I was surprised with a box of Carol's Cookies! Had no idea about this company, but glad to be introduced! This rather mid-sized box arrived to my doorstep which is rather weighty. I open it and it is a gift from a place I'd made a rather large purchase. Thanks! When I opened the outer box the wonderful smell of butter and other sweet fragrances hit my nose. As I open the inner box I see four (4) huge cookies! they come wrapped in cellophane bags with a cute ribbon. There were no names of the flavored cookies, yet I took an educated guess. These cookies are the largest (In depth) cookies I have ever encountered. Thick and delicious with rich butter flavor is the best way for me to describe them. At the thickest section of the cookie - unfortunately was of a sandy milli consistency, yet the butter taste was throughout. I will say that if I am in the area of where the cookie shop is, I will definitely stop in to purchase some - as I sure hope they are clearly marked/identified. P.S. Like many things taste is subjective. So it really depends on your ideal cookie. Some like them hard others like them soft. Some like them thin, others like big cookie monster type cookies. I thoroughly enjoy a good quality gourmet cookies and try not to compare them to others that I've had. I appreciate the cookies for their own signature. I tend to not like hard cookies, overly sugary tasting or where you can taste remnants of baking soda as if the batch wasn't properly mixed. I'll say this, the cookies taste better than they look. At first glance I thought it was a biscuit! *laughing emoji* But the bite tells you everything you need to know. What you'll find here is that these cookies are HUGE, quite dense, flavor is properly balanced (not to much and not to little), the cookies are firm to the touch, yet soft to the bite which offers the best of both worlds to the cookie lovers of firm cookies and/or soft cookies. It's a happy medium. You'll want to hold your cookie pretty close to your face perhaps with a napkin or plate to catch it, as parts of it crumble with almost every bite. I called after some confusion about doing a custom order and Carol answered! After eating these cookies for 10 years, I felt like I was talking to a celebrity. I love to bake and my chocolate chip cookies are pretty good, but I cannot get close to her oatmeal raisin! FYI - and you'll thank me for this should you ever get lost in the Highland Park area trying to find Carol's during your precious lunch hour, like someone I hypothetically may or may not know who may or may not be myself - Carol's at 1480 Old Deerfield doesn't sell individual cookies. You can buy frozen dough by the dozen, but that's about it... unless you're interested in the free smells. Also, should you want bulk dough or free smells, you'll find this little hide out by turning at the Old Deerfield Business Center sign by the railroad tracks and driving over 4 speed bumps, at which point you should see a corner building marked Carol's Cookies. I tasted one of Carol's toffee crunch cookies, sold at Whole Foods for $2.39, and I had higher expectations. I was excited that Vosges toffee was used in the cookie, but it was like chewing on granules of tough sugar. Should that be a surprise if the second and third ingredients listed are white sugar and brown sugar? Maybe these bad boys would taste better fresh out of the oven, but this cookie left me thinking Carol who? Where's Mrs. Fields? read more

Carol's Cookies is a staple in this area and every time you drive by the location, you can smell the delicious aroma in the air. If you haven't had the privilidge of consuming one of the monster cookies...then you are truly missing out!!! I'm a big fan of the Brownie Cookie and Milk Chocolate Chunk!!! They are hefty cookies and make you drool as you heave them towards your mouth! Excuse me if I carry on about the Brownie Cookie - but it's ORGASMIC! I'm pretty sure that you can order them online, but nothing is better than a fresh one and they are around everywhere!!! Yes their calorie content is really high, but WHO CARES WHEN YOU'RE INDULGING IN THE SLICE OF HEAVEN THAT IS KNOWN AS A CAROL'S COOKIE?!?! These are hands down the most delicious cookies I've ever had the privilege of eating. They're huge, but it's hard to stop eating once you've taken a bite. So I always find myself (almost) finishing a cookie in one sitting. I have to actually say to myself, "Gee, Brenda, I think you should stop eating now... just one more bite..." But not because I worry about the amount of calories I'm downing, but because I want to make it last longer! My favorite is the chocolate chip, plain and with walnuts. I love sinking my teeth into these giant cookies, and I love how they make my lips feel all buttery and delicious. They're kinda hard to find in Southern California--I can only find them at Whole Foods in Tustin... I wish they carried them everywhere! I always try to spread the word about these amazing cookies because people deserve to have these cookies in their lives. I first discovered Carol's cookies back in the 1990's at the Neiman Marcus Epicurean Shop in downtown Chicago. I immediately fell in love with them! However when I stopped working in downtown Chicago, I no longer had access to these awesome cookies. Fast forward a few years and I once again found Carol's cookies at Whole Foods. Needless to say I was delighted! They are the best cookies I have ever tasted! I am saddened that some people have left poor reviews claiming that their cookies were dry and tasteless. This is not the norm. I am sure it is because they were improperly stored by the second party vendor who sold them or maybe perhaps outdated without the knowledge of the consumer. I wanted to like these cookies since they were a gift, but my wife and I both tried several flavors, and they just were not our style. For me, bigger isn't better - and these cookies were dry and tasted a bit like play dough. I received a beautifully-presented and packaged assortment of cookies as a gift from a friend. While I cannot comment on the ordering process, I can comment on the taste of the cookies and my dealing with the company after having received the tin. First, the cookie assortment shown on the inserted photo card looked amazing and included many varieties; however, the box included only some of the cookie varieties listed on the photo card (to be fair, perhaps the card shows every scenario, whilst my friend only selected the ones included). Second, the cookies were pretty delicious, so the rating I've given is because the cookies are quite good. Last, I was curious about the nutritional information as I was interested in giving tins out for Mother's Day and corporate gifts. The information on the website indicated I could email for the information. I did exactly that and received nutritional information for what appeared to be a humungous chocolate chip cookie. That's fine, but I wanted clarification, as I thought perhaps I needed to clarify what kind of cookies I was talking about so she could send me the correct information. I emailed back to inquire further about the calories (in case there was an error), and she responded to say "the information is attached." It was the exact same information. I emailed back to say I had not received anything new and have not received a response. There are a large number of people who look at this information and have allergies, etc. Update 4/18/18: Carol responded and will send the information. read more

4.5 Stars. Carol's Cookies are quite incredible. They're huge, dense and sweet, but not overly so. They actually had a bit of a salty taste to them which was interesting and welcomed. They have a good amount of chocolate chips and and are right smack in the middle between a soft cookie, and a crispy one. 15 seconds in the microwave, and they're just heavenly! Absolutely delicious! A huge hit with the fam! They deliver nationwide with "Taste Of Chicago" gift baskets! Definitely try these and definitely don't look at the nutrition info. Oh, and sorry, no photos. These are the only chocolate chip cookies I will eat besides my own. You can literally taste the butter in every mouthwatering bite. I swear these cookies have so much butter, you could rub one on an ear of corn. It boggles my mind how something so big can still be so moist, and stay that way for days, which is how long it usually takes me to eat one of these behemoths. Since I'm somewhat of a traditionalist (and anaphylactic shock notwithstanding due to my nut allergy), I've only tried the chocolate chip without nuts, but I have on good authority that each and every flavor is a masterpiece unto itself. I've never been to Carol's home base in Highland Park. All of Carol's damage to me has come through her Whole Foods distributorship. I generally try not to comment on other reviews, but complaining that a dessert item has too many calories is about the dumbest fucking thing I've read on this website. Did you think a cookie that takes an entire day to eat would be good for you? You morons. I think you have to really like cookie dough to fully appreciate a Carol's cookie. Everyone likes cookie dough, obviously, but this might be for people who prefer cookie dough to actual cookies. It's really, really soft. Butter abounds. If you have one of these in addition to a meal, and you're the stubborn type who insists on finishing everything, you're in for a fight with one of these monsters. read more

Eating a pound of butter has NEVER been tastier. Really, these are the greatest cookies that I didn't bake. The best thing about these cookies is they are as big as a small baby's head but they are still chewy. I get a foodgasm just thinking about them. BEST COOKIES EVER :O super thick with such a wonderful buttery, unique taste to them, regardless of the flavor you get. The chocolate chip is my favorite, but their snickerdoodle is ridiculous too. Last year I was at a sort of fundraising event where tons of local bakeries had tables set up with their bakery items and you could go around sampling them all!! That was SOOO fun in itself! BUT I almost fell over in happiness at seeing that Carol's Cookies had a table there!! I must have gone back close to ten times for more cookies. THEY ARE INSANE. Not until later in the evening did I find out that the person standing behind that booth was CAROL herself!! Someone who knew her introduced me and I was star-struck. Such a sweet lady, no pun intended ;) With that established, I should warn you that this address is just the site where they make the cookies and then use them to fill online orders and to distribute them to grocery stores in the vicinity and what-not. I don't believe they have an actual little bakery, where you could go in and buy a cookie to enjoy in the shop - her brand is just sold at stores in the area. CAROL! You are my friend and my foe. Your cookies are devilishly delicious. They're also jam packed with flavor and calories, just the way a proper cookie should be. If you live near a Whole Foods or other upscale grocery establishment that may sell Carol's Cookies, consider yourself lucky (or doomed if you're a cookie monster like me). Carol makes some of my favorite cookies on the planet and they are the huge (4 servings in one cookie) and perfect. 800 calories worth of perfection, folks. Maybe it's best to split Carol's Cookies...or maybe consider it a meal replacement. Some of the flavors I've sampled: Peanut Butter Chocolate: One of the drier cookies but mouth-watering nonetheless. The ratio of peanut butter to chocolate chunk is fantastic. Toffee Crunch: My current fave as the cookie hosts large pieces of not-too-chewy toffee. I will not share this one. Chocolate Chip: Classic and the right amount of crunch and softness. Kitchen Sink: While I wouldn't turn this cookie down, it's not my fave in the bunch. Flavor wise it doesn't stand up to the Toffee Crunch or PB Chocolate. Well, there you have. However today for the first time (after over a year of consuming them) I read the nutritional info on one of the packaged chocolate chip cookies and OMG, I am shocked. I do understand Carol's Cookies are made with pure butter and chocolate but seriously, one cookie is marked as FOUR SERVINGS@ 200 calories each so if you accidentally eat a whole one of these you consume 800 CALORIES AND 32 GRAMS OF FAT with 20 grams being saturated fat not to mention 68 GRAMS of sugar. gulp. I consider this to be incredibly irresponsible marketing and packaging-who is thinking that ONE cookie would ever be considered to be 4 servings??! I am proof that no one even wants to look at the "nutritional" info. because they know it will be bad but in 2014, numbers like that are ridiculous. read more

Tonight I was inspired to write this review after I saw a new review of Carol's Cookies. So, I read what others had written. It's basically all the same: this is a superb product and brand. Who doesn't love Carol's Cookies? What's not to love, right? Here is my personal Carol's Cookies experience: A few years ago a friend brought over what seemed like a ton (not just one tin) of Carol's Cookies for dessert. We put them out on the table, and many were eaten. But, oh so good, many more were put in the freezer for future enjoyment. And enjoy them I did. Carol's Cookies was directly responsible for my poor sleep hygiene for many weeks after that dinner. On an almost nightly basis, I would wait until the house was silent, sneak downstairs to the kitchen, sieze the Carol's Cookies, remove two of those huge cookies from the container, get out some ice cream and go to work. I would open the Trib, a magazine or a book, microwave the cookies, and then eat them with ice cream atop while reading into the wee hours. I kicked that habit and have never voluntarily purchased Carol's Cookies for my own personal consumption; I have enough self-control to avoid them and those stinking calories that come along with them. I have, however, purchased Carol's Cookies as gifts for others. This product is a no-lose gift proposition!!!!! It's like that old Sara Lee slogan: "Nobody doesn't like Carol's Cookies." read more

These are a very special cookie - obviously not the kind you would eat every day and obviously not the kind the average person could finish in one sitting. They are absolutely delicious though, and well worth the treat! We gave out the white chocolate macadamia nut cookies as our wedding favors in 2008. We bought two cases in bulk for our wedding of 130, and I was pleasantly surprised by how little the cost worked out per person. Seriously, an almost half pound cookie for each guest? I am sure people thought I spent much more than I did - such a big bang for a very reasonable buck! I wrapped them up in cute cellophane bags with a thank you tag, and they were waiting on the plate of each guest as they arrived at their table. Anyway, the cookies were one of the highlights of our reception and people still talk about them 4 years later. I have ordered Carol's Cookies on various occasions in the last few years, which always brings back special memories of our big day. I would definitely recommend these cookies to anyone! read more

Bought a couple of Gilt City Coupons for Carol's cookies. Totally forgot about them until Gilt emailed me 2 weeks ago about them, so I put my first order in. They arrived promptly and were well received by my co-workers. They're big, tasty & can easily be shared. Where they've fallen down in my books is their redemption policy on these Coupons I bought. I used 1 & have 1 left, but the coupon expired yesterday, November 15th, so I called Carol, being that I'm local and offered to pick them up. No deal, she wouldn't allow me to redeem the credit for the full credit just 11 hours beyond the expiration - I would have thought there'd be 3 days grace or at least 24 hours - something came up, I was out of town, etc, but no. Her answer to me was "Reach back to Gilt and see if they'll give you a refund". That's not really how I would handle this type of customer request. Guess their won't be a repeat order Carol, from me, nor any of my friends. read more

These are the greatest cookies I've ever had. Sure they're big and one cookies serves about 3 people... but they also taste amazing. The sugar cookies are my favorite but I'm also really liking the chocolate chip and dried cherry cookies. The cherry chunks are nice and big and you can really taste them. Given the vast amounts of sugar and butter in them I only have these cookies about twice a year. I'd eat them everyday if I could though! read more

Cookies are decent (a little saltier than expected and kind of dry) but nutrition info is very misleading. Calorie count is 200 per serving, but if you look closer it says there are 4 servings in the package. Let's be real--absolutely no one is going to split one cookie into 4 pieces. Just put the nutrition information per cookie on the package so people don't get 3/4 of the way through a cookie before realizing they just inhaled 600 calories. read more

The best cookies ever!!! The company that I work for received about 10 gift tins at Christmas time. They arrived at about 4 p.m. and were gone (completely gone!!) by 5. They taste fresh, like they were just baked. They are so rich and so very bad for you, which is what makes them so good.
