We've been wanting to try this place. Love the decor. I didn't take a picture of the liquor/whiskey/bourbon menu but it's there's a lot. Menu changes from time to time but I will post that anyways. This place was great. My husband and I were looking for somewhere nice to go for our first wedding anniversary and some friends suggested Single Barrel Social. Our anniversary fell on a Monday this year and I figured it wouldn't be very busy, we also have a 4-week-old newborn so we wanted to treat ourselves. I started with the mango seasonal drink and it was superb; my husband got one of the smoked Old Fashioneds. I also tried the blueberry seasonal drink and it was good but I liked the mango better. We got the mini cornbread as an appetizer, and for my entree, I had the filet, with Lyonnaise potatoes as a side. My husband got the wagyu flatiron steak with Brussels sprouts as a side, which were fabulous - they had some sort of cherry sauce on them. For dessert we had the cannoli cake - it didn't really taste like cannoli to me but more like a lava cake, and it was tasty. Waitservice was also very good and timely. I would definitely return here - it's a little pricey (entrees are like $25+, I forget how much their burgers were) but you get what you pay for, as the quality was very good. We wanted a try a place we hadn't been before and SBS was just what we were looking for. I made a reservation for Saturday at 5p because their instagram was fire and there was a highlight for happy hour. I clicked on those pics and SBS boasted a Friday and Saturday happy hour 4-6p! Glad I called. Apparently those are old posts and they don't have a happy hour at all anymore. Bummer and I almost looked elsewhere. This is just down the street from the social district. The parking is much easier but they were still busy. The building is incredible. This is a very cool spot. Great for a date night and to meet friends. Lots of glass, metal and light. The dining room itself is very dark and intimate. I don't believe you will find quiet anywhere in this place. It's lively. It's also pricy. It's great that they are a scratch kitchen and the menu is fantastic. The plates going to other tables looked and smelled incredible and definitely influenced my choices. The Malbec by the glass is delicious but not the A-typical Malbec. Deep, rich and off dry. Not sweet but not mouth-tacking dry either. If I knew it was so good I may have simply ordered the bottle but now knowing that's it's about $10 for the bottle and they have it listed for $42, glad I didn't. We started with charcuterie. Iberrico ham, prosciutto, and chorizo. Goat milk Gouda, triple cream Brie and a red cheddar. Toast slices, jam, almonds and mustard. Everything was good but it was incongruent. None of the meats go with the cheeses but they were delicious on their own. Hubs had the pasta and I had fried rice. The pasta was a lovely al dente. Good portion and tasty. The rice was beautiful and piping hot! All elements were perfectly cooked. The salmon, the beans, the shrimp; all were great. The vegetable wonton was a big egg roll cut in half but it was not good. The wet soggy cabbage made the wrapper soggy too. The sweet sauce with the egg roll was odd and spicy. Not bad but not great either. The waitress was fine. Nice and just the right amount of attentive. The place was getting busy. We skipped dessert and paid the $100 bill and headed to Blank Slate for a scoop. read more

We ordered two steaks, each $75, Harvest Ribeye. She ordered medium-well, I ordered medium. We were celebrating birthdays. Both were tough and chewy, but the taste was good. For $75 each, that's JUST AWFUL. Like roadside diner awful. The little carrots (5 little carrots) were really good. No sense returning, we were both ravenous, and did the best with what we had. We showed up at the Single Barrel Social just a little after the place opened (at 4pm) . . . as we are old folks. Happy Hour was in effect, so we took advantage of the reduced price menu options. We split a mixed beet salad, and then followed with our entrees: a prime sirloin and asparagus for my lady friend, and the bolognese for me. We split an enormous slice of key lime pie for dessert. We had two drinks apiece. The tab was $140 before tip, and those were the Happy Hour offerings. The food was excellent, as was the service. The place tends to be loud, and I can only imagine what it's like during full dinner service. We'll be back, but it will be during Happy Hour. read more

They make their own from the various steaks they offer, thus fat content is high and would shrink the burger! Ok then they serve it on a potato bun. Fries are not fresh but coated. All for $24. To me this feels like one of those spots that you'll miss it if you're not looking for it. It's on Grand River in Brighton and there's so much on either side of the road there, so be on the lookout. That being said, this place is fantastic! From the decor to the food to the drinks to the service, it's all aces. I honestly don't have a bad thing to say about this place. This is my new favorite restaurant in the Brighton area! It is very trendy and has a lot of interesting things on the menu. The food was all really good! I ordered the filet mignon with a side of veggies and zip sauce and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. I love the crisp texture of the charred meat. They do use a decent amount of pepper, which I would ask them to leave off next time. The steak comes with your choice of side and I would recommend the whipped potatoes (what my fiancée ordered). We also tried the bread & butter, Guadalupe salad and whitefish croquettes- all delicious. I did not love the duck fat potatoes- just found them to be a little bland. The service was good & we're happy to share recommendations with us. They get pretty busy on the weekends so I would recommend making a reservation. There is also bar seating if you have a small group. The food is on the expensive side but worth it! read more

Half west coast and half east coast. Delightful of course. Steak Tartare - 5 stars on the plating. Also 5 stars on the flavors. Love the plantain chips. Perfect accompaniment to the raw beef. Don't like raw beef? I don't care what you think. Let's keep it moving shall we. Bone Marrow - As you've seen from my reels, I'm partial to this dish as well. These guys are superb. Spread a proper amount on the toast. Top it with the caramelized onions and prepare to melt your life away. Oh, you don't like that too?? Don't care, more for me. Let's keep it moving. Delmonico Steak - I make amazing steaks, and my friends usually compare mines to other restaurants. Yes, this cut of cooked beef passes with honors. Medium Rare was spot on and the roasted root veggies were phenomenal. Service was dialed in. Our server did not skip a beat. We were taken cared of every step of the way. As soon as you enter, your nose is smacked with the delicious aroma of wood & meat. Reservations are definitely recommended, as this place is really popular. They offer an extensive drink menu. My husband and I had an early dinner at SBS a few months ago with my parents and it could have been such a nice time, but it ended up being incredibly awkward and uncomfortable for two very avoidable reasons... The food was excellent, the drinks were fantastic, and our server did a great job balancing the varying attitudes of the table. However, a couple of their "policies" rubbed us the wrong way. First, when we arrived, the restaurant was not yet half full. When my mom asked if we could be seated in a booth, she was told "I'm sorry, we're fully booked" and was told she should have called after booking online to ask for a booth... Now I know, management wants things to run smoothly and have the tables planned, but this put a sour note over the start to our evening... Second, and probably most importantly, they are... strict? about time limits... I acknowledge the necessity of flipping tables, but bluntly telling a party (especially one that just spent a good chunk of money) that they have a half hour left comes off tacky and puts an uncomfortable burden on the server. That tactic should be reserved for tables that split an app or nurse a beer for an hour, not for a party that ordered apps, several rounds of cocktails, four entrees with extra sides and add-ons... To flip that table, you check in often, ask if they need anything else, offer boxes for leftovers, drop the bill leaving out the usual "no rush", and if they're still dragging their feet, a manager check-in or an offer of a seat at the bar should make them get the hint. My parents said they will not return, which is sad because they live close to SBS and the food was so much better than anywhere they have dragged us all the way from downtown Detroit to try. I hope this review helps in some way, even if only to take some burden off making the servers and hosts have to preach policy to the patrons rather than simply providing hospitality. read more

Went for an early Sat evening family dinner. The atmosphere is great, love the chandelier and all the windows. Everyone was welcoming. Our server, Chelsea, was helpful and kind, giving good recommendations. It was really nice to see the chef and sous chef bringing out food and interacting with patrons. This is an amazing restaurant!!! Be prepared to spend some money but well worth every penny!! It has a beautiful view and I appreciated that the tables are not on top of each other. There are 2 bars. Mike was our server and he was amazing!!! Took time with us and had a great sense of humor. The sommelier was knowledgeable and very helpful. And the food was to die for!!! We started with the charcuterie board (which was perfectly sized for 5 of us) and lobster artichoke dip (never tasted anything like it... it was a table fave). We had seafood fried rice, strip steak, and the halibut. The halibut came with lemon risotto which was a phenomenal way to add the hint of citrus to the fish. We got mushrooms as our side with the steaks and they were tasty and not overcooked. The steak was perfectly done and flavorful. We had an awful experience at Single Barrel Social during our first re-visit in a few months. The whole thing was so off, it made us question if there were new owners. Starting with a grilled peach salad, asked for the jalepeno dressing in the side. The cup of dressing was set in the salad dish and was jostled around, spilling the dressing onto the salad. This is sloppy service for a high end restaurant. I didn't want that much spice on my salad, disappointment. We ordered the smash burger minus the aioli. We were very clear on this. Also asked for the garlic mashed potatoes as a side. The burger was served with the aoili all over it and it was cooked fairly rare (smash burgers shouldn't have pink). We were given a side of the parsnip potato mash with horseradish instead of the mashed potatoes. I have an allergy to horseradish. I know what it tastes like and I react to it. The te- made burger was the same burger served again, the cheese fully melded into the burger given the second time in the grill and they just changed the bun out. The cook brought the burger out and when I said the first side served was parsnip horseradish, he argued with me saying he knew for a fact it was the garlic mashed potatoes. Two things; that first side was a completely different texture and taste. And I know what horseradish tastes like- I have an ALLERGY to it! So our smash burger was terrible, I was basically given an allergy inducing ingredient, then argued with by the cook. This was once a higher end restaurant that could be counted on. We didn't see our favorite server either so he was either off for the night or gone. Given the quality of our experience, I'm guessing he's gone; he would never work in an environment like that. Something has changed at Single Barrel Social, it's no longer a viable option. read more

Most would probably say this place is overpriced but it's priced just right due to quality, presentation and obviously inflation lol. Quality service and quality food. Made a reservation for 9:30pm arrived at 9:15pm and out table was ready. Seated right away. Ty waited on us and was very professional, knowledgeable, and quick with all the options available. Dad enjoyed the braised short rib soup, I enjoyed a port wine with a espresso creme brulee, and Jeff enjoyed a dozen East Coast bad boy oysters. They served a frozen, shaved vinaigrette that was delicious with the oysters. I also ordered the seafood fried rice but the portion was so large I had to take it to go. They have a beautiful chandelier that we took our picture at. The restaurant itself was clean, smelled good and the atmosphere very hype. They sang happy birthday in one room, the bar was packed and the dining room buzzing with people still enjoying the Friday night. The bathrooms could have used a little bit more attention but it was towards the end of the night so I can understand the overflow of the garbage cans and the water on top of the sinks from washing your hands. I'm only rating in drinks and service because we didn't eat. Got seated at the back bar area right away. The bartender was all alone in that section serving which was not cool because he could have used help. He gave us water right away when we sat down, but had to wait 10-15 minutes to order drinks. He was hustling so I don't hold it against him. It was poor scheduling. I wish I could remember the bartenders name. Such a good bartender. He made me a margarita that was amazing. He wasn't afraid to add enough tequila so that everything was balanced well. He made me a second tequila drink with cucumber and I can't remember what else. It was good and flavors paired well. I liked the brightness of that back, actually front, bar area. It's surrounded by windows so it's bright. The decor is interesting with the deer and elk heads. I like this place but I'm not as enamored as others are. Never ate here but had cocktails several times. Their drinks are good. But there's an arrogance about the bartenders and their ability as craft cocktail people that is a over the the top. I love whiskey, and bourbon and craft cocktails but not everybody does. We were there and I ordered a scotch, and my guest was reluctant to order anything since we already had a drink at dinner, but the bartender kept trying to push drinks on somebody who didn't really want one. When I suggested a Hendrix and tonic, he insulted it as a pathetic drink choice. To me, it's not for the bartender decide what I like or any other customer likes, it's for the bartender to make recommendations based on what people like. Frankly, it felt like he was hitting on her and the more she pushed back the harder he tried. He came around every 15 minutes trying to get her to order a drink when she clearly didn't want one. I had my scotch and then we split a martini which was mediocre at best and all he did was make her feel bad about not drinking more. Not the role of a bartender in my opinion. The caviar app was fresh, portioned well, appropriately prepped and made for a great start. During your visit, ask for bread for the table. Not often suggested but shouldn't be missed. Served in a skillet, well seasoned, and enough for four guests, it's worth the ask. The one pasta dish is always a hit, well prepped, served with pouched egg make it a velvety, creamy experience for a main. Finished with the doughnuts and surrounded by great service all make this place work. Need some sound deadening baffles in the ceiling as this would make conversation a little more enjoyable, but all in all this place hits well.
