We order from here a lot. 95% of the time they're awesome. Unfortunately new gal (Joey?) taking phone order was terrible. Short, somewhat rude, and didn't listen. First told me what we always order can't be done. I let her know we order it every time and haven't had a problem. Then, when she read back the order, she did it so fast you couldn't even hear what she said but I did catch "extra, extra, extra cheese". I told her NO! And walked through the order again, specifically telling her we did NOT want extra cheese at all. She told me "ya" and then hung up on me. Well, she charged us for 3x extra cheese. Sorry Pete's. We haven't been here for years and it was pretty disappointing. Three employees, chatting in the kitchen but eventually one came to take our order. We were the only people there. Nice guy, very friendly. We ordered a (new to us option) lite calzone and a small antipasta salad - and a beer. He poured the beer right away and we seated ourselves. Then we waited... and waited. It was taking so long that we were about to cancel our order, obtain a full refund, and leave. Just then he brought our food. The calzone was nearly burnt on the bottom but the top was pale white and not golden at all. It was soft and looked barely cooked. Definitely no crack to dig in and no steam from heat. The salad was ok with a ton of pepperoni and black olives. The dressing was their take on Italian and it was good. They usually make a great calzone. I ordered a king size tonight and it was terrible. Barely anything in it. The crust was weird. I also ordered the anti pasta salad. Disappointing. A container full of lettuce. Barely anything else. Seriously. I added stuff when I got home to make it worth eating. Would not order it again. I would have rather got a refund than eat it but I was already home. I am assuming they are either cutting down to save money or they need a new cook. .$40 for a calzone and a salad. Very solid place known apparently more for their calzones than pizza. It even says "King of Calzones" on the side of the building! Maybe it should be called Pete's Calzones and we also sell pizza. But I'll tell you they do calzones right. And judging from the number of people I saw ordering pizza they must be pretty good at that too. FOOD: I was craving pizza but it is so hard to find a good calzone. Haven't had a good one since I was a kid. Now I have. Usually the problem is the crust gets soggy. There's too much liquid inside and/or it becomes too greasy. But this calzone had a nice crust all the way through from end to end and in the middle! Not too thick and a nice amount of both cheese and meat in the center. Every bite had meat and cheese in it. The sauce was good but not great and wish the meatballs were a little bit more flavorful but to have such a good calzone was a treat. SERVICE: Excellent. They had made a mistake on my order but were quick to rectify it. Super nice about it too. The wait is a bit long but that's what it takes to make it right so call ahead of time. Would have been good to include a knife and fork with it because it's too big to pick up. COST: About $13 for a calzone and worth it. read more

Stopped in while passing through Spokane on our way to Missoula, MT. Saw it, checked reviews on Yelp, and decided to give it a try! We were so glad we did! They have their own private parking lot. We had our dogs with us and wanted to park in a place where we could keep an eye on them while dining inside...this was the perfect place! The staff was very friendly and helpful, since this was our first time here. The dining area was clean and decor was nice. There are no booths, just tables and chairs. Not the most comfortable, but decent enough to grab a bite and not hang out too long. You order at the counter, get a number, and they bring it to you. We were forewarned the pizzas/calzones take about 20 minutes...30 when it gets busy and the oven is backed up. We ordered the Verona and Hawaiian 'lite' calzones. They were absolutely delicious! Just the right amount of crust and toppings. Too many times I've had a calzone that had WAY more crust/dough than toppings. These were perfect! This is the Pete's our family likes the best. It is more relaxed than the one by Gonzaga. They are also very conscious of health guidelines for those who that may matter to. We always do their build your own option for the calzones. My daughter's boyfriend prefers bbq sauce over marinara on foods like this, and I think he just found his new fave place lol. I'm sure that it's been mentioned before, but it is always best to call them and order everything about 30 mins before you expect to get there. Feeling hopeless after being told that they will not make any calazones because they are training new guys for the next 2 years, I called the next Pete's Pizza. So I am giving it four stars because I tried to call in my order so I didn't have to wait and the phone kept disconnecting as soon as it was answered. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time. So I gave it a try today because of the Tuesday special which is any calzone for $9.95 plus $3 if you want the king size. We ordered the original and the monthly special which was a ranchero, great calzones. We did get the full size for both, which is a great portion. This place has loyal customers that I'm guessing comes out every Tuesday. I watched over and over customers come through the door and the staff knew exactly what they wanted before they even got to the counter. I know others have commented on this as well that it's called Pete's Pizza, however, they are the calzone King and offer very few pizzas, don't hold it against them lol. Staff...the guy who was putting the orders together was so smiley. I have mixed feelings about the cashier that took my order because I am not totally convinced that they were not just hanging up on calls, because honestly her response didn't seem genuine. read more

Love this place. The staff are always friendly, both on the phone and in person. Since the calzones take a bit to cook we always call our order in. I've been coming to this location for as long as I can remember and have never ordered anything but calzones. I hear the pizza is also good but can't speak to that. Went here to get a pickup order and I was a few minutes early so I didn't mind waiting. During the wait I saw one of the cooks wipe her hands on her shirt, pick at various parts of her face and then start picking at her eyelashes. I can only assume she is the one that boxed up my food. We're new in the area and we decided to try a few of the pizza places. If you've never had good pizza before you might consider this to be decent. If you've ever had good pizza this is definitely something you won't like. One step above frozen pizza. It's extremely apparent that the owners have never had good pizza and don't take pride in the quality of their pizza. We didn't try the calzones. The customer service was below par as well. It was a carry out order and the cashier told me that I needed to sign the merchant copy of the receipt. I'm up for another chance for some places after a lesser experience, so here I am at Pete's nine years later. Again, not my fave Calzone in the metro (they have sort of a pita-meets-pasty quality), but they're still a solid sender for flavor. Nice to see that some toppings no longer have a 'premium'--and more expensive--distinction. In fact, menu prices are pretty reasonable for 2019. And it seems there's been some demo/remo work in the dining area since our last visit. It's cleaner, brighter, and more open. Ladies working there were very friendly and helpful; and, it was neat to hear their happy banter taking orders at the counter and cooking up 'Zones in the kitchen. Location-wise, it's still a bear to get to heading southeast on NW Blvd with the traffic and median barrier, but it's more than worth the backtrack needed to get settled in. And, as locals will tell you, it's best to check out their online menu and call in your order if in a time crunch. I won't wait as long to visit them again. Ordered a full size calzone. Was plenty for dinner and half left over for lunch the next day! The calzone itself was okay - the crust was thick enough but not too thick, and was cooked thoroughly without being burned. However, very scanty fillings!! Plenty of cheese but the other ingredients were virtually non-existent. Supposed to have chicken, among other things, and literally found one extremely small piece of chicken. So very disappointing in that regard. Although I wouldn't consider the calzone itself to be high priced, the lack of advertised fillings make it very overpriced for what you get. Lower your expectations and you will be more likely to enjoy. read more

I had a calzone from Pete's several days ago and I cannot stop thinking about it and when I can go back for another! Truly! On an impulse, stopped by this perfect little pizza place with my dad for a calzone. Ordered the Pete's Combo on special and it was absolutely delicious! Tons of meats and cheese inside a good sized calzone. Keep in mind, there is a wait for the calzones...they make everything when you order and boy, is it worth the wait! I went there for the first time recently in order one of their calzones with sausage and something else. The best thing I noticed was that while eating it, it did not leave a big greasy puddle at the bottom of my plate so it felt healthier and fresher to eat. I might have been hoping for a slightly larger portion but maybe I got the small size. Overall They got it to me and under 10 minutes and the staff was really friendly and everyone looked clean and well dressed and I got an overall good feeling about the place. Called the NW Blvd restaurant at 6pm and placed an order to go. Was told the pizza and calzone would be ready in 30mins. When we got there, the lady said it wouldn't be too much longer after we had paid. Well that was a big lie cause we didn't get our food till after 7pm. Why bother calling ahead and placing an order for pickup if we were going to wait another 30 mins. Seems like they started cooking our food when we got there instead of it been ready. God your food is good! While I ate these calzones like the world was ending during my pregnancy 7 years ago, we finally shared our love of these with our children for the first time tonight. The oldest was actually mad at us for not bringing these into his life earlier. We ordered 3 full size calzones and that fed our family of 4 with plenty of leftovers. If you're in a hurry call ahead as they take a little time to bake so we ordered ours ahead of time and picked them up. The crust is perfectly twirled and baked to perfection, crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. Whatever toppings you pick you can't go wrong. Their sauce perfectly highlights the toppings. I promise you'll love the mozzarella flood that leaks out when you first cut into one of these bad boys, after all, they aren't called The Calzone King for nothing. read more

Really disappointed with our meal here tonight. I ordered food to go for a bday party, I spent over $150 (3 large salads, 7 calzones, and 2 kids pizzas) and we were so disappointed. The pics show crisp filled calzones but ours were completely flat, wet and soggy (and it wasn't that they got soggy on the drive, we live less than 5 min away) with almost no cheese. The $10 large salads were so small you could see the bottom of the to go container, and we weren't even given any dressing and had to go back for it. We used to go here all the time and we recently moved back to town and were really excited for it, but unfortunately it just wasn't what it used to be. Complete waste of money. read more

I am originally from Spokane and grew up coming to this place with my family to get calizones! While visiting Spokane this past week, I stopped in to order a pizza. I had the greatest encounter with a worker named John. He was so friendly and wanted to make sure my pizza was perfect! I am very observant person, and while waiting for my pizza, i noticed his conversations with other customers as well. Mmm...best calzone I've ever had. (Buster, if you read this, yours is the BEST CALZONE in California!) My gigantic (I didn't order it that big, it arrived that way) calzone was loaded with garlicky sauce, ricotta cheese, and italian sausage. So good! The only word of advice I have is to call and place your order ahead. While friend and I were waiting for ours, we noticed people leaving after walking up to the counter.
