It's time for our annual trip to Spokane for my wife's immersion and if you follow my reviews at all, you know that my job on vacation is to coordinate the food. This evening we decided we would go to Sorella. A gorgeous photo of their focaccia brought us in. Since finishing chemo and radiation for my breast cancer, food has been an interesting experience for me, so when I want something, I go for it immediately. I will note, if you're interested in trying Sorella, BOOK A TABLE! We were able to snag seats at the bar, but even on a Tuesday, this place is in demand, and after enjoying our meal, I can see why. When we walked in, we were stunned. Beyond the natural light flooding into the roo,m there were gorgeous deep teal walls with a gallery wall and gold accents. The bar was adorned with gorgeous counter tops that had low lights, and a mix of velvety chairs gave it a soft luxe feel. The aroma of the food was lightly sprinkled throughout, and the décor were simply stunning. It would be a great place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, date night or just a casual moment with friends. A full menu is available at the bar and the staff was incredibly attentive - more details on our experience are below, after the food review. Now let's talk about what we ordered. We got the Focaccia (of course), Arancini, Dante's meatballs, the Cesare, the Limone and a Pasta Speciale. Focaccia - 10/10 I love when food tastes as good as it looks. The focaccia melted in my mouth and carried so much flavor on its own. The whipped brown butter was such an excellent addition and truly a masterpiece to add to it. I could have easily ordered two more (and I should have). Arancini - My rating 7/10, My wife's rating 9/10 The presentation was beautiful on this dish. My rating centers around my taste buds not aligning with the flavor profile, and not really knowing what to expect. I find myself preferring a stronger, almost cheesy flavor now, and this was a bit more subtle. My wife, however, fully enjoyed them and loved the flavor they carried even without the sauce. Dante's Meatballs 10/10 Spectacular, give me 12! These were so delicious, the meat was so flavorful and the sauce, WHEW the sauce was delicious. Yes, we did dip the focaccia in the sauce. Cesare - 10/10 I love a good salad, and Caesar is my favorite. At other restaurants, I find myself wanting more dressing or more flavor ,and I often feel like pieces of the salad are missed when preparing. This salad was dressed from end to end. We squeezed the lemon on top, and it sealed the deal. Every bite was fresh and had a slight crunch and crisp that was exactly what we were looking for. Limone - 10/10 When we looked at the menu, my wife glanced over and immediately knew what I was ordering, and after my first bite, I was so glad that I did. The execution of this dish was perfect. The noodles were thick and almost creamy alongside the butter, and there was the perfect balance with the parmigiana reggiano. When I order it again (because we will be back), I will definitely add prawns. Pasta Speciale - 8/10 I meant to snap a photo of the menu, but this was on the special menu. There were prawns, mornay, garlic, arugula and a few other things that I am forgetting. The prawns were incredibly fresh, as were the noodles, and the flavors blended very nicely in this dish. Lemonade - 10/10 The lemonade was delicious! I don't know that I've mentioned this on any of my reviews before, but I love lemonade and order it with every meal outside of breakfast. This lemonade was the perfect balance of tart and sweet. Limoncello - 10/10 We shared two of the housemade limoncello shots to go as we were checking out, and I wish I had recorded our reaction. The execution of the flavor was perfect, and it definitely packed a punch! Our server/bartender was Mary Katherine, and beyond being the sweetest, she was also incredibly knowledgable of the menu. As luck would have it, we ended up sitting next to the owner's family and got to chat with her amazing Mother throughout the night (who was kind enough to let her try some of her delicious lasagna) and ended up meeting the owner. Lauren, the owner, took a pause to talk to us, and it was so evident that she is truly such a brilliant and sweet soul. She radiates, and who she is as a person aligns exactly with how Sorella feels: ethereal. Overall, we had an amazing experience, from the ambiance to the service, the conversation at the bar, and the delicious food. This is a cool little spot. The decor is really fun in a gothic antique kind of way. While also being classy. It is tight inside, not a lot of space. Which normally would be cozy, but I wanted to feel less intimate with my neighbors on a date night with my husband. The service was fine. There when we needed, but didn't hover. The food: from the very thing I'd heard and how busy this place seems to be I expected perfection. I anticipated being blown away. Unfortunately, I wasn't. In my opinion it was just okay. The lasagna my husband got was okay, but pretty typical. The steak with the yellow chimichurri that I got was not good at all. My steak didn't have a lot of flavor on its own and I did not like the Chimichurri at all. It was quite the bummer. I'm glad we finally gave it a try. It was okay, but I can't say I'm in a rush to go back. read more

We had a big group dinner here with a set menu. The cocktails are lovely, I got some sort of spritz. Everything is really great but also HEAVY. On the set menu were: -Truffle Ricotta Toast -Lemon Pasta (Limone) - super lemony, pasta is obvously fresh -Vodka Pasta (All Vodka) - so cheesy and yummy -Steak - I love fatty so this was wonderful -Chicken Parm - Can't really go wrong with this one Staff were lovely. Mary and I celebrated our 45 anniversary here yesterday at dinner, our first visit. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated. There is a nice comfortable upscale feel. We started with a glass of Super Tuscan each, delicious. We had Stracciatella for an appetizer, which is delicious. Mary had the Chicken Parmesan, the portion was huge enough for two, also delicious. I had the Veal Milanese, I love breaded veal pan fried, this was outstanding, the veal was so tender and the breading lightly crisp, perfect, the vegies on top and the sauce put this over the top. We finished with Tiramisu which was outstanding. We both highly recommend you get in here and give it a try. read more

We selected Sorella for a group celebration. The ambiance and service were over the top, with a welcoming and attentive staff. We were seated with a view of the kitchen and our entire table commented on how organized, focused, and professional the entire crew was. The restaurant was 100% booked at our seating time, but the main chef and his staff were smiling and having fun! Impressive. It was amazing to watch the discipline and excellence of the main chef and his team. You could feel the energy as the Chef personally examined each dish before presentation to the customer. Oh heck yes!!! This restaurant is SO SO SO GOOD!!! Like yes please I will have that tonight and tomorrow and the next night! One of my extremely generous friends took me here and we had a feast! Sorella in Spokane Washington was an unexpected treat. It's a high quality Italian restaurant outside downtown that looks unassuming but speaks loudly when you enter to find a unique design anchored with crazy melted wax candles everywhere. It sets quite mood that turned out to be a great evening. We ate at the bar and the bartenders were lovely. They were as good at their craft as they are making you feel at home. The food was great but the cocktails even better. My first cocktail was An Italian in Paris (photo #4). It was a delicious gin recipe coupled with two different aperitifs and Green Chartreuse. It was deliciously complex. My second was Riot Act which is a spin on the classic Black Manhattan (photo #2). If a cocktail could be angry and fun at the same time it would be this recipe. The balance of rye, Cynar, Benedictine and Averna was bonkers. They threw in a little Demerara syrup for balance and it was fabulous. I will be recreating both of these at home because they were that good. We capped off our memorable evening with a little limoncello. Why not . Delicious and filling Italian dishes with romantic interior and kind staff. Ordered a sweet limoncello spritz and enjoyed the orange bitters gin/vodka martini. Dante's meatball were juicy with a bright red sauce. Loved the classic alla vodka pasta - saucy soft noodles + garlic forward. The veal was also very tender and bucatini was soft and buttery. Having been to Sorella a handful of times since my last review, it felt right to share an updated review and confirm that everything a year ago is still true. Their menu has evolved and as of recently, they brought the branzino back (thank you!) - but we still haven't had a dish we didn't like (and we've tried most!). Our go to order when we're bringing guests or having a splurge meal with friends is: the ricotta and meatballs to start (apps), the lemon and vodka pastas (be aware, the vodka pasta has heat!) or swap the risotto, and then the branzino and one of their parm dishes depending on how many are eating. Make sure to save room for an affogato at dessert! Hats off also to the wait staff and management team for making such a cozy but elevated spot - we've never had a bad experience at Sorerlla. read more

We had dinner at Sorella last night. It has always been consistent and very good but I was disappointed last night. The Limone Pasta was tasty but very soupy and cooled not warm. The bolognese was also cooled not warm. Sadly, the prices have also dramatically increased and the portions are smaller. Still yummy just not as consistent. The staff and service are excellent. I read that Sorella will be closed on weekends throughout the summer so staff can enjoy the summer. Kudos to the owner for putting staff first!!! read more

I would have liked to know so I'm letting others know, it's dark, very loud, and extremely crowded. Although I'm able bodied, it's notable that is not ADA friendly. The tables are extremely close together and it's very difficult to have a conversation when the place is packed. It's extremely overwhelming. The servers have to squeeze between the table. Although I liked and enjoyed the taste of ALL of our food, I personally found the pasta undercooked and was surprised that it wasn't hot. We had the carrots, bread, chicken, 2 pastas, and 2 drinks. It was all very, very good and I plan to return to try more things, but it was a very overwhelming place to me. I found the staff to be helpful when ordering and very kind. Our server noticed that I don't drink and brought me a virgin limoncello to try and that was so nice! They sat us on time and did not rush us out. read more

Went for our anniversary. Lots of hype about this place, and we were excited to try it. The ALL VODKA was a very nice dish, smooth with a nice spice. All the pastas were cooked perfectly al dente. Salads were also very delicious and recommend them both. The PARMIGIANA DI VITELLO and POLLO ALLA PARMIGIANA had huge portions, but my son and husband both thought the dishes were bland and nothing special. My husband's Old Fashioned was watered down. My (now) fiancé took me here to celebrate our anniversary and our engagement yesterday!! We loved the vibe of the restaurant with the beautiful gold frames, the perfect lighting, and the green/teal color wash! My friend Jackie & I like to try new restaurants so when we read all the favorable reviews, we decided to try Sorella in Kendall Yards. I wasn't surprised when we had to wait 3 weeks for a reservation & we thought wow we are going to have an epicurian delight. Well much to our disappointment the plates served were entirely different. Jackie ordered the wine so I didn't know that the bottle of Riesling, that can be purchased at Rite aid for between $10. & $15. Per bottle, Sorella'charge was $56., same bottle. But beyond cost, my veal Parmesan, was unseeable when it arrived because the plate was covered with sauce.When I stuck my fork into a piece what I thought was veal, it felt like a piece of wood. I don't need to say what I thought then because you know! Jackie's Asparagus Salad was a disaster. 3 or 4 sprigs of Asparagus, 4 pieces of mozzarella cheese, supposedly, without any taste whatsoever & "tons" of green beans. Fortunately our server was astute & reported this food diaster to the very nice female manager. She took away the 2 plates & our bill had the costs deducted. All in all it comes to a big disappointment for Jackie & I becaus5we skipped lunch to be sure that we had big appetite's for what we thought we were going to have, an epic delight. We came to Sorella for my wife's birthday after hearing great things and it definitely lives up to the hype. The vibe makes you feel like you're not even in Spokane and the staff is awesome. You can tell they love what they do. The food was full of flavor and our server Sarah went out of her way to make my wife feel celebrated and helped me pull off a surprise gift. We ordered the prawns appetizer and it was incredible and way more filling than expected since the prawns are huge. The crab orzo with grilled chicken was solid too. We'll be back to try more. The ambiance is lovely. Good wine, interesting cocktails, freshly made focaccia ( at $14/ serving -it should be) salads are tasty. But this restaurant is very pricey for inconsistent food. We've been twice now- didn't love it enough the first time but wanted to give it a second chance. The lemon pasta was divine the first time- but my carbonara was unflavored paste- I literally thought I had COVID and lost the ability to taste food but everyone else's food tasted good so that theory didn't hold up. This time I ordered the lemon pasta and instead of creamy, delightful and tasty it was a little bland and watery. The waitress "fixed it " by offering me more Parmesan to thicken it. I'd added prawns- they were nice. My companion ordered the veal parm- the tomato sauce wasn't amazing and the breading was a bit heavy. He wasn't impressed and didn't finish the dish. The risotto was just OK. Again, it's very pricey for just OK. The food isn't trash but if you've had great food you don't want to pay so much for just ok. We would rather spend the money at Luna or Francaise or Wooden City. Dessert was yummy. The first time we went we arrived first seating and it looked like the AARP theater crowd, the last night we went seemed like a galantine's preview! So if you're there for the drinks, appetizers and ambiance it's quite nice. I can't endorse it whole heartedly because the entree's weren't consistently good enough to give the full 5 stars. Tucked in Kendall Yards is a gem of a special occasion, chic, Italian restaurant. Step inside Sorella and be transported to Florence, Rome, or the Amalfi coast. You are definitely not in Spokane anymore. They have an outstanding bar and their wine selection is excellent. The food is divine, we started with the caprisi salad. I had their so delicious Lasagne, that if you don't come early enough they will have run out. My friend had the Veal Milanese another great choice. I don't think you can go wrong here on your choices and that's what makes it so difficult to choose. I wish I could say it was at least good. But I believe that it was overpriced and I really didn't enjoy my meal. We have no italian place like this in the area, you feel transported to a new place it's so cool. The service was amazing, on Valentine's Day they gave out roses and champagne when you walked in which was so special. Highly highly recommend. We went for a special celebration month or two ago. The service was top notch. But we both got very sick after and my husband threw up. For me it was the other way around. His veal parmesan breading was thick, wet and tasteless and his pasta was not even al dente - it was super undercooked. My duck was raw and squishy. I had to cut it into teeny pieces to eat any of it. I took it to go and threw it away. I should have said something but I struggle with complaining at restaurants and it was insanely busy. Our first visit to Sorella. Recommend by a friend. Had to make reservations a couple weeks in advance. Food was amazing. My wife and I ate family style as recommended. Ceasar salad to start was a perfect portion for two. Entrees were lasagne which was the best I've ever tasted by a mile and vitello Milanese (veal) which was equally delicious. Service was on spot. I recently visited Sorella for the first time after hearing from many friends and colleagues that this beautifully designed restaurant also has excellent food. My partner and I didn't have a reservation, but we came by at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday and were able to get seats at the bar. This place does fill up, so unless you're here early or are going to chance it, reservations are a must. The bar offers a fun place to enjoy a cocktail and a meal. There is plenty of room to eat as the bar is roomy. Upon sitting down, we were quickly greeted by the bartender who asked me if I was Danish. I'm not Danish, but I lived there while studying at the Copenhagen Business School, and just so happened to be wearing some daisy jewelry from a very famous Danish silversmith that I purchased while living there. The fact that she recognized the jewelry because she's Danish and usually is wearing her daisy jewelry too was the coolest way to start off our time here. Honestly, how often do you find connection with someone so quickly? It felt kismet as I don't regularly wear my daisy jewelry. For dinner we shared Dante's meatballs. It comes with three meatballs and lots of extra sauce so we also got some focaccia to dip in the extra marinara. The focaccia alone was a standout and the whipped brown butter was salty and sweet at the same time. I also had the Cesare salad for dinner with grilled chicken. The house made dressing and lemon zest elevated this dish to a whole other level. My partner wanted the lasagna, but by 6 pm, they were already sold out. If the lasagna is not perfect, they don't serve it, making it more limited. Perhaps another reason to get here early too! He ended up with the Bolognese and said it was really good. For all the dishes we enjoyed and a couple drinks, we spent about $120 with tax and tip. So, Sorella is also fairly affordable considering the incredible quality. read more

Meh. Food was just okay. Way too expensive for just okay food. Yea it's pretty inside. That's about it. The service? Well....my fiance wanted a mojito, I looked up and saw they had a full bar, I thought oh they could probably make one. I asked our server and she said "no, we can't do that" We kind of laughed it off, thinking it was kind of strange. Normally someone would say oh we don't have the mint or whatever was missing. So then we began to wonder was it they're just pretentious and only want to make the drinks in the menu or they just didn't want to make it for us. We thought this was strange again, not really the type of place I expect to see that. Then a few people down from us are asking about the different types of rum that are available. Their server is talking through all of their options. Sooooo...they have the rum for a mojito, there was mint in front of me at the bar... Now I know not being able to order a mojito is not a big deal, very first world problems. But it just was so odd. So I decided I was going to ask the manager as we left I said hi, for future reference, do you have a full bar? Yes. So you can do mixed drinks like a mojito or something? Yes. Okay, I was just asking because we asked for one and were simply told "no". He quickly jumped in and gave me some story about not having the "right" rum. Didn't have the white rum, ordered it but not delivered, so sorry etc etc. I said no problem, just curious if it was as an "us" issue or what. He apologized again. We laughed. I left. Once we got outside my fiance said you know he lied to you? I was confused, he reminded me of the customer a few seats down from us who was getting the rundown of all the rums they had available. So they did have it. Anyway, not really a big deal, not the end of the world. The food's not great, pretty simple, and after that whole weird exchange we won't be going back. Fabulous. Lauren (owner) has outdone herself with the menu and space of Sorella. Dishes are carefully and thoughtfully prepared and I enjoyed watching through their open kitchen. The star of the show for me was the spaghetti served with my eggplant parmigiana. House made and simply prepared with butter, I left eager to try the rest of the pasta on their menu. This was our first visit to Sorella as tables are somewhat difficult to reserve. (High demand) The ambiance at first walk in was impressive with gold framed paintings dominating the walls and low romantic lighting. We ordered some very impressive dishes but I will say that the glazed carrots were especially tasty! However, what made our night was true was the exceptional service from Issac and Elisha! I would come here every weekend just for the cute atmosphere. Green, gold and chic vintage italian inspired decor. So so cute! Skip the focaccia and go for the arancini. Cheesy rice and deep fried. What more can a girl ask for? I had the Alla vodka and added a meatball for protein. Think spicy Mac and cheese. Yum! My husband ordered the bolognese and it was phenomenal.
