Antipasto Salad
Conni M.

We haven't been here for years and it was pretty disappointing. Three employees, chatting in the kitchen but eventually one came to take our order. We were the only people there. Nice guy, very friendly. We ordered a (new to us option) lite calzone and a small antipasta salad - and a beer. He poured the beer right away and we seated ourselves. Then we waited... and waited. It was taking so long that we were about to cancel our order, obtain a full refund, and leave. Just then he brought our food. The calzone was nearly burnt on the bottom but the top was pale white and not golden at all. It was soft and looked barely cooked. Definitely no crack to dig in and no steam from heat. The salad was ok with a ton of pepperoni and black olives. The dressing was their take on Italian and it was good. Sad to find things had changed because we were big fans while we were at GU.

A very flat empty calzone unless you consider sauce a topping.

They usually make a great calzone. I ordered a king size tonight and it was terrible. Barely anything in it. The crust was weird. I also ordered the anti pasta salad. Disappointing. A container full of lettuce. Barely anything else. Seriously. I added stuff when I got home to make it worth eating. Would not order it again. I would have rather got a refund than eat it but I was already home. I am assuming they are either cutting down to save money or they need a new cook. .$40 for a calzone and a salad. I am just done with them.

Very solid place known apparently more for their calzones than pizza. It even says "King of Calzones" on the side of the building! Maybe it should be called Pete's Calzones and we also sell pizza. But I'll tell you they do calzones right. And judging from the number of people I saw ordering pizza they must be pretty good at that too. FOOD: I was craving pizza but it is so hard to find a good calzone. Haven't had a good one since I was a kid. Now I have. Usually the problem is the crust gets soggy. There's too much liquid inside and/or it becomes too greasy. But this calzone had a nice crust all the way through from end to end and in the middle! Not too thick and a nice amount of both cheese and meat in the center. Every bite had meat and cheese in it. The sauce was good but not great and wish the meatballs were a little bit more flavorful but to have such a good calzone was a treat. SERVICE: Excellent. They had made a mistake on my order but were quick to rectify it. Super nice about it too. The wait is a bit long but that's what it takes to make it right so call ahead of time. Would have been good to include a knife and fork with it because it's too big to pick up. COST: About $13 for a calzone and worth it.

Stopped in while passing through Spokane on our way to Missoula, MT. Saw it, checked reviews on Yelp, and decided to give it a try! We were so glad we did! They have their own private parking lot. We had our dogs with us and wanted to park in a place where we could keep an eye on them while dining inside...this was the perfect place! The staff was very friendly and helpful, since this was our first time here. The dining area was clean and decor was nice. There are no booths, just tables and chairs. Not the most comfortable, but decent enough to grab a bite and not hang out too long. You order at the counter, get a number, and they bring it to you. We were forewarned the pizzas/calzones take about 20 minutes...30 when it gets busy and the oven is backed up. We ordered the Verona and Hawaiian 'lite' calzones. They were absolutely delicious! Just the right amount of crust and toppings. Too many times I've had a calzone that had WAY more crust/dough than toppings. These were perfect! If we're ever in the area, we'll definitely stop in here again! Highly recommend!

This is the Pete's our family likes the best. It is more relaxed than the one by Gonzaga. They are also very conscious of health guidelines for those who that may matter to. We always do their build your own option for the calzones. My daughter's boyfriend prefers bbq sauce over marinara on foods like this, and I think he just found his new fave place lol. I'm sure that it's been mentioned before, but it is always best to call them and order everything about 30 mins before you expect to get there. You walk in, sit down, and lunch is at your table in moments. I've always wondered why this place isn't called Pete's Calzones? That's what they are known for right?

I love Pete's pizza. It's been around forever for a reason. He's the calzone king. Order at the counter they make your calzone and you sit and enjoy a classic. Portions and prices are great. I split a salad and a zone last night and we still had leftovers.

Yummy

Being an 80s kid, we used to say 'bad', but it actually meant 'good'. "That haircut is so bad" was…read moreactually a compliment. To avoid confusion, 'bad' turned to 'rad' (short for radical). Goat used to be bad...if a kid was the goat on the team, he was the worst player. Now, goat has turned to 'Greatest of all time' due to the acronym G.O.A.T. So when we went to dine at The Flying Goat in Spokane, the question on my mind is...will it be 2000's GOAT, or 1980's goat? The interior was pretty small but a unique layout of tables. I liked the darkness of the restaurant and the darker wood they use for accents and the bar. They also have a larger patio that is adorned with space heaters, umbrellas, and a wooden shady overhang...so no matter the weather you may be able to enjoy your meal outdoors. They also have a private event building that can seat a party. Our server was attentive and helpful. We did get there right when they opened for lunch, but that doesn't always equate to good and special attention. We ordered two of their artisan pizzas for our table of 3. The 'Fairview' was a must order and a huge hit. It used a heavy cream base and a house cheese blend. The toppings were house back bacon, gorgonzola sprinkles and pears...yes pears, which made this sucker pop! We also ordered a Lacrosse pizza- olive oil, fresh mozz, red peppers, italian sausage, pecorino and basil. This pizza was really light but packed a flavor punch as well. They have many other specialty pizzas on their menu that also sound amazing, ranging from yellow curry based to ones with snap peas, fried eggs, carrots and more. If artisan pizzas aren't your jam, they have sandwiches, salads, stews and more. To answer my original question...this place is the 2000s Goat...or very close to GOAT. Not my favorite all-time pizza place, but definitely in contention! Thanks Flying Goat for an amazing lunch!

However, last time I ate there, the waiter messed up my order, when I asked for vegan cheese instead of regular on my sandwich, he gave me a slice of vegan cheese on my plate. I had orginally said I wanted t he cheesesteak, but then I corrected myself and said, I meant the turkey melt. I ended up with the cheesesteak, but I didn't say anything because I felt bad as I had originally messed up the order. Anyway, the cheesesteak didn't come with any cheese, so when I asked him for it, he brought me a slice of cheese on the side of my plate. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the cheese be in the sandwich? We also were sat outside on the patio, which was fine, but chilly. When I asked if they could turn on the fireplace, they said it doesn't work. Why do you have a fireplace outside if it doesn't work? Anyway, our service was lackluster. The food was still pretty good, but my French fries were awful.

It truly added a romantic charm to our date night. The restaurant is done in wood with clean lines. Now let's talk about the goods. The menu is the perfect size. We found many dishes we wanted to try but knew we weren't hungry enough to order them all today. We were told the gorgonzola fries are a must. I'll clarify by saying they are crucial. Yes. Crucial enough to be ordered at every meal. So either as an appetizer or with your meal. The waffle fries do an excellent job at being the carrier of all the cheesy goodness. They were crisp and so flavorful. I now call these "High Five Fries" because that's what I felt like doing after every bite. Next was the beet salad. I'm still digging beets everywhere I eat. These were lovely. Both red and gold, tossed with this delicious citrus dressing on a perfect bed of greens. The bourbon soaked cherries were so divine. They added a pop to my salad I never knew I needed. We decided by having salads we of course saved room for dessert. The beignet dessert was the chosen one and it felt like getting powdered up for a fancy night at the opera. I can't sing enough praises over the chewy fried dough texture, the perfect mess of powder sugar all over our table, the sauce on the plate and the jam to dip. We literally ate them all. I think even Cafe du Monde in NOLA would give a chef kiss. Our server was friendly and checked back often. Our food came up so fast....even during the busy 6pm hour. What a beautiful place. We will be back to try that tofu dish soon and hopefully some Creme Brule next.

Points for being different and delicious, but the calamari was small and you don't get very much. I liked the slaw. Lots of slaw, little calamari. The sandwich was great, the bread was thick too so I'm glad I put the extra thousand island. I also ordered the loaded potato salad and the chipotle pasta salad. The chipotle pasta salad was flavorless and just honestly kind of weird. Wouldn't order again and I threw it away. The potato salad was very thick chunks of potatoes and very little salt or flavor, very different than what I had imagined from the description on their menu. It wasn't horrible though and I finished about half. Also would not order this again. Customer service and the Ruben are the reason for the 4 stars, if customer service wasn't good then I would've given 3 stars due to the sides not being good.
