I just want to give a shout out to Spunky Dunkers for making Paczki Day 2026 the best yet for my family! As the person who has to order them, pick them up, and deliver them to the respective households, I really appreciated them having a dedicated "Paczki hotline" to pre-order, a very organized pick-up area, and heavily filled treats. Between my grandma and her best friend, my boyfriend, my daughter, my parents, and one of my very good friends and her two kidd-os, there were chocolate Bavarian, cookies and cream, strawberry cheese, cherry, blueberry, lemon cheese, and Elvis paczkis consumed. I don't love paczki so I didn't order one for myself, but did try samples of the cookies and cream, lemon cheese, and Elvis paczkis--if I were to order one next year, I would order the Elvis! It is peanut butter with peanut pieces, stuffed with banana. The banana filling was reminiscent of delicious banana pudding! The price was economical compared to the bakery located in the "downtown" area, the flavors were plentiful, and like I said, the acquisition process was so easy! And I got a fun Mardi Gras necklace to rock for the remainder of the day! 10/10, will order from them again! read more

The donuts here are okay. They're big and full of filling and usually the regular donuts are okay too. However, on paczki day I ordered three of them and they weren't cheap. They were almost $4 dollars each and unfortunately there was hardly any filling in them. My lemon filled paczki had almost no filling in it, which was a huge disappointment. They do have different creative donuts filled with unique fillings and the lines are always long here, but maybe it's because it's kind of one of the only unique donut shops around that area. Ever since the Arlington Heights location of Spunky Dunkers closed down, I haven't really had that many chances to come to this location nearly as much as I had hoped. I used to like going to the Arlington Heights location. But in any case, in my recent visit to this Palatine location, I picked up five donuts. Two of those donuts were their classic kind (Apple Crisp and Blueberry), two were from their Showcase Delight special (Bier Mich! and Salzkaramell Brezeln), and one was a maple-bacon donut ring. I really liked their donuts variety and the service was good. It was mid-afternoon on Saturday and they had a good amount of donuts along with their nice variety on hand. More donuts were being made in the kitchen as you could see from the glass window from the shop. As I have had their donuts before, I knew what to expect and there were no exceptions this time. This is one of the best donuts shops around in the suburbs. They make good quality and flavor donuts. Their Blueberry, Bavarian, Coconut, Lemon, Old Fashioned, etc. are among my favorites. Without question the donuts are amazing, however I stopped twice this week to get donuts a dozen or two for the team, and they were completely out of honey dipped donuts. Not once but twice, stopped by on Tuesday at 7:00AM and today on Thursday at 715AM. That is like a burger joint not having a hamburger bun, and the reply is sorry we don't have any. I drive 20 minutes the wrong way to get the donuts my team loves, and both times came back with no spunky dunker donuts. To not have the most popular donut at this time of the day is a joke. I googled other places and found a place called Parlor Donuts, and they were expensive, but had a full variety of donuts, and my team loved them. Will give Spunky one more shot next week, if they don't have the most popular donut will stop wasting my gas and time and spend the extra (lot more) at Parlor. Little ol' school donut shop run by teenagers (that were doing an awesome job!). Their line is confusing- they want it starting to the left but then you order to the far right and pay in the middle (???)- but thankfully it wasn't super crowded when we popped in with our three kiddos. The donuts are SO cheap. A few only cost us $1.50! The only donut we were disappointed in was the cake donut, otherwise the apple fritter was a literal 12/10 AMAZING as was the Bavarian cream. My kiddos enjoyed the sprinkle and gummy bear varieties. Seating is stool based and they do have a bathroom, too. I don't think we would drive out of our way to go here, but if we were anywhere nearby we would definitely stop! read more

It's cozy, people are constantly coming back and they have solid well crafted donuts. They are not a fancy/unique type of 'olive oil and feta cheese' type of place - they provide all the old school donut vibes and quality. Definitely my favorite place in the area. Here is another 24 hour donut shop located in Palatine. I came on July 4th around 10 in the morning. It was quite busy and there was not any organization with the line or service. Two people where taking orders and I waited patiently for the woman working to acknowledge my presence and take my order. She never did look up my way as I stood to the right of the counter. Hard to say if it was intentional or not, but the guy working finally took my order several customers later. I got home and began to indulge in my donuts. I can't say enough about this place! Other then, whoever manages or owns it, they really know what they're doing. This place has been in business for quite some time now and I remember every Friday when I would go to my church vigils this was the place to go afterwards. Open 24/7 and still have freshly made donuts. That's huge for me. I like food freshly done. This are not frozen. I've seen them make them when I go early in the morning to grab some for my kiddos. Spotted this place on my way to a friend's house in the suburbs, so I decided to stop and pick up a dozen. Spunky is open 24 hours. I haven't seen a 24 hour establishment since the pandemic, so it was definitely exciting. The decor is giving diner vs. donut shop, but it's still cozy nonetheless. There's a large booth for seating, so feel free to grab a donut, a coffee, and dine-in. Service was friendly and efficient. There was somewhat of a line and only one person working behind the counter, but orders were being fulfilled quickly. The donuts were delicious and fresh. I asked for a dozen of their most popular donuts and that did not disappoint. My favorite one was by far the red velvet. This is the only Spunky Dunkers donut shop still in business and we are glad it is.  I really liked the dozen various donuts we picked on a Saturday night at 7pm for a post BBQ dinner dessert. It's a 24/7 business and we could see them preparing another batch of fresh donuts.  They also had a nice assortment ready and available.  I picked up a dozen for just $14.19.  Besides being a great dollar value, the donuts were all quite fresh and delicious.  There was pretty good if sporadic traffic through here also at this very non-prime time.   I would normally have made it 5 stars for this inaugural visit here but I need to deduct a star only because the attendant turned down the Yelp check-in offer of $2 off a purchase of a dozen.  He semi-automatically said the promo was only good for Mondays and Wednesdays when I showed him the app.   It didn't state such and I've never heard of that but I wasn't going quibble over $2.  I will say that on principle I don't like businesses not honoring their ads, period.  So the note to management is take down the ad or train your employees.  Thinking back, I'm thinking he may have mixed up the Yelp promo with another one they may have out, but whatever. read more

I had to leave another review for Spunky. I don't live in Palatine anymore so unfortunately I don't get to Spunky as often as I use to. I'm in Chicago so it's a little bit of a commute, but it was someone special's birthday and I wanted to surprise them in the morning with their favorite donuts. I arrived Friday morning at around 8:30 AM, and although they had several flavors available, they unfortunately didn't have the specific one I came for (chocolate iced raised donuts). They told me they wouldn't have any for 2-3 hours and I was just so disappointed because it killed my plan and I knew I wasn't going to be able to make the drive back. Well after going to two more donut shops that were also out of raised donuts, I was going to lose my mind. I desperately gave Spunky a call and asked if I can place an order for pick up, they told me that I can just walk-in and they will have donuts available, but I let them know I don't live locally and I already made the drive in the morning and they didn't have any of the flavor I wanted so I was nervous they'd sell out again. They told me they would put a dozen to the side for me. When I got there the staff was so friendly and the man that helped me on the phone had the biggest smile on his face and told the cashier that I had a far drive so he took care of me. He gave me a free box of four fresh donuts when I purchased the dozen! They were all packed with my name on them ready to go. I wanted to cry happy tears - how trivial to be that stressed about donuts but I just trying to do something thoughtful for someone. The birthday girl was ecstatic and they were some of the freshest Spunky donuts she ever had. They were so pillowy and soft and fluffy and the icing was still slightly damp. Spunky Dunkers doesn't sell paczki often, and I think it might as well be a crime for them not to. When it's Mardi Gras, though, donuts are not even part of the equation. You'll see dozens flocked in the building only for the paczki: beloved plump orbs of fried dough, stuffed with any type of fruity or custard filling your heart desires. Once you're inside the shop, you'll feel the tense and chaotic rush - customers waiting in line, staff fulfilling/boxing orders, and pastry chefs bringing out trays of hot and fresh batches to replenish the lack thereof. And then, you get your hands on a box. If you can picture how easy it is to squish and pull apart cotton candy - and imagine it a little bit denser - you may (just may) be able to grasp just how soft these paczki actually are. When you tear it in half, you'll be able to feel the warmth of the dough on your fingertips, uncover its supernatural lightness and fluffiness, and witness that sweet, thick custard slowly spilling out. Of the four we ordered, my personal favorite was the plain cheese-filled. I don't see anything wrong with calling it monumental. Its texture was soft, but yields to that tiny bit of chewiness underneath that can stretch over your tongue. The sweetness and richness of the cheese custard cuts through the slight tang, and rest assured the powdered sugar wasn't overwhelming at all. Under normal circumstances, these mouthfuls of cream infused deep fried pastries would overwhelm you with guilt, but when you're at Spunky Dunkers on Mardi Gras, you're going to finish your entire order in one sitting. This was the best paczki I've ever had - which makes you think, maybe I will stop in for a donut sometime. read more
