I went here years ago. it's not any where the same. the first two times I wasnt impressed gave it a third shot and I'll never be back. we ordered deep fried jalapeños they tasted like dill pickles they were not good. we ordered burger that I made sure the waitress understood how I wanted it cooked medium. she said that the cook does a great job. we got the buger it was completely raw. she never came back to see if everything was ok. Walking in and surveying the crowd, I got the impression this is the type of place men go to get away from their wives for a while. Dark sports bar vibes. The bartender was nice to us and super-attentive. They didn't have any ciders on tap but did have a great selection of cans. I went the beer route with a Soft Parade and my husband had a Guinness. After looking over the menu, we decided to make a little sampler platter (bummer they don't have one on the menu.) Prices were fair; I almost felt like I was transported back to 2019 before The Thing Happened. Food came up quick; we got the chicken fingers with fries and an order of cheese sticks. The chicken fingers were very generic; standard, flat GFS tendies. A little disappointing. It's my understanding (by reading reviews) they used to be better. Fries were cooked perfectly well done. The mozz sticks were lukewarm. Weirdly, their chicken tenders are served with cocktail sauce and sweet and sour by default. We told the bartender we didn't want either but would want BBQ instead. We got charged for the BBQ sauce .___. Not cool. Anyway, like most old bars, this place gets by on nostalgia by regulars. Service still sucks! Thought with new owners it would improve. The waitress came over to take our drink order and we asked if she could wipe the table since there was food all over it. She cleaned the table brought our drinks then proceeded to ignore us the rest of the time. We cashed out with the bartender and walked out. Arrived a bit after 1 PM on a sunny summer Sunday. Maybe a dozen or so patrons there. Champs has a good draft beer selection, though most of the taps were out of order when we went due to some mechanical problem. They also have a large selection of canned/bottled beers, so we got a couple cans of Old Nation Brewing's M-43. My wife got a basic burger and said it was ok. I got the roast beef sandwich, which was a bit of a letdown. They didn't stint on the toppings-plenty of beef and the advertised sauteed veggies--but they really could have done with less of them. The sandwich fell apart when I tried to pick it up. About half of it had slid completly off the bun. Some of the would-be sandwich fillings were actually covered by the potato chips in kind of a reverse loaded potato dish, so the problem started in the kitchen and could have been corrected there. The roast beef came in thick slices, though didn't have a lot of flavor. Some of the grilled onions were quite underdone. Atmosphere-wise, it's a pleasant small town bar. Foodwise, it might not be the best option in the area. read more

Don't go here unless you can settle for mediocre food and service. The bartender, Renee, sings off key constantly and doesn't pay attention to the bar other than the "regulars". The food hygiene is questionable. My guess is that they do not get inspected on a regular basis. Lots of grease and other stuff dripping from below the grill. Curious about this place. I stopped by on a late Thursday morning and ordered breakfast, availabl until 11am...which only allows one hour from their opening time at 10am. I ordered the 2 scrambled eggs, ham, hash browns well done, rye toast breakfast $5.50. It was huge, and I could not finish it. Rye toast was really good with just enough butter. The hash browns are cubed potatoes not shredded, glad I ordered well done so they were a little crispy. Thin slices of ham, huge portion. Enjoyed the coffee. Waitstaff very pleasant. read more

We've heard legends of the Long Islands at Champs from our friends for years. Finally, the time came for us to try for ourselves. They did not disappoint. One of the best Long Islands I've ever had. Can't believe it was only $12 for top shelf. The waitress was super nice and attentive. The only food we had was curly fries and they were decent. Service was really great, but I guess I expected more ambiance after reading the marquis with offerings of elk and bison burgers. Without a hint of aspersion, Champ's is first and foremost a dive bar. It's dimly lit with beer ads and paraphernalia on the walls. The kitchen isn't behind the bar it is the bar... fryer, flattop griddle, nuff said. I'm all too happy to chow down at a dive. That said, salt and pepper go a long way to help out when seasoning a burger. Theirs was pretty middle of the road, a little overcooked and underseasoned. Again, when I see bison and elk on a marquis, it sets an expectation of what's in store. I thought the ground round burger would be phenomenol. Their fries reminded me of Planter's potato sticks. The duck tenders were interesting, and their Cowboy balls app was great. It's definitely worth checking out. read more

Filled with old pub charm and fun, this restaurant/pub is character personified. Our appetizers were a bit over done, and our bar burger while cooked to temp was missing the ordered cheese and seasoning. Drinks were a bit over poured but that we could handle. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! Wasn't sure what to expect on a Monday night but the service and food was fantastic! My husband and I enjoyed a few different fresh drafts between us. We split the elk burger and chicken fajitas sandwiches together too. So good! The curly fries and onion rings with them were extra and those were also a satisfying treat. We've been patrons of Champs since the late 80's, but haven't been as happy with the food since it was sold. Burger has definitely been downsized, and the chicken tenders are no longer what they were previously. I do like they there are more specials to choose from. The Walleye on Fridays has been really good. Service staff works hard to make sure you're taken care of, which is a huge plus. Pours are always nice here, and drinks are always good. read more

By far, today was the worst experience! The bartender was very rude and when I asked for beer on tap, she pointed me to the board. When a male customer asked for beer on tap, she started to tell him all the beers on tap. She never looked to see if I needed anything after I got my food, and she just start talking to customers she knew. The servers / bartenders are slow and give an attitude. They seem to be annoyed that they have to actually work and be polite when a customer comes in to give the business money. When you work at a bar or restaurant you may not be in the best mood or you may be tired, but it us your job to act like you're not. I will never be here again. read more

Haven't been there in forever, I finally was in the area and glad that we were going to make the stop. We walked in, nobody acknowledged us, so we sat ourselves. 2 waitresses on the floor and they were each doing the same thing. Taking turns going to and cleaning off the same tables. We sat there for over 11 minutes before we said forget it and left. So here we sit around the corner at the pound where we were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and a server was taking our drink order right after. Champ's delivers exactly what they promise. It's a classic little bar on the corner downtown. The food is regular bar fare. It doesn't have any particular 'theme,' it's just good drinks and a neighborhood atmosphere. Parking is sometimes a little iffy, at least for Brighton. There's a lot behind the building and a lot across the side street, but there are also several office buildings with plenty of traffic. There are a few street parking spots. read more

When you walk in, you are transported back in time... the interior is old, yet it has retained the itself and kept it's character... the locale reminds me a lot like Millers in Dearborn... they do all their cooking at the bar, just like the Millers... thankfully they serve their food on baskets :) Their fried pickles were excellent, they use the strips instead of the chips, the fried green beans were ok, could have used little more seasoning... the fried zucchini was decent as well. I had the elk burger, medium with onion rings... the burger was greasy and good! The onion rings were fried perfectly... it went very well with 22oz of beer!!! As for the service, it was it or miss... had to ask for my first beer 2nd time to get it, but thereafter the waitress stopped by and checked-in on us often.... maybe it was because of the friends little ones yelling!!!! read more
