Extremely extremely extremely underwhelming for a $148 tab. The leisurely is an option where the entire table has to participate. They charge you $57 a person, and you share the meal. I felt as if our server should have told us immediately that this was a shared option, but even then to make every person pay $57 is nuts for the portion of food that you receive. We are content creator, so we happen to record every dish that we received. ( the leisurely) First thing they brought out was roasted nuts and marinated olives. (6/10). Some of the olives were hard, but the roasted nuts were pretty good. 2. My wife is allergic to shrimp so they were gonna bring out the grilled ponds but instead the chef decided to bring out brussels sprouts. (2/10). It was awful. I almost gagged legitimately, and my wife felt the same, the brussels sprouts also had a foul smell to them as if they were spoiled. - it was paired with the winter salad. In my opinion, that was the second best thing that they brought out. It was very rich in flavor,colorful as well. 3. They then brought out some pasta. Tagliatelle Pasta. This is the best thing that they brought out. The noodles were fresh and the meat choice ( roast) paired very well and it was mildly flavorful, enough to swing both ways but we'd say it swung in the right direction. I'd give it 8.5/10. 4. They then brought out steelhead trout with couscous and cauliflower with roasted carrots. - I think the audacity to give two full grown adults. A 1/3 portion of fish is quite literally disrespectful. It was so disrespectful until it just made me want to leave even more than I did whenever they brought out the brussels sprouts. The piece of fish itself was not seasoned, but it happened to pair slightly with the couscous and whatever sauce. It was quinoa actually.. (6.5/10) flavor wise. I hate really complaining about food, but this was so underwhelming.. that I may have contested the bill if my baby didn't poop out of his clothes during the visit. I will likely update this review with all of the photos once we upload the video just so everyone get an idea. ---- Overall, we would've been much happier, ordering individual dishes off the menu. I don't want to shit all over this place because I do believe it has potential, but I would not advise anyone to do the leisurely. The couple behind us actually didn't eat any of their food either and they apparently chose the same option and she was very upset so I'm glad that we weren't the only ones. I don't think we will return back to this restaurant. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either. read more

While staying in Spokane, a colleague recommended that I have dinner at this restaurant. I decided to visit on my own, and I'm glad I did -- the interior is beautifully lit with natural light and has a lovely, relaxing atmosphere. I was initially seated at the bar, but I would have preferred to sit at a table. It would be nice if solo diners had the option to choose a table as well. That said, the woman who assisted me was very pleasant and explained the menu clearly. I ordered the fresh oysters and the Campanelle. The food was delicious, especially the oysters, which were fresh and flavorful. Overall, I enjoyed the ambiance and the attentive service. Next time, I'd love to come back with a friend and enjoy a longer, more relaxed meal. read more

Bartender, Daniel I had a fantastic Pinot and crustini to tide me over till dinner I've become a fan of crustini It gives the chef the opportunity to be creative several different ways on a small scale, single plate. An extremely elegant and refined space where my table enjoyed the Marathon 6 course tasting menu. I've never had that experience before and it is certainly an interesting way of having a meal. Unfortunately I had just had a difficult day and wasn't planning to be at such a formal event so it wasn't the best time to be reviewing food. That said...the pate cube had enough flavor for an entire picnics worth of charcuterie, the smoked mussel was divine, and the rhubarb ice cream on almond financier was one of the most delicious perfect desserts I've ever eaten. A few patrons who were leaving told me on the street how amazing the food and sandwiches were, so my business partner and I decided to step in--and we were impressed beyond belief. I ordered the Hunger Steak and it was simply incredible. Every bite was perfectly prepared, full of flavor, and truly memorable. The ambience of the restaurant is warm, welcoming, and beautifully done--it's the kind of place where you can enjoy a business lunch or a relaxed meal with friends. What stood out just as much as the food was the service. Peter Froese, the owner, personally served us, and his hospitality made the entire experience even more special. Was visiting in town and wanted some fresh pasta. The photos on the website lured me in and I am so glad they did. Cozy and unpretentious atmosphere. Great service and most importantly AMAZING food. We started off with the Burrata plate and the grilled bread with herb butter and olive tapanade. SO GOOD. Our entrees were the Tagliatelle beef & pork ragu and the Linguine and Clam pasta.The fresh pasta was some of the best I have ever tasted. The sauces were so flavorful but light and well balanced. Gander & Ryegrass is a must dine when in Spokane! I was in town for only two nights and it was so good the first night that I had to return on my second night. The first night I had the Pan Fried Shrimp and Hanger Steak with Broccolini (instead of Fingerling Potatoes as I cannot eat potatoes) and Smoked Carrots. I had a Key Lime Pie Martini for dessert. The second night I had the pan fried shrimp again because it was so delicious the first night I kept thinking about the Shrimp the entire next day. I also had the House Made Spaghetti with added Sausage that was SO damn good! I loved the pasta was al dente and so flavorful. It was unlike ordering spaghetti anywhere else. I loved it so much that I ate it as slow as I could to enjoy every bite. But above and beyond the food was the stellar customer service and drinks made by Mixologist and Bar Manager, Justin. The entire staff was very friendly and accommodating, but the service and drinks made by Justin were above and beyond. I can't wait to return to Spokane solely to come back to Gander & Ryegrass. read more

It doesn't have to be a super expensive meal! I was wary about coming here from the reviews, but I took a chance and it was wonderful! You CAN do a 3 course or a 6 course, but you can also order everything a la carte to share. My husband and I got the risotto, the tagliatelle (with lamb and beef ragout), the butternut squash, and the fall salad, all to share! If you're not going to do the prefix options, then treat this place like a tapas spot. The portions are smaller than an average meal, but super delicious and worth it. Drinks were astounding as well. Nice. Balanced. Cool bartenders too. I totally recommend this place. Don't listen to the hater reviews or think you need to drop 400 dollars in a single night. read more

Absolutely loved our meal here!! We came in for a late lunch without reservations. Happy we were able to be seated! They have to go sandwiches you can order and they let you order them in as well. The food is really tasty. Two of us got the special sandwich and it was amazing with pork, bacon, a cream cheese and pepper spread. The side salad had a really refreshing dressing on it. It had sliced pork tenderloin and an aioli most people don't like a lot of bread and neither do I but for some reason, the soft fluffy bread went really well with this! My sister and I were supposed to go to the the Boys II Men concert, but due to the wildfires it was cancelled. We decided to not let the night go to waste and still spend a few hours without our kids. We had both been wanting to try Gander and Ryegrass and it was worth it! Service: Above and beyond. From the moment we walked in til the moment we left everything was taken care of. They carefully explained every dish and wine pairing we had, made sure our drinks were full, and we had all the silverware we needed. Food: We did the experience which included so many dishes I couldn't even post them all. Some where just bites, the pasta and steak a little larger, plus bread, dessert, and a pallet cleanser. Everything was new and interesting! It forced us to try new things and it was great! My favorite dishes were the steak and potato and the blue cheese sorbet. It was so interesting and took a couple bites, but dang! It's so good! We also really enjoyed the wine pairings that went along with it. Although, we looked a couple of them up and you get get some of the bottles for $14.99 - so, we may have been a little bamboozled, but again it was a great experience!! Went there for my birthday on a Monday 7 people in our party, only 1 other table of 2 in the restaurant. Service was extremely slow so we ordered our food immediately with the drinks. took 45 minutes to get a drink and when the drinks came mine was missing. Waiter an additional 15 minutes for it. When the entree's arrived one was missing. By the time the final meal was delivered the remaining party was eating dessert. They seemed oblivious the entire time. Never again. I could see it if they were busy. But when the entire staff is is in slow motion something is terribly wrong. read more

Wow, wow, wow. What a pleasant surprise and unbelievable dining experience. I was consistently reminded of watching the TV Show "Iron Chef" as each course of the Chef's Marathon was presented. Amazing flavors, artful plating, and knowledgable service on each course just built the whole experience into something magical. I had several Oh My God experiences, but I think a favorite was the duck liver mousse with the hazelnut surprise inside, The folks sitting next to us had opted for the half marathon, and by our reactions, I could tell they realized they should have gone all in. Beautiful wine list and unique and inventive craft cocktails. The full wine pairing was a bit too much alcohol for me (six 4 oz glasses), but my server artfully made accomodation for me and skillfully paired a couple of the courses with the perfect wine. The service was PERFECT, and I mean PERFECT. Everyone was very friendly and dedicated to presenting the restaurant in the best light consistent with the experience that defines the place. If you are a foodie, Gander and Ryegrass is NOT to be missed. As Arnold famously said, "I'll be back". Nicely done at the highest level. My wife and I had the Marathon for dinner. It was a Superlative experience. Our servers were attentive and at the same time unobtrusive. They seemed genuinely interested in my fascination with the complexity of each dish. The sommelier paired the dessert with an obscure French fortified wine that created an experience my palate never would have had without him.
