I heard about Tavolata for a while, a popular Italian food chain. Some dishes hit, while some didn't really meet my expectations. What I ordered: Focaccia bread & butter: I like it, warm and soft bread with butter, classic Chicken & Ricotta Meatballs: My most favorite, super tender and juicy meatballs. Sauce also impressive. The whipped ricotta and tomato sauce made it super creamy and rich. Would order again and again Bucatini Carbonara: Probably a miss here. At first it felt very comforting, rich and fatty, but then mid dinner it became too heavy and a bit too salty. I couldn't finish my portion Tiramisu: Another miss here. It's a bit too sweet for me, I would prefer a lighter flavor. I also had a lemon cocktail paired with the meal. The space is cozy and lively, many families came here for dinner. Overall, solid spot, nothing too fancy. Would come back to try other dishes. read more

I was so impressed by my service tonight!! Our server (who I believe is named Chloe) deserves a major shout out! From menu tips to speedy service, she truly took care of us tonight. I felt so comfortable, and seeing the chefs in their fun Friday shirts was the highlight of my night! The energy was simply delightful. Thank you to the manager (I didn't catch his name) that I pulled aside to compliment the service, who also made us so comfortable and truly felt like well taken care of guests. On to the food! We decided to go with the restaurant week special, we started with gem salads, I got the rigatoni and my dining buddy got the spaghetti pomodoro I believe. I could truly taste the quality of the cooking that went into these dishes. Amazing portions. The food was delicious, but the service was a bit slow. The interior is beautiful. The food is a little pricey if you're getting something other than pasta. I was surprised that they didn't bring any bread to the table and I didn't notice on the menu that you could order it which did throw me off with being an Italian restaurant. read more

Marvellous experience, we went here after my daughter's graduation for a late lunch. Normally they dont open till 4pm but for Mothers Day they openned earlier. Had the Bucatini Carbonara which was delicious, reminded me of the one I had in Italy, for drinks I had grapefruit mimosa(more champagne than grapefruit) that made me a litte tipsy our server was all smiles and joked around, she also checked on us often. Once again, Tavolata gave me and my friends an incredible meal! Two of us had "The King" Rigatoni, with spicy sausage, homemade Rigatoni, a delicious red sauce (marinara?), and topped with a generous amount of Parmesiano Reggiano. The service was nice we were seated right away and both hostess and waiter were attentive, helpful, and overall good service. The vibe of the restaurant was great, the tables were seated fairly close to one another so it was a bit awkward at times. Lastly, the food was good. It came out hot which was a great bonus but I felt that the portion size for the appetizers were very small for the price. The entrees itself were nothing to drool over. If you are looking for just good Italian food in Spokane I would recommend this place but if you were looking for great authentic Italian I would definitely recommend looking somewhere else first. read more

The gnocchi are like fluffy little pasta pillows and their marinara is just delicious. During my most recent visit, I tried one of their mocktails. I Came during happy hour on a Tuesday and it was easy to grab a seat in the lounge. Place seem like a cool, hip spot. Being an avid foodie a friend in the neighborhood recommended checking this place out. Service was excellent, food was alright. I would of have rated this place 4 stars but the carpaccio was super salty and there was only 1 dish that really stood out to me - Conchigile Nero. I sat at the bar as a single person. They gave me just the right amount of attention. Attentive when I wanted it and left me alone when I didn't. The Tavolàta salad was excellent! Crisp, cold greens. The Calabrian chili vinaigrette had just a bit of kick to it, but was not overly spicy. The pistachios were a surprising foil to the greens; they worked well. The pecorino looked like a mountain but turned out to be the right amount to balance the bitter radicchio. The portion would have been fine for two people. My only complaint was that the greens could have been in smaller pieces; I had to knife and fork it. The ravioli dish was good, but had a few shortcomings. Presentation-wise, it was beautiful! The mustard greens, cheese, pasta, mushrooms, and sauce all went together well but it took a fair bit of cutting up and arranging to get them all on one bite. Personally, I think that pureeing the mustard greens and chopping up the mushrooms and adding them to the pasta filling would have made for a much better eating experience. The pasta itself was well-made and had a silky yet toothsome quality; my hat is off to the pasta maker! The carrots were more eye candy than something that added to the dish; they were very firm and didn't add much flavor-wise to the dish. Would I return? Yes! Came here on a Wednesday evening with my two kiddos. Reservations are available to make on their website, but we didn't have any as it was a spontaneous meal/outing. The hostess said the wait for dining was 1 hour, however there were spots in the happy hour section and we decided to go there. AMBIANCE: Located on the backside (river-side) of the mall. The vibe is cute, modern, and trendy! PARKING: Street metered parking is available if you are lucky. The mall does have a parking structure that you pay for time, but it can be a little pricey. SERVICE: The server who helped us was nice, but our overall dining experience was a disaster ): We waited 30 minutes for our 2 appetizers to come and 60 minutes in...we still didn't have our 3 pasta dishes. The server said it was "a mess" in the kitchen and it seemed like our order was second up. I kindly asked for to-go boxes and the check to help speed the process since my kiddos were beginning to get hangry and fussy. When we finally got our food, our order wasn't correct. We ordered 3 of the pastas (Spaghetti, Rigatoni, and Pappardelle), but got 2 rigatoni and 1 spaghetti. I tried to switch it out, but the server kindly advised against it due to the kitchen being "backed up." They also gave us our appetizers again boxed up. They ended up letting us take home the extra appetizers and comped 2 pastas, but this was such an awful experience for my family that we will no longer be returning. The server did mention that the Nutcracker had a show this evening leading to the influx of guests, but the restaurant looked maybe 70% full? Who am I to judge, but there seems to be some serious management/guidance that needs to be addressed in the kitchen especially so that they are better able to handle a "larger crowd." HAPPY HOUR: Daily from 4-6pm. Prices are about 2/3 the cost of regular menu. Unfortunately, the food also was not enjoyable. ): -TAVOLATA SALAD ($12): This salad has gem lettuce, Calabrian vinaigrette, red onion, mama lil's peppers, tomato, cucumber, pistachio, and pecorino. Man this was a salt bomb. Definitely has a little spice too! -BRUSCHETTA ($12): This comes with smoked fish, pickled onion, and aioli. A unique take on your usual bruschetta, our favorite dish of the night! -SPAGHETTI ($15): Your classic dish comes with tomato, basil, chicken & pork meatballs, and parmesan. Another extremely salty dish ): with mediocre flavor. -RIGATONI ($15): This comes with spicy sausage, tomato, marjoram, and parmesan. I am a major fan of Ethan Stowell restaurants and a very regular customer of Tavolata in Seattle. I was looking forward to trying Tavolata in Spokane for the first time and I have to say that I am disappointed. The music inside the restaurant was ridiculously loud and we had a reservation indoors and Really didn't desire to sit outside. We ended up doing so because it was so loud. A restaurant isn't just a place to eat food, it is also a social event. When you have to yell to speak to the people at the same table, it isn't a very good social event. We had a reservation for five people and the tables out on the patio were for four people so my wife and I were happy to, move the relatively light and easily tables outside, but we got stinky from a Tavolata staff member for doing so. The lasagna, my wife was served was more salt than lasagna. My steak was permeated with gristle. My espresso cocktail was good, but I'd appreciate an indication on the menu of the level of sweetness or a warning that it is more sweet than coffee. There were no heaters nor blankets and since we weren't planning to sit outdoors, it got somewhat chilly. This is probably one of the finer restaurants in Spokane, so it is a shame that it doesn't live up to what it should be. read more

This was my number one spot I wanted to revisit on this trip to Spokane. Service was amazing. Appetizers were great, we got the croquettes and carpaccio. All three main pasta entrees were over salted. Super disappointing. I ate two of my gnocchi alla Romana and had to stop. The kids (two college students) also said their pasta was over salted, they both got spicy rigatoni. They took it all back to their dorms hoping that throwing some jar pasta sauce will help reduce the salt and make it edible. It's been two years since we've been here. Hopefully things haven't gone downhill. read more

Came here earlier this month for a business dinner - had folks fly from Toronto and wanted to take them somewhere new and local. Service was phenomenal; our waitress did a great job of answering questions, taking our orders, and swinging by to ask if we needed refills on water or drinks. The drinks were great. I ordered flavored Moscow mules, the others got mixed drinks, and wine which all tasted great. The appetizers were also pretty good, not something "you must have" but delicious enough I'd order again if I was hungry and in the area. Giving this place 2.5 ish stars because of the entrees. I ordered the acorn squash ravioli. I love trying different and unusual dishes and so this was a must try. The ravioli was very Al dente and the flavor was not there. This place is definitely unique in its interior design. Big open seating, reflective mirrors, and a chic bar area with elegant high top tables and super comfortable lounge seating - perfect for a double date for drinks only. To sit in these seats and eat a full dinner may be difficult since the tables are more similar to low coffee tables. Nonetheless the lounge seating gives this place the quintessential Frazier vibe. We didn't have reservations so we sat at the end of the bar where all the drink action was happening. The waiter was mainly all business but did engage my partner in some light small talk. We stayed for drinks only. I ordered a syrah and my partner, a gin & tonic with the bartenders preferred gin - a Japanese brand he chose and my partner seemed to really enjoy it. Maybe next time we'll eat for dinner here and make the proper reservations. This restaurant is definitely a little black dresses dream in case you wonder what to wear. If you've got tables at the lounge seating near the bar, maybe ditch the dress and go for a black sweater & gold hoops. read more

I visited town from Seattle and just went to Italy , so maybe they are just the victim of extreme Italian comparisons. -the location is great -the server was awesome -the decor was great -the bread was good -the spaghetti sauce had no real flavor -the noodles were too thick and undercooked -the portion would be great for 2 people which would be awesome at Olive Garden but not for this place. The main thing is the basics have to be there. The real test of Italian food is the basics and it was an air ball. All they need is good food and they have everything else. read more

We visited for my friends birthday and had a wonderful evening. Katie was our server and she was an absolute sweetheart, very knowledgeable about the menu and just the right amount of attentiveness. The music was fun a 90's R&B throwback and very clean. I also appreciate the open kitchen you can't hide a dirty kitchen that way. The pasta was fresh and delicious you probably can't go wrong with mmuch of the choices but the Carbonara was unbelievable. Much better than the 3.7 on yelp. The pasta is phenomenal. I went here for two Christmas dinner parties . The happy hour is the best time go. The drinks and food are amazing. The pappardelle is amazing, the noodles are soft and you can tell that it's made in the restaurant. We also tried the salmon dish and that was very good. Not over cooked or dry , nice and flavor, especially with the olives. The bread is delicious and it's served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
