Hamentashen like my mom and I made in the 70's ! DELISH. YOTAIR TOV.
Steve H.

Every time I've been here, the ladies at Shalom Bakery provide the greatest customer service. Every cookie, brownie, challah is traditional, made with love, geschmacht/delish! Prices are reasonable for what you're getting. Just beware, that it's cash only and the hours are limited for retail sales. Just make the effort to get there when they're open, and there is a Chase Bank a few blocks away if you need cash.

We have some nut allergies in my house that are so severe, neither of my daughters have ever stepped foot inside a bakery. That was, until Shalom changed all that. Located in Buffalo Grove, it was a haul from the city. For my daughter's 9th bday, I surprised her by bringing her here and letting her pick out whatever she wanted. We went a little crazy, but I'm so grateful we did because everything was phenomenal. Like not just good, spectacular. The chocolate coffee cake was big and I thought, there's no way we'll finish that. I was wrong. The Rugela was buttery and flaky. Perfection. The sprinkle cookies were so nostalgic of my childhood growing up in West Rogers Park with the Jewish bakeries galore. They just don't have enough places like this around anymore and to be nut and dairy free on top of that is just icing on the cake (excuse the pun). The owners were so kind and sweet to my daughters, even giving them each a free smiley face cookie. In terms of Covid protocol, they have it down to a science. No one enters the store. Everything is displayed on a table at the entrance. People were socially distanced and there was hand sanitizer on both sides of the table. I just can't rave enough about my new find. We will most definitely be back! The only bummer is they close at noon and I'm not much of a morning person, but I'll get up and moving early enough if it means chocolate coffee cake is waiting for me!

Put these in the microwave for 15 seconds before eating... AMAZING!

My husband is always on the look out for a good bagel in the area so we decided to check this place out. Right now (during COVID) you can't really go in the store, it is one in and one out, with all the goods pre-packaged. They had a lot of options to choose from, but it didn't quite seem like they had their full menu available when we were there. While there I grabbed a pack of mish-mosh (everything) bagels and two chocolate chip coffee cake pastries (honestly not entirely sure what they were, they just looked good so I grabbed them). The bagels were very good, but just a little on the softer side in terms of consistency, which I like but I know some people like the outside to be a little crustier. I put my chocolate chip pastry in the microwave for 15 seconds before eating and it made it just a little warm and the chocolate a little melty and it was SO GOOD. The couple downsides are that the hours are very limited and that they only accept cash or personal check, so be sure you check the hours before going and if you're normally a credit card person be sure to come with cash.

I am not much into sweets but pretty much everything from here is spectacular. Liat, the owner is a darling to deal with. You must try the poppy seed cake. You basically owe it to yourself. Everything is always fresh. Plenty of parking too.

Making sure my kids love all foods. The toddler loves their cookies and I'm obsessed with their breads. Especially their egg bagel

We love this place~ You can smell the sugar before you walk in to the bakery which is a huge draw for me knowing they bake onsite. Everything is made day of. I love coming in and seeing the shop owner. She remembers us and has a free cookie for my toddler before we even get to the door. You can tell she is a sweet Grandmother. This is a place to go for anything. Need some Challah for amazing french toast or a holiday diner, come here. If you need to bring breakfast in for your co-workers, I'd recommend the poppy-seed or chocolate danish. (This bakery has egg bagels that compete with NY bagels.) I pick up their freshly baked box of cookies as thank-yous all the time. This bakery is incredibly inexpensive. We are so lucky to have a local bakery like Shalom Bakery.

Great bakery. Excellent bagels and cakes. Good pricing. Only downside is their hours, closed too many days.

Our guests always rave about everything I serve, and I receive compliments every time. Beyond the delicious baked goods, the customer service is impeccable. At the Buffalo Grove store, one employee truly stands out...Keigo. I have been going to Deerfields Bakery for decades; I just realized that it is not "Deerfield" or…read more"Deerfield's", but "Deerfields". Before we fell in love with the mousse cakes of another bakery that's just minutes from home, we used to order most of our birthday cakes from Deerfields, and picked up at the location in Deerfield. In addition to cakes, they specialize in a full line of baked goods, including pastries, cookies, cupcakes, pies, danishes, donuts, muffins, bagels, and more. Recently, I needed to order a small 4" cake for the first time ever, since all of us didn't want a large cake, even a 6" cake would be too much, because I am usually the one to finish all the cake leftovers. Also, there were only about 3 days for the bakery to make the cake, our other bakery needs 7 days, and probably would not make a 4" cake. I knew that Deerfields could do it in 48 hours. I was pleased that I could order on their website, although their choices for 4" cakes were very limited. I picked a velvet cake with cream cheese filling and buttercream frosting ($30.95). However, it has 4 layers and serves 6-8, we would still have leftovers. This time, I chose to pick up at the Deerfields in Buffalo Grove, where I had visited a couple of times, and I like this location much better than the one in Deerfield. It is like a storybook bakery to me! The bakery is picture perfect inside and out, visually appealing with lots of vibrant colors and beautiful displays. When I visited, the spacious bakery was festively decorated, which was quite charming. There's also a café inside, with some tables on the first floor, and the entire cozy second floor dedicated to café dining. The café serves breakfast and lunch Wednesday through Sunday. Like many other bakeries, Deerfields is closed on Mondays. On this weekday when I came around noon, the bakery was bustling. I would give this experience 5 stars for both the cake we ordered and the excellent service we received, especially from Greg, who greeted me as soon as I walked in. The customer service team had emailed me suggestions for decorating the small cake, and I replied with my specific requirements. However, it seemed that my reply had not been read. I needed the center of the top filled with more roses so the design would not look like a wreath. In the future, I will follow up with a phone call to confirm the details. One staff member from the bake room (Brianca?) came out and explained that it could be done, but I would need to wait an hour because all the bakers had just gone on break. I agreed and said I would return to pick it up. Just as I was about to leave, Greg came out from the bake room with the good news that a baker was available to do it right away. In the end, I only spent about 10 to 15 minutes waiting, which I used to take photos around the shop. The cake turned out beautiful and delicious, moist and velvety. I myself didn't care that much for the thick buttercream frosting, but the cream cheese filling was quite good. Since we had the cake after a big dinner, we all opted for small pieces. However, all of us didn't mind eating leftover cakes the next day. When we crave for a more traditional cake in the future, we will definitely return to Deerfields again!

It's a family-owned, grab and go kind of bakery with all the classics. Churros, elote, conchas, and plenty of other panadería favorites. But if there's ONE thing I keep coming back for... It's their tres leches. You can call ahead and order a full sheet cake, or grab an individual slice like the one pictured here. And let me tell you--the cake is SOAKED in milk, exactly how I like my tres leches! Some places are way too stingy with the milk, but Lupita's Bakery does not hold back. The cake is incredibly moist without becoming soggy. The icing is also super light and airy, almost like whipped cream, which I LOVE. And somehow, with all that sweetness, it's not overly sweet at all. Everything just works perfectly together.

There's a nice refrigerated area with tres leches cake slices, flan, and pop. It's a true panaderia with la concha of different choices (a few times they were really dry and crumbly), cookies (tasted stale the past 3 times), and the churros (ALWAYS the win here)!!! The churros are delicious when they're freshly made - regular cinnamon sugar, filled with chocolate or vanilla. THIS is why I come here! Some of the pastries are hit or miss, maybe depends on when I'm stopping in? The churros however are always good and keeps me coming back. Plus I can't walk into a Mexican bakery and not leave with a la concha or other goodies.

Raspberry or apricot, and baked in different shapes so you know what's what. Clever... and delicious. The edges were definitely a bit dry but once I hit the jam it was perfect! She helped clarify some questions I had like is the Swiss cheese on the Paris Special, American Swiss or Emmental since Swiss cheese is only an American thing. It is American Swiss for those asking. When in Rome I guess. The Paris Special is diced ham, eggs, and Swiss cheese on a croissant. I also ordered the diced potatoes with onion. The sandwich was good. Eggs were cooked perfectly, ham was diced out of a bag by the texture of it... it was fine. The croissant was very buttery, but I felt it was so buttery, it lost some exterior texture a fresh croissant may have. The potatoes were very tasty, but were dripping in oil on the plate. One thing that seemed to surprise me was me was the unsweetened iced tea. I felt it had black currant in it. That was lovely! Overall, this place is good. The price was not so great. But it is definitely cheaper than a trip to Paris.
