We came here for my birthday dinner. It was a prom evening but most of the group dates were in their way out to make it to the dance when we were getting seated. We had a larger group, about 12 (10 adults, 2 kids) and were seated at an "L" shaped table formed by pushing 2 differently shaped tables together, meaning half of our group couldn't see the other half without having to swing around or endure a cricked neck. Our server was pleasant, and attentive in the beginning. Before our appetizers had even arrived, we were already being asked for meal orders. Kinda felt rushed, but put our meal orders in and the appetizers came out. They were all very tasty, and the new pickle fries with ranch were very tasty. Would have been better if the silverware came out before the appetizers came, but maybe the wash washers were backed up from the all of the prom diners that were just leaving. Either way, we had a Second Lady bringing over silverware, so we had to wait to eat until she got there. Shortly after, our entrees arrived, also very delicious! I got the "Pick 2" BBQ items with 2 sides. One of my sides was incorrect, but the severs corrected it the mistake quickly. At this point, the entire table needed refills but the wait staff had completely disappeared for our half of the dining room. I observed other tables (like a couple in a booth kitty-corner from us) was looking around for assistance while I was. It was nearly 30 minutes before a server swung by again to get empty plates out of the way. I don't know if they were trying to get us to leave or what, but joke's on them, we still had presents and cupcakes to do! After our table was FINALLY cleared of enough played and empty cups to conclude our birthday celebration, we enjoyed our cupcakes from M Street Bakery. The wait staff didn't offer us any clean small plates so we had to have our deserts from their wrappers or off of our leftover dirty plates. Honestly, we could have asked for desert plates but we should have been offered them by the waitstaff. Our group explained in the beginning that we're would have separate checks, and when the checks came,it took multiple times for the splits to be done correctly, and one check had to be voided and a credit card transaction had to be refunded and Ran again because the wrong check was charged for the wrong items. I'm willing to give Block Brewing another shot, not on a holiday/school weekend. Maybe we had walked in after a HS dance tornado had just blown through, and everyone was just pooped. It just kinda felt like our whole group was kind of an afterthought and we were put in a corner: out of sight, out of mind. read more

We passed this place heading home from a family holiday lunch in Howell and decided to give it a try. Middle of Sunday afternoon--not many people in, mostly families having a late lunch and some guys at the bar watching football. We took bar seats and leafed through the spiral bound beer menu--it's large, and whatever style of beer you're like you'll probably find here. Sampled hazy and black IPAs and decided to go for the hazy, which came in a snifter despite not being terribly strong. Flavor was nice, pleasantly fruity and not too heavy on the tongue. It was not too crowded so we were seated immediately. Service is very good. Started with a flight of some of their craft beers. Decent pours for 10.00. Food selections include small plates,salads,sandwiches,pizza and larger plates with an emphasis on smoked BBQ. We shared the Pick Three BBQ plate with baby back ribs,beef brisket and smoked turkey. Came with 2 sides and a cornbread muffin. Portiond were smaller than I'm used to and the smoked turkey could have been sliced thicker as it was pretty dry. The brisket had good smoked flavor but also dry. The ribs were very good. They have 4 different sauces on the table for you to try. Their House Sauce was the best in my opinion. Conveniently located for us near our daughter's home, this brewery was a nice place to have a drink and lunch. Our server was friendly and efficient. The food came out hot and just as ordered. They have a full bar as well as a decent beer selection. Nothing stood out as far as decor. It was nice to have four choices of bbq sauce on the table but not the best bbq I've had. Really nails the personality of the place. The staff is wonderful, friendly, & helpful. Great BBQ. There are lots of options and a nice selection of sauces (i like the house sauce). Large private parking lot surrounding the facility. No stairs when you enter and you are asked to wait to be seated. The bar is right at the entrance with large screen TVs surrounding it. They have their own swag counter. I bought a sticker for my cooler for a dollar. We decided to get a booth and not sit at the bar. The decor was very dark but worked well for the atmosphere. I enjoyed learning they have trivia nights, and a membership program. All outlined in the booklet at the table. We ordered burgers, wings and this turkey sandwich that was delicious. I was not a big fan of the French fries but my husband loved them. The waitress was knowledgeable, fast and friendly. She suggested a blueberry beer and provided us with samples. Appreciated that. My Son and I came here for lunch and a beer today. We were quickly sat, our server was very pleasant and checked on us several times. The beer menu is fairly extensive (3 pages). We had the Braided Blonde and the Cherry Bomb. Loved them both. I had 2. For food, we had the Smokehouse Meats Pizza and the Pick Two BBQ option (Chicken & Pulled Pork). Came here for lunch on our way to Central Michigan. Our service was prompt and efficient. Pretty big place but didn't seem to have too much of a crowd for lunch. The food and beer were both solid, but nothing to write home about. I'm a big fan of smoked turkey, and was happy to see it on their menu since I don't get it often, but it was meh. Block Brewing is my son's favorite place in town. Hence, it was not surprising this is where he chose to take us on our first visit after he moved to Howell. The location of this establishment on the southern edge of town is quite accessible. The standalone building is spacious with plenty of parking. The bar area is quite large, as is the indoor seating area. There is a rather capacious patio area as well, which was where we opted to sit that night. The menu featured many standard American pub dishes. My wife went for a snack with Block Fries, which were sprinkled with Parmesan. My son had the Chili, which he thought was very good. My daughter-in-law had the Cheeseburger, which she said was also good. I opted for the Catfish, which was breaded and accompanied by cornbread and cole slaw. I even had enough for another meal to take home. Everything was tasty and to everyone's satisfaction. The service was very good as our server, Kayla, was very attentive and efficient. The prices were reasonable as our final bill with food, drinks, tax and tip was $78. At $19.50 per person, this was not unreasonable. We will definitely be returning in the near future. read more

Food was fantastic and very fast! I got the Mac and cheese and it was a good portion. But although the good food, our waitress was HORRIBLE. We had a waitress named Isabella P. Throughout the whole dinner, she would barely check on us, and only return when needed such as ordering, delivering our food, and paying. She also was very unfriendly and rude, example when she was giving us the receipt and the card back, everybody know you should say, " have a nice day " or " thank you guys " all she has said to as was her exact words, "bye." Which I thought was very rude. I would understand if it was a busy day or on a dinner rush but the place was dead. I am a server myself and I understand sometimes people get mad or are having a bad idea but you should never treat customer like that. read more

I've been here a half dozen times. In my opinion the Howell location is better than the Brighton. I've had both awesome service and below par service. More so on the positive end. The food is good. I love their nachos. Easily feeds a couple of people. Their Mac and cheese is ok. I think they use the quest for it. Their green beans are great. Fresh and cooked to perfection. The bbq beans have never tasted that good to me. They honestly don't ever seemed cooked enough. As far as the meat, it is good. It's not the most amazing bbq, but it's good. The chicken is always tender and juicy. I do wish the pork had more smokiness to it. I like when the pulled pork has a little bit of burnt stuff on it! All in all, it's a good place! The food at this Brewery is EXCELLENT. The beer selection is the largest craft beer selection we have ever seen. Recommendations are Moose Sweat and Irish Furry. We have not had a single bad experience here. We try something different every time we patronize this business, and have not had a bad meal. We took our daughter. I ordered the pepper Jack crab soup. She tried one bite of it, and told me it would be better if she ate it instead of me. If we could offer one suggestion, it would be to have them distribute their beer to Horrocks' beer tavern and put Moose Sweat in canned 4 packs for purchase. We stopped here on our way to the west side of the state. Sat at the bar and were immediately greeted. The server was so friendly and helpful in recommending drinks to us. I ordered the strawberry lemonade seltzer and it is to die for! My husband got the Block Pale Ale and it too was very good. Block Brewing was one of our first stops on our brew hop of the area. We did a pretty good job mapping out all of the breweries in the area. We walked in, checked out the layout of the brewery and decided to sit at the bar. This brewery has been transformed from a former restaurant. We were excited to see the large variety of beers on tap. We ended up ordering a beer flight to split. We had many breweries on our list to try and we were getting an early start. I hate to leave bad reviews but this one is warranted. My husband, kids and I came to eat dinner tonight. Beer is ordered in weird sizes and you're not able to get 20oz unless you're a member, which our waitress couldn't explain to us. We were stuck with less than full 14 oz beers but charged for 16. The food is terrible. My daughters who ordered off the adult menu had cold fries and dry burgers ( they asked for medium). The Caesar salad was swimming is bottled Caesar dressing, absolutely disgusting. My sons ordered a full rack of ribs, which was just okay. For a bbq and beer place, it was kinda lame. read more

My spouse and I met a group of college friends at Block this summer. The day was slightly stormy but we all preferred to eat outside for covid safety. The staff was accommodating. Was really looking forward to eating here due to BBQ being my favorite food and seeing picture posted on retirement seminar advertisement. The brisket was so tough we had to ask for a sharp knife to cut it and baby back ribs were very tough too. Brisket was about 1/3 fat unlike photo I'm going to post of advertisement. When we asked for a sharp knife and said meat was tough the server said that's because it's smoked. Sorry. West Texas, Smokehouse 52, and even Dickies doesn't have meat like that. I have only been to this restaurant/bar once in my life while passing through town, but if I were in town again I definitely wouldn't mind stopping by again. It was early in the day so not a lot of foot traffic but just enough to keep the staff busy. This is a fun atmosphere, large bar section for those who aren't looking for tables, but they have a lot of tables for their larger parties. It start to get busy near the end of our stay and you can see they get a lot of repeat customers. Our bartender/ server was very helpful and a delight to talk to because she did interact with us, shared some laughs, as well as some recommendations when it came to their large menu of beers and food. She talked us into flights and we were not disappointed and also thoroughly enjoyed the flavors of each one. I have noticed the menu does change so at least there will be something every now and again that you can try so don't be afraid to. There's a ton of parking here so you need not worry, just bring yourself or guests and kick back. read more

Our office went together today and ordered the "Block Party" $ 85.00 If you want a large amount of food, don't order this. The Large sides are not large sides. They may feed 2 or 3 people not stated 5 to 6. We got Fries, Mac n Cheese and Cole Slaw, everyone is taking just a smidge so there is enough for 5 of us. My GF and I stopped in on our way back home from OH. We each got a flight of 4 beers. I have to say I was very impressed, every beer was smooth, clean, well balanced and incredibly drinkable. I could easily drink a full pour of any of the beers we sampled. We are not into IPAs so I couldn't speak on those, but we had the cherry kolsch, which wasn't overly sweet, tangerine heffe, original heffe, blockout stout, wired coffee porter (which had rich coffee flavor wothout the bitterness) transport porter.
