One thing to keep in kind is that their menu is in Korean but their staff are more than happy to guide you through the ordering process! We came in on a super rainy day during dinner and it was pretty busy inside! We ordered the number 4 and number 2! Both of which were absolutely delicious. For the rib one the meat was super tender, and was fall off the bone ready. The brother was flavorful and the side dishes made it even more so! The kimchi was a bit too spicy for me but that's because I don't handle spicy well, but my husband said it was the right amount of spicy and crunch! The sides of rice and scallions were great additions to the soup. For drinks, I tried the carbonated yogurt drink. It was so good I walked out of the restaurant wanting more! Nonetheless, I can't wait to come back and try the other few items on the menu! We also ordered one to take home and it was still piping hot when we got home about 40 minutes later! I went to Claypot for lunch half hour before their afternoon shutdown. I had called beforehand to ensure that it would be okay for me to come shortly before the afternoon shutdown. When I got to the restaurant, there were few patrons having their lunch. Claypot is like a mom n pop type restaurant that serves authentic Korean food. They have seven items on their menu. The menu is in Korean with no translation of the listed items. They do have photos on the wall of the menu items for the patrons to see how each dish looks like. But otherwise, you have to inquire with the staff what each dish is. The way the ordering process works is that you order your dish and a drink (if you'd like) at the counter and have a seat in the dining area. Then a staff member brings you the food. I ordered their Yangji Seolleongtang. Not sure what it is called in English but it was basically silky, thin noodles in a savory broth with chunks of beef. The noodle soup was piping hot. Before I got my main dish, I was given a few side dishes such as spicy kimchi, radishes, pickled jalapeños, green onions and a small bowl of rice. I really liked the kimchi and the pickled jalapeños. The noodle soup dish I had was good but a bit bland. So, I added the accouterments I had gotten to spicy my the soup's flavor. It worked well. The soup was exactly the thing my throat had wanted that day as it was comforting and soothing. The food hit the spot. For my beverage, I got the milk & yogurt carbonated drink. It was decent. Last but not least, I had a strawberry flavored carbonated water for later use which was refreshing. Overall, I had a good experience. The service was nice and friendly. I am glad I checked out Claypot. It was good to try a different variety of Korean food that I hadn't tried before. read more

My wife happened to come across this Yelp page while looking for a place for seolleongtang and we decided to check it out! Location is a bit hidden (next to Liquid Fusion, behind the small H-Mart, across the street from Pro Samgyubsal) and parking is difficult to get because the lot is small, but we decided to get takeout so it wasn't an issue for us. We called ahead to order at around 12:15 on a Sunday, and they said our order would be ready in 10-15 minutes. My wife got the Yangji Seolleongtang and I got the Wang Galbitang because other reviews highly recommended it. The inside was much bigger and more spacious than I expected from just looking from the outside, and there were maybe 4-5 tables taken with two ladies behind the counter. They had my order ready and I paid with no issues. Everything was packaged very nicely. The beef ribs were unexpectedly hefty, which is already a pleasant surprise. They weren't completely fall-off-the-bone, but it took minimal effort to get the meat off, and it was nice and juicy. There was also a good amount of meat to go with my wife's seolleongtang. The broth didn't have too much flavor on its own, but they include their salt so you can make it to your liking. We came in to soothe our sinuses due to the fickle Chicago weather and were incredibly pleased to find a delicious meal in the suburbs! We were drawn to this place because we really enjoy Korean Sulungtang (Beef and Bone broth soup). Our go-to place is Hanbat in Chicago, but it was a bit too far of a drive. The ambiance is homey, especially if you're Korean. They had old-school Korean/karaoke-type music. The restaurant feels like a mix between a South Korean bus-station oasis and a Korean immigrant church cafeteria during lunch time. You'll see a bunch of older Koreans congregating in small groups, which probably proves the food is worth the visit. You'll end up ordering at the front out of a list of six entrees, and the water is self-serve. Each table has sea salt and pepper to use for dipping your meat or adjusting the soup to your tastes. They also have additional spring onions and kimchi in front. The clean up process is also self-serve, so you'll need to be ready to bring your finished trays over to the right side of the restaurant. We ended up ordering 2 servings of the Galbi-Tang (Short-Rib Soup) at $18.99 each, so the order came out to be around $42 with tax. It was expensive for a soup compared to places like Koreana (Schaumburg) and Hanbat, but I think it was worth the price for the giant beef ribs in the soup. I always like a chance to eat with my hands! If you're feeling glum on a cloudy day, need a pick me up with some comfort food, or are just plain hungry, check out Claypot! I hemmed and hawed about 4* or 5*, but the female owner was a stickler so that settled the score. They seemed to be in a hurry but we came here for Korean soup so the menu is limited to that. I did see dumplings and that could serve as an appetizer. Not sure how long they have been there but the room is composed of tables for 4, but you can easily sit 6-8 or even more because there is room. I'm sad to say, I wish I had more of a bottom because their seating is all wooden chairs and benches so not so comfortable to sit at. IMO, the legitimacy of a Korean soup place is determined by how many older Korean folks come to eat. On Saturday lunch, the restaurant was completely full, with everyone ordering one same thing: Wang galbi tang. The soup was clear with depth. The portion was very generous for $19.99. It was a bit disappointing because the rib bones they were using were not the best meat (dry and less fatty/not marbled) but for the price you pay, it makes sense and I cannot ask for more. The owners need to profit! For sullungtang, I saw several comments saying how this place is better than Hanbat. Honestly, the soup was good and very competitive taste & portion. However, at $17.99 price point vs. ~$12 at Hanbat, I cannot really justify why I would pay the premium. Overall, good experience but not a place I would come out of my way to eat. read more

Hands down the best place for ox bone soup! I think it's even better than Hanbat in the city. I think I order from Claypot at least once a week or every other week. It's especially tasty on a rainy/snowy/cold day. If you order for pick up, they will have your order ready in 10-15 minutes! I have tried soups #1, #2, and #5. My go to choice is #2 because it also includes the tongue and tendon. Their broth is deep and flavorful. The milky white color is evident that the broth has been cooked for many many hours. If you ever order soup #5, the beef ribs are like king size and the meat is tender. It doesn't take much effort to separate from the bone. For what you're paying for I feel like it's a good value and you will be left extremely full. When I dine in I can easily finish one bowl of soup. When I order take out, my husband and I share an order and feel full as well. Compared to other places, Claypot is generous with the amount of meat that goes into the soup. I noticed the somen noodles that come with the soup have also increased in portion, which is a plus! For anyone that has never tried seolleongtang, always add salt to the soup! Without it, the flavor is extremely bland. It is meant for you to add as little or as much salt to your liking. Lastly, they have a nice selection of beverages, including soju! I recommend a bottle to go along with your soup if you dine in. It really hits the spot! Pro tip: Take the liquids in the radish kimchi and pour it into your soup. It adds just a little kick to it. I love this place. The food has consistently been great, especially the yangji seulleongtang, which I've ordered several times now. The broth is so clean, beefy and flavorful and there has always been a generous serving of meat. Because of how delicious and filling this dish is, I haven't tried the Wang "King" kalbitang but plan to one day. The kimchi and kakkteugi are so addictive there with the meal - even my mom commented how well made they were. Just enough heat, tang and in the kkakteugu a touch of sweetness that elevates the meal. Service has always been exceptional as they are friendly, quick and helpful. Upon first glance inside, you may think it's nondescript with one wall of presumably the owner's marathon medals and old Kpop videos playing in the background. Personally I love both as they add to a homey, nostalgic feeling to the place. This restaurant is a hidden gem tucked behind H-Mart serving outstanding Korean soups and dishes. It initially doesn't look like much but they allow you to be the creator of your own bowl. To accompany your bowl you get green onions, kimchi, spicy radish, pickled jalapeño and rice. I was craving soup and just happened to find this new gem when I was perusing Yelp. We called ahead and our order was ready within ~15 minutes. I had the yangji seolleongtang (brisket, chuck shank) and hubby had the wang galbitang (beef rib soup with noodles). The broth was good but it comes unsalted (they provided salt in a separate container for us to season the broth to our tastes). I completely slurped my broth in one sitting and hubby saved his and added noodles to it the next day. I also thoroughly enjoyed the meat from my seolleontang but hubby's beef ribs were so tender and fell off the bone. Needless to say we will be back for more! :) read more

Best Seolleongtang I've had in a really long time! The broth was milky and hearty, but not too beefy. Perfect. Good amount of brisket and shank meat cut down to manageable sizes. The kimchi and kkakdugi (radish) were so good I had to ask if they made it fresh..."yes, we make everything here". Of course they include a bowl of white rice to mix in. Based on the number of yelp reviews, it seems relatively new, but still wanted to give it a shot based on how much people seem to love this place. The menu is rather simple- has 5-6 different soup options and some special dishes you can consider ordering if you come as a big party (3 or more I would say). Anyways, we tried modeum (everything) soup, which had rich flavor. The side dishes were great. I think the price is slightly on the higher side, but cannot complain about the taste. Unbelievable!! I ordered the Wang Galbitang and this is what I got! Literally 4 bones with no actual meat on them at all with what looks to be bite marks on whatever's left! They looked like someone already went through them and bit off all the meat! These are the pictures which I didn't take a single bite out of! This is how they came! Whatever's on the bone are just ligaments and fatty pieces! I asked them "politely" of what happened to the meat and they said this is what it is! Not even a slight remorse of ripping people off!! This is our favorite Korean place. Their seollengtang is delicious and rich. No trace of MSG and I appreciate that it comes unsalted so I can salt it to my liking. It also comes with rice noodles and an abundant amount of sliced brisket and shank inside. You know this bone broth has been boiled for a long time because when you take home the left over soup and refrigerate it, it becomes extremely gelatinous. The price is extremely reasonable and their side dishes tastes like my mom's banchan. They are the best! Service is always great. Whenever a family member is sick, we order takeout soup and it is always packaged well and they don't skimp on quality or quantity just because it's a take out order. I also really like their Wang Kalbi Tang. The meat pieces are tender and there is so much meat on the bones. I could not recommend this place enough. read more

I was really sad that the previous tenant of this space left since the owners seemed so nice and the menu was pretty good but I'm happy Claypot found it's way into the space. All the soups are pretty great. Flavorful without any artificial taste or greasy feeling left behind like some other places. I think one of the best Sulungtang places in the burbs but don't expect it to be like Hanbat. Pretty close though. I expect to make a trip here every time I get a craving but don't want to make a trek into the city. 4 stars instead of 5 since I feel the side dishes (just kimchi and kkakdugi) is very subpar.
