Went in, ordered a beer with 2 other people and asked for a menu. Was told thr kitchen was closed, which is fine. About 40 minutes later a table of 6 walks in and about 20 minutes after that they have food!! So when I asked the waitress why they had food and I was told the kitchen was closed she told me that they offered to buy the cook a beer if he would cook for them!!! Ummm ok, but if you open the kitchen for 1 table dont you think that you should offer the table that asked for menus food as well? When speaking with the owner regarding the situation we were met with finger pointing and excuses and told had WE offered to buy the cook a beer he would have cooked for us as well. I come here because I love their spicy chicken wrap. It's always good, even when I order via carry out. I'm a local and appreciate good spots to eat and drink nearby; however, the service here is just not good. In all the times I've been here, it never has been. The servers seem annoyed or maybe just overworked. I was going to order a second drink, but they're incredibly overpriced and frankly, I don't have another half hour to wait. I can't avoid Cleary's because it's one of a few local places, but I'm hoping this review may encourage them to staff appropriately and hire happy, friendly people. The one person who has been consistently friendly is the bartender who works most week nights. Maybe next time, I'll just sit at the bar. read more

We ordered a Cleary's burger, fish and chips and Reuben. Everything was so incredibly, phenomenally good.

Based only on our first Cleary's experience, we absolutely love this place. I will update after additional visits, but I'm really hoping it wasn't just a fluke. Service was great. Waitress was polite, fast, attentive, checked in on us, got the bill quickly, etc etc. The food was delicious. I can only comment on the smoked-chicken salad and it was spectacular. Prices were fair and the location is great. The decor was interesting (it was nice to see the vintage Howell photos). We'll definitely return. read more

Cleary's has always been okay - I dislike the fact that they put normal ground-beef based chili on their Burritos and label it a "wet burrito" - sacrilege! For the most part, the food is edible, albeit bland and unsatisfying. It is a bar, after all. read more

Where to start? Lobster Mac was good. I ordered wings in a bar. I expected at least a decent meal. The wings were straight out of the cooler and tossed in a warm sauce. The chicken was cold to the bone, back to the kitchen they went. The replacement Reuben was good. Ordered two Bloody Mary, first came in a small old fashion glass no garnish, the second came in a tall drinking glass with three olives, a pickle, and celery all floating in the glass. Since it is unlikely we will ever return as we were passing through, If we were local, we might give it another chance based on the Lobster Mac. $50 tab and food sent back, there must be better place in town to eat. read more

We love Cleary's. It isn't the best food or anything, but it's decent food. This is just a GREAT neighborhood bar. The drinks are strong, we love the staff (sit at the bar), and the building itself has a ton of character. Awesome place inside typical Irish pub, havent been in one of those in a while. We didnt eat, service was a little slow but the atmosphere was perfect and the AC blastin which was excellent considering today's hot weather! Had 2 beers and 2 top shelf shots, $16. Not what we expected! We were looking for something close to the Howell Theatre and were in quite a bit of a rush. Both my husband and I had Delmonico steaks and were blown away by the flavor. If you're looking for a place with excellent burgers & fries, this is it!! French fries are like a double fried batter & extra crunchy! Burgers taste like frozen beef patties, which I normally would hate, but they seem to be able to transform them into something amazing, with toasted buttered buns, a charbroiled tasting patty, fresh crispy lettuce and onions, along with thick cut dill pickles. Monday is 1/2 price pizza night. We had an Xlarge pizza covered in yummy toppings for $8! We really enjoy the garlic butter parmesan crust dipped in ranch dressing...yum! Their fried fish (all you can eat) on Friday is always good, beer is a wee bit high at $12 a pitcher. We've never had a bad meal here. Give it a try! read more

I always get their shepard's pie. It is delicious! When you walk in you will always see most customers with that, fish and chips, or pizza. Great bar food with reasonable prices. Service is fast! Was very disappointed in Cleary's tonight. Both waitstaff named Cyndi and bar maid were very disrespectful. First the beer was warm and I said something and they replied it's from the same cooler and yet the previous beers were colder. They acted like I was inconveniencing them. We questioned our bill and the response from both of them was WOW. I have tried to like Cleary's as it's right in town. The food is decent, the table service is decent, however I have NOT had good service sitting at the bar. The main bartender three times I've been there has been an older woman. Two times I've sat with with a girlfriend, once with my husband, all three times we've been ignored for long periods of time My friend and I stopped on on Ladies Night to get a glass of wine (house merlot), it tasted like it had been open for a while and took about 10 minutes for her to bring the bill (for two glasses of wine). Meanwhile, she is chatty with the male customers. Please note this is not the first time this has happened, otherwise I wouldn't be reviewing. I really, really wanted Cleary's to be a place to go. But I've enjoyed 2Fogs far more, better service and the bartender has always been friendly no matter who I've been there with. read more

First time here food was mediocre, my burger was way too salty. When paying they could not figure out how to split a bill down the middle. We waited for about 20 min with a 2 year old 4 year old and 2month old. Any parent out there knows when kids are done eating they are ready to go. The experience was awful and even after speaking with a manager all I got was sorry it's not normally like this please try us again. We may have had a one off experience but it was one of the worst I've had and wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

We ate here several times over the years and it was good. Then we ran into a couple times where the steaks were not good and I thought they might be going bad if you know what I mean. I sent mine back and switched to something else. I figured it was a one time issue, but when I next ate there I again had a bad experience with the meat. Fantastic food at very reasonable prices. This place is our go to for a quick bite. Menu is big and we haven't found a bad choice yet. Kim and I had our wedding party/afterglow here. We did finger food/appetizers, beer and wine and had a local baker bring in cupcakes. The service was absolutely great, the banquet team had the room set up exactly how we asked for it to be, right down to the remote controls for the tv in the room off to the side where we thought the kids might like to hang out together, play pool and escape the adults (we rented two rooms). We had a great time and it was so nice to focus on fun and not have to worry that things weren't right. Cleary's was a huge part of our day. Could not have asked for anything to have gone better! We went there St.Patrick's Day looking to get have good corned beef and cabbage not the case,once seated we were ready to order,only question was what kind of soup,waiter we only have French onion ok then,waited for a while,the soup and dinner came out at the same time soup was hot but my food was luke warm at best asked the waiter to reheat it, when my plate came back my potatoes were missing I asked for them back,when we got home I called wanting to talk with a manager was told he's to busy be he would call later. We got a gift card from some friends to Cleary's and decided to check it out. I had only ever been there for the bar, never for dinner. I was very surprised when I bit into the burger, it was amazing! I got a cheeseburger with no other toppings on it so I could tell immediately the meat was flavored perfectly. The rest of the food was really good too. My biggest problem with it was the live band. That place was just not built for live music. The acoustics in there are just horrible. We always leave before the band starts. This trip was no different, as soon as we realized the band was setting up we hurried up and finished up and got out of there before they started. If you are in one of the side rooms its fine but being in the first room is just too much. My advice is to go when there is no live music and you will have a wonderful meal. read more

They either need a new Chef or need to update the menu. I wanted a Shepherd's Pie. The menu offers it but the "chef" decided to make it with Beef instead of Lamb. Therefore, he made me a Cottage Pie. The employee said its the same thing. It is not! That's like saying a Lamb Meat Burger is the same as a beef Hamburger. I'm sure that ones palate would notice the difference. And every Chef knows the difference in these meat pies. They also allow a Caesar Salad to be added on for a great price. However, the price is only fair because it is not a true Caesar Salad. It's just Romaine Lettuce, Caesar Dressing and Parmesan Cheese. They leave out the lemon juice, olive oil, egg, Worcestershire sauce and garlic that a TRUE Caesar Salad has. I'm not sure about the other items on the menu but it would be safe for one to assume that they will not serve what they named it. The cook here has gone rogue to say the least. read more

I've been to Cleary's three times including today. We go there when visiting our daughter in Brighton. I lived in Great Britain for 3 years and visited a lot of pubs and Cleary's is pretty close to a pub. All the tv's take away from the authentic pub, but this is the U.S. after all. The service was great. Our waitress, Carolyn, kept checking with us. I had the French Dip sandwich and fries. They were excellent. Prices are good. It gets loud when there is a sports game on the tv's. It's obvious this is a local hangout. I would recommend this place and will definitely return. read more
