A spontaneous happy trip with a 2 and 4 year old is not for the faint of heart, but Bourbons gave us the absolute best service. The entire staff was helpful, but the MVP was the hostess who supplied us with lollipops and helped to move all of our stuff to a booth when one became available. We recently dined here to celebrate my husband's birthday. The service was wonderful, and our server was friendly and attentive. The menu offers a lot of delicious options, and both my husband and our friend loved the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. I ordered the Salmon, which was okay. The Spanish Coffee was one of the best I've had. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was how my food allergies were handled. I had included my dietary restrictions in our reservation and also called the restaurant the night before to make sure they could accommodate me. I was reassured after they checked with the kitchen that most items on the menu could be modified to work within my restrictions. Based on that conversation, I felt comfortable keeping our reservation. Since we were dining with others for a birthday celebration, I had hoped the information from my reservation and phone call would have been communicated to our server so I wouldn't need to go through all of my restrictions again at the table. Instead, I had to explain everything during dinner. Because the restaurant is extremely loud and the tables are packed closely together, our server had to stand across the table from me, which meant having to discuss my allergies loudly in front of our entire party and the surrounding tables. It was an uncomfortable and awkward situation. What was most frustrating, however, was then being told that my options were essentially limited to a protein and green beans. This was a far cry from what I had been told the night before that the kitchen could modify most items on the menu to accommodate me. I completely understand that not every restaurant can accommodate every allergy or dietary restriction, and I don't expect them to. My concern is that I specifically called ahead for this reason and relied on the information I was given. Had I been told beforehand that my options would be so limited, we simply would have chosen another restaurant where I could enjoy a nice meal along with everyone else for my husband's birthday. We ventured out it to Brighton to try a new restaurant. Loved the cool, relaxing vibe as we walked in the door. different types of seating (inside, covered porch and sidewalk seating). The tables on the side of the building are not as exciting as the seating at the front of the building. Our waiter had such an energetic vibe and was very polite. We had water within a minute of sitting down. Our order was very fast. Easily within 10 minutes. Very impressive! I loved the southern fried chicken with the mashed sweet potatoes. Their cornbread was so moist and had a nice flavor. The breading on the chicken was perfectly cooked and had a nice sweet flavor. We decided on the bread pudding for dessert which was easily a shareable item. So much flavor and wasn't too overly sweet with the candied pecans and sweet drizzle topping. I stopped in here for lunch with a few colleagues. We each had one of the smoked old fashioneds, which were quite tasty. We had some vidalia onion dip for an appetizer which had a good flavor. My entree was the cajun shrimp and grits. It has been a long time since I have had this dish from a restaurant done well enough to like. It was delicious. My only complaint is that the shrimp come tail-on... i know thats a thing these days, but ive never liked it. Anyways - the greens were tasty, the cornbread was good, and main portion.... delectable. Happy Hour Review First time I have tried Bourbons Happy which is Monday thru Friday from 3 6pm. As far as Happy Hours go I was quite please with this one and fet it was definately a step above your normal Happy our where they serve lower quality whiskey and are light on the booze. My Old Fashion was made using Old Forester Bourbon which is an excellent Bourbon from a cocktail standpoint where it was well made and nicely balanced and they definately did not chince on the bourbon and used a Luxardo cocktail Cherry to boot! Nice!! Price was $7 and for a drink of this quality is absolute deal by any standard. Aside from the Booze they also have a limited Food menu, also $7 an item, where I ended up getting the flatbread which was excellent. Well cooked with lots of cheese and a meat topping (not sure which meat but had a ham consistency about it) and was quite tasty. For 1 person this was more than enough for my dinner where at $14 dollars total for my drink and food at this quality is amazing. I guess this is Bourbons idea of an adult happy meal - Move over McDonalds there is a new player in town and he's got my vote (: Overall if you like Happy hours and dont want to sacrifice quality over price than this is a must visit. We had such a great meal at Bourbons! We started with the Coconut Lavender Lemonade and the Brown Sugar Fig Old Fashioned. The lemonade was so refreshing, and the Old Fashioned had such a warm flavor from the brown sugar and fig. The Vidalia Onion Dip came out sizzling! It was creamy, cheesy, and SO yummy. The French Dip sandwich was so comforting and satisfying, and the Mac & Cheese with Hot Chicken was such a good combination! It was definitely a busy night, so we were glad we made a reservation because the restaurant stayed packed until after 9 PM. Despite the bustle, the service was absolutely amazing as always. Food was great and came out quick The staff was friendly. My only complaint is that for a place called "Bourbons" it was disappointing getting our old fashioned's with regular ice. It was not until after our 2nd round that we were told that Rocks or ice balls are only available if they are specifically requested. For a $14-$19 bourbon cocktail, it should be served automatically with large clear ice rocks that do not melt before your cocktail is finished. read more

Great personality, efficient with drink refills and dishes clearing, and menu knowledge for great meal and drink suggestions!! My husband's filet was perfectly prepared, his Southern Smoked Old Fashioned was delicious, and my Southern Chicken Salad was beautiful and satisfying!!! He got a complimentary slice of Hummingbird Cake that is a delicious treat!! We had a guest with us visiting from NY, and she had such a great time!! One suggestion, have you ever considered any kind of sound dampening drapes or pads in the restaurant? We always have great meals but sometimes when you're at full capacity, it can be hard to hear the group or the server without multiple requests to repeat themselves, or a hand wave and a "we'll talk when we're at the car". Arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and still had to wait more than 30 minutes. They were super nice about it, and to be fair, it was Kentucky Derby day, right as the race was starting. They also comped us two desserts, which was very kind. Corn chowder was amazing! The wedge salad was delicious as well. I ordered it with salmon. I had a pink margarita that was really good, too. I made reservations weeks in advance, and we had fewer People on the day (only 2). My husband asked for us to sit outside and they said it would be a few minutes. They seated us inside saying they didn't have anything after they said they would seat us outside. This made an already tough situation suck even more. Went here about 3 years ago for an old work trip and happened to be back in the area so I had to make a stop. I ordered the brisket sandwich was served open face style on a piece of sourdough. Being that it's brisket, the break served more like a sponge than anything else. The brisket had pretty good flavor. My only gripe would be that I feel like the sauce drowned out the good natural smoke flavor. However, it was still really good. The bartender was super friendly, always approached with a smile and made sure I didn't need anything. The restaurant itself is super clean with a large bar to sit at. No fault of the restaurant but know that you'll have to either park on the street or in a public parking area. Nothing abnormal for this area. First visit on NYE. Made reservations for 8pm. We am were so surprised that the place was packed. I was concerned about weather and parking so we arrived early, checked in at the desk and had to go across the street to get a drink to wait for our table. Bourbons host sent a text when our table was ready, which was exactly at our reservation time. We sat squeezed in at a two-top along the windows. There's no coat check and no place to put coats and purses which was annoying to have to fight with all the coats at such a small spot for the whole dinner. I ordered a spicy rum cocktail after confirming with the waitress that the drink is spicy. Got the drink, it's was very sweet and tasted like peach but not spicy. She suggested a spicy margarita instead. It came and it was spiced with BBQ seasoning. I thought the rim was tajin but it was hot BBQ or Cajun spice that was smoky. I told her it was fine but it was crap. I didn't want to keep trying. My husband first ordered a bowl of corn chowder. It was more like chicken tortilla soup. No corn but corn flavor, not so much creamy, full of chicken and potatoes. It was smoky and spiced too, which made it taste more like tortilla soup. Our entrees were the Bourbons burger and short ribs. Flavors were good but nothing outstanding. The burger was nicely done and a substantial patty. There were no sauces for the burger and had to get our waitress to get ketchup. Waitress was excellent. She was on top of everything and very gracious. The dining room was very full and loud, even at 9pm. The dining room was well run and turned tables quickly. Everyone was very nice. Previously we were eating around Rochester but recently came upon adorable Brighton and now we are eating around Brighton and Bourbons was our first spot. When we entered they were playing country music. While that is not my vibe, it is Southern inspired comfort food, so I get it, but thank goodness, they actually played a variety of music for all types of listeners, which was much appreciated. I rather several genres during an evening. I love, love, love their aesthetic. While they were going for comfort food, their large paintings give a distinctly European vibe with a fun rustic set of tables and chandeliers, it is quaint and adorable. I also liked the smell of campfire smoke that apparently came from their smoky old fashions. While I do not personally drink them, they are fun. The server who assisted us was very nice and knowledgeable. She did check in frequently. I guess the hit or miss might was the food, or perhaps what we ordered. I thoroughly enjoyed what I ordered where my husband was not as impressed with his food and drink. I started with the latte martini. It was so creamy and refreshing, a nice take on the espresso martini if you like a little cream in your coffee. I liked the touch of the chocolate shavings. I would order that again, so please keep it on the menu. My husband had the classic espresso martini, but it was not as good. Our gold standard is Eatally plus many other places in Michigan make a great one, so I am not sure how to make this one better but I would not order again. I also had their Kentucky vanilla cream ale, it was so delicious and very unique. It would be a must order drink any time I am here, it goes perfectly with the Southern food theme. Very light and refreshing, but had distinct notes of vanilla without being overly sweet. To eat I had the shrimp and grits and I subbed the mashed corn for red skin potatoes. It was a winner. I loved the cheese and jalapenos grits and the shrimp was nicely cooked. The mashed potatoes were nice and lumpy with skin left on, very flavorful, and the collard greens were also seasoned nicely, the entire plate went perfectly together. The corn bread was a bit dry but once I asked for a plate of butter, it was perfect. The portion was large and I had enough for a meal the next day. My husband ordered the French dip. It was small and very dry with a very small portion of meat for the price. He said the jus was good, but I did not try it. The gold standard for a beef sandwich is Portillo's, which is huge and half the price. He subbed fries for the mac and cheese. It was not great, tasted like a kid's meal mac. For a Southern inspired place, it should be great, but is was mediocre and the candied bacon was more like bacon bits, did not taste fresh. So, I am thinking, the on themed food, minus the mac, is the way to go here. The other Southern inspired meals coming out of the kitchen also looked as good as mine. Last we tried the hummingbird cake. What I like about it is that it did look homemade, like someone took a huge sheet pan at home and made some banana bread. It was not amazing, but I like that they made it and it did not seem to come out of a box. The frosting was good, and I liked the pecans. It was reasonably priced and a huge portion. I did make reservations and it was pretty empty when we arrived, but I was smart to make those reservations because it filled up quickly and was standing room only by the end. last notes, I also liked the bathroom, it was clean and had fun on theme soap containers. Have been to Bourbons several times. Always great food and service. Can be a bit load at times but still a great experience. Staff are amazing, I made a mistake on a bill on one of our visits, the waitress took the time to track me down, called to let me know of the mistake (which she could have just processed and greatly benefitted from). She held onto the bill until the next day so I could go back in and correct. Needless to say, this was greatly appreciated. Great food and ambiance! My work place has celebrated thanksgiving lunches here multiple times and the food is always good. If there is any issue, they are very accommodating. The first steak was over cooked and they brought me a new one! The jambalaya soup was delicious and the garlic aioli sauce for the steak and fries was super good too. The service was great too! We were passing through Brighton and decided to try Bourbons for lunch. There is a lot of construction on their street. And we were not even sure if they were open but luckily they were. Food was okay... One of my complaints was that our food was kind of lukewarm, borderline cool. The taste was there but kind of sucked that it wasn't hot. Also, I tried a Bloody Mary that the waitress suggested with bourbon. Never again. I wish I would have sent it back but I am just not that girl. My kid really enjoyed his grilled cheese sandwich. They have a large cocktail list, primarily with bourbon-based drinks but plenty of others to enjoy. My friend personally thought the margarita was too strong (is there truly such a thing?!). I would definitely come back to try other food items and drinks. They have indoor seating with a super long lounge-type couch as one of the main seatings. They also have outdoors, as well as a combo in-and-out room with large windows to bring the outside in.
