This is a nice restaurant located in downtown Spokane. The interior is gorgeous and sophisticated. It's candlelit and they have regal plush chairs at the tables. We came with a group of 12 and ordered most of the things on the menu. The wine and drink menu is hefty and the cocktails were well made. Food: I'd recommend the entrees over the pastas. The portions are small-to-medium and everything is plated gorgeously with seasonal produce. The standouts were the King Salmon ($48) - it was so soft buttery! and the appetizers (burrata is a must!). This is such an interesting place. From the moment you walk in, the curtains throughout the entrance give Gander & Ryegrass a little sense of mystery and really elevate the vibe. The dining room itself is beautiful--chic seating, a classic-meets-modern look, and a gorgeous tall bar. Definitely a space with personality. They offer a five-course tasting menu, which initially caught my attention. I tried to get a better idea of what was included since the menu doesn't really disclose the courses. I'm not sure if the ambiguity is intentional, but unfortunately my waiter didn't do a great job explaining it either, so I ultimately decided against it. I did watch the table next to me go through the tasting menu, and while I understand tasting-menu portions are naturally smaller, these looked particularly tiny to me. I wasn't super hungry anyway, so I kept things simple with the mushroom risotto and green salad. Both were delicious--the risotto was flavorful and well executed, while the salad tasted fresh and high quality. I also had the only rosé offered by the glass, an Oregon wine that happened to be well rated on Vivino, and really enjoyed it. Overall, a good experience. Everything I actually ate was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. The atmosphere is probably the biggest standout for me. I'd be curious to come back, and hopefully get a little more guidance on the tasting menu next time. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch bite - Pros - atmosphere was clean, industrial modern, just my style - 5 stars for Jared- friendly, personable and accommodating service from Jared the bartender. (Bonus points for providing a purse hanger for my bags!) - I really liked the menu here- nice variety of offerings that accommodates light eaters and hungry mungries. The foccocia sandwich was delicious (I had the eggplant one) but the bread was thicker than I'd like and the insides didn't stay in the sandwich after the first bite. I ended up eating the insides only. The broccolini had a lot of dressing. I liked the flavor but being a strong caesar, I'd recommend going lighter. Bonus: I got a sneak taste of their Bloody Mary and I definitely need to go back and get the full portion. Being house made, it tasted fresh, flavorful and nicely balanced. A rare find. My husband and I came here for the first time recently to celebrate a birthday and ended up both doing the marathon tasting menu. Holy moly! The food was incredible - seasonal, great flavor combos, and plated beautifully. Come hungry because by the 10th course, you'll still have 5 more! The small plates were some of my favorite bites and we added on the king salmon as an extra. My husband even had a caviar "bump" which he found delicious. We did not do the full wine pairing but I did have their rosé on the menu which was fantastic. We both left completely full and ready to come back again for HH/dinner, which we agreed we'll have to do on their cute outdoor patio. We were wandering around downtown Spokane looking a place to have a late-ish dinner and we found the treasure that is Gander & Ryegrass. We were hungry but not starving, and the menu accommodated our appetites easily. We ordered a grilled shrimp appetizer, a pair of autumn salads and housemade grilled bread with herbed butter and olive tapenade. The shrimp was Amazing! The flavor was like the one I have tried to create more than a few times at home without success. And the grilled bread with herbed butter and olive tapenade was a new experience. I never considered putting butter and tapenade on the same piece of bread. It was Fantastic! For dessert, we chose the orange mascarpone cannoli with espresso ice cream. It was light, delicious but not a giant sugar-bomb. The ice cream was espresso forward, but still smooth and delicious. Our waiter, Riland was wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly. While staying in Spokane, a colleague recommended that I have dinner at this restaurant. I decided to visit on my own, and I'm glad I did -- the interior is beautifully lit with natural light and has a lovely, relaxing atmosphere. I was initially seated at the bar, but I would have preferred to sit at a table. It would be nice if solo diners had the option to choose a table as well. That said, the woman who assisted me was very pleasant and explained the menu clearly. I ordered the fresh oysters and the Campanelle. The food was delicious, especially the oysters, which were fresh and flavorful. Overall, I enjoyed the ambiance and the attentive service. This is hands down the most spectacular bread I have ever "experienced" and I do mean experienced. Unbelievable. The oysters were amazing too. So so good I'm in town on a business trip and I felt completely comfortable sitting at the bar and having a nice glass of Pinot Grigio and fabulous appetizers. Extremely extremely extremely underwhelming for a $148 tab. The leisurely is an option where the entire table has to participate. They charge you $57 a person, and you share the meal. I felt as if our server should have told us immediately that this was a shared option, but even then to make every person pay $57 is nuts for the portion of food that you receive. We are content creator, so we happen to record every dish that we received. ( the leisurely) First thing they brought out was roasted nuts and marinated olives. (6/10). Some of the olives were hard, but the roasted nuts were pretty good. 2. My wife is allergic to shrimp so they were gonna bring out the grilled ponds but instead the chef decided to bring out brussels sprouts. (2/10). It was awful. I almost gagged legitimately, and my wife felt the same, the brussels sprouts also had a foul smell to them as if they were spoiled. - it was paired with the winter salad. In my opinion, that was the second best thing that they brought out. It was very rich in flavor,colorful as well. 3. They then brought out some pasta. Tagliatelle Pasta. This is the best thing that they brought out. The noodles were fresh and the meat choice ( roast) paired very well and it was mildly flavorful, enough to swing both ways but we'd say it swung in the right direction. I'd give it 8.5/10. 4. They then brought out steelhead trout with couscous and cauliflower with roasted carrots. - I think the audacity to give two full grown adults. A 1/3 portion of fish is quite literally disrespectful. It was so disrespectful until it just made me want to leave even more than I did whenever they brought out the brussels sprouts. The piece of fish itself was not seasoned, but it happened to pair slightly with the couscous and whatever sauce. It was quinoa actually.. (6.5/10) flavor wise. I hate really complaining about food, but this was so underwhelming.. that I may have contested the bill if my baby didn't poop out of his clothes during the visit. I will likely update this review with all of the photos once we upload the video just so everyone get an idea. ---- Overall, we would've been much happier, ordering individual dishes off the menu. I don't want to shit all over this place because I do believe it has potential, but I would not advise anyone to do the leisurely. The couple behind us actually didn't eat any of their food either and they apparently chose the same option and she was very upset so I'm glad that we weren't the only ones. I don't think we will return back to this restaurant. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either. read more

An extremely elegant and refined space where my table enjoyed the Marathon 6 course tasting menu. I've never had that experience before and it is certainly an interesting way of having a meal. Unfortunately I had just had a difficult day and wasn't planning to be at such a formal event so it wasn't the best time to be reviewing food. That said...the pate cube had enough flavor for an entire picnics worth of charcuterie, the smoked mussel was divine, and the rhubarb ice cream on almond financier was one of the most delicious perfect desserts I've ever eaten. Two table mates got the exceptional wine tasting and my boyfriend and I had Old Fashioned cocktails. The cola Old Fashioned was particularly delicious. A few patrons who were leaving told me on the street how amazing the food and sandwiches were, so my business partner and I decided to step in--and we were impressed beyond belief. I ordered the Hunger Steak and it was simply incredible. Every bite was perfectly prepared, full of flavor, and truly memorable. The ambience of the restaurant is warm, welcoming, and beautifully done--it's the kind of place where you can enjoy a business lunch or a relaxed meal with friends. What stood out just as much as the food was the service. Peter Froese, the owner, personally served us, and his hospitality made the entire experience even more special. It doesn't have to be a super expensive meal! I was wary about coming here from the reviews, but I took a chance and it was wonderful! You CAN do a 3 course or a 6 course, but you can also order everything a la carte to share. My husband and I got the risotto, the tagliatelle (with lamb and beef ragout), the butternut squash, and the fall salad, all to share! If you're not going to do the prefix options, then treat this place like a tapas spot. The portions are smaller than an average meal, but super delicious and worth it. Drinks were astounding as well. Gander & Ryegrass is a must dine when in Spokane! I was in town for only two nights and it was so good the first night that I had to return on my second night. The first night I had the Pan Fried Shrimp and Hanger Steak with Broccolini (instead of Fingerling Potatoes as I cannot eat potatoes) and Smoked Carrots. I had a Key Lime Pie Martini for dessert. The second night I had the pan fried shrimp again because it was so delicious the first night I kept thinking about the Shrimp the entire next day. I also had the House Made Spaghetti with added Sausage that was SO damn good! I loved the pasta was al dente and so flavorful. It was unlike ordering spaghetti anywhere else. I loved it so much that I ate it as slow as I could to enjoy every bite. But above and beyond the food was the stellar customer service and drinks made by Mixologist and Bar Manager, Justin. The entire staff was very friendly and accommodating, but the service and drinks made by Justin were above and beyond. My sister and I were supposed to go to the the Boys II Men concert, but due to the wildfires it was cancelled. We decided to not let the night go to waste and still spend a few hours without our kids. We had both been wanting to try Gander and Ryegrass and it was worth it! Service: Above and beyond. From the moment we walked in til the moment we left everything was taken care of. They carefully explained every dish and wine pairing we had, made sure our drinks were full, and we had all the silverware we needed. Food: We did the experience which included so many dishes I couldn't even post them all. Some where just bites, the pasta and steak a little larger, plus bread, dessert, and a pallet cleanser. Everything was new and interesting! It forced us to try new things and it was great! My favorite dishes were the steak and potato and the blue cheese sorbet. It was so interesting and took a couple bites, but dang! It's so good! We also really enjoyed the wine pairings that went along with it. Although, we looked a couple of them up and you get get some of the bottles for $14.99 - so, we may have been a little bamboozled, but again it was a great experience!! Ambiance: great location, comfortable setting, the chairs were really comfortable - straight backs which helped you sit up straight. The bar was also really cool! Absolutely loved our meal here!! We came in for a late lunch without reservations. Happy we were able to be seated! They have to go sandwiches you can order and they let you order them in as well. The food is really tasty. Two of us got the special sandwich and it was amazing with pork, bacon, a cream cheese and pepper spread. The side salad had a really refreshing dressing on it. The sandwiches are definitely the stars of this place! The other dish, Tuscan, was flavorful but not my favorite, I would not get it again. read more

It had sliced pork tenderloin and an aioli most people don't like a lot of bread and neither do I but for some reason, the soft fluffy bread went really well with this!
