Italian Bakery is the best Italian bakery in all of Chicagoland-hands down. From the quality of the pastries to the service-it cannot be beat. My family and I are originally from New Jersey, and since moving to Chicago 15 years ago, I've had to bring back 1-2 lbs of rainbow cookies every time I visited home--until now. My kids absolutely love your rainbow cookies. My son's birthday is right after Christmas, and he recently asked for a rainbow cookie cake. We called the bakery during the busy holiday season, and despite the high demand, your team was kind enough to fulfill our order for his post-holiday birthday. The cake was perfect: perfectly moist, with the ideal balance of apricot and raspberry jam, and just the right amount of chocolate--not too thick or too thin. It was a huge success, but more importantly, your kindness in making it happen was the greatest part. The entire staff was sincere and helpful. I've been going here since 1989. I bought my wedding cake from here in 1992. Both of my boys birthdays and baptism to 1st communion right to their wedding cakes. This weekend we are celebrating my youngest 30th and we are ordering a cannoli cake.. I love how every milestone or celebration we have, they are always there with us. Oh yes!!!!! The BEST Italian bakery!!! 100% authentic!! This is my favorite place. Fanni #1. She always takes great care of us. We feel like family every time we go in there. Fanni always goes above and beyond for us. I've always had the opportunity to choose Italian bakery as the place where to get cakes or pastries. They really went above and beyond for the 100 people cake for my son's baptism. They did an amazing job and were also able to deliver it to the banquet hall. That helped tremendously. The cake was delicious and fresh. They never have anything that is not fresh. This is an Italian place but it is so good and authentic that anyone can love the taste it brings. Love this place, never will I go anywhere else. Buonissimo e bravissimi! read more

If you haven't tried this place out you're missing out. I can't put into words the quality they use for their products is very much noticeable. The service is great! The women there were so kind and hospitable that I could have stayed there all day. I got cookies and a cannoli cake which both sooo good. You really get that old school Italian feeling. The most amazing bakery in local suburbs. Don't be deceived by the simple exterior. It has an huge assortment of different cookies, biscotti, pastries, and cakes. Each pastry is made from scratch and is made of magical goodness. Depending on what your preference of sweetness is, there's a different pastry to suit your taste. I have ordered from this bakery for 37 years and the last cake I ordered was horrible. I ordered a cannoli filling with fresh strawberries and I got a strawberry jelly. If they are trying to cut cost they can't change the original recipe. They just lost a customer. read more

This is based off real time. My patient recommended me this bakery and wanted to get my partner some tiramisu. Mind you, it's cash ONLY. The tiramisu is $2.75 so take note. The service was quick but I only had $10 with me. I asked for 5 but then asked for 4 then 3 because of the cash I had. The server was talking to another customer in Italian and was already distracted. Once I saw the price, I told her only 3. She gave me this weird and impatient look and was very rude. Hence why I took 1 star off. It's prolly good food, just very hostile environment if you're not Italian. Update: taste wise the tiramisu is a little on the drier side and has a small layer of chocolate in the bottom. I would prefer going to pasta fresh in Chicago since that tiramisu is a little more moist and fresh. read more

Super disappointed. DRY DRY DRY! Picked up a cannoli cake 10 inch from here since our joint party was in Addison - despite us living over an hour away... we decided to go with the Italian bakery based on the many local fans we know and the RAVING positive cannoli reviews online only to be extremely disappointed. No one would eat it- it was that dry. We picked it up on a Sunday, they are closed Monday, I attempted to call Tuesday to let them know about the cake, started mentioning to the woman who answered the phone, she put me on hold... I waited... I waited over 15 min before I hung up the phone, called back just to be put on hold again... I wasn't going to wait anymore. Hopefully it was a one off, sucks it was for us, but I will never order again from here based on our entire experience now. Poor service. I should have stuck with Weber for the cannoli cake. read more

I visited Italian Bakery this morning to buy pastries for my brother's birthday party. The way all of the cookies, pastries and breads are displayed, made me want to buy everything! The service was top notch! Fanny #2 from Sicily was truly amazing. All the people that work there are Italian and have their accents to prove it! Great place to get all your yummy cakes, cookies, pastries and focaccia. Love going to the bakery on the weekend to get what I need for the week. Weekend girls are great, friendly and polite. They always keep the place clean and organized and stocked. Fanni ,#1, is the best! Anytime I go in there by myself or with my family, she always has a smile on her face. My husband and I were out this way for an excursion to the Elmhurst Art Museum and wanted some baked goods to go with our dinner that night. The Italian Bakery had good reviews and we were very excited to find this place. That all changed very soon. When we walked in there were no customers in the store and we were not greeted. Once we made our decision the woman who "helped" us seemed very put out by our presence. We selected what looked like a delicious array of treats. That night we had a small selection of these treats. They were so bland. Guess that's what happens when you don't bake with love. read more

We LOVE this bakery!! It is iconic! I have my favorites but everything is delicious Lemon ricotta cookies! Spice balls! Mini pastries! Fig cookies! Their hours of operation are a bit limited so I recommend checking they are open before driving over. We tried their Cannoli & Nutella Dossant. Both had soft "donut" outsides and creamy filling. I loved the flavor and taste of both and they weren't overly sweet in my opinion. The donut to filling ratio was also perfect. I would definitely come back to try other items and indulge when they have their daily specials discounts.

Here's an update, as the years have gone by the quality has gone down, and the bakery is selling…read morestale cakes and pastries. I ordered a cake and was given a cake that was a few days old. Today I went in and all the pastries I bought were stale, at $4 to $6 a pop that's high robbery. I used to love coming to this bakery, not anymore. The customer service was awful, and the ladies behind the counter are rude beyond measure.
