Stopped in today to get a warm drink because it was a bit chilly and ended up leaving with several pastries as well. I got their cinnamon chai, which was amazing. That alone was worth the five stars. The pastries were ok, but they wouldn't be the reason I stopped here. They sell bread and I'd be interested in trying that, but what I'm really looking forward to is paczki day--it's an old school Polish bakery, and I expect they know how to do a good paczki! They aren't just a grab-and-go place; they have several tables around and they have some food beyond the pastries. I saw them preparing a sandwich or two, and they had some pepperoni pizza and savory pastries when I was here. Sweet tooth kicked in after a morning hockey skate out in Rosemont. Yelp quickly answered with amazing bread and cakes. Right on the corner opposite the metra with plenty of street parking. When I entered I knew it was going to be good. Plenty of housemade breads and cakes throughout the shop. The ladies were super nice and accommodating. In and out in no time. You could sit inside to hangout too. I went with the slice of chocolate raspberry and the pistachio chocolate tart. Chocolate raspberry slice was very moist and full of raspberry with every bite. i was a little disappointed here given the high reviews the layout of the entire ordering system is really weird here. there is a sign you can't take any pictures which is understandable as the staff does not want to be in them but it's hard to know what i want before i go in. the showcase of the pastries is hard to see as well and some of the items are on the other side of the register. we tried a couple of their items -whole wheat sourdough bread: we really really enjoyed this. it was delicious! - fried sauerkraut/myshroom pierogi: i got this because it was something i've never had. i thought it was ok.i like sauerkraut in general but the crust wasn't warmed up and flaky -we tried a couple of their cookies but nothing to write home about -i wanted to try their spinach cake and some reviewers said it was a must try but they sold it by the slab which was expensive especially if i didn't like it i would go back for the sourdough bread but i felt the ratings were too high for my experience read more

Beautiful little bakery in the heart of downtown Des Plaines. Everything we had was delicious. My husband got the almond pretzel croissant, I got a spinach quiche and we shared a blueberry scone. We took a loaf of Parmesan sourdough home. It was still too hot and fresh that they could cut it for us, but that just spoke to how fresh it was. There was a line but it moved very quickly with everyone working behind the counter. We waited less than 5 minutes to order. They were kind and efficient. These were okay, where it was more dough/bread heavy than the filling. The one filled with apples was my favorite out of the three. I also had a mocha, but this was forgettable - it seemed slightly watered down and not strong. Service was friendly, and there a handful of tables to enjoy your beverage and treats; however, most seem to get their orders to go. I was running errands near the Amazing Breads and Cakes Bakery and it happened to be Paczki Day. At 11am I went in and got in a small line of maybe 5 people ahead of me. I was enjoying looking at all of the beautiful goodies behind the glass and appreciated the quaint vintage feel of this small shop. There are a couple of sitting areas to enjoy your coffee and pastry. I began hearing that they were out of the coveted treat on this special day. I get it. There is a huge rush for the famous Paczki. But then the girl behind the counter told me people came in and bought huge amounts. One person bought 90. She said another person bought 4 dozen. I kind of felt like they should have been told to place their orders and come back when they were ready instead of literally buying them out. I guess it was a judgement call... I picked up some macarons and breakfast pizza for my son and his wife. I tried a spinach souffle' that was incredible. If I lived closer, I might just have a favorite breakfast spot. They warmed up the pastries and brought them out to our table pretty quickly. I was surprised the pastries were so good. The croissants were so flakey and delightful. The spinach quiche had a lovely crust. I completely forgot to take pictures because I was in a rush and starving, but I also saw a security sign that said no camera allowed. I wish they had more savory pastry options with meat, but the ham and cheese croissant was all they had when I visited. Since I discovered this amazing bakery and their wonderful sourdough bread I came back from work to grab more bread for the weekend and they sliced it and I got a couple sandwiches and the option to have it put on their country white was wonderful. Truly I will come back if I ever need a whole bunch of amazing baked goods because I did get a piece of their German chocolate cake on my first visit and it was just as amazing as the customer service At the counter.
