if people are taking it home or to a hotel. Basically, she said it was our own fault for not taking the utensils for ourselves. At the end she said something along the lines of: if I call her back maybe she could set us up with a free dessert. I was shocked by the lack of any appropriate sense of responsibility to satisfy patrons who spend almost a couple hundred dollars for a carry out meal. Especially when a 5% carry out fee is being added to the bill! For the kind of money we spent, I would be doing back flips and somersaults to rock your experience. I've tried to call the manager back twice but apparently the restaurant isn't open before dinner time. To be fair, she is unaware that anything was wrong beyond the lack of utensils. But I want to share this experience while it still fresh in my mind. I hope this is helpful to someone. read more

Went for anniversary. Booked a 6 pm reservation. Got there 15 mins early so sat at the bar and ordered a drink each. Bartender, older guy, was a complete D-bag. When he found out we were waiting for our reservation (that he wouldn't be getting our tips) became very rude. He made several snide remarks about maybe getting whatever's open to sit instead, and He actually clapped when we got up to go to our table, cheering that we left the bar seating. You would think somewhere where were dropping $200 to eat with a view that they would have more polite people working. Never left a food review before; that's how bad this guy was. We were passing through Spokane on a much needed vacay and stopped here when walking through river park. We were greeted like old friends and escorted to an outside table with a divine view. An umbrella was quickly moved to provide some shade and we had an unexpected 5 star dinner!! Highly recommend the beef tid bits and pea salad for appetizers and the salmon with cherries for dinner entree. My husband had the chicken and asparagus pasta which he only gave 4 stars and he'd have preferred more asparagus and the chicken was a little dry BUT the pasta had a wonderful sauce. In town with the wife for a concert across the street. We chose to sit outside. Our server (young bearded fellow) showed up promptly and took our drink order. While he was getting our drinks I decided we'd actually like to see the falls and raise our blinds. I guess I didn't put the opening lever back correctly so another server (heavy set brunette) came over and loudly sighed while putting it back. Our server came back with our drinks, beer and ice tea, and took our order. Typically I'm a rib eye guy. However they do not offer this cut. They have a filet mignon, New York, sirloin and prime rib. He said the most popular was prime rib so I tried it and the wife got a meatloaf Wellington. I ordered a ceaser salad and she got a French onion soup out first. A huge bowl of soup arrived followed by a tiny salad. Her soup was great but presentation was sloppy. May have been food runner sloshing it around on the way to the table. My salad was probably the worst I have ever had. Tiny underdressed with soggy croutons and parts of the green leafy lettuces turned black. After thinking about it for a moment I realized they had tosses an extra salad probably 40 minutes prior and just put it to the side for the next order they got. Nice and fresh. This is why the croutons were soggy and leaves turning black. I mentioned it to the waiter and he had it remade. It came out correct (even had cheese this time) and was pretty good. Dressing had some lemon juice or vinegar which lended the right amount of acidity. The entrees took a while. From the time I got my remade salad I'd say 20-25 minutes. We got to do some people watching. We saw server bringing out an incredible looking dinner bread, which we never received. We watched the sighing waitress from earlier mishandle a martini on the way to her table. She dumped out about a quarter of it. Didn't say anything and served it. Never saw a remade one go out. Hopefully they pour heavy!! Anyways our food finally comes. Wife's meat loaf Wellington was pretty good. Wrapped in Gouda then puff pastry. Only critique is it was just warm. Not hot. My prime rib was not very good. It has some seasonings on the outside but no crust like I am used to. I ordered it med rare. It came out cold with the main part med rare and the upper portion rare with a sinewy silverskin separating them. Also attached was a piece of solid fat. Maybe 3 inches by 4 inches. I admit the temperature is hard to get all of it the same. But that much fat may be a quality issue. Both entrees had Parmesan fingerling potatoes and a brussel sprout (undercooked) carrot medley. Upon our server suggestion we tried the key lime pie with lemon sorbet. The pie was actually pretty good. It had a ton of whipped cream on top, almost too much (is that even possible). But the lemon sorbet helped cut through that. So in summation great service, sub par food, long wait time and $125 bill for just 2 people =3 stars Ps manager dressed in green was awkward and then condescending to a table trying to figure out extra charges on their bill read more

We were really excited to be there at first. Especially considering they are a Landry's restaurant and we are club card holders. We were visiting the area and the outdoor seating on the river was lovely - this is why 2 stars over just one. However, it took a very long time to get our food and once it finally arrived the portions were small and unimpressive. We also then got swarmed by bees which was the cherry on top. We are fairly patient people and are also in the service industry so we are pretty forgiving. But when one of the dishes is a salad, the other 2 grilled fish and vegetables, 90+ minutes to wait for your entree is a long time, especially when you are dining with a child. Might I add we didn't sit down to eat until after 7, not a usual dinner rush time and they were posted to close at 9. What we could gather is the restaurant seemed to be prioritizing to go orders over customers that were actually in the restaurant to dine in. Apparently there was a special event/concert that was happening which if known about should have been better planned for. I feel bad that our waitress ended up getting the brunt of our frustrations, clearly management needs to do better in the way they are running the restaurant and kitchen. Hope they are able to learn from this, not be condescending to future patrons and nobody else has to experience the dissatisfaction we did. read more

I love Clinkerdagger's. It has always been a treat for a special occasion, the view of the Falls is amazing, and I have never been disappointed... until last Friday. I was part of a group of 6 for Happy Hour, sitting on the patio. Worst service and food EVER. We were left too long without menus. We were left too long without water (just 1 refill in 2 hours). Only 1 person was happy with their food. One gal ordered the fried oysters and had to send them back. They had been fried to a deep mahogany color and the oysters had been completely obliterated. Food service took too long. I got the Fish & Chips. The fries were undercooked and limp. The 2 fish fillets were so small they should have been labeled fish nuggets on the menu. But after sitting there for an hour, I was so hungry that I ate them anyway. I had requested extra tartar sauce, but didn't get it. I made do with ketchup. Another guest couldn't get the sandwich she wanted, had to settle for something else, and was served the poorest excuse for an iceberg wedge salad that I have ever seen. She didn't eat it. The waiter would occasionally stop by the table, but only ask 1 person if they were ready for another cocktail. I originally asked for a tumbler for my cocktail, and when I was finally given the opportunity to order another the waiter brought the wrong drink. One guest was overcharged for their HH cocktails. Maybe this was a one-off perfect storm of mistakes among multiple areas. Maybe food and service was back up to standard the following day. Maybe. But it will be a long time before I even consider going back. read more

Husband ordered 57.00 Ribeye steak that he could not eat it was so tuff. The Clinkerdagger is great! A colleague told me that this place is a Spokane gem, and that if I'm ever in the area, then I'll have to get the prime rib. This was a really tough pick because there were at least 7 things I wanted to try. Due to the recommendation, I went with the prime rib, and I didn't look back. The meat was perfectly cooked and the horseradish was amazing. I don't know how someone could give less than 5 stars... Great food, great service and a great view. We sat in the bar since we did not have reservations. We ordered a drink and then food. We waited for an hour and a half for our food. I watched 3 tables cycle thru customers that came after us. When one table cycled the third time I finally got the waitress to come over to our table. She checked and said our order was 5th in line. There is no excuse for this. Admit your error/mistake. When my husband got his food, the noodles were undercooked for his seafood fettuccine. My clam chowder and steak bites were fine. What an absolute disappointment in service. artichoke tartar sauce is heaven in a stainless steel souffle cup. i want a bottle of it to slather on a variety of seafood, breads, and possibly my body. deliciousness incarnate, and you can tell yourself it's healthy cuz there's artichoke all up in it. my fish and chips were but humble vehicles upon which artichoke tartar sauce could be spread or dunked. and what magnificent vehicles they were. the fish was fried perfectly and flaked apart as i dipped it into the tartar sauce. *grabs fork and searches for flakes in the souffle cup, fishing out meat and artichoke and immediately placing fork in mouth* the fries were just fine, but of course were transformed into amazingness once dunked into tartar sauce. drinks are reasonably priced and, according to my colleagues, delicious. beautiful view of the river outside. wait staff is friendly, efficient and humorous (or at least our wait staff was). definitely want to try other dishes upon a future visit. read more

Omg where do i begin?! Our dinner was delicious!! From the garlic butter coated bread to the warm artichoke dip everything was awesome!! I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone under 30. When we arrived, the hostess said she'd seat us shortly and then proceeded to help at least 3 other parties. We had a reservation made ahead of time and she still ignored us. This set the tone for the rest of the experience because unfortunately the customer service didn't improve at all that night. As a young 22 year old couple, we were excited for a night out to celebrate a recent college graduation but our experience was disappointing. Maybe we were judged for being a young couple at a fancy restaurant. We felt like we were treated as lower class and maybe that's because they expected us to spend less than an older demographic. The waiter only acknowledged us to take our order, but did nothing more and forgot to bring part of our dish out several times. We will not be returning. I've had better customer service at every other restaurant I've been to. read more

Nice restaurant in a very cool, old brick building. The building is shared by other businesses and restaurants. Clinkerdagger is in the back of the building overlooking the river. The entryway makes you feel like you're walking into an old timey speakeasy or something. There's a cool stained glass window as you come in that's very pretty. The big windows in the restaurant give a great view of the river. I sat at the bar to have my dinner. The bar area was a bit small, but the rest of the restaurant looked spacious. I know this is a steak and fish place, but I got the Wild Mushroom Ravioli and Braised Short Rib. It was great. There were plenty of ravioli on the plate, with a smallish piece of short rib. I'm not complaining about the short rib at all...it was delicious. But the ravioli and sauce are supposed to be the highlight of the dish. The sauce was rich and savory, with pieces of tomato and spinach in it. I'll be having cravings for this dish in the future. read more

We really loved having dinner here overlooking the beautiful river cascading upon the rocks. After dinner we took a walk to Riverside Park which was a lot of fun. I had the prime rib and it was excellent! I think they gave me 16 ounces for the price of 12. I couldn't believe how big it was! It was one of the best prime ribs I've ever had. I loved the cracked pepper rub and it had some salt with it which brought out the flavor. They give you what they call atomic horseradish. I loved it! Just go easy. My wife had the baby back ribs and I have to say they give you a full rack of ribs! We were disappointed that the ribs were a little dry and chewy. The sauce was really good. Our server was excellent. In fact I noticed that all of the staff seem to work extremely well as a team. The management at this restaurant, I feel puts together a really good crew. To start this has been a local favorite, but there are real concerns on the quality of service in the table bussing area. As I had dinner last evening I observed as many guest finished their meal, after they leave the busses or host would clear the table of plates, pull a dry rag outa their apron pocket and dry wipe the food onto the chairs and floor! Many seats were left with crumbs, with no attention given. Through out the meal waitress would bring us utensils and set them on the table. No napkin underneath, right on our presumably dirty table..... very inconsiderate. I hope they rectify this issue. No matter how good the food was it was served in a dirty environment, putting every customer at some unneeded risk. read more

Went on a Saturday night with a party of 13 for a birthday for our 89 year old mother . It was originally for 11 and they accommodated us last minute to change it. Service was great. We visited for the first time about a month ago and it was a mixed bag of opinions on the food. Two people got the prime rib and weren't very happy with it, both saying that it had an "off" flavor and was too tough. I had the haddock special and it was fabulous. The other two got dessert and I heard that the creme brûlée was fantastic and the key lime pie was okay. I'll give credit to the waitress for removing the prime rib from the bill and giving free desserts. We'll go back, but I doubt if anyone will order the prime rib next time. read more

It's like she's almost a mind reader for Pete's sake! The woman knows what you need before you even open your mouth. I digress. The food and drinks are absolutely DELISH! This is a great, longtime Spokane eatery with great views of the Spokane Falls. Eat outside to get the full effect and water in your face when it's really rolling! The food is great. Near the courthouse, a problem with the lunch crowd is it's dominated by lawyers and judges. Normal people come in at night, and it's worth it after-hours to come for just dessert! read more

Visited Clinkerdagger to celebrate my wife's birthday. In the vestibule, we had to duck an altercation between three homeless men, not promising. Once we got inside the mood shifted considerably. The views of Spokane River were mesmerizing and we were seated at a window overlooking the amazing view of Riverfront Park and Downtown behind the rushing river. We enjoyed the calamari appetizer with a bottle of champagne. We each ordered the prime rib. Mine, ordered medium rare, arrived raw. The wait staff quickly took it back while my wife enjoyed her birthday meal. A new plate came and everything was as it should be. the potato and asparagus sides were very good. We ordered dessert and coffee. The coffee came slightly warm. We had finished dessert by the time hot coffee finally arrived. The quality of the food was fine but the wait staff were not very attentive on this visit. We ran up a $400.00 bill, at that price one expects premium service. Oh well! read more

It was great until it wasn't. Used to live in Spokane and had fond memories of Clinkerdaggers, so while visiting decided to have a nice dinner out with husband and daughter. Host was awesome, seated us promptly, and we had a beautiful view of the river. Great so far. Waited 20 mins for waitress, when she shows up we order our drinks and appetizer, calamari. She then asks if we are ready to order and so we say yes, but please stagger the app with entrees. She asks do you want house bread, we say yes. So about 15 min later here comes our iced teas. Àbout 10 minutes later the calamari. 20 mins, 15 mins... We've been seated for an hour at this point. Another 15 mins and our waitress finally makes another appearance, my husband says that bread sounds good about right now...she quickly goes and gets the bread,says she'll check on the food, nothing. We're hungry they give us another round of bread...no food. Then it finally arrives. I ordered the seafood trio, it was cold and the scallops were underwhelming. My husband's steak was overcooked,and my daughter's fish and chips were soggy oily. Food I would give zero stars. I have had better seafood and steak at Outback Steakhouse, so sad. My husband sent his steak back, I should have sent mine back but didn't. I should have sent my daughter's back, but she was hungry. It took 20 minutes for them to refire my husband's steak, so he sat there without his food, while we had ours. Completely ruining our nice dinner out. We arrived at 5 pm. Left at 7:45 pm. They need an overhaul. New managers, new kitchen staff and completely retrain wait staff on how to be in the service industry. 75-100 per person requires much better service and actually hire a chef and not a guy from Applebee's. read more
