I've been to this bakery several times. The selection is great, the service is outstanding, and each product looks scrumptious. However, the past few times I've ordered from there, the products have been somewhat underwhelming. Got two kolaczki's and both were very dry. Also got a slice of German chocolate cake and it was dry, too sweet, and tasted old. The doughnuts are generally very good as well as the coffee cakes. But the pastries do not taste as good as they look behind the counter. I admit, I did arrive about 20 minutes before closing, but that should not affect the taste that much. read more

Couple small signs I caught over by the fresh stuff saying price tags reflect cash price, but yet didn't see prices anywhere other than on shelves by boxed stuff. Have prices posted. French silk pie was very thick and not very chocolaty. No one really cared for it, def would not get again. This particular visit, I was shopping because I had won a $20 gift card from a local trivia night. I decided to get some butter rings because they were $1 off for a Friday special. I also snagged a 1/2 price bag of butter cookies to make sure I used up the entirety of the gift card in one visit. Also, it was comical how the butter cookies offset the giant butter rings. I am aware of their card over cash policy, but I was surprised that I was charged $1.70 of my $20 gift card for swiping it (I paid the remainder of my bill cash) because for my brain, it is a cash equivalent. The butter rings--we are chocolate chip, mini M&M, and sprinkle--were buttery and delicious. They paired perfectly with coffee and a cold glass of milk. The butter cookies were also nice! read more

I usually only come here when it's time for Paczki fest at Central Continental Bakery. I love that they offer a bunch of specialty flavors on top of the traditional Paczkis. A work friend of #1 daughter claimed paczki heaven was located in Mount Prospect. How could this be? Smack in the middle of the paczki festive time, we made our way to the MP bakery. There was convenient parking (spaces available) with vehicles coming and going. As we approached the store, there was a stream of customers entering. Inside, numbers were available to be taken. Quickly, we placed our order for several varieties of paczki. Just as quickly the friendly server filled our order. Everything in the store looked quality and looked fresh. The bad thing about not knowing how to bake is that you also have to roll the dice with the many local or commercial bakers who also make cakes. Continental bakery is by far one of the highest quality bakeries in Chicago if not this region. We have purchased many cakes from many other bakers and none of them come even close to the quality, and construction of their delicacies that you will find here. My dad lives in assisted living and was dying for a coffee cake. My go to bakery is Jarosh in Elk Grove but they are closed for relocating. A co-worker recommended Central Continental. I went there on Saturday, January 24, 2026. I purchased a raspberry coffee cake and some butter cookies. Both had a weird aftertaste. The butter cookies did not taste buttery, like they should. I don't know if they used margarine or some other substitute oil but they were bad. I brought them to work and three of my co-workers, including the one that recommended this bakery, tasted them. They agreed with me. They did not taste right. For $16 for a half pound I am eating them. I will now wait patiently for Jarosh to re-open before getting another coffee cake and cookies. Sorry Continental, I cannot recommend you. The staff was very nice and helpful. Place was clean but again, the product was not good. I love my sweets but this soured me on them. Everything is baked fresh daily and they have a huge variety of ready made all occasion decorated cakes, donuts, cookies, candies, coffee cakes and breads! Everything is made in house and they have daily specials too. From the taste of all the items we have had there, they are made with premium ingredients and they are generous with fillings in donuts and cakes. We love the almond strip and the crumb cakes. They are packed with delicious fillings and the danish dough is nice, flaky and soft. Sadly, a lot of good bakeries in the area have closed shop but this one is still running thankfully! Many bakeries seem to come and go in this area every few years, but Central Continental has definitely withstood the test of time. They offer a great assortment of goods from cookies to cakes to breadsticks to donuts to muffins. Maybe the only drawback of the bakery is its small sized compared to the amount of business they receive. They always seem to be fairly busy everytime I visit, though the lines moves fairly quickly with the help of friendly and knowledgeable staff. This is necessary as there are quite a bit of options to choose from here, which in general all taste good. If you can, give their cakes and cupcakes a try. It's somewhat difficult to find such a complete set of cakes outside of here and Deerfield's Bakery, and I think you'll be pleased with the results. Overall, good prices, good flavors, and good service make this bakery an easy recommendation to anyone who lives in the area. read more

Brought the kids here on 12/31 to pick out some stuff for a small family gathering (aka Covid-belated Christmas) and it was bustling! We got doughnuts for that day and decorated cookies for the next. I came back a couple weeks later on a weekday, and it was much quieter. They have delicious stuff at great value. Lots of options of small and medium sized items. The pecan roll is top drawer, and I can also recommend the cake doughnuts, gingerbread cookies, and cherry strudel. The apple fritter is very nice; I consider myself a connoisseur and while it wouldn't top my list, I would definitely eat this again (and again, etc). Another item about them--they bailed us out with a wedding cake back in 2011! I did not realize that it was the same place until I looked at this listing. Long story short, our wedding cake vendor shut its doors with no notice the week of our wedding, and our caterer reached out to Central Continental for help. We had also ordered two birthday cakes from here. So when we were looking for a wedding cake, they were in our top 3 choices. After professional email communications that had us pick them over other bakeries, they completely ghosted us a week and a half before the wedding. The wedding contact I had communicated with had given me her phone number and instructed me to call, but she never picked up or returned my voicemail msges or emails. This put us in an extremely stressful situation that I would not recommend for any bride or groom to experience. I ordered a spumoni cake from here for my bday, and it looked stunning! The outside of the cake was left "naked" (not covered in icing), so you could see the distinctive layers of yellow and chocolate cake, along with the pink cherry, green pistachio, and brown chocolate mousse layers. It was an additional $3 to add a marzipan placard on top of the cake with bday message, but it's worth the touch and the nice cursive handwriting! I only wish there was more flavor to the cake. And for the past 10ish years, I've only missed one or two years and that was because I was out of town for Paczki fest and/or had some kind of scheduling issue. CCB consistently churns out Paczki--traditional kinds and other dream like flavor confections to help you make the most out of Fat Tuesday. They have paczki all year round, and other great bakery items, but when it comes to our Fat Tuesday tradition, you dont mess with tradition. Lately, I've been pre-ordering online--you can choose the date and time for pick up. And although this last time I pre-ordered, I had a bit of FOMO and asked if I could add their newest flavor, Dreamsicle, to my batch and it was no problem. Service is super friendly and happy to help. Even if you pre-order, expect a line when you come to pick up your order. This year was maybe 20 min. I usually pick up for my family too and our favorites are the lemon, fresh strawberry, strawberry with whipped cream. The grandma likes prune and apricot so I always get those for her. This is my go-to spot for donuts. I have been coming here for a few years now and they consistently have the best pastries. I have ordered donuts, cinnamon buns, italian cookies, and paczki. Everything I have had from here has been great quality and absolutely delicious. The gem for me is the Chocolate Lover's Dream paczki that they have during Paczki Fest. The sad thing is that it's only available during that limited time period. It is basically chocolate mousse between two pieces of chocolate paczki with chocolate frosting on top. If you like chocolate, this is one of the most amazing pastries you will ever have. This place isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for.
