We came for dinner based on yelp reviews. Given the nearly empty restaurant on an early Friday night, I am worried that the place isn't doing as well as when it first opened. The dining room is attractive with high definition tvs displaying photos of Indian architecture. Tables were clean and music was pleasant. There was only 1 waiter and service was excellent. We ordered papadam (sadly not complimentary like most Indian restaurants we frequent), chana masala, and lamb biryani. The chutneys with the papadam were mediocre, chana masala was very good, and biryani was dry. Based on others' better reviews, I suspect that the place was either having an off-nite or the original chef has moved on. We were very disappointed. Prices were high for the mediocre food we received. It was our first time and we probably won't be visiting again. read more

Love this restaurant Have gone to and carried out from them for a long while. The food is always consistent, flavorful and is the real deal when it comes to Indian. There are very few quality Indian restaurants up north and this one is outstanding. The traditional dishes such as Rikki masala and tandoori grill are excellent. Recommend highly. read more

I was looking for a new place to try and stumbled here. I was talking to the one of the workers and they said they've been only open for a week or two. It was very quiet during the lunch hour, but I'm sure not many people know about it yet. I ordered the garlic naan, butter chicken, papdi chat, and masala soda to go. The garlic naan was huge and fresh. The butter chicken was delicious. I love dipping the bread into the sauce of the butter chicken. I've never had a masala soda before. It was alright. Not sure I'd get it again though. The papdi chat was good though. I hope this place gets more attention. The food is good and the service was friendly and quick. read more

I was thrilled to see an Indian restaurant open in Northbrook! My family and I love dining at Indian restaurants, so this was a welcome addition. I took my parents out to eat on a Friday evening, and we had no problem getting seated right away. The service was impeccable and all of the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. My favorites were the samosa, mango lassi, butter chicken, and cheesy naan. The naan and butter chicken were delicious. Some of the other dishes we ordered could have been hotter in temperature and the flavors could be refined. As others have mentioned, rice is not included, however, prices seemed reasonable for the portion size. read more

I came here with my parents and looked forward to trying an Indian restaurant around town with good reviews. The place is nice and elegant from inside. Our food took a while to come out even though there were not many people; I think they have some staffing issues. The paneer tikka was yummy, had crispy edges and paired well with the assortment of vegetables. The garlic naan was baked nicely and had a lot of flavor. Unfortunately the malai kebab, kadai chicken, and shahi paneer completely lacked flavor. It was underwhelming and I probably wouldn't return. read more

My daughter and I went here on a Sunday evening around 5:15 pm. I'll admit it was a little weird coming back to the old Marcello's restaurant where Moksha is now. Almost everything looked the same, except they switched out the lighted photos and pumped in Indian music over the speakers. We waited just under 5 minutes to be seated, so I hope they have plans to hire a host to greet and seat customers at the door. Once we were seated, the server brought us menus and water right away, but it took about 10 minutes for him to return to the table to take our orders. Fortunately, the food came out quickly, and the portions were ample. I thought the price was right, and the food was tasty. As a vegan, I tried the samosas, which had a crispy shell and were filled with lightly spiced potato and peas. I also ordered roti, which tasted great. For my main dish, I tried the chana masala. It tasted perfectly seasoned and was only mildly spicy. The basmati rice was light and fluffy. Oh, and the carafe of water they gave us was very helpful so we could refill our water when needed! I will definitely be back again to try other vegan dishes! read more

Food: All flavors were delicate and never overpowering. Warm butter naan was soft and glistening on one side while gently crackly on the other. Chilli naan parted ways with crackles due to its incorporation of green chillies whose oil softened its dough. And while smoother than expected, the lentil soup's texture very quickly grew on me and raised a thought: put this in a large to-go coffee tumbler, and I will be happy and moving all day. The lamb rogan josh lunch special was as spicy as hoped. And the quality of the lamb was excellent. Cutting it with a fork and spoon--no knife necessary--was fabulously easy. Great job on this dish. Fresh lime soda, an improved 7-Up of sorts, was a quick burst of sweetness, but the gulab jamun dessert -- hot, soft, juicy, deep-fried, milk-solid balls soaking in a steamy rose-flavored sugar syrup, made in-house -- was fantastic and an excellent reminder to visit again and again. Service: Attentive and considerate, with welcome recommendations. Atmosphere: Quiet and clean, with modern Indian Muzak playing in the background. read more

What a find. Went with another couple and we ordered a variety of items. Each and every item was so delicious. We started with vegetable samosas large overstuffed and delicious. The garlic naan was incredible. Each of the 4 entrees were insanely flavorful and the vegetable paneer was the best I ever tasted. Went here for a lunch on Friday afternoon. Ordered - 1. Paneer tikka- ok, could have been more flavorful. 2. Malai kofta- good- the only thing that I actually liked. 3. Lunch combo with butter chicken, Dal makhni, naan and rice- chicken was fine. Dal makhni was flavorless, worst I ever had. Naan was fine. 4. Tandoori roti- I asked for crispy roti and did cane out like that. Overall not impressive at all, especially as the dishes are priced between $17 - $20, you expect flavor and taste. read more

I have now eaten here 5 times and the food met or exceeded my expectations each time. Moksha compares to anything you would find on Devon Avenue in convenient and family run restaurant. My favorite dish is the lamb tiki marsala paired with the garlic naan. The service is very friendly, but sometimes a bit slow. It's worth the wait and patience. Gluten free friendly too. read more

The food here is amazing and service was just as good. My family and I went to try it out because it recently opened and it did not disappoint! The server checked in on us multiple times and was very attentive throughout the entire meal and the food came out in a timely manner. We ordered: The butter chicken which is the perfect classic dish for if you don't know what to order. The Lamb vindaloo which is exactly what we were looking for in a spicy dish. It has a kick to it so if you can't tolerate spice that well i wouldn't order it The Tandoori chicken is not in a sauce like the other two but still has some flavor. The basket mix of naan is a really large portion maybe enough for 4-5 people. read more

Moksha has the most authentic Indian cuisine I've had in Illinois. From the vast selection of breads, to curries, meat and vegetable cuisines, to tandoori dishes and beyond, you cant go wrong here when it comes down to food. One thing I'd like to mention if you came to drink, their cocktails are on the small side, i.e martinis come in rocks glasses so you're not getting as much bang for the buck. I personally had a 22oz Indian beer that was very good but the individual I took didn't like how small their cocktail was. However, if alcohol doesn't interest you, like I said, you can't go wrong here. The service is wonderful, the restaurant looks very nice, and the food is definitely a must try, if you can bear the heat. read more

There are an increasing number of Indian restaurants in the area but this is the best one. Their vegetable pakora is fried clean and crisp, their vindaloo is very spicy and flavorful, and their tandoori chicken is well-seasoned and moist. What good food! We are very familiar with the Indian food options in Northbrook and the Northshore area, and Moksha really stands out. The lamb was tender and very nicely seasoned, and the sauce wasn't oily. It was really tasty. Okra was cut and prepped correctly, so it wasn't chewy or stringy. The channa masala had the right firmness, neither hard nor mushy. The papadum were crispy and freshly made. The dishes had pronounced Indian flavors of cumin, coriander, ginger and garam masala, not just heat. They do not skimp on seasoning. The portion sizes were generous, with lots of meat or veggies and not mostly sauce. Even my wife liked the pakoras and she doesn't eat fried food. I'm not unhappy with paying for rice. They more than make up for that with the generous portion sizes of the entre and vegetable dishes. It's still a great value. We had take out but I walked through the restaurant. It is well appointed, very clean, with a good smell. Mokshu is a very good restaurant, we now have a new go-to, and Northbrook has a new hidden gem. read more

Ate at Moksha for the second in ten days. I love Indian cuisine and Moksha may be the best I've had in Chicago - better than many of the great restaurants on Devon. Our party of three had a difficult time deciding what to order, which is often the case at Indian restaurants. We decided on samosas and fried kale as appetizers. Samosas were delicious and the fried kale was incredible. Wasn't sure what to expect, but when the lightly battered and fried dish was put on the table we were very pleased. Crispy, delicious, not greasy or over-battered, they are a delightful appetizer. Entrees were saag paneer, aloo gobi, tandoori chicken. The saag was excellent, the aloo gobi had much less sauce but were perfectly seasoned with a little heat. The tandoori chicken was ridiculously tender and tasty. A vegetable biryani was ordered as our rice dish (finished our second night of leftovers tonight). The heat is what we look forward to in biryani, but not to overtake the other flavors. The garlic naan was tasty, moist, not like ao many dried, cracker-like naan that often disappoints me. Attentive and friendly service. And very affordable. If you enjoy Indian food, you will love Moksha's. read more

Just went to Moksha for a family dinner while visiting home. We were surprised and excited to see that it had opened after the signs went up awhile back. The food was delicious and there were plenty of vegetarian options. Portion sizes were very large and we accidentally ordered enough to have lunch for tomorrow, too. The mango lassi was especially lovely - sweet and smooth and it helped to cool down some of the lingering spiciness from the food. We also really enjoyed the samosa chat as an appetizer to share. It seems like they're still getting set up - the bar wasn't open yet, there were still some lingering remnants of the restaurant previously in the space, and service was a bit on the slow side as it seemed like they don't have a full staff yet. Regardless, I really enjoyed the food and the experience and I hope this place remains here for future visits! read more

This is the second time in as many weeks we've enjoyed the new Moksha Indian grill in Northbrook. The first time we saw the open signs while driving by and stopped. The food was wonderful and so were the staff. That time we had chicken vindaloo, tandoori shrimp, dal and a paneer dish (and mango lassi of course). Everything was delicious and the flavors had a really nice balance. Tonight, we decided to carry out after a busy day. Saag paneer, dal and Chana masala. Along with assorted naan. Again, delicious and well balanced. And I can't wait for lunch to have leftovers. Moksha is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I hope to soon become a regular! read more
